Character Name: Denki Kaminari Canon: My Hero Academia Canon History:Here
Canon Personality:
⚡ Intense Extrovert Denki is a laid-back and easy-going guy that gets along with almost everyone. He's expressive and energetic with a tendency to be over-familiar with people, being very casual in his demeanor. Sometimes he can come off as blunt, but it's generally always well-meaning. Denki's very good at making people feel included and acts as a glue to hold his friends together and lighten their mood. He's very socially intelligent and empathic, excellent at breaking uncomfortable tension with dumb jokes or stupid comments, and always enjoys hanging out.
⚡ Comic Relief Always the class clown, Denki enjoys making other people laugh (even at his own expense sometimes). He jokes around a lot, but he also makes mistakes and messes up in a way that's comedic and makes tense moments disappear. He'll make playful comments in every situation and even teases the more volatile of his friends just to make others laugh... even if it might mean he gets in trouble for it. Making a fool of himself is always worth it when it makes his friends smile.
⚡ The Dumb One (But Not Really) Denki often comes off as a dim-witted idiot, failing his classes and making mistakes. He's known as the stupid one, but there's layers to everything. He's not academically smart, requiring massive help at studying due to his general attention issues and suffers from Test Anxiety. Underneath that, however, he has a surprising amount of literature knowledge, a vast vocabulary (which he hides) and knowledge of art and music. He's good at English and knows weird amounts of trivia, as well as the ins and outs of electricity. While he will never be a top student, his social genius is nothing to scoff at.
⚡ Loyal Friend Denki would die for his friends. Full stop. Even when frightened in battle, all he has to do is think of them and he gets the courage to fight even a whole army of villains. He'll throw himself into a pack of weird robots to help his friends move forward, even if it will incapacitate him, and he'll protect and defend the people he cares for viciously. Even talking bad about them makes his own fear wane and the analytic hero appears to clap back. He'll happily follow after two of the more destructive friends without thinking, because he's too loyal to hesitate when it's time for new explosive shenanigans.
⚡ Ladies Man In the beginning Denki was a skirt-chaser and a bit of a pervert, even if his fantasies stopped at maid cafes and looking at girls in bikinis. He often tried to flirt with girls or ask them out, only to be shot down. Once he got another friend group, however, this seems to have calmed down to more tolerable, typical teen boy levels. He'll flirt and be funny about it, rather than desperate. He also appears to have recently found an interest in men as well, calling a new future classmate attractive and cool.
AU History: Denki grew up in Japan, his mother an electrical engineer and his father a power plant manager. He had a pretty decent early childhood, even if he had some learning disabilities and tended to have a hard time in school.
At 10, he was hit by lightning while playing on a field during a thunderstorm and should have died from the massive current. However, the lightning bolt that hit him was actually a Raiju pup playing in the storm, and it had shot straight into his navel to make a home there. Instead of dying, Denki instead became possessed by the Thunder Beast.
A lot of trouble followed this possession, with his body not quite managing to share space with the spirit. His school work suffered more as an energetic puppy in his veins was a bad mix with his ADHD, and at 11 he had his first discharge in his room, popping every lightbulb and fuse in the house. He had a seizure right afterwards, his brain taken offline as he made a stupid face and pulled his thumbs up subconsciously to try to tell his parents he was okay. It took him over an hour to come back to full consciousness and he spent a lot of time in a hospital afterwards.
More seizures followed when he started to overload, from the strange absence ones where he made the silly face and thumbs-up, to more serious tonic-clonic ones. It always seemed to follow some kind of electrical surge, which neither his parents or doctors quite understood. The more he grew the less often he had the seizures, as he became more used to the raiju's energy - but the pup also grew, and it tended to be a fine line to balance.
At 15 his parents got a promotion to work overseas, so Denki moved to the US and started school there. While he was still struggling with school, he found himself making friends more easily thanks to his upbeat personality, and enjoyed being the class clown, the party boy and a hopeless flirt. It was thanks to these friends he actually managed to graduate high school - even if just by a hair.
At 21 with no clear path in life, he decided to not even try college (much to the chagrin of his parents) but instead now works in an electronic repair shop a block way from one. (Close enough to still go to frat parties and hang out with a group of friends from the school).
AU Personality Differences: With no dream to become a hero, Denki didn't feel the need to put himself through higher learning when he already suffered through high school with his 'stupidity', as he sees it. This means that he's much less driven than in his canon.
Otherwise he's very much still a ray of energetic sunshine. Older but not wiser.
Purchased Powers: General - 2 Points: Medium Level Regeneration (Helps him to not die from overloading by regenerating burnt neurons.) General - 1 Point: Single Non-Human Feature (Faint tiger stripe pattern around his stomach and back, can be 'explained' as hyper-pigmented blaschko's lines) Possession: Denki is possessed by a raiju and his main contract price is being the raiju's energy storage. This takes a heavy toll on his body and when he has too much stored it can escape in a discharge of electricity - and often causes seizures afterwards thanks to his brain overloading. Interesting quirks also include an inability to sleep on his stomach and being extra energetic and charged up during thunderstorms - which unfortunately also tends to set his discharges off.
