OLD PAGE. GO TO THE CURRENT APP PAGE HERE

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on Sundays.

To join the game, the only big thing is you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. Just be sure to list their name and have the person confirm that they did invite you either by contacting the mods directly or commenting to your app. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two Sundays of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. The only times I'll ask for revisions is if there needs to be a fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player cap?
There is a player cap! Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

PLAYER SLOTS: 46/75 filled.

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is a player cap of 25 OU players.

OU PLAYER SLOTS: 24/35 filled.

At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open whether it be through drops, or adding extra slots. But to keep from one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is a OU cast cap of 6 characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

Casts near Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 6/6, OUS CAPPED

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a new character).

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
You have three options for characters!
  • Normal Modern AU: These characters have lived normal lives in a modern Earth setting, completely oblivious to anything strange up until their entry into the game. Anything in their backstory should be events that could reasonably happen in the real world. Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick one free regain (canon regain or an elemental power) worth up to 3 points that will come into effect after they join the game.

  • Paranormal Modern AU: These are characters who have grown up in a modern Earth setting, but throughout their lives have experienced supernatural occurrences. These characters will get 3 extra points when they app to use for powers that the acquired at some point in their lives (if they so choose). Characters are also allowed to be apped as possessed status. Please refer to the FAQ for more information on that!

  • Original Universe Characters: Characters who hail from their original world and find themselves waking up in this world. These characters will not lose any memories, and are allowed to have any items that would reasonably be on their person when they arrive. They are allowed to retain one ability that's been weakened to beginner levels, otherwise they've been completely depowered.

Character Name: Dirk Strider
Canon: Homestuck
Canon History: Here!

Canon Personality:
Dirk Strider is, more than anything else, self-obsessed. Not necessarily in a bad way, just...not necessarily in a good way either. He's self-assured at the same time as full of self-loathing. He can be self-centered, whether that means failing to consider others or blaming himself for things that really have nothing to do with him. He's self-aware, all too conscious of both his own impressive skills and worst faults.

Just a whole lot of "self", really. It's kind of a theme here.

Dirk has the title of "Prince of Heart", wherein the Heart aspect is representative of souls and identity. Dirk very strongly tied to his aspect on a conceptual level. Alternate selves – whether it's dreamselves or alternate timeline selves or whatever – are pretty common in Homestuck to begin with, but Dirk is particularly tied to his. More than that, he feels haunted by them – he sees himself from every angle, which gives him painfully clear perspective. He sees everything he hates about himself from the viewpoint of anyone who has to deal with him. He feels his faults are only amplified by his "splinters", every version of him making the same mistakes in fun new ways. More than once he likens his own self to an ocean that he's struggling not to drown in. He can't escape from himself – not even cosmic superdrugs can manage to change or influence him. For better or worse, he's always himself.

It's not all bad, but even some of his best traits are just a matter of perspective. He's good at taking charge and getting shit done, but that also makes him frequently pushy and controlling. He's smart – too smart for his own good, really. He always thinks he knows best in the moment. It doesn't help that he's extremely hyper-competent in a comic known for fuckups and comedies of errors – he often is right, at least in an objective sense, and between that and his domineering manner, he can often steamroll others during decision-making. It's great when shit needs to get done, but his failure to handle others' feelings properly often leads to interpersonal messiness. It's only in hindsight that he ever seems to recognize that he doesn't actually know best, and that belated recognition of how he hurts people is just another thing to hate about himself. He always manages to keep a cool head, to the point of seeming distant and aloof – "taciturn to the max about everything", as one of his friends put it – but in truth his aloofness is just a struggle to express himself borne of lifelong isolation. And despite all that, he does care for the people he's close to, deeply and fiercely. But he can come across as needy or desperate – to himself, at least. Other people are more likely to interpret it as overbearing or just being crazy intense, but as always, he recognizes and understands his own behavior all too well, and he's more critical of it than anyone else.

He really is crazy intense, though. Dirk takes everything to an extreme; he can't just like something, he has to be an expert in it, to the extent of writing academic papers that he has peer-reviewed by the AI version of himself that he created. He can't start any project without getting wildly carried away with it. And he's prone to weird power plays in his attempts to control everything. Even in his relationship with his love interest, Jake, he goes about everything in what Jake describes as "a really long term and esoteric courtship process that is bizarre but somehow makes perfect sense in his mind" and leaves Jake feeling like them getting together is sort of inevitable due to how Dirk is "just so relentless and aggressive about everything".

The saga of Brobot is a painfully clear example of all that Dirk is. A robot (styled after Dirk himself) built as a simple wrestling partner for Jake instead became a constantly-lurking assailant frequently beating the shit out of Jake in the name of toughening him up and keeping him on his toes. And while there was a "novice" setting, it's implied that the wrestling in that mode became more like cuddling, which was likely an indirect romantic overture from Dirk while also being a passive-aggressive jab at the idea of needing a novice setting at all – layered, as all things Dirk tend to be. Dirk brushed off Jake's complaints about the robot, and even Jake had to admit the sense in it. But that's just typical of conflicts with Dirk – his pragmatism overrides everyone else's feelings, no matter how valid those feelings are, and he's convinced he's right up until everything blows up in his face because people don't live in a world of pure logic. And eventually, when Jake needed some uranium to power a machine, the robot-Dirk ripped its own uranium heart out and smashed it to pieces for Jake's use.

Yeah. Objectively helpful, but a maybe tad dramatic. Par for the course with all versions of Dirk.

AU History:
Dirk has never had stable family or home life. From as early as he can remember, he was bouncing from foster home to group home to foster home. Placements were difficult and often short-lived for him as an aloof, too-smart-for-his-own-good kid with trust issues and difficulty emoting, so he struggled to make or maintain many interpersonal connections growing up.

Being able to see spirits didn't help matters. He learned quickly not to talk about that part for fear of seeming insane on top of scarily intense and stoic.

Most of Dirk's formal education came from online schooling since he moved around so much, and he dove even harder into his own informal studies, obsessively soaking up knowledge and teaching himself programming and robotics. It was a good distraction from everything else difficult in his life – social struggles, seeing things other people couldn't – and the hard sciences felt real and tangible in comparison to the supernatural bullshit. He proved to be extremely gifted academically and was able to skip a few grades' worth of material, and started applying to colleges early in anticipation of aging out of the system anyway. Better a dorm than another awkward home situation for his last year or two as a minor, and he'd be better set up to support himself anyway. He grew up primarily in Texas, but aimed to relocate in college to be closer to some online friends – the most consistent relationships he'd ever had.

Having nailed a full-ride scholarship to major in robotics and engineering, Dirk's moved himself out to Kaisou, where – for better or worse – he can't just ignore the spirit world shit.

AU Personality Differences:
  • Still stoic and intense and hard to read, but it stems more from a lack of stability and early social development instead of total isolation.
  • He remains determinedly self-sufficient, but there's less focus on literal fighting skills without having had to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth or prepare for SBURB. Instead, he's just scrappy as hell and thinks ninja swords are cool.
  • Without the idolization of his Bro, he doesn't wear the weird anime shades all the time. He's only sometimes that big a weeb. He wears regular shades a lot of the time, but it's not a 24/7 thing.

Element: Water
Purchased Powers:
  • Can hold breath underwater for up to 30 minutes (2 points)
  • Sense presence of others within 30 feet (1 point)

Character Name: Althea Brooks
Canon: OC, Marvel/X-Men based
History: Google Doc with all her info here, or here in another app on her journal if google docs aren't great.

Personality: The history link has most of this as well, but to summarize:

She's helpful, hopeful, and terrified, all to a fault. She'll believe the best in others and the worst in herself, though she's begun learning that she probably shouldn't go through life like that. She both relies heavily on and heavily ignores and burries her abilities, be they intellectual, mutant, whatever, and that dichotomy is a large part of what she struggles with overall. Were she given proper mental health help and counseling, she'd almost certainly be diagnosed with ptsd from her home life as well as anxiety and adhd, but she ignores most of those warning signs because 'if she's not perfect, she won't be wanted'.

That mantra rules her life to a ridiculous degree.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately?
Items: A necklace with a golden pendant on it that has a figure on each side, a puzzlebox with a gem that reacts to electricity as the prize (pretty and possibly a good practice method only), an mp3 player and headphones, a glove modified with metal fillaments meant to channel her electricity more delicately/consistently
Retained Ability: I imagine extremely basic electrokinesis would be limited to knowing generally where electricity/something powered is when it's nearby, and at most 'offensive', a taser effect while she's physically touching someone/thing, maybe some parlor tricks of lighting up a lightbulb while hoding it, or making speakers crackle while holding the powerline.

(Absolutely willing to fiddle with powers/abilities if needed! I don't really have a baseline of what 'levels' of electrokinesis would entail, I just imagine she wouldn't be able to throw lightning or sense people around her via bioelectricity or anything fancy like that. :P )

Character Name: Asriel Dreemurr
Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: At the end of the Pacifist Route, before changing back into Flowey.
History: https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Asriel_Dreemurr
https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Flowey

Personality:  ❀ CARING:  Asriel was not only raised by two extremely loving parents, but seems to have the same empathetic and caring nature that Asgore and Toriel have. This shows especially when he comes to the first fallen human's rescue. Despite the fact that humans had once sealed monsters underground, Asriel doesn't seem to hesitate to help the child when they fall into the ruins. Monsters in Undertale are also quite literally made of empathy and love. It resonates through their SOUL. This caring nature also leads to him being rather sensitive. He's called a crybaby in a few points during Undertale's canon.

❀ IMPRESSIONABLE:  Asriel seems deeply influenced by those around him – perhaps even moreso than other children are. He takes after Asgore via his way of speaking with a Southern dialect. This also shows especially after death when he seems to copy some of his best friend's mannerisms – whether it be through their “creepy smiles” or the mischief that the both of them seemed to get into together. The fact that they're easily influenced by others is also what leads them to get caught up in things where they can be in over their head. This is seen mostly when it comes to the plan to free monsters in the underground, even if it meant that Chara would sacrifice themselves for it.

❀ LOVING:  This loving nature is both a positive and negative aspect of Asriel's character. It's his loving nature that can lead him to helping others – doing what he can to make others happy and in his words “give them a happy ending,” however – Asriel loves others to what may be an unhealthy degree. The desperation and need to see Chara again is what leads Asriel to want to force Frisk to kill others and ultimately change them into a person who would be more like their sibling It gets to the point where they use and perhaps even see Frisk as a replacement for Chara. When Asriel loves, he loves hard. He states how he loves and cares for Chara more than anyone else. When he changed into Flowey, he worked to give others a happy ending in what might be seen as a desperate attempt to feel the love that he lost.

❀ CYNICAL:  Despite having been saved by Frisk, Asriel still deeply carries a cynical view of the world. Despite no longer believing in the philosophy kill-or-be-killed, Asriel is well aware that there are many dangerous people in the world. He knows that his best friend's plan was not something he should have completely had faith in, and that they weren't the “best person.” Perhaps this is due to the fact that Asriel ended up influenced by Frisk, just as he had Chara. However, as Flowey – it seemed as though Asriel truly believed that things such as love and faith in others were worthless things. While Asriel has remembered what it is like to love and care for others, this doesn't change their previous way of believing.

❀ COWARDLY: Despite being willing to kill others time and time again, Asriel is also the kind of person to run away the moment that his own life is in danger. He seems to want to desperately cling to things that he's familiar with or what he wants to keep control of. The want and need to have “God-like” powers was more of a way for Flowey to remain in control of the power of DETERMINATION. In the no-mercy run, he also changes his mind and decides the path that Frisk takes is ultimately a bad idea only when his own life is in danger. He ultimately tries to save Asgore to prevent Frsik from attempting to kill him.

❀ RELATIONSHIPS: Asriel has several important relationships. The most important being Chara. Chara is a human who had fallen into the Underground that Asriel had found and helped. They quickly became best friends, and it is said by other characters that they were like siblings. He shares a friendly relationship with them and says in canon that he believes that he understands and cares from Chara more than anyone else. After Chara dies, much of Flowey's mannerisms may have come from them, but his kill-or-be-killed philosophy may have come from the trauma he faced after being attacked and killed by humans. As for Toriel and Asgore – his parents – he may have been close to them at one point, and while he still cares for them, Asriel knows that it's incredibly unlikely that he'll never see them again after the barrier is shattered. It's clear that Asriel was deeply cared for and loved by them and that the feeling was very much mutual. As said before, he was influenced by his family to the point where he would mimic certain quirks.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: I'm reapping him from when he was here last month!
Items: The only thing he really will bring is the clothes on his back, and a heart-shaped locket with the words “best friends forever” inscribed inside of it.

