OLD PAGE. GO TO THE CURRENT APP PAGE HERE

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on Sundays.

To join the game, the only big thing is you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. Just be sure to list their name and have the person confirm that they did invite you either by contacting the mods directly or commenting to your app. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two Sundays of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. The only times I'll ask for revisions is if there needs to be a fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player cap?
There is a player cap! Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

PLAYER SLOTS: 46/75 filled.

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is a player cap of 25 OU players.

OU PLAYER SLOTS: 24/35 filled.

At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open whether it be through drops, or adding extra slots. But to keep from one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is a OU cast cap of 6 characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

Casts near Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 6/6, OUS CAPPED

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a new character).

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
You have three options for characters!
  • Normal Modern AU: These characters have lived normal lives in a modern Earth setting, completely oblivious to anything strange up until their entry into the game. Anything in their backstory should be events that could reasonably happen in the real world. Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick one free regain (canon regain or an elemental power) worth up to 3 points that will come into effect after they join the game.

  • Paranormal Modern AU: These are characters who have grown up in a modern Earth setting, but throughout their lives have experienced supernatural occurrences. These characters will get 3 extra points when they app to use for powers that the acquired at some point in their lives (if they so choose). Characters are also allowed to be apped as possessed status. Please refer to the FAQ for more information on that!

  • Original Universe Characters: Characters who hail from their original world and find themselves waking up in this world. These characters will not lose any memories, and are allowed to have any items that would reasonably be on their person when they arrive. They are allowed to retain one ability that's been weakened to beginner levels, otherwise they've been completely depowered.

Character Name: Tabia
Canon: Original
Canon Point: After the defeat of Desolation
History:
In Ancient Egypt, in the early years of the New Kingdom, there was a wicked pharaoh. His subjects suffered in squalor and desolation while he exalted in ego and opulence. He was so hated that, after his death, his name was stricken from all records and his tomb was defaced, leading him to wander the world as a nameless phantom for centuries. When the nameless pharaoh finally remembered who he was, he was driven mad with rage at his lost legacy.

In this state, he was found by a pair of evil denizens of Duat, named Drought and Famine. They offered him power and their loyalty, and then served him as his loyal underlings. In order to give him the dark power he needed to return to life and exact his revenge on Egypt, Famine and Drought began binding restless spirits to objects and creatures in the world of the living, turning them into monsters that fed on human suffering.

Fortunately, this evil deed was not ignored by the greater powers of the universe! The god Heka sent a familiar - a talking cat named Nedjem - into the world of humans, where he set out to find humans with brave, compassionate hearts, and granted unto them the power to stand against the nameless pharaoh and his evil minions. That was when he met Tabia.

Tabia was born into moderate comfort in the city of Hermopolis. Her father, a scribe, imparted in her a love of reading and writing and a fascination with ideas of truth and wisdom. Her mother imparted in her a strong sense of justice and fairness. As she entered her teens, she began to follow in her father's footsteps, becoming a junior scribe in the service of the cult of Thoth. The ideals she inherited from her parents aligned such that she became a passionate advocate for universal literacy, and the idea of an Egypt where everyone could read became her dream. Even when her teachers frowned on it as a waste of time and resources, Tabia spent many of her free hours teaching basic reading and writing to poor children in her neighborhood.

When found by Nedjem, Tabia accepted his offer and became a warrior of Heka. Along with five other girls from varying backgrounds, they fought against Famine and Despair's monsters, both physically and by drawing out the restless spirits within them and putting them to rest. The two sides continued with this back and forth for some time, but eventually the nameless pharaoh gained enough power to briefly appear in the living world. He was unimaginably powerful, and only with all of their combined power were they able to just barely fend him off until he had to depart again.

Following their first battle with the nameless pharaoh, Tabia went to work. She knew that they couldn't win as they were, but she also heard him talk enough to get some clues about his origin. For three days she buried herself in the library and the temple's writings, barely sleeping as she poured over her research. When she emerged, exhausted, she had figured out the nameless pharaoh's identity. Following a group expedition out to a buried ruin site, they found the key to unraveling the pharaoh's power: His name.

