Character Name: Yuri Leclerc (fake name; his real name is strongly speculated to be Regulus) Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Canon History:Three Houses, Yuri
Canon Personality: 🎵 Yuri constantly looks for ways to manipulate people into getting him what he wants or needs. This ranges from money to supplies to connections. Sometimes this means changing his identity to suit his needs. Sometimes it means selling his body or his blade.
🎵 Anyone he considers to be "his" people have his protection for life, unless they betray him. That being said, earning his trust is really difficult.
🎵 Betrayal tends to lead to death, though Byleth is one of the very, very few people who can persuade him not to take that route.
🎵 Yuri hardly ever does anything for himself. Everything he does, no matter how much it bloodies his hands or stains his soul, it's all for the people of Abyss or to send money to his mom.
🎵 The death of his people always hit him hard. He keeps a notebook full of the names of those he's lost over the years so that they're never forgotten.
🎵 He uses his charm and good looks as a tool to get what he wants/needs.
🎵 He very much hates his father for abandoning him and his mom, and he has absolutely zero desire to find out who he is.
🎵 Yuri doesn't really view himself in a positive light. He sees his actions as a sinner to be unforgivable, but he doesn't regret taking those actions when it means the continued survival of Abyss. He'll sacrifice his soul for them if he has to.
🎵 There's a major implication in his support conversation with Dorothea that he'd been sexually assaulted at least once by a noble because his talent for singing was "good enough" for the noble's fantasy of being with Dorothea. He tells her bitterly that the incident made him feel "filthy and unlovable." As a result, Yuri only ever sings for children and never anyone else.
🎵 Did I mention he's threatened and followed through with murder to anyone who jeopardizes the health and safety of his people? Because he's done that even to Byleth. Though just the once.
AU History: Regulus was raised by a single mom who had divorced her husband before he was born. His father had no interest in ever meeting his son, but he did at least pay for most of the childcare costs. Still, the family lived paycheck to paycheck and his mom barely made enough to make ends meet. When he was in elementary school, Regulus started showing signs that he'd inherited an affinity for magic. His mom was never sure which side of the family he'd inherited it from, and Regulus had no interest in finding out. He had it and he had to train himself in how to actively use his invisibility, since at the time he went invisible whenever he was scared. That was all that mattered.
When he reached high school age, he started working part-time to help bring in a bit more income to help his mom out. Regulus also became more interested in his drama and chorus classes. He showed potential, and his teachers encouraged him to shoot for careers that'd let him use his talent for acting and/or singing. Regulus took that advice to heart. After graduating high school with enough scholarships under his belt to fully pay for college, and with a hard-earned acceptance letter from Juilliard, Regulus started taking classes the following fall. It meant only seeing his mom during the holidays, but she was proud of him and told him not to worry about her.
Regulus took on a stage name around this time and went by Yuri Leclerc. He didn't want the general public to know his real name and bother his mom. This became especially true when Yuri started making a name for himself in Broadway. By the time he'd graduated Juilliard at 22, he'd landed a major role in a Broadway musical, and it jumpstarted his career. The money he made went toward his necessities, savings, and his mom primarily, with only a little leftover for himself.
Yuri was 25 when he had to quit Broadway, even if it was only temporary. He'd been stalked by a "fan" for a couple of months, and then it'd turned violent. Yuri was left bleeding out to death in an alley, which might have been where his story completely ended had it not been for a spirit answering his prayer to continue living. A wolf spirit. He agreed to form a pact with it, and the wolf saved his life. While recovering in a hospital, Yuri pressed charges against the man, but his stalker/attempted-murderer got away with only five years in prison for felony assault of the first degree. Apparently, the fact that Yuri was able to heal so quickly meant that it wasn't serious enough to put that man away for longer. There was one thing that felt good and it was that his would-be murderer had to pay for his hospital costs.
After that incident, he decided to "take a break" and switched career paths. Yuri looked for work outside of New York to get far away from his stalker, since he wasn't sure what the man would do to him after being released from prison. As it turned out, the drama teacher at a high school in Kaisou had quit in the middle of the school year. Yuri applied, scored an interview, and was offered a position as the new drama teacher, which he happily accepted. He informed his mom and used some of his savings to pay for the move out to the Midwest.
That first year was a bit rough, but he survived and found he liked teaching these rambunctious kids. Things just got weirder when his first full year as the drama teacher started with a mysterious app installing itself on his phone.
AU Personality Differences: 🐦 It's easier to earn his trust, though he does maintain a healthy distrust of strangers at first.
🐦 Even after the incident with his stalker, he's still willing to sing for fun with friends and family.
🐦 He doesn't go anywhere near as hard into manipulating people as his past self had to. Yuri certainly has the capacity to do so, but he's never had a reason to in this life.
🐦 Though he still has moral greyness and a relatively low opinion of himself (especially for a Broadway personality), Yuri doesn't have the complicated guilt his past self has.
Element: Shadow Purchased Powers: Invisibility (5 minutes, 2 points) and slightly better night vision (1 point) Possession: The spirit of a wolf has possessed Yuri. In exchange for its power, whenever he sees a raven, he must actively try to befriend it and protect it from harm by any means.