I'M SO SORRY. Life was honestly absolutely crazy last month and a lot happened... ;;

Character Name: Denki Kaminari
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon History: Here

Canon Personality:

Intense Extrovert
Denki is a laid-back and easy-going guy that gets along with almost everyone. He's expressive and energetic with a tendency to be over-familiar with people, being very casual in his demeanor. Sometimes he can come off as blunt, but it's generally always well-meaning. Denki's very good at making people feel included and acts as a glue to hold his friends together and lighten their mood. He's very socially intelligent and empathic, excellent at breaking uncomfortable tension with dumb jokes or stupid comments, and always enjoys hanging out.

Comic Relief
Always the class clown, Denki enjoys making other people laugh (even at his own expense sometimes). He jokes around a lot, but he also makes mistakes and messes up in a way that's comedic and makes tense moments disappear. He'll make playful comments in every situation and even teases the more volatile of his friends just to make others laugh... even if it might mean he gets in trouble for it. Making a fool of himself is always worth it when it makes his friends smile.

The Dumb One (But Not Really)
Denki often comes off as a dim-witted idiot, failing his classes and making mistakes. He's known as the stupid one, but there's layers to everything. He's not academically smart, requiring massive help at studying due to his general attention issues and suffers from Test Anxiety. Underneath that, however, he has a surprising amount of literature knowledge, a vast vocabulary (which he hides) and knowledge of art and music. He's good at English and knows weird amounts of trivia, as well as the ins and outs of electricity. While he will never be a top student, his social genius is nothing to scoff at.

Loyal Friend
Denki would die for his friends. Full stop. Even when frightened in battle, all he has to do is think of them and he gets the courage to fight even a whole army of villains. He'll throw himself into a pack of weird robots to help his friends move forward, even if it will incapacitate him, and he'll protect and defend the people he cares for viciously. Even talking bad about them makes his own fear wane and the analytic hero appears to clap back. He'll happily follow after two of the more destructive friends without thinking, because he's too loyal to hesitate when it's time for new explosive shenanigans.

Ladies Man
In the beginning Denki was a skirt-chaser and a bit of a pervert, even if his fantasies stopped at maid cafes and looking at girls in bikinis. He often tried to flirt with girls or ask them out, only to be shot down. Once he got another friend group, however, this seems to have calmed down to more tolerable, typical teen boy levels. He'll flirt and be funny about it, rather than desperate. He also appears to have recently found an interest in men as well, calling a new future classmate attractive and cool.

AU History: Denki grew up in Japan, his mother an electrical engineer and his father a power plant manager. He had a pretty decent early childhood, even if he had some learning disabilities and tended to have a hard time in school.

At 10, he was hit by lightning while playing on a field during a thunderstorm and should have died from the massive current. However, the lightning bolt that hit him was actually a Raiju pup playing in the storm, and it had shot straight into his navel to make a home there. Instead of dying, Denki instead became possessed by the Thunder Beast.

A lot of trouble followed this possession, with his body not quite managing to share space with the spirit. His school work suffered more as an energetic puppy in his veins was a bad mix with his ADHD, and at 11 he had his first discharge in his room, popping every lightbulb and fuse in the house. He had a seizure right afterwards, his brain taken offline as he made a stupid face and pulled his thumbs up subconsciously to try to tell his parents he was okay. It took him over an hour to come back to full consciousness and he spent a lot of time in a hospital afterwards.

More seizures followed when he started to overload, from the strange absence ones where he made the silly face and thumbs-up, to more serious tonic-clonic ones. It always seemed to follow some kind of electrical surge, which neither his parents or doctors quite understood. The more he grew the less often he had the seizures, as he became more used to the raiju's energy - but the pup also grew, and it tended to be a fine line to balance.

At 15 his parents got a promotion to work overseas, so Denki moved to the US and started school there. While he was still struggling with school, he found himself making friends more easily thanks to his upbeat personality, and enjoyed being the class clown, the party boy and a hopeless flirt. It was thanks to these friends he actually managed to graduate high school - even if just by a hair.

At 21 with no clear path in life, he decided to not even try college (much to the chagrin of his parents) but instead now works in an electronic repair shop a block way from one. (Close enough to still go to frat parties and hang out with a group of friends from the school).

AU Personality Differences: With no dream to become a hero, Denki didn't feel the need to put himself through higher learning when he already suffered through high school with his 'stupidity', as he sees it. This means that he's much less driven than in his canon.

Otherwise he's very much still a ray of energetic sunshine. Older but not wiser.

Purchased Powers: General - 2 Points: Medium Level Regeneration (Helps him to not die from overloading by regenerating burnt neurons.)
General - 1 Point: Single Non-Human Feature (Faint tiger stripe pattern around his stomach and back, can be 'explained' as hyper-pigmented blaschko's lines)
Possession: Denki is possessed by a raiju and his main contract price is being the raiju's energy storage. This takes a heavy toll on his body and when he has too much stored it can escape in a discharge of electricity - and often causes seizures afterwards thanks to his brain overloading. Interesting quirks also include an inability to sleep on his stomach and being extra energetic and charged up during thunderstorms - which unfortunately also tends to set his discharges off.

Character Name: Toshinori Yagi
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon History: Toshinori Yagi in history

Canon Personality: Yagi Toshinori is better known as All Might in his own universe. My Hero Academia is a story about superheroes and supervillains and of the former group All Might is by far the most famous and beloved. He inherited his Quirk (what they call superpowers there) from a woman known as Nana and went on to become the "Symbol of Peace". He was so famous and so competent at his job that just by existing he deterred many people from villainy. That was his goal from the start and he accomplished it by throwing himself so completely into his job that he rarely had the time for anything else. All Might was one of those heroes who stood alone more than he didn't. No one else was ever really on his level and he kept many secrets that made it hard for him to truly get close to many people until he was brought down to normal after a decisive battle with his ultimate nemesis, All For One.

Due to his role of Symbol of the Peace Yagi puts on a persona that is boisterous, cheerful, and loud whenever he is in "muscle!Might" form. He's always smiling and tries to seem like an unshakeable pillar of the world. Even many villains would come to see All Might as a shining example of a hero in his time as the number one hero. The other side of that is that he kept to himself many of his struggles and uncertainties. Very few people knew how he got his powers and he kept his search for a successor very under wraps and did not find one until well after his initial injury. All Might has kept secrets even from that successor, Izuku Midoriya, because he felt it was necessary.

Outside of his persona as a hero Yagi is much more down to earth. He's noted to be intelligent and to downplay that intelligence with other people. Sometimes just through being a bit silly and sometimes deliberately as a tactic. Yagi is very aware of what the world stood to lose without him being there to hold things back and he bet everything on the future when he began to lose his ability to maintain his strength. It was only in his twilight years as a hero that Yagi began to understand that the future would require more than just one Symbol of Peace. It would need an entire generation of them. He's been growing and changing even in his late 40s as he acknowledges his own shortcomings as a mentor and a hero and as he tries to support the future generation in their struggles to shore up the legacy he left behind and create something even stronger.

AU History: Yagi Toshinori was born in Japan where he stayed until the age of 16. At that time he entered an exchange student program and spent the rest of his high school years in America. He returned back to Japan after it was over to attend university in his homeland. From there he worked as a fireman and later a paramedic. He was injured heavily when he was in his late 30s and decided to retire and travel. After a year of that he admitted he was bored just being retired and decided to go to school in order to secure a teaching degree. He chose to return to America for this for a change of pace and after the appropriate amount of time to get a degree he managed to secure a position teaching paramedic-related courses. Since he's now 49, that was several years ago and he has reached a comfortable position with that.

His paranormal AU background is a bit unique in that he spent most of his life unaware of the supernatural. It's only when he began dating a woman five years ago who had a background with it and who was able to see and interact with that side of things that Yagi began to learn about the entire situation. He married that woman and acquired step-children alongside his supernatural crash-course. Since he's only been aware of things for a little over four years, he's still often surprised by new information but does his best to keep tabs on it. He's managed to acquire some very minor abilities that took him the better part of those four years to get. In keeping with that his chosen purchased powers from the start will all be 1-point level. He's pretty useless in a head to head fight since his career-ending injuries keep him in a perpetual state of poor health but he's very good at emergency medicine and disaster knowledge.

AU Personality Differences: Since he isn't the one and only symbol of Peace in Kaisou Yagi will have a lot less pressure for himself about appearing infallible and strong. He's not the only guy who has ever done his job and he isn't waiting around for someone to take his place currently. He's teaching the next generation because he enjoys it rather than feeling he absolutely has to pass on his power. He's more willing to ask for help or show that he isn't a pillar of strength in this world than the other one. He didn't ever perfect his "hero" persona that was so much louder than his usual one so instead Yagi is comfortably a lot calmer and more in lines with his "sick!Might" persona. He's optimistic and can be dramatic but he has never been famous or in the line of sight of the entire world which means he's a lot more relaxed overall. He is still dedicated to his work but he also has a family and people he cares about and hasn't had to give his life from the age of sixteen on to a cause to defeat villainy so he's carrying a lot less weight emotionally than he would otherwise have.

Element: Light
Purchased Powers: Conjure a ping-pong size ball of light + Turn a glass worth of water into holy water + Can pull pen or smaller objects towards you (less telekinesis and more gravitational pull) for his three minor abilities.

Character Name: Shouto Todoroki YES I KNOW this is a kaminari journal but i took a month to pick who i wanted to apply for here and then i haven't chosen a good shouto name yet im sorry lol. i promise 2 come up with one b4 sunday
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon History: I want it, too. I'll be a hero!

Canon Personality: Shouto's personality is one that changes throughout the series. At the very start he's a very cold & aloof character. He is entirely focused on his goal to become a hero without using anything his father has given him. At the start he holds himself apart from his classmates and doesn't connect with them like he does in later chapters/episodes...like a sad little man he really do be anime Zuko. After an interaction with his series protagonist he comes to move away from that. Early in one of the first arcs Shouto discusses his past with Izuku Midoriya. When he explains how he won't use his father's power no matter what the other hero in training tells him that it is his power. No one else had ever called it that before. His flames were always his father and his ice was always his mother. For the first time someone saw Shouto as something more than the puzzle pieces of his parents and it changed him at his core.

After that moment Shouto begins to connect to his classmates on a deeper level. He's still more reserved than many of the members of his class but instead of staying off on his own Shouto begins to truly interact with the other students. He participates in class discussions and banter sessions and actively tries to spend time with the others. Whenever they call him he's there in a heartbeat. Shouto is warm with people that he comes to view as important to him. He even opens up about his past willingly with the others on occasion.

As might be obvious from the scars on his face Shouto's past was a turbulent one. He experienced abuse at the hands of his parents and held a grudge against his father for it for a very long time. He still hasn't said he forgives his father in current canon although he is now willing to learn from the man instead of handicapping his own educational efforts. Shouto is a person who wants to move beyond his past and face his future. That past still chains him down in some ways, sure, but he is actively working to move beyond it.

Shouto has come a long way from the loner he once was at the very start of the series. He has friends now and he fights for those friends. His family relationships are being worked on and healed in some cases. He is working to be his own kind of hero using both his fire and ice powers. And most importantly of all he is refusing to let his father control his path and claiming his future for his own.

AU History: OK SO HERE WE GO I think the most interesting kind of alternate life to give Shouto would be one where he had a happy family! His parents in this life did not harm him at all and were chill as heck. They were busy sometimes sure and have been active in the paranormal world since he was a kid hunting down evil spirits and monsters but they have always cared for him and encouraged him to follow his own path!!! They have never tried to make him live his life for them and have instead tried to get him to live his life for him! I think this simple change will make it all the more interesting when he begins to realize he didn't have that in the memories he gets!