Not long after, the pharaoh began his final assault on Egypt. The maidens of Heka rose to stop him, defeating Famine and Drought before using the pharaoh's name to gain power over him, making victory possible. However, when he was defeated, Famine and Drought revealed their true colors. All of the evil schemes the mad pharaoh thought he came up with, Famine and Drought had put in his head. The two demons returned to their original fused form as Desolation, a force of pure evil from the deepest pits of Duat. Desolation wished only to destroy the Nile, bringing ruin and annihilation to Egypt, then rule over a glorious, empty kingdom. The final battle between good and evil began, with all of Egypt as the stakes...

What? Who won? The maidens of Heka, obviously. The power of kindness, courage, and ma'at is far greater than the nihilist power of evil and despair. What kind of story would this be otherwise?

Personality:
  • Tabia's a nerd, raised by nerds. Her greatest passion is knowledge, and the distribution thereof. She dreams day and night about spreading the wonderful world of literacy to one and all.
  • Despite that, she's an extrovert! Having knowledge is boring, sharing it is the true shape of joy. So, she makes friends easily, as long as they'll put up with her rambling.
  • Her mother raised her with a strong sense of justice. She urgently needs the world to be fair, which means that people who do good are rewarded, and people who do bad are punished, both in proportion to their actions. This is where she got the notion of universal literacy: Writing and reading are good, and it's unfair if only some people have access to them.
  • This also applies to the not uncommon experience of officials trying to get her to help them cheat on their taxes, and other such government corruption. No matter how small of an injustice is asked of her, she makes a huge scene, stubbornly refusing to budge until her boss has to get involved.
  • Tabia's relationship with her position as a scribe is a religious one. Writing is literally a divine, magical action, which has power over the world. Writing down a name is magic that extends someone's power into the future beyond their death, and striking out a name can affect them in the next world. She believes adamantly that the world is full of magic, and everything we do in it carries that magic. There is no difference between the natural and the supernatural.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Three days after the defeat of Desolation.
Items: The clothes on her back and a (formerly) magical amulet bearing a symbol of Heka.
Retained Ability: Kemetic Magic. She can perform simple spells using things like herbs, incantations, and rituals, to do things like ward off disease or bring good fortune to someone. These spells are quite weak, to the point that it's plausible that their effects are just a coincidence, but some small effect really is happening.

Character Name: Asriel Dreemurr
Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: At the end of the Pacifist Route, before changing back into Flowey.
History: https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Asriel_Dreemurr
https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Flowey
Big Undertale spoilers in the links – if anyone is still cautious of those.

Personality:CARING: Asriel was not only raised by two extremely loving parents, but seems to have the same empathetic and caring nature that Asgore and Toriel have. This shows especially when he comes to the first fallen human's rescue. Despite the fact that humans had once sealed monsters underground, Asriel doesn't seem to hesitate to help the child when they fall into the ruins. Monsters in Undertale are also quite literally made of empathy and love. It resonates through their SOUL. This caring nature also leads to him being rather sensitive. He's called a crybaby in a few points during Undertale's canon.

IMPRESSIONABLE: Asriel seems deeply influenced by those around him – perhaps even moreso than other children are. He takes after Asgore via his way of speaking with a Southern dialect. This also shows especially after death when he seems to copy some of his best friend's mannerisms – whether it be through their “creepy smiles” or the mischief that the both of them seemed to get into together. The fact that they're easily influenced by others is also what leads them to get caught up in things where they can be in over their head. This is seen mostly when it comes to the plan to free monsters in the underground, even if it meant that Chara would sacrifice themselves for it.

LOVING: This loving nature is both a positive and negative aspect of Asriel's character. It's his loving nature that can lead him to helping others – doing what he can to make others happy and in his words “give them a happy ending,” however – Asriel loves others to what may be an unhealthy degree. The desperation and need to see Chara again is what leads Asriel to want to force Frisk to kill others and ultimately change them into a person who would be more like their sibling It gets to the point where they use and perhaps even see Frisk as a replacement for Chara. When Asriel loves, he loves hard. He states how he loves and cares for Chara more than anything else. When he changed into Flowey, he worked to give others a happy ending in what might be seen as a desperate attempt to feel the love that he lost.