His parents moved them around often and only settled in Kaisou when he was a teenager. I do want his life to have a hint of tragedy for realism though so I will say that his father passed away only a year or two back since Disney mom deaths are out and Disney dad deaths are in again? He was much loved and Shouto actively misses the cool dude. He's very close with his mother as a result! A momma's boy.

While he has an interest in following his parents' footsteps to travel around solving spirit problems he's currently attending college for a degree so he can give himself the option of falling back on a "normal" career if he chooses. He's in gen ed because he hasn't decided what he wants to do yet though...maybe something like photography or something artsy? He lives with his mother and works part-time at a bar since becoming legal to do so!

AU Personality Differences: Shouto is much less angry! His parents raised him with love and affection even when they were busy and they had no expectations of him other than that he be happy. He is much more settled in himself and his life and feels like it is okay if he doesn't always have it figured out and if his goals are sometimes less than the top. He carries much less sadness and trauma on his shoulders! Good for him now he has to remember all the sucky stuff whoops :)

Element: Wind
Purchased Powers: Don't need hairspray to make hairstyle wind resistant for 1 point and Can withstand falls from 10 feet (3 meters) for 2 points!!!

Cale Henituse | Trash of the Count's Family | Paranormal Modern AU

[personal profile] alwaysbeentrash 2022-09-17 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: medchan
Contact: this account or here
Invited by: myself
Other Characters: Monkey D. Luffy

Character Name: Cale Henituse
Canon: Trash of the Count's Family
Canon History: found here

A brief overview: Cale is the second life of a man originally called Kim Rok Suu. Kim Rok Suu, now living as Cale Henituse, quickly falls into his new role in life. He'd been apathetic in his previous life and decides that this time around, he's going to enjoy his wealthy new life and be lazy. To that end, he does his best to help the hero on his path, all while trying to avoid getting hurt. However, everything he does ends up with him more and more entangled with the powerful and influential people of this new world. He's kind to some orphan kids, reminded of his previous life as an orphan, and ends up becoming their benefactor. The problem? They're beast men children, who when they grow up, will likely become even powerful.

This process repeats again and again. He ends up accidentally befriending the main hero of the story, a strong sorceress, two assassins, a baby dragon, wolf beast children, and even a powerful whale tribe. The more he does, the more embroiled he gets with everything, even influencing the outcome of a war and befriending several country leaders. All this to say, try as he might, his peaceful and lazy life is only getting further and further away from his grasp.

Canon Personality: Lazy af. He's very similar to the bad boy with the heart of gold troupe. He claims he just wants to live a lazy, rich life doing nothing. However, he hates violence and often goes out of his way, in one way or another, to help others. While this is mostly to his benefit, he also has done quite a lot of good, despite his selfishness. He finds pain annoying rather than scary and would rather let others do the fighting for him. He's a good leader and is able to direct others, give advice and comfort them in such a way, that he's inadvertently created a rather loyal group around himself that keeps growing.

He isn't exactly good with kids, feeling awkward around them, but has a need to look out for them. Despite this, he does have many paternal traits. He has a tendency to want to care for and nurture young kids, helping them reach their potential. Again, he usually claims this is for his own benefit. This is largely due to his memories of being an orphan in a past life.

AU History: Cale grew up in a rather wealthy family and has had most things handed to him his whole life. Occasionally, there were some rough times in the beginning, when his mother took him and left his father. They struggled to make ends meet for a few years, until he was ten and she died. The entire time, she had hidden from his father and refused any handouts due to her insanely high pride. Shortly afterwards, he was bounced around various foster homes for a few months, until his father finally got word of him.

He was brought home, where his life did a complete 180. He had servants who would wait on him hand and foot, which resulted in him becoming quite spoiled. He also suddenly acquired a step mother, whom his father had married two years prior, and two step siblings from her previous marriage. He's ambivalent to his new family. On the surface, he appears apathetic to them, and certainly, he doesn't go out of his way to get closer to them. However, he doesn't avoid them, doesn't hate them, and isn't above comforting his new step siblings, both a younger brother and a younger sister. He listens fairly well to his step mother and even vaguely respects her, appreciating that she didn't try to take his mother's place and gives him plenty of space to grow.

When he was young and living with his mom, during those difficult times, he would often befriend strange creatures on the streets and in the shadows. It took him some time to realize not everyone could see or interact with what he could, at which point, he began to hide this ability. None of his family knows of this ability, currently. It was during this time that he ran into a witch. When he was bored and restless at night, he would often sneak out to find her, wanting to hear stories of witchcraft and magic. He mostly thought it was nonsense but the longer he was around her, the more he ended up seeing things he really shouldn't. And, shortly before his mother passed, while sneaking out to see the witch, he ended up possessed. He hid this possession, not really understanding what happened and thinking first his mother would think that he was a freak. He kept hiding it later, even after he had a slightly better understanding of what happened, still under the belief that those around him would reject him. He told on person while he was briefly in foster care and that didn't end well, so he doesn't really ever speak of his possession, even to those who might understand.

AU Personality Differences: Like his canon counterpart, he places a great value towards money. However, he's not quite so obsessive about it. He has more anxiety than his canon counterpart, especially when it comes to money, or rather, he has a fear of a lack of it. He doesn't verbalize this fear but will find little ways to horde money, often collecting it in various forms.

He feels more comfortable in darkness and at night, rather than in daylight. He tends to be rather nocturnal, both as a result of his abilities and because that was the time he felt safest.

He developed an odd habit while living with his mom of occasionally watching over people while they sleep, as if to protect and look out for them. He can't do anything for them but it's soothing for him, watching over them.

Because he lived such a different life after returning to his dad, it took him longer to get in touch with his abilities. This is a direct result of him leaning into being spoiled and focusing on that, rather than anything else.

Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: 1 point to shadow ability
2 points to medium senses
Possession: He's possessed by a polecat favored by a goddess. He has no idea that it's favored, much less what goddess would favor it.

As it's favored, it grants him a boosted immunity to poisons and boosted knowledge when it comes to herbs/remedies/poisons. His boosted knowledge is more instincts of what is helpful and harmful in situations, rather than possessing any direct knowledge.

Unfortunately, as it's their main dietary need, he will be forced to chase every squirrel he sees for at least ten minutes, before snapping back to himself. every. single. squirrel. Obviously, he finds this very annoying and tries to avoid being around too many trees, to limit his interactions with squirrels. He gives zero explanation for why he chases squirrels to anyone unfortunate enough to have their conversation interrupted. He'll just mutter an absent "excuse me" before slowly trying to stalk a squirrel in the distance and then suddenly taking off after it in a run. He is surprisingly adept at climbing trees while he's zoned out but sometimes ends up stuck up one after he snaps back. Sometimes, he's successful in catching the squirrels, at which point, he'll snapping back to himself early and carefully let it go. As a result of all of this, some squirrels love him, viewing this as play and him as a friend, while others loath him and will bite and scratch and throw nuts at not only him but anyone unlucky enough to have interacted with him after a recent incident.

Anything else?: It's just a regular polecat. It can't really "speak" to him and their interactions are basically him just occasionally seeing an animal out of the corner of his eye, trying to get him to pay attention to either something dangerous (poisonous) to him or to look at some plant or other. He can speak to it but it doesn't really respond to his directions, which he finds incredibly frustrating. In a way, he both loves and hates it. It's been a constant companion to him for almost eight years now, so it's comforting in that regard. And yet, to his way of thinking, it brings more downsides than benefits. If told he could get rid of it by killing it, he would be conflicted, unsure of what to do. While he often times finds it annoying, he doesn't hate it.

LMK if I need to change anything!

Character Name: Will Solace
Canon: Percy Jackson & the Olympians
Canon Point: Post-The Tower of Nero
History: The Last Olympian, The Lost Hero, The Blood of Olympus, The Hidden Oracle, The Tower of Nero, Will Solace

Personality: ☀️ Will is very kind-hearted. He's the kind of person who'll run over to help if someone's in trouble. Two examples being that he didn't hesitate to help an injured Apollo, who was turned into a mortal, and he immediately went off to heal a critically injured woman after infiltrating Nero's Tower.

☀️ Being the head medic at Camp Half-Blood means that he doesn't let people intimidate him out of doing his job. The downside is that he's also not easily intimidated at all. When you get threatened by Ares' children every time you patch them up, the threats just start to lose their edge.

☀️ He cares a lot about a person's health and general wellness.

🌦️ By that same token, he's also not afraid to "write a doctor's note" for his boyfriend to sit at the same table as him and his siblings instead of being alone at the Hades table.

🌦️ Also, he's very stubborn if someone is trying to overtax themselves. The more self-destructive someone is being, the more stubborn he gets in trying to help them not seriously injure themself (or worse, like death).

☀️ He's generally a calm person and has a calming presence. Will's their best combat medic for a reason, and he's excellent to have when in a high pressure situation.

⛅ Will's also very hard to anger. He's gotten angry twice in the entire time he's been in the series. Once was in The Blood of Olympus when Nico said he'd leave and never be seen again, quickly followed by Octavian saying the war was what Apollo wanted. The second was in The Tower of Nero, when Nico got smacked across the room and Nero threatened to kill Apollo. In this second instance, he was literally glowing with his rage and intimidated GROWN, ADULT MEN into backing the heck off of his unconscious boyfriend so that he could bring said boyfriend to safety and heal him.

☀️ He loves his family so much. Will has reference books on Apollo in their cabin so that his new siblings can read them at their leisure. When Apollo came back to camp in The Tower of Nero, Will didn't even hesitate to pull his Dad into a hug and then help him over to a chair.

⛅ Will also loves Nico to the point where he'll literally go to Tartarus, Greek hell, because he doesn't want his boyfriend to suffer through that torment alone again.

⛅ Sometimes, he wishes that he had more martial talent than he does. As it is, Will can maybe defend himself, but he's been shown to not use any weapons, even when armed with a knife, and instead does what he can as a healer.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: This month! Just to make it easier on my brain
Items: First aid kit
Retained Ability: Diagnosis (Vitakinesis) - He can tell with a touch what's wrong with a person.

Other Characters: N/A

Character Name: Isabela Madrigal
Canon: Encanto
Canon Point: Post Film
History: Disney Wiki, Wikipedia

Personality: The one way to describe Isabela’s predicament is that she is shaped by having to deal and live with the pressures and expectations put before her as the golden child among her family or Señorita Perfecta as Mirabel once called her. It is not easy being the eldest grandchild of the family who has high standards to live by, caused by the trauma her Abuela Alma went through from losing her husband (and Isabela’s grandfather) Pedro 50 years before the story starts. The pressure she places onto her children and grandchildren to make use of their gifts has caused the family to suffer internally in their own way and, in Isabela’s case, she has to deal with to be the golden standard while consciously needing to ignore her own desires for the family, the encanto/enchantment, and the town they live in.

Outwardly, she comes off as a graceful and elegant lady with a bit of haughty arrogance who grows beautiful flowers and doesn’t seem to do no wrong, except that it is a facade for a woman who has to repress her true self in order to live up to the image of the golden child. Deep down, she finds living by Alma’s expectations too much for her and she really wants to live her life as she intends it to be and explore and experiment with the other options she could do with her gift; it is implied from her character song that she truly has a deep interest in botany and horticulture in general. She has become rather jaded by how people expect her to be as pretty as her flowers and she has grown to hate her situation of needing to live up to the expectations of others, yearning to be more independent and be in control of her life. But because of the pressures surrounding her, she had to hide her true feelings, desires, and dreams in order to make her family and especially Alma proud, even if it means having to marry the man her cousin Dolores has feelings for, Mariano. It is even revealed that she had only agreed to marry him as an obligation to her family during the fight with Mirabel in her room, stating that she didn’t want to get into a marriage with him by her own will. She is even seen visibly upset about having to accept the marriage proposal while singing the last parts of We Don’t Talk About Bruno and also shows shock when Dolores reveals that Mariano wants to have 5 kids with her (Isabela) that she involuntarily grows flowers on her hair as a response. She can get very annoyed by Camilo’s antics when he takes on Mariano’s form that she has to put up flower petals to shut his mouth while (secretly) expressing her displeasure of having to say ‘yes’ to a man she doesn’t have any genuine feelings for. Not to mention that she can come off as rude at times and is able to show anger when pushed to her limits, which is how Mirabel caused her to have an epiphany about being able to do more than just growing pretty flowers.

While it is not shown much in canon, she deeply cares for her family and does a lot to make them them proud, showing off a selfless and loyal side to her like when she tries to help in saving the miracle candle during the Casita’s destruction. While her relationship with Mirabel is strained and distant for most of the film and she had a slightly negative view on her uncle Bruno for his vision of her future initially, she is shown to be close to Luisa, her aunt Pepa, and Dolores as shown when she begins to worry for Luisa when her strength was slowly fading away moments leading to the dinner proposal, when she tries to calm Pepa down with a bouquet of roses, and when she and Dolores hold hands and they hug each other while witnessing Antonio’s gift ceremony respectively. Upon letting go of her golden child image, she becomes less restrained and begins to lighten up, no longer feeling burdened by the weigh of people’s expectations and the pressure of being perfect.

Her relationship with Mirabel is one filled with strain and hostility as she once told her to not get in the way, and, when Mariano and his mom come over for the dinner proposal, that she ‘doesn’t want a word out of her’ during the dinner. She can be hard on her and does seem to be aloof towards her youngest sister and she in return finds her annoying to the point of seeing her as a spoiled and selfish person, both of them unaware how much the other is suffering from dealing with familial pressures. It is also hinted and implied that she may be jealous of Mirabel for not having to deal with the same pressures she has to deal with on a daily basis. It is only when Mirabel learns to see that there is more to Isa than her seemingly perfect façade that the two of them can build a better relationship together.

Through having an honest conversation and reconciling with Mirabel and with the support of the rest of the Madrigals, Isabela learns that she can be more than just her gift and she doesn’t need to be the perfect golden child to be her own person, with her hair and dress eventually getting dyed by different colored pollen and letting her gift to grow other plant life like sundews and cacti, gleefully letting out a rebellious side of her that she had been hiding for so long. She has also learned to express her creativity and interest in plants much more freely than she has done before. She is still a young lady with a lot of things to learn and do who still deeply cares for and loves her family and the community. But she is now learning not to be restrained by other people’s expectations and that it’s okay to be yourself and explore your interests within your own terms.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately
Items: Just the clothes she is wearing
Retained Ability: She will definitely be retaining her gift to grow plants. Originally back at home, she can only grow vines and beautiful flowers, but following after a heartwarming reconciliation with Mirabel, she has since expanded into growing a variety of plant life including cacti, sundews, and trees. But once she arrives at Kaisou, she is going to be stuck with just growing flowers and vines in small quantities.

Character Name: Mafuyu Asahina
Canon: Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage
Canon Point: post Carnation Recollection
History: The Jackpot Sad Girl

What the wiki doesn't cover can be summarized easily, however.

Imprisoned Marionette: While seeking inspiration for music, specifically something that might spark something in Mafuyu, the group goes to a doll exhibit at the museum as one of it's first in-person meetings as a music group and as friends. Though the dolls are interesting, they don't seem to ignite any especially strong reaction... up until Mafuyu finds a marionette strung up on display, triggering disgust , agony and fear that she can't explain. Encouraged to try and elaborate on this through music, Mafuyu takes the lead of 25 ji Nightcord de. for a time to write Marionette. Within the SEKAI, however, Miku reveals a marionette has always been part of it- it's just now visible to the others. Notably, however, Miku has cut the strings from the marionette to play Cat's Cradle. While thinking about the exhibit however, Mafuyu briefly considers giving up on feeling emotions as all she had felt recently had been sickening or painful, before she remembers the concern and care Kanade showed her when she got sick at the exhibit. She decides to keep that aspect within her heart, alongside the song that drew her to Kanade to begin with, and begins to ask others what the point of emotions are- specifically, she asks Ena why she believes frustration to be necessary when it's unpleasant. When Ena declares she wouldn't be herself without frustration, something resonates within Mafuyu, but it's unclear what, exactly.

Insatiable Pale Color: Ena enters an art contest, seeking validation for her path of choice. Out of pride she's refused to state that she's the artist for 25 ji Nightcord de., wanting recognition for her own merit and growth rather than their name or her father's. When her first entry is rejected, she lashes out at Mafuyu, who's able to create beautiful works- be it music or art- without thought or emotion while still getting praise and attention, compared to Ena's own efforts never being recognized. In Ena's despair, she retreats into Empty SEKAI in hopes of disappearing just as Mafuyu herself did at the start of the game. When Kanade's music reaches her again through Rin and Miku, she returns and apologizes for worrying the others, and scolds herself for having such a strong reaction to a lack of recognition. Mafuyu points out that there's nothing wrong with wanting recognition, shocking the others- but in the end, it's shown that she truly believes that desiring to be seen isn't a bad thing, and Ena's allowed to want that sort of attention. It's also shown that Mafuyu listens to Ena's scoldings with a sincere desire to learn from them, and is able to realize afterwards when she says something insensitively, and that despite her frustrations Ena does care for Mafuyu as well. Mafuyu also notably takes an interest in Ena's sense of pride, noting she has nothing to be passionate about and finds Ena's passion "interesting". In the days following, Ena also manages to figure out the source of Mafuyu's lack of taste: dysgeusia, which can be caused by zinc deficiency in an unbalanced diet or an overabundance of stress.

Secret Distance: With the doll exhibit having awoken some form of emotion within Mafuyu- however negative- Mizuki decides that another trip could potentially help Mafuyu as well as assist Kanade with her writer's block by exposing them both to new things. After a bit of research, she leads the group on a ghost story themed mystery tour. Though the girls all seem to not realize how much they value each other, even remarking that they had no one to be separated from when the tour leads them to a spot where a ghost is said to curse people into never seeing their most precious people ever again, but at the last spot they arrive at an abandoned school. Mafuyu wanders off by herself with no word to the others, prompting them to search for her. As it happens, Mafuyu had followed a ghost of a girl who was looking for a lost item- her shoe, tied up in the branches of a tree nearby. In return for her help, the ghost brought her to a sakura tree still standing within the school, which is where the others eventually find her. And though the sight of sakura never really resonated with them before, they find this time watching the tree together, just the four of them, it feels good- enough so that Mafuyu even smiled, much to the shock of the others. After the trip, Mafuyu reflects on everything, as well as her encounter with the ghost, and the difference between seeing the tree in a photograph and seeing everything they saw together, in person. The SEKAI also changes- Meiko joins as a resident, though she prefers to keep her distance and oversee their progress without growing attached... referencing Mizuki's own fears of attachment and showing more blatantly that the SEKAI is accepting the feelings of more than just Mafuyu.

Carnation Recollection: Kanade has been devoting herself to writing songs that could possibly reach Mafuyu's heart, with little to no success. Despite finding sparks of emotion from different trips or simply engaging with one another, she struggles to capture what had made Mafuyu feel anything, and as she's completely disconnected with her own heart Mafuyu can offer very little help or insight. While she can recognize the skill and effort behind each song, she struggles to find any feeling within it or herself. However, after Kanade rediscovers a garden of carnations she had visited with her parents as a child with the help of Mizuki, she writes a song channeling those memories with her family rather than her fear for Mafuyu... resulting in a warm, loving song that makes Mafuyu smile, saying that she liked it. The morning after, after once again being scolded by Ena for not considering Kanade's efforts and making more of an effort herself to reach out back, Mafuyu realizes that even unpleasant conversations with Ena are alright, but speaking with her family and classmates isn't.

Personality:

On the surface, Mafuyu is the perfect girl: she's kind, friendly and naturally helpful while also being reliable and maintaining an enviable work ethic that leads to her having near perfect grades across the board. Even her athletic skills are to be admired, be it archery or standard gym class. She's noted to be ambitious- already thinking about medical school in her second year of high school- and despite all the work she puts into her goals, she always has time to lend a hand or an ear. Not once does she complain, lash out or even frown. And why would she? She's perfect.

Quite literally all of this is to Mafuyu's detriment! But she's an incredible actress.

When you peel away the mask of the good girl she's expected to be, Mafuyu is deeply depressed. The pressures of her parents' expectations, her mother's emotional manipulations and abuse and the pressures of her peers and teachers combined have left her completely broken. She's completely unable to recognize her emotions and considers herself to be completely without emotions as a whole, and caving to the desires of others has left her without much of a will of her own. Given that her own parents could never be satisfied with Mafuyu as she was, it's no surprise things only got worse- even when she told them that she wanted to be a nurse, they immediately pressured her into becoming a doctor instead, and things have only gotten worse. It's only through Kanade, Ena and Mizuki's continued care and desire to save her that is keeping her alive currently and Mafuyu desires to rediscover herself- one of the few true desires that she has.

Through the Empty SEKAI and Miku reflecting Mafuyu's heart, it's believed that she'd been a gentle, kind girl before everything went wrong. These days however, if she's not acting she's blunt and doesn't consider her words or their effect on others- though Ena's scolding helps her realize when she is acting terribly, for which she's genuinely grateful to the other girl. Mafuyu's emotional recovery has been very, very slow, but she's doing her best to navigate her own distorted heart, and it's worth noting that even when she doesn't have to she leans towards kindness naturally.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Just arrived!
Items: A school backpack (several notebooks and textbooks for a standard girl's school, cram school books, and supplies), her cellphone and her laptop.
Retained Ability: The only supernatural ability Mafuyu has is the completely inexplicable ability to enter the Empty SEKAI, a world born from her feelings and inhabited by unique versions of various Virtual Singers such as Miku Hatsune, Kagamine Rin and more, through playing the song Composing the Future on her phone. Given that this is basically a personal pocket dimension where Vocaloids act as your counselors, I understand if this isn't compatible to the game and unable to be accessed at all!

Canon Point:
History:

Personality:

"I won't let anyone else fight for me."

Once, in another life, Ryoko Shinonome was a perfectly normal girl. Quiet and introverted, her relative comfort in spending time alone could come off as aloofness or even coldness. Despite that, she was warm and sweet to the people she cares for and surprisingly earnest and open with her emotions. She was straightforward and often idealistic to the point of being a touch naive and easily manipulated by people who perhaps don't have her best interests at heart. In many ways, though, her naivety was its own kind of strength, allowing her to put her sharp intelligence and determination to good use when fighting kaiju.

That being said, the girl the present day Ryoko seems to be didn't come from exactly nowhere. She has a spiteful, stubborn streak that surfaces at inopportune times and it's not all that hard to get her to mistrust people who otherwise might be able to help her. She's also a little too comfortable using other people for her own purposes - as mentioned in her history section, she fake dates a boy in middle school entirely to get her parents off her back and then breaks up with him once he's served his purpose without ever once explaining herself or seemingly feeling any sort of guilt about it.

This seems to stem from a relationship with her parents that's quietly implied to be... complicated at best. Perhaps the biggest red flag in this regard is Ryoko's willingness to martyr herself for the people she cares about, throwing herself under the bus if she thinks it's what they want. Tetsuya Ida's manipulation of her is said to be as easy as it is specifically because Ryoko is – as described by the director – used to having to look after and rely on herself, so the idea that anyone else would even think to do so is a revelation to her.

As of the present day, the attack on Sector 2 and its aftermath have broken Ryoko down and sharpened the pieces into cutting edges and razor sharp points. Her worst traits have been brought into sharp focus, with her determination becoming bull-headed stubbornness that makes her dangerous when pointed in the right directions. She's much more cynical and irritable, with much less patience than she may have had in other situations – though given how much pain she seems to be in on a moment to moment basis, it's less a lack of care and more that she doesn't have the energy to waste on social niceties, especially when she's on the warpath. She's also prone to, bluntly, conspiratorial thinking – her difficulty with her memories often means that she's only getting half of the story at any given time and this is made worse by Ryoko's tendency to form-fit the facts into pre-existing narratives she's already built for herself rather than learning from them. This is an unfortunate lasting effect of Tetsuya Ida's grooming of her – she was taught to mistrust everyone around her except for Ida and even after his death, that part of his influence lingers. What's left of her willingness to trust is hard won and she takes perceived betrayals incredibly badly, willing to lash out with real violence when her trust is broken.