CYNICAL: Despite having been saved by Frisk, Asriel still deeply carries a cynical view of the world. Despite no longer believing in the philosophy kill-or-be-killed, Asriel is well aware that there are many dangerous people in the world. He knows that his best friend's plan was not something he should have completely had faith in, and that they weren't the “best person.” Perhaps this is due to the fact that Asriel ended up influenced by Frisk, just as he had Chara. However, as Flowey – it seemed as though Asriel truly believed that things such as love and faith in others were worthless things. While Asriel has remembered what it is like to love and care for others, this doesn't change their previous way of believing.

COWARDLY: Despite being willing to kill others time and time again, Asriel is also the kind of person to run away the moment that his own life is in danger. He seems to want to desperately cling to things that he's familiar with or what he wants to keep control of. The want and need to have “God-like” powers was more of a way for Flowey to remain in control of the power of DETERMINATION. In the no-mercy run, he also changes his mind and decides the path that Frisk takes is ultimately a bad idea only when his own life is in danger.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: New arrival
Items: A heart-shaped locket that says “best friends forever”.

Character Name: Hol Horse
Canon: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon History: Right here, wikia's got me

Canon Personality: -Seriously acts like your stereotypical gunslinger because it's Araki
-On the surface when things are okay he seems pretty confident and smooth talking, especially with women when he knows he can get something out of them
-Actually a coward the second things get tough
-Oddly enough he is aware of when he is at a disadvantage, but usually acts a fool and pretends it's fine until it's clearly not fine and flees
-That confidence? Yeah, he's good at convincing himself that he has an advantage until he doesn't.
-First reaction to anything that bothers him is FIGHT, which I mean he's from JoJo's, the sky is blue and water is wet
-Has some weird kind of pride???? Both in himself when he thinks he has the upper hand and also that he'll do a lot of shady garbage but his line is harming a woman
-Even though he's a garbage can that will openly seduce a woman to make use of them later
-Hilariously greedy. And by hilariously I mean this man thought he could steal from a basically immortal vampire. He was wrong.

AU History: Basically your normal childhood up until he hits about teenagehood and starts working for the Fort Worth Stockyards as your stereotypical gunslinger and cowboy type for the tourists. This is how he learns to shoot. It's a problem. It's also Texas and you can open carry a gun in Texas.

But he starts having more encounters with the paranormal, usually of the ghostly variety, this is particularly annoying for him when he's trying to go home on long days because, uh, surprise, there's A Lot Of Ghosts Probably at a place that had tons of people moving through it since the days of the Wild West.

Idiot mcgee no-sells ghosts all the time and eventually figures out that he can make a potential second income and later primary income off of being a no-selling cowboy gunslinging ghost hunter. You know, from being a teenager into now An Adult Man Probably In His Twenties (he has no canon age, I'm guessing).

This is a disgusting success and he eventually starts travelling with a small team to do this ridiculous YouTube show and loses his Actually Normal Southerner personality to Stereotype Cowboy, it's a little sad, actually.

But hey, there's tale of shenanigans going down in Kaisou, sounds like a great spot to relocate for a bit.

AU Personality Differences: There's not much, to be perfectly honest with you. Other than the fact he really no-sells the paranormal and doesn't find them a threat in the slightest.

Element: Liiiiiight
Purchased Powers: Bless weapons to have medium level holy power (7 hits) :]

Character Name: The Shadow Lurking Behind You
Canon: OC
Canon History:
On an alternate Earth an extremely long time ago before even the dinosaurs, there was two powerful occult civilizations, the sea civilization (think jellyfish people) and the land civilization (think particularly adventurous horseshoe-crab-like people who decided to try out the whole air breathing thing). While they might have lacked the limbs to wield tools, practicing magic back then was absolutely simple, and anyone could reweave reality and even venture into other realms of reality such as the Dream Realm. One of the nightmare beings haunting those civilizations in dreams was The Shadow Lurking Behind You, an representations of the terror of ambush predators.