All this isn't to say that her worst traits are all that remain of Ryoko. Given the opportunity to better herself in a healthy environment with those who care about her and Ryoko becomes a force to be reckoned with. She'll champion and protect people who are unable to do so themselves and her understanding of what it means to be betrayed by those you trusted most makes her doggedly loyal once her trust has been well and truly won. She's sharp as a tack and quick to adapt to situations where her quick thinking might be of use and most importantly of all, under all her barbs and bad attitude, she's a truly compassionate girl who understands pain better than any girl her age should have to. Ryoko's issue isn't a lack of love, but rather, an overabundance of it directed towards people who certainly don't deserve it and in a situation where her love is put towards championing the right sort of people then she might just become unstoppable.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately
Items: Her medication (NM-C0204) and her phaser gun (said to be able to 'kill an elephant' at its highest levels, can stun humans non-lethally or kill on lower levels as required. Happy to nerf this if necessary!)

Retained Ability: ya girl has bugs in her brain!!! this is absolutely to her detriment, but Ryoko has nanomachines in her brain that allow her to do a variety of things in her home canon but in Kaisou will do absolutely nothing but eventually start pulling themselves out of her brain. Fun!! Resetting them to beginner levels will essentially halt and reset this deterioration but I would love to deal with that gradually reasserting itself and Ryoko having to fix it at some point down the line if that's doable!

Character Name: Jane Porter
Canon: Disney's Tarzan
Canon History: And I was saved! Saved by a flying wild man in a loin cloth.

Canon Personality: Jane is a woman of high class and education who, despite the lifestyle lived by she and her father in their zoological explorations, still manages to maintain a certain level of standards. She has an idea of how people ought to behave and does not see herself as ‘lesser’ simply for being a woman, quickly standing up to the likes of Tarzan when he oversteps, and the brutish Clayton when he doubts her ability. Her idea of what is ‘proper’ is a fairly lax one given the standards of the day, but she is quite firm about not stretching those boundaries too far, particularly with those she does not know very well.

She is a bright, adventurous young woman who will boldly set foot where no one has gone before with little fear for the consequences to herself. Her general fearlessness (to a point) can manifest as a kind of prideful arrogance which feeds very much into her habit of getting herself into trouble, but her curiosity is genuine and she takes great care in respecting the new places in which she finds herself. After all, they don’t belong to her.

Despite her upbringing, Jane is undeniably eccentric, though big-hearted and with an artistic soul that is implied to make her very similar to her mother. She has an ambitious, spontaneous streak which has taken her all over the world and driven her to become an accomplished zoologist as well as to develop impressive artistic skills which allow her to draw detailed sketches even from memory. Her intelligence is not only in what she knows and what skills she has developed, but also emotionally. Jane is an empathetic individual who cares deeply about others, be they human or animal, and she maintains a level of open-mindedness that lends itself well to being quick to adapt to new situations.

Compassion is something which comes easily to Jane, and her openness to attempting to understand new things is something that ties into how well she expresses it. She would not be one to turn away from someone who was hurt or distressed, even if they had caused her harm before. Though she can be more wary of those she sees as not aligning with her own values, she will not pre-emptively turn away from them, but will let their actions speak for themselves. She does have a certain naivete, however. Her upbringing has not been sheltered by usual definition, but her absorption into the world she and her father create in their travels and studies together has closed her off slightly to always being able to ascertain the motivations of other people.

Jane is a talkative individual who sometimes over-shares, with a sense of humour that is as eccentric as she is. Her various flaws make her far from perfect despite her talents, but her sunny disposition, will to soldier on even when everything seems stacked against her, and her ability to follow her heart to the things she truly desires (despite what she knows is expected of her) make her a delightful young woman to be around.

AU History: Jane comes from a fairly well-off family even in the modern era. Her father is a prominent university professor and researcher and her mother an accomplished artist, and she has lived what most people would consider to be a charmed life. When she was in her late teens she decided to try and strike out on her own and moved away from her family home to start up somewhere entirely new, though she never did quite learn what it was like to truly be on her own (she has always had her parents' generosity to fall back on).

Despite her privileged upbringing, Jane has always been generous and charitable to a fault and when she eventually settled on starting a business in Kaisou she did so with the idea that if she could make even one person's life better then everything would have been worth it.

With this in mind she opened an art and literary store in town and holds free painting classes one night a week that anyone can drop in on if they want to learn something new. Though she hasn't quite reached the point of considering herself a pillar of the community she does cherish each and every person that comes in through the doors! She's even considering putting some of the books in the store aside to use as a library.

AU Personality Differences: Honestly, not many! The kind of life that Jane has lived in her alternate timeline has allowed her to develop many of the same personality traits that are seen in canon. Her spirit and adventurousness are intact, as well as her occasionally troublesome sense of pride and her tendency to stick her nose into things that she shouldn't be involving herself in. The main difference would be the difference between the sensibilities of a Victorian woman and a modern-day woman - Jane does not have the same societal concerns as someone living in 1912 would, and a woman at that, and thus she is far more confident when it comes to matters of gender roles/expression, personal fashion and her 'place' in society. She would be far less likely to take being spoken down to or bossed around... though it could be argued she wasn't really putting up with that to begin with.

Character Name: Dolores Madrigal
Canon: Encanto
Canon Point: End of the movie
History: Cousin Dolores can hear a pin drop.

Personality:
My cousin Dolores can hear this whole chorus a mile away!

Dolores is the eldest child of Pepa and Félix, but despite being the oldest of their three children she is heavily overshadowed by her beautiful and beloved cousin Isabela. Despite this, Dolores shows no outward animosity towards her cousin or indeed to any of her family, who she is very close to. She clearly dotes on her brothers and is helpful to her cousins, even giving Mirabel the clue that Luisa's eye had been twitching and putting her on the path to finding out what was wrong with the encanto's miracle.

She is a quiet person who keeps to herself and has a tendency to fade into the background during family occasions (though not quite as much as Mirabel). The nature of her gift means that she hears everyone's gossip and secrets even if she doesn't want to, and she can sometimes have trouble keeping those secrets to herself! It is implied that she is something of a gossip (Mirabel's comment that Dolores would 'tell everyone' about Bruno's vision), but she does not do this from a place of malice and is able to keep secrets if she believes that it would be the best thing for the family (such as Bruno's continued presence in the house). It's possible that she keeps herself held slightly apart from the other people living in the valley to avoid potentially awkward situations, as her gift is no secret and everyone would know that she can hear everything they say.

As well as this, she also tends to not express her own thoughts and feelings and puts those of other people above her own in many cases. She will also always put the good of the family - or the perceived good of the family - above her own wants and needs. Though she is in love with Mariano, she says nothing as she believes she is fated to never be with him due to Bruno's vision, and pursuing him would cause difficulty in the family as Alma wants him to marry Isabela.

Dolores' gift means that she is very sensitive to noise, and although she will put herself into situations that are hard for her to cope with (usually for the sake of the family) she will often put her hands over her ears when things around her start to get loud.

Without her powers, Dolores remains a kind and diligent person who is always willing to lend a hand and to get her hands dirty if need be. She searches for her missing cousin with the rest of the family after helping Alma sit down following the collapse of the house, and happily helps with the rebuilding work. The loss of her gift as well as the rest of the events surrounding the house's destruction also seemed to give her more confidence, allowing her to finally confess her feelings to Mariano.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediate arrival!

Items: Just the clothes on her back at her canon point - white and yellow shirt with golden-colored trimming on it, a long red skirt with yellow streaks, a red choker with a golden gem adorned with a ruby on the middle of it, and heart-shaped golden earrings, and red sandals. She also wears a red ribbon which holds her hair up in a bun.

Retained Ability: Enhanced hearing: Dolores can literally hear a pin drop, and can hear a conversation happening a mile (or more) away if she is concentrating on it. To start with her hearing will only be very slightly better than your average person, which is honestly a good thing because Dolores can be a terrible gossip. This was the same as her previous arrival - I assume ability regains will reset!

Character Name: Hypnos
Canon: Hades (game)
Canon History: Ta-dah.

Canon Personality:
Hypnos is a generally friendly guy. He likes most people he meets. He has no problem talking to or engaging with strangers. In fact, for canon, it is a part of his job! Most of his friendly nature comes across as him being a bit of a tease towards just about everyone. New people he meets and old friends are all subject to his teasing. He loves to make jokes and give bad advice about any situation at hand (don't step on spikes if you don't want to die, just saying). He brings a certain level of joy and cheer to the House of Hades, which is an otherwise dark setting. His good-natured attitude is a breath of fresh air.

Although he is friendly, friendship with him can take a little time and energy to build. It's not difficult, but effort is absolutely needed to build a real level of trust with him to where he'd share more personal parts of himself with someone. Luckily, his easy going nature makes it pretty easy to spend time with him to build it to that point.

Because Hypnos comes across as an extremely easy going guy, it can come across as being lazy. He isn't necessarily perceived as the best employee, although he does develop a love for certain parts of his job. He has a love for making lists then completing all of the tasks. He found them to be helpful for ensuring he has time for all of his work tasks and things he enjoys (which is just...sleep, to be honest).

Because of his easy going nature, it is hard to frazzle, frustrate, or annoy him. Those buttons would have to be pretty intensely pressed in order to even get any sort of intense reaction (like anger) out of him. Or, if what is being said to him comes from a close family member or friend - he tends to take them to heart because they are someone he trusts.

Even though he comes across as fairly sure of himself and who he is, his self-esteem isn't always the best. He never really receives much praise and is more inclined to believe a criticism than a compliment, and certainly not one from one of his stern family members. (For example: when Nyx compliments him on his improved work ethic he assumes it must come from Hades himself rather than her). This comes across less in the form of talking down about himself, and more in the surprise when he does get a compliment.

Hypnos is deeply loyal and caring towards people he cares about - especially his family. Even though his family members all seem to express their care and love towards him in a very different way from him - at his core he trusts and knows that they love him. Once he has someone that he cares about, he's going go to bat for them in any way that he can. He takes their opinions of him seriously, and will listen should they provide advice. The opinions of his family and friends matter a lot to him. He cares about how they feel and he will take their words said to heart.

AU History: Hypnos grew up in a comfortable home with a single mother. She worked hard, provided, and he lived a great life with his siblings early in life. He comes from a fairly big family (both in the number of people in it and the stature of them, considering he is over 7' tall). Even though he's been treated well as the youngest of all of his siblings, he tends to be a bit of the black sheep of the bunch. While most of his family is extremely hard working and can come across as emotionally distant, Hypnos is a bit lazy and extremely friendly.

In his youth, Hypnos struggled with schooling and education, and came across as highly unmotivated in the classroom. That's probably going to happen if you spend half of your school day sleeping while in class. It isn't to say that he didn't put in any effort - his assignment books were always in order, but he rarely completed tasks while in the classroom. However, work he could bring home and complete he had a much easier time working through.

As he grew up, it was strongly emphasized that he would need to put in more work and effort to get anywhere or be successful. Through both his own effort and with the help of a teacher who cared and a couple of classmates, he figured it out. He managed to find methods to help him both accomplish his tasks and get the rest that he needed. By the end of high school, and at the start of college - he had developed a pretty good pattern of behavior that worked! After schooling he found a job working in accounting - finding that the organization helped him be successful and accomplish things, while also being able to enjoy his free time. He likes when tasks are done!

He currently does the books for Jane Porter's store, and is currently married to her. (Note that this has been discussed by both Fii and myself and is on the up and up!)

AU Personality Differences: There's going to be very few differences in personality! The biggest one is that in canon he had Zagreus as a source of motivation for him as his closest friend. The guy helped him heal his relationships with family, and he never had that. As such, there is some distance that is there still and doesn't seem to be seeking approval from them. Instead, he is motivated by his relationships with the people who are currently in his life and himself. However, Hypnos will still be a friendly, easy to get along with guy. He may tease too hard at times, but it never comes across as cruel. He's still extremely loyal and loves and cares for his family, even though they are distant from him at this time. People are still going to likely see him as being a bit lazy. He is still a very sleepy boy prone to just nodding off at random times.

Character Name: Takame Kesi
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV (WOL OC) oh god another one
Canon Point: Post Endwalker 6.0
History: Here! With links to the MSQ’s summaries included.

Personality:
Takame is someone who wants to find himself. He is lost in his life, wandering through it without a purpose desperate to find his calling. He doesn’t know who he is or what kind of person he’s supposed to be. Unless he’s given an explicit goal or task to achieve, he’ll do one of two things: Stay in the same spot until he is or scurry off on his own letting instinct guide him into something that will more than likely get him or someone else hurt. This isn’t to say he has no regard for the wellbeing of others, just that his regard for his own wellbeing is kind of inconsistent.

The main reason why he’s so lost is because of his circumstances growing up. He was raised to fight, to be on guard at all times, to be a servant of Garlemald and quell any of its opposition before it had a chance to sprout. He only knew that life until he reached adulthood. When it all gradually changed and he saw that there was more to the world it overwhelmed him, made him feel vulnerable. He still isn't used to it. He is a creature of habit, constantly seeking out the next order to follow, always looking for his next commanding officer. Though he never complains, he doesn’t react emotionally to change very easily.

In fact, he doesn’t even react emotionally. Rarely does his face show any readable expression, barely a furrow of the brow, hardly a quirk of the lips, never a change in his tone. He can come off unsettling and uncaring. Emotions he had growing up were treated as unnecessary. When he was young this suppression of his feelings manifested in anger that he used to intimidate if not brutally cut down anyone who stood against him. As an adult this rage faded and fizzled out leaving nothing more than a shell of an Au Ra that’s severely emotionally stunted. On his worst days feels that anything done is pointless, simply prolonging the inevitability of someone stronger annihilating everything. Takame has picked up on the fact that many find his pessimistic outlook off putting so he’ll take cautious steps to avoid making it known. He learned he had trouble with his expressiveness, so instead of voicing his actual thoughts he’ll say things that are more optimistic and altruistic, spouting empty words and platitudes because he believes it is the “right” thing to say. It helps to not push people away, though it makes the question of who he is harder to answer.

Since he’s so apathetic and used to being pulled around all the time, he’s honestly kind of a pushover. More often than not you’ll see him following along with or being literally dragged by the whims of someone more authoritative, even if they have him doing something life-threatening or just plain ridiculous. If he’s asked to do something, he’ll more than likely do it. He won’t even ask what it is. Of course, he has some limits, like he’s significantly less likely to do something if he doesn’t know the one asking him or if they’re not otherwise his superior in an established hierarchy. Usually. If not that he’ll just freely allow someone to insult him and he’ll just stand there and take it. Despite being very studious and aware of how indifferent the world can be, his emotional intelligence is almost nonexistent. To his credit, he's very aware that he's a fool in this regard.

Takame is a pushover socially to be sure, but he isn’t one in battle. He’s merciless. He was brought up with the view that the strong will prevail over all. He has confidence in his skills with the blade. In battle he is relentless and swift, seeing nothing but his opponent. He gets an incredible high from the adrenaline rush an intense fight provides. Especially when up against someone much stronger than himself as he loves to be challenged. When his blood rushes, be it in a fight or otherwise, his impulsiveness goes into overdrive. While his respect for a hierarchy will almost always overcome this and thus keep him in control, he does tend to overestimate his abilities and get himself injured in an attack he could have otherwise avoided. He doesn’t have a fight or flight response, he has a fight or fight response.

One thing that cannot be denied about Takame is his absolute loyalty. Often to a fault. If someone acknowledges his skill, or acknowledges him at all he will swear fealty to them for life. Nothing will break his conviction. That applies whether the person in question is morally sound or not. Takame has no morals, his morals are that of whoever his current “Master” is. They can be just, honorable, and kind and he will obey. They can be cruel, murderous and oppressive and he will obey. He will become that person’s right hand, cling to them, drop everything to carry out their wishes. He is extremely dependent on other people to function. And should someone call into question the one he swore his life to, they will undoubtedly feel his ire. The anger within him didn’t completely dissipate, and the best way to get it out of him is to insult his most cherished individuals.

This is where the core aspect of many of his virtues becomes important. His younger sister Hina. It’s entirely thanks to habits he picked up from her that Takame isn’t completely socially inept. For one he lacks the superiority complex typical in most Garlean soldiers. In fact, he’s very polite and kind. He follows commands to the letter, yes, but he will never consider another person to be beneath him. Not because he strictly believes he’s at the bottom of the barrel (although to say he thinks highly of himself in light of learning the cruelty he contributed to would be a lie), but because he learned that they are all still fighting for something with certainty. It’s thanks to her that there is any wonder for him to find in the vastness of the realms he resides. Not because he’s a true optimist, but because he wants to learn why people have such zest. He wants to understand and he wants to make her proud. Because if he doesn't, then what is he but the weapon he was raised to be? That he still firmly believes he is despite wanting to be more than that.

His loyalty is just as much an asset as it it a flaw. As said earlier, he will swear fealty to a person for life. He would never ever betray someone’s trust, the thought alone disgusts him. Whether they trust him with a secret or their life, he takes the duty completely seriously. He puts every single ounce of his energy into his duty, even if he has to push himself to the limit to make sure it's done. He does not work in halves. Sometimes he does take things a bit literally but it just goes to show how hard working he is even with his talents mostly being limited to combat. Like his “fight or fight” response, he doesn’t have an all or nothing mindset, he has an all or all one.

This extends to wanting to keep his loved ones safe. Whether he’s defending them directly or not, he’ll go to any lengths to make sure the people he cares about are protected. When it comes to defense, he trusts his own skills the most and would rather not have to ask someone else. If he sets aside his warrior's pride and asks someone else, then he either trusts that person exponentially or senses great power in them. He’s aware of when someone can do a job better than him. The people around him give him purpose. For good or for ill, he will make sure people who deserve to live do and ones who don’t are eliminated. Under all of his stunted emotions is a loving heart.

For all of Takame’s habitual clinginess, impulsiveness, and stoicism he wants to be more than he is now. It took the literal heart of his world calling to him in a dream and telling him to think to make him do it. In the end he only did because he was told, more of him falling into habits, but for once it was to his benefit. He wants to learn about himself, he wants to learn why people are defiant. He wants to learn why people smile, why his sister smiles all the time even in the most dire situations. He knows now that he cannot be stronger unless he grows. And he is willing to.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediate arrival.

Character Name: Hu Tao
Canon: N/A
Canon History: Here!

Canon Personality:
-Weird
-Cheerful
-Quirky
-Mischievous
-Dutiful
-Bold
-Oblivious
-Pushy
-Just…odd in general

AU History: (Give a quick rundown of their AU history in Kaisou)

Hu Tao lived in China for most of her life with her entire family. Her family were doctors at a local village while her grandfather owned a funeral parlor. That said, it was no surprise that Hu Tao took interest in her grandfather’s business as she was a lot closer to him than her parents. Despite the initial misgivings, both parents eventually agreed that Hu Tao would become a funeral director. Although, as she continued her studies up to high school, she felt as though living in China wasn’t for her. In her mind, she wanted to see what the world had to offer for her.

When she heard that Xingqiu, her best friend, had moved to Kaisou, she wanted to give living in America a try. Despite her parents saying no, they eventually agreed as there was no changing her mind.

Now that she moved here, she couldn’t wait to get started! She is loving her life right now as she studies what she wants and lives in a place where she doesn’t feel restricted! Although, she couldn’t help but wonder why she keeps seeing strange things in the sky….

AU Personality Differences:
AU!Hu Tao is a lot more outspoken than usual now that she doesn’t have an issue about speaking openly about death as compared to her canon counterpart. Additionally, since she has her grandfather (and family) still around, the issue about being lonely isn’t a problem. However, that also means Hu Tao still has a lot of regrets that she holds onto. With that, she isn’t as worldly.

Yuri Leclerc | Fire Emblem: Three Houses | Paranormal Modern AU

[personal profile] yuri_bird 2022-10-15 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Ryuu
Contact: redknightdistrict @ Plurk
Invited by: Me, myself, and I
Other Characters: Will Solace

Character Name: Yuri Leclerc (fake name; his real name is strongly speculated to be Regulus)
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Canon History: Three Houses, Yuri

Canon Personality: 🎵 Yuri constantly looks for ways to manipulate people into getting him what he wants or needs. This ranges from money to supplies to connections. Sometimes this means changing his identity to suit his needs. Sometimes it means selling his body or his blade.

🎵 Anyone he considers to be "his" people have his protection for life, unless they betray him. That being said, earning his trust is really difficult.

🎵 Betrayal tends to lead to death, though Byleth is one of the very, very few people who can persuade him not to take that route.

🎵 Yuri hardly ever does anything for himself. Everything he does, no matter how much it bloodies his hands or stains his soul, it's all for the people of Abyss or to send money to his mom.

🎵 The death of his people always hit him hard. He keeps a notebook full of the names of those he's lost over the years so that they're never forgotten.

🎵 He uses his charm and good looks as a tool to get what he wants/needs.

🎵 He very much hates his father for abandoning him and his mom, and he has absolutely zero desire to find out who he is.

🎵 Yuri doesn't really view himself in a positive light. He sees his actions as a sinner to be unforgivable, but he doesn't regret taking those actions when it means the continued survival of Abyss. He'll sacrifice his soul for them if he has to.

🎵 There's a major implication in his support conversation with Dorothea that he'd been sexually assaulted at least once by a noble because his talent for singing was "good enough" for the noble's fantasy of being with Dorothea. He tells her bitterly that the incident made him feel "filthy and unlovable." As a result, Yuri only ever sings for children and never anyone else.

🎵 Did I mention he's threatened and followed through with murder to anyone who jeopardizes the health and safety of his people? Because he's done that even to Byleth. Though just the once.

AU History: Regulus was raised by a single mom who had divorced her husband before he was born. His father had no interest in ever meeting his son, but he did at least pay for most of the childcare costs. Still, the family lived paycheck to paycheck and his mom barely made enough to make ends meet. When he was in elementary school, Regulus started showing signs that he'd inherited an affinity for magic. His mom was never sure which side of the family he'd inherited it from, and Regulus had no interest in finding out. He had it and he had to train himself in how to actively use his invisibility, since at the time he went invisible whenever he was scared. That was all that mattered.

When he reached high school age, he started working part-time to help bring in a bit more income to help his mom out. Regulus also became more interested in his drama and chorus classes. He showed potential, and his teachers encouraged him to shoot for careers that'd let him use his talent for acting and/or singing. Regulus took that advice to heart. After graduating high school with enough scholarships under his belt to fully pay for college, and with a hard-earned acceptance letter from Juilliard, Regulus started taking classes the following fall. It meant only seeing his mom during the holidays, but she was proud of him and told him not to worry about her.

Regulus took on a stage name around this time and went by Yuri Leclerc. He didn't want the general public to know his real name and bother his mom. This became especially true when Yuri started making a name for himself in Broadway. By the time he'd graduated Juilliard at 22, he'd landed a major role in a Broadway musical, and it jumpstarted his career. The money he made went toward his necessities, savings, and his mom primarily, with only a little leftover for himself.

Yuri was 25 when he had to quit Broadway, even if it was only temporary. He'd been stalked by a "fan" for a couple of months, and then it'd turned violent. Yuri was left bleeding out to death in an alley, which might have been where his story completely ended had it not been for a spirit answering his prayer to continue living. A wolf spirit. He agreed to form a pact with it, and the wolf saved his life. While recovering in a hospital, Yuri pressed charges against the man, but his stalker/attempted-murderer got away with only five years in prison for felony assault of the first degree. Apparently, the fact that Yuri was able to heal so quickly meant that it wasn't serious enough to put that man away for longer. There was one thing that felt good and it was that his would-be murderer had to pay for his hospital costs.

After that incident, he decided to "take a break" and switched career paths. Yuri looked for work outside of New York to get far away from his stalker, since he wasn't sure what the man would do to him after being released from prison. As it turned out, the drama teacher at a high school in Kaisou had quit in the middle of the school year. Yuri applied, scored an interview, and was offered a position as the new drama teacher, which he happily accepted. He informed his mom and used some of his savings to pay for the move out to the Midwest.

That first year was a bit rough, but he survived and found he liked teaching these rambunctious kids. Things just got weirder when his first full year as the drama teacher started with a mysterious app installing itself on his phone.

AU Personality Differences: 🐦 It's easier to earn his trust, though he does maintain a healthy distrust of strangers at first.

🐦 Even after the incident with his stalker, he's still willing to sing for fun with friends and family.

🐦 He doesn't go anywhere near as hard into manipulating people as his past self had to. Yuri certainly has the capacity to do so, but he's never had a reason to in this life.

🐦 Though he still has moral greyness and a relatively low opinion of himself (especially for a Broadway personality), Yuri doesn't have the complicated guilt his past self has.

Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: Invisibility (5 minutes, 2 points) and slightly better night vision (1 point)
Possession: The spirit of a wolf has possessed Yuri. In exchange for its power, whenever he sees a raven, he must actively try to befriend it and protect it from harm by any means.

Anna | Frozen | Paranormal Modern AU

[personal profile] alovingheart 2022-10-16 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Soap
Contact: [plurk.com profile] favors
Invited by: I go here now!
Other Characters: Yoosung Kim, Five

Character Name: Anna (last name Albrecht, in AU)
Canon: Frozen
Canon History: A helpful wiki link!
(Also a link to BreezeWiki which should help get rid of fandom wiki ads and banners and crap to make the site actually readable?)

Canon Personality:
- Caring, kind, and thoughtful
- Excitable, adventurous
- Friendly, outgoing
- Playful, light-hearted
- Slightly awkward
- Sometimes overly romantic and idealistic
- Protective of loved ones
- Impulsive at times (but listen she's from the school of Listen To Your Heart)

AU History: Spent her childhood traveling the world, as her parents make food and culture documentaries. (She can speak a little in several languages because of this but is only really fluent in English.) She was also homeschooled her whole life because of this. She's related to Snow White on her father's side (cleared this with Jax, Snow's player). She's a variety vlogger, content creator and influencer online, not famous but with a big enough following to pay the bills! She's kept in contact with Snow growing up (being six years older than her) and upon turning 20 has decided to move to Kaisou to try and win guardianship over her to save Snow from her abusive stepmother, as well as finally set down roots for herself away from her own parents (who she does adore but she desperately wants a stable place to call home).

AU Personality Differences: She's more cautious in what she says and even thinks due to her possession, though that's only in regards to not wanting to upset her unicorn. She still overshares on occasion. She's a little less prone to jumping into adventure and is a little more eager for stability due to how she grew up. She's had lots of adventures already though and is quite happy to share and talk about them!

Element: None yet
Purchased Powers: Shapeshift into a unicorn (3 points)
Possession: Unicorn! Anna got lost in a forest when she was fourteen and had to spend a night there. While dying of exposure to the elements, she was saved by a unicorn at the end of its own very long life who came upon her, liked her, and decided it would live on through her. This gives her the usual possession benefits (heals faster, slower aging, more energy) as well as the ability to shapeshift into said unicorn (though it can and sometimes does override her will while she's shifted, though she can shift back at any time), but her contract price is that any negative (or "impure," as unicorns are pure and just, though I don't wanna touch "impurity" in regards to sexuality because it's 2022 and even unicorns at this point should be over that puritanical bs, amirite?) thoughts toward others physically pain her. This occurs in the form of headaches. Lying gets her a full-on light-sensitivity migraine, requiring her to lay down for a while, and thinking of physically harming someone for any reason can sometimes give her a nosebleed (this sort of depends on whether the unicorn thinks it's a Just action/thought or not).

Hopefully that works for possession but obviously I'm open to working it out with you if anything needs changing!

Character Name: Yusuke Kitagawa
Canon: Persona 5 Royal (and Strikers)
Canon History: Here

Canon Personality:
  • Single-Minded especially about art.
  • Eccentric and aware of it, though he does get offended if it's pointed out or made fun of.
  • Blunt at times, saying what he means without really caring if it might be seen as rude (or even realizing it in the first place).
  • Occasionally clueless though this is largely due to his very sheltered upbringing.
  • Kind because despite being blunt and to the point, he does recognize when someone else is suffering and works to understand it as best he can.
  • Stubborn and sometimes without even realizing how pushy he's getting.

  • AU History: Born in Japan, Yusuke's life in Kaisou more or less went as it did in canon. His mother lost her husband and then died of a stroke when Yusuke was three. While it was possible she could have survived, her art teacher Ichiryusai Madarame decided to let her die so that he could take the piece meant for Yusuke and claim it as his own to jumpstart his career after a bout of artist's block. Madarame took Yusuke in and subjected the boy and other students to frankly terrible conditions and abuse that ended in at least one suicide and countless ruined dreams.

When Yusuke was sixteen, a cousin on his mother's side located him in Tokyo and started the process of getting him out of Madarame's house. This resulted in a messy lawsuit that ended with Madarame's abuses and plagiarism brought to light, and Yusuke moving to America with his cousin a couple of years later to escape the drama and fame. Once in America, Yusuke got into the School of the Art Institute in Chicago on a scholarship, graduated, and then promptly went back to school to gain the required degree to teach high school art. After graduating, he taught for one year in another state before moving to Kaisou.

AU Personality Differences: He's mostly the same just slightly more aware of social norms. Still doesn't care about most of them, but he is aware of them!

Character Name: Aziraphale (aka Mr. Fell)
    Canon: Good Omens + CRAU
    Canon History:
    Wiki for canon

    CRAU
Diatu - Diatu was a magic school. Like with OTHER more famous magic schools, the students were sorted. He was sorted into Ka - the house focused on Sundering magic. Sundering, or summoning/portals/etc, is the formerly banned magic that sundered/ripped the player characters from their own worlds into the world of Diatu. Ka's uniform colors were red and black (Crowley's colors), and the house had a reputation as "a House of dangerous weirdos all inches away from unleashing demonic hordes into the Tenscore Kingdoms." Aziraphale took a snake as a familiar because he missed a certain wily serpent. --Missed him so much, actually, that he spent the better part of his time for the first few months attempting to learn and master the art of Sundering so that he could...you guessed it...summon his friendly neighborhood demon.

Tramitem - Mr. Fell was a British ex-pat living in NYC as an art restorer. He began to have memories of a past life, including a memory of a red-haired man in sunglasses who suggested he could kill a boy they saw in the park. Fell eventually met the man's alternate universe alter ego, Anthony Crowley. They had a rocky start, but Fell was quickly infatuated. Over the course of his time there, he befriended Anthony's cousin, Alec, was reunited with his snake familiar Creme Brulee, and fell for Anthony, despite his demonic leanings.

Avalon - Aziraphale, now with memories restored, has to reconcile Fell's life with his own, including the familial relationship with Alec and the blossoming romance with Anthony…his dearest friend, the demon Crowley. Creme came along for the ride, but as a perfectly normal snake now. He also found himself saddled with a grumpy new familiar, Lamassu. I think his magic was Alchemy, but it was kind of irrelevant--the real test of Avalon was the bond between Aziraphale and the two Crowleys…Anthony and Alec.

    Canon Personality:

Good, but also fairly selfish. Sometimes he comes off as naive because of this. Heaven tends to walk all over him because they're basically bullies. He's polite, well-mannered, and sometimes a bit snippy.

Nervous and uncomfortable with breaking the rules outright, but is definitely not averse to bending or manipulating the meanings and boundaries to fit his needs - If Crowley is willing to do the bending and manipulating FOR him, even better. But then sometimes his nerves get the better of him and he lies or wishy-washies over the truth to protect himself after he breaks the rules.

Finds time to do what makes him happy - He’s fussy, stuffy and quite enjoys his life as it is, likes to spoil himself (and be spoiled) to a dinner out, a nice glass of wine, a bit of luxury… (He loves food. The man nearly died for crepes!) And he covets his stuff. He hasn't changed his clothing choices in decades. And his books are not for sale.

Clever but incredibly stupid - He is legitimately intelligent, but (like nearly everyone in the series, but especially also his bff Crowley) he is also a dummy. He makes silly decisions, gets himself into trouble. He's naive and gullible. But he's also the one who put together Agnes' prophecies and figured out who the Antichrist was. He's very well-read.

    AU History:

Ashley Zacharias Fell was born into a well-to-do British family with a long history of clergymen, at least one witch (but we don't talk about her), and even ancient ties to the Vatican. He was ultimately disinherited when he chose not to go into the church and came out as gay.

With what funds he retained as his own, and with a little luck, he traveled around the world. In his travels, he has learned about magic in its varying forms and in various cultures and built up a collection of items related to spiritualism, mysticism, and the like.

Fell is well-educated and well-read and has always been fascinated with mysticism and the esoteric. Over his lifetime, he has spent countless hours researching and acquiring tomes, various apocrypha, maps, and items related to paranormal and the organizations tied up in it. He is quite proud to say that he has one of the largest privately-held collections of books of prophecies outside of any library or organization.

He has studied the basic concepts of magic--both sleight of hand and "actual" magic--as well as divination, witchcraft, and spiritual mediums. For a time, he even read palms, tarot, and provided seances (ala Madame Tracey, who Aziraphale canonically possesses at one point) under the appropriately theatrical and mystical sounding name Aziraphael. None of these abilities are things he actually currently possesses.

In fact, as far as Fell is concerned, he has no magical ability at all. It's largely just academic.

Of particular interest to him, for somewhat obvious reasons, are the Black Order, and The Fellowship of Skalds. He currently belongs to neither, but suspects his family may have once had ties to the Black Order.

He came to Kaisou for reasons he's not entirely sure of. Perhaps he was drawn to it. Perhaps it just felt like a place to come to.

He relocated from Salem, Massachusetts where he had established a business when he first moved to the states, and set up shop in Kaisou as an antiquities dealer. He sells what he can bring himself to part with, which isn't much. He buys more than he has reasonable space for.

Heaven help you if you outbid him.

Fell is a bit of an odd duck. He generally keeps to himself, except for going to the theater when possible. He looks the quintessential part of a kooky librarian and his shop is a clutter of his books and relics and odds-and-ends: something vaguely Jules Verne, a little Méliès Le Voyage dans la Lune, a touch of the sinister and occult, and a bit of that classic wizard/astronomer/strange little librarian aesthetic. Wouldn't be unreasonable to think he might have been Merlin in another lifetime.

He is perpetually annoyed by the tick-tock and instant-photogram crowd that come in to take pictures in his shop for AESTHETIC. Do please get out.

    AU Personality Differences:
Slightly less social since he doesn't have Crowley to pal around with, and perhaps more of an outward skeptic and questioner of things than Aziraphale canonically allowed himself to do given Heaven's wrath. Otherwise, he's still excited by the things he enjoys, possessive of the things he owns, happy to learn and taste and try, and buried in too many books.

    Element: Light

    Purchased Powers:
    - 2 pts - Small light-spirit companion (hamster-size aka can fit in your hands) -- Creme Brulee, a small hognose snake who was Aziraphale's magical familiar in Diatu and a pet/companion in Tramitem and Avalon. The snake is believed to be a pesky pet at the moment and will be treated as such, but Fell will discover it is magical sometime later (at which time I'll probably purchase the ability to talk to it). Historically, it has an obnoxiously bad habit of causing Aziraphale to phone the wrong Crowley. What a nuisance.
    - 1 pt - reduced need for sleep (canonically Aziraphale doesn't have to sleep unless he chooses and there is not enough time in the day to waste with sleeping when there are THINGS TO LEARN)

(at some point later, he'll acquire the ability to turn water into Holy Water, but that'll be when it's more relevant and devastating)

    Possession:
This is so tempting because canonically he possesses a human briefly, but …maybe not yet.

    Character Name: Cecil Gershwin Palmer
    Canon: OU
Canon Point: End of Season 1
    History: Found here

Personality: Seemingly calm and soothing. He's a radio show host, so he has a very calming voice. However, despite this, he's prone to outbursts over perceived slights, especially if Steve Carlsburg is mentioned. Listen here, Steve Carlsburg... He's had enough of your antics. He is also prone to bouts of boyish glee if he mentions his crush, even slightly. He adores Carlos, currently, the perfect scientist with his perfect hair and his perfect teeth and his brilliant, perfect smile. However, as of right now, it's a one sided crush.

He can be over enthusiastic over some things but can switch to serious at a moment's notice. The strangeness of Night Vale is normal to him, so his ethics and morals are a bit questionable. However, he views himself as "innocent and kind". Cecil's belief systems often require a tremendous amount of dissonance. His broadcasts often are contradictory, contain impossible instructions, and, at times, get banned midway and must be renounced. He's been known to get in trouble for describing things that are indescribable or discussing things that are not supposed to be discussed, despite knowing that there are punishments specifically for this. His radio show also sometimes gives the impression that he doesn't fully agree or believe what he's saying but that he feels he needs to repress these thoughts. Most likely because he's very accepting of the fact that he lives in a military run town and to go against the status quo would have dire consequences. He is very proud of the town he lives in and sees nothing wrong with the way it's being run.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: A few days before November. His labyrinth will be a seemingly endless number of corridors within a single radio station. Some of the doors are locked. Some of them have no handles. Some have terrible figures that you fear to even look upon behind the fogged glass windows. Best not to think about those too long or deeply, lest they sense your thoughts.

    Character Name: Thanatos
    Canon: Hades
Canon Point: Following Persephone's return to the underworld

    History: Wiki link!

    Personality:
💀 Thanatos can be a challenging person to know. He doesn't let people close to him very easily (and seems to actually hold most at arms length). Exceptions to this are his twin brother Hypnos, his coworker Meg, and his childhood friend Zagreus.
💀 He is incredibly hard-working to the point of being a workaholic. The only thing that Thanatos seems to do is work, and he often uses it as an excuse to teleport out of conversations.
💀 As the God of Death he is very efficient and tends to expect that same efficiency of others in the House of Hades. He comes down particularly hard on his brother Hypnos for his apparent laziness, but is very proud of him when he comes up with a system that works for him.
💀 Stubbornness is definitely one of his defining traits. Once he gets stuck on an idea or a concept it's very difficult to move him off it or change his mind.
💀 Given his role in the Chthonic Pantheon, Thanatos is very independent. His self-reliance is commented on by his mother Nyx during a conversation with Zagreus, but this trait also has the effect of making him very isolated.
💀 Connected to the above... several points, he comes across as very unsociable. His role makes him an undesirable element to most other gods and few of them have a particularly high opinion of his personality.
💀 He's serious about many things. Not only his job, but also certain traditions and the idea that one should not involve themselves in the business of others. This can make him seem a little narrow-minded at times, but he is capable of coming around to other points of view if given time to think about it.
💀 When it comes to the orders of Hades or his mother, Thanatos is a very obedient person. He isn't comfortable with rule breaking (though he will do it, if his personal wishes override them) and will often try to keep others on the 'right' path even if it can make him look like an ass.
💀 Thanatos can be very abrasive in his speech - he rarely minces his words and is the kind of person to call a spade a spade. He's easily irritated by fools.
💀 Despite the length of his life, Thanatos can also be very childish. This comes into play particularly in emotional situations, where he clearly has no idea of how to properly deal with and process them and will often teleport himself out of an argument so he can get the last word. Though this does get better as he resolves his issues with Zagreus' abrupt departure, it's not something that is going to go away entirely.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Fresh meat pls.

Items: His clothes, sword, scythe (as pictured here).

    Retained Ability: Teleportation!

    Player Name: Val
    Contact: [plurk.com profile] honeyfoot
Invited by: I'm reapping a week after dropping \o/
    Other Characters: N/A

Character Name: Edalyn Clawthorne, or Eda for short
    Canon: The Owl House
    Canon History: hey hey wiki

    Canon Personality:

    • REBELLIOUS: Eda is as chaotic as they come, having been an infamous prankster at Hexside, one of the Boiling Isles’ magic schools. Her permanent record is thicker than most books. As an adult, she is a wanted criminal for refusing to submit to the mandatory coven system, as it restricts people to performing only one kind of magic and Eda isn’t about that. Also petty crimes like theft and running get-rich-quick-schemes that never quite seem to work out, seeing as she’s not exactly swimming in it. In general, she detests authorities of any kind, preferring to do things her own way. This even manifests when she is trying to learn glyph magic from Luz, as she declares learning the basics “boring” and proceeds to do wild and hazardous experiments. Basically, Eda is a fully grown adult who will absolutely blow raspberries at you if she doesn’t like your face.

    • CARING: Despite that, however, Eda also has a big huge heart and more than a little bit of a maternal instinct. While shenanigans are often had, Eda will generally try to keep the kids in her care out of actual danger if she can help it, and her arc over the series also sees her becoming more responsible and *gasp* making to-do lists because a kid needs a new coat or something like that. She makes a surprisingly good parent figure, as exemplified by, among others, that time she got over her personal deep disdain for the school system and did everything in her power (which included cleaning toilets) to get Luz enrolled at Hexside. And despite her often antagonistic relationship with her sister Lilith, Eda still loves her and is quick to forgive Lilith for putting her actual curse on her when they were young – while at the same time blaming herself for the ways she’s hurt her loved ones due to said curse.

    • ANXIOUS: Listen she talks a big game but there are quite a few things that scare Eda. Mostly, that’d be her own emotions. Due to her curse, she is scared to get close to people and has a habit of pushing them away and putting on a carefree façade in a bid to keep herself from going into the ~DANGER ZONE~ of actually caring about someone. And when she does get attached, the fear of losing said people looms over her. She also has a big tendency to run from her problems and pretend she’s fine when she is definitely not.

    • BOISTEROUS: Eda likes to brag! Be it about her skills in cheating at sports and games, her magic abilities, or how hot she is, Eda is often heard making quite grandiose claims about herself. Luckily for her, she can back many of them up. For example, she gave herself the title of Most Powerful Witch of the Boiling Isles and, barring Emperor Belos, that appears to be true… well, until she loses her magic to her curse, that is.

AU History: Eda was born to a lower middle class family consisting of father Dell, mother Gwendolyn, sister Lilith and her. She showed a penchant for getting into trouble early, and as time went on, became an open delinquent who constantly caused chaos at school, despite occasionally getting good grades and being a star football player. She spent a lot of time in detention.

As time went on, Lilith entered a bit of a goth phase, getting interested in the occult and witchcraft. Being very close to her sister, Eda took interest in the same and soon discovered that she had actual spirit power. She started to experiment with spells and potions on the sly.

Things went wrong when one day, when she was at home, a blast of unknown magic suddenly grabbed Eda, almost killing her. It was then that la Lechuza took possession of her, saving her life, but also, well, possessing her. Eda never found out where the blast came from, but since then, la Lechuza comes out and takes control of her in stressful situations and Eda can only bargain with her by eating small rodents every so often. Reactions in her family differed; her father was mostly absent anyway, while her mother became overprotective of Eda and started looking into about every alternative medicine and MLM scheme available. Eda’s relationship with her mother became very strained in the process, causing her to run away from home at one point, though she eventually returned.

In high school, she met Raine Whispers, whom she became fast friends with and eventually dated for a while. Raine broke it off when it became clear that, unlike them, Eda had not really figured out her direction in life, and furthermore was trying to hide her possession from them and emotionally pushing them away in the process.

Having had a contentions relationship with education at best and being impacted by her possession, the breakup was about the last push Eda needed to drop out of school shortly before graduating. She moved out of her family home and started supporting herself with odd jobs, not all of which were legal. Among her crimes are fraud and larceny, but she’s covered her tracks well enough that the police can’t pin anything on her, though they try every so often.

As of the present, she runs a small store with antiques and occult items of questionable origin.

AU Personality Differences: She’s maybe not quite as boastful, as she does not have reason to claim the title Most Powerful Witch of the Boiling Isles, but otherwise pretty much the same. Her hatred of the Coven System is transferred onto Zodiac in-game. She might also be a little less warm, as she has not met King or Luz and thus her strong motherly side lies dormant.

    Element: Wind
Purchased Powers: I would like “make objects you can hold in your hands float” for 2 points and “don’t need hairspray to make your hairstyle wind resistant” for 1 point!
Possession: She is possessed by la Lechuza, a witch in the form of an owl or owl-woman from Mexican folklore. Her contract price is having to eat small rodents every so often.

    AU Name: Harleen Quinzel
    AU Birthday: July 20, 1988

AU History: Harleen Frances Quinzel was born to Nick and Sharon Quinzel in Brooklyn, NY. Nick was a small-time con man in and out of jail for Harleen's entire life. Sharon was alternately inattentive and overbearing, often leaving Harleen to parent herself. Harleen was a latchkey kid, and started showing athletic aptitude early.

In late middle school through early high school, she fell in with a rougher crowd and started to sneak around. Harleen got her hands on a fake ID and smoked, drank, stayed out late, and dated older boys who had more in common with Nick than her mother approved of. In her Sophomore year of highschool, she brought her grades back up and refocused on gymnastics after learning student athletes could earn full ride scholarships. In fact, Harleen landed a full scholarship as part of a university's women's gymnastics team. She enrolled in a dual study program to achieve a Psychology BS and an Applied Behavior Analysis MS in 5 years. Between dual program studies and fulfilling her scholarship obligations, Harleen skipped nearly every social event of undergrad. She began wearing false glasses and dressing plainly during these years to take focus off her looks, deciding she would rather be noticed for her achievements.

After undergrad, Harleen moved on with another athletics scholarship to a joint MD/PhD program. She blossomed more at medical school than she had at undergrad, making friends and starting to develop a style that was more polished professional than intentional wallflower, although she was careful to curb impulses that felt too close to her rebellious teen years.

When she was 28, about halfway through her residency, she met Alec Hardy. She pursued him and the two began a whirlwind relationship. They were together for two years before, just when she was certain everything in her life was finally coming together, he left a one-word note and disappeared. In hindsight, their relationship wasn't very solid (neither of them were very forthcoming about their pasts or families) but it still hurt. Mostly her pride, if she's honest. (This relationship backstory was developed with full input and permission of Alec's player.)

Shortly after the abrupt end of this relationship, she finished her residency and began working fulltime as a criminal psychiatrist. She showed great promise but a couple years into her career, around the anniversary of Alec's disappearance, she was distracted while in session with a dangerous patient who sensed opportunity. The patient attacked and overpowered her and she was fatally wounded before security could intervene. Harleen's determination to survive caught the attention of a spirit that agreed to save her life in exchange for a few simple conditions.

Now possessed, Harleen had to give up practicing treatment as the contract price was too easily exploited. She shifted to research where she could safely keep to herself, and began researching magic and spirits in her personal time, even giving potion brewing a try. Eventually her pursuit of information on her, ahem, condition led her to relocate to Kaisou.

AU Personality Differences: Where canon Harley Quinn is pure id, Harleen has not fully given into purely instinctive pursuit of instant gratification. Harleen's basest impulses are very Harley, but she has not yet given up on self restraint. Her contract price, however, is driving her to say "fuck it" and let her impulsive side take the wheel.

Harleen is Harley-in-progress. Her worst qualities come out as more bitchy than criminally dangerous, and at this point she still knows her own limits. But her possession is encouraging her to test those boundaries and let that mask of a fastidious and ambitious professional slip.

She puts on a front of humility, as opposed to canon Harley's front of naivety, but is very proud of how far she's come at a young age, and the work put in to earn everything she has achieved. The fastest way to get under her skin is to disparage her accomplishments or dismiss her as a dumb blonde, but at this point in her life she fights with her words and not giant hammers or gonzo guns.

    Element: Wind
    Purchased Powers:
General: Detect if something/someone is magic (1 pt)
Elemental: Don't need hairspray to make hairstyle wind resistant (1 pt), Conjure a small gust of air (1 pt)
Possession: The supernatural being possessing her after her murder miraculous recovery is The Joker, a trickster spirit born of chaos and all around asshole. The Joker likes to whisper sweet nothings, tell horrible jokes, and encourage the worst decisions. As much as Harleen hates the contract price, she has to admit that nobody can make her laugh like him.

Inspired by two aspects of canon -- the first, Harley tells the Joker that she has "done everything [he] said" and the second, Harley must obey orders as part of Task Force X or the government implanted bomb in her neck gets kers-ploded -- Harleen's contract price is compulsive obedience. If someone says a direct command to her, whether by accident or on purpose, she has to do it. She has slowly learned the fine print (the command must be to her directly and not a general order, such as a posted sign, "should" is not an imperative, will not activate the compulsion if it is phrased as a question, and can be either verbal or written but must be in a language she knows) and become adept at malicious compliance.

She can choose to disobey, but doing so takes a physical toll. The stronger the command, the harder it is to resist, and resisting causes nosebleeds, migraines, tunnel vision, or even passing out. The more resisting she tries to do, the harder it becomes to disobey even indirect commands ("It would be nice if…" or "Wouldn't this be funny?"). Eventually she would even have to compulsively obey her own impulsive thoughts.