But Shadow developed an absolute fascination with those civilizations' art and while she would still terrorize people with nightmares of surprising predators much of that was more to help keep those dreamers alert and thus alive. She indulged her curiosity, learning a great deal about art, the occult, and people. Then the two civilizations had the lovely idea to destroy each other in magical wars so reality-shattering that all trace or memory of those civilizations disappears, leaving the only faintest memories in the survivors that there used to be a land civilization and a sea civilization.

As a result, Shadow bummed around in the Dream Realm until the rise of the dinosaur people. She loved this civilization, too, participating heavily in its art culture. But a particularly disgruntled dinosaur person ascended to a higher state of being and used that power to destroy the dinosaur civilization too. That angered Shadow so much she somewhat managed to figure out how to assassinate said ascended being with a bomb made out of millions of volunteering pissed off dinosaur ghosts.

It was at this point that one of the major facets of reality itself, Weave the raw force of stability and order, started cracking down because of this and other major reality upheavals across the universe, creating a stable set of physics that would not be easily altered by magic. And agencies empowered by Weave started popping up across the universe, dedicated to prevent occult people from majorly fucking things up again.

By the time humans rolled around, reality was pretty stable. Sure, there were secret occult societies around and there were even more weird rumors of strange stuff than in our real world, but overall the everyday experience of a human wasn't that different from our world.

Shadow was content lurking in dreams and popping out to pretend to be a normal human and participate in society, particularly society's art. As such, she has pretty much been just low background noise throughout human history, her main fame being in the occult art culture. A few of her alias that she used in various art movements are particularly famous. Other than that she mostly wasn't a major history maker, though she did help bail many people out of terrible circumstances like slavery and genocides.

Then the Weave-empowered agencies managed to ascend a triad that would act as guardians of reality to disallow any excessive damage to reality. This resulted in the end of those agencies' missions to suppress magic and the unveiling of magic to the public. Shortly after, a man she had been mentoring (while trolling) would ascend to become known as the Great Knower, freely providing occult knowledge to anyone interested.

Shadow was happy to no longer need to pretend to be human but overall things didn't change much for her other than being able to publicly use magic and reveal her nonhuman nature. She simply continued carrying on doing art and messing with people, just more openly.

Canon Personality:
As someone who has lived through two magical apocalypses and lost countless loved ones throughout the ages, Shadow nevertheless remains able to maintain her passions and is generally friendly if rather willing to troll people. Fundamentally she has a stubborn love for life that's helped her live that long. That isn't to say that the many losses she's experiences don't sting and she has moments where she gets sentimental and sad but such moments never last long. She continues to enjoy her nature as a nightmare being, taking pleasure in scaring people, though she's updated her nightmares to reflect somewhat more modern fears. She has a sometimes strange sense of humor, like sneaking into a friend's apartment and leaving a huge hunk of delicious mammoth meat in their fridge... while stealing their yogurt (hey, it's pretty good yogurt). And she has an undying general curiosity and a passion for art.

AU History:
As a child, Tyra Davis developed a rapid love for art that has stayed with her for her whole life. She was always doodling and sketching, sometimes at the detriment of her grades though her love for learning helped her maintain acceptable grades. One thing she learned was to shut up about the things she could see, though eventually she started making the occasional joke about seeing the invisible.

After graduating she went first to art school then decided to get a teaching degree so she could instill her love of art into students. She was able to get a job as an art teacher at one of the local schools, where she's been working since.

In art school, she met a guy, George, who could see the same things as her. She got along rather well with him, to the point where she ended up marrying him. They had a happy enough marriage complete with a child, Amari. But then George poked too deeply into the supernatural and his corpse was found in a reservoir, unnaturally aged.

She continued to poke into magic, but more cautiously than her deceased husband. As a result, she was able to acquire a shadowy serpent as a magical companion. This proved surprisingly popular with Amari, who would regularly play with said serpent.

Her second and third marriages had less traumatic endings, being basically amicable divorces and she's still on good terms with her ex-wife and surviving ex-husband. Still, this left her less willing to rush into marriage, if nothing else for the sake of Amari who is now in high school.

Nowadays she continues to work as an art teacher and artist while keeping in loose touch with the magical community. Her nonbinary child is doing well in school, aside from the occasional bulllying which Tyra resolved by having her shadow snake accompany them to school to scare said bullies until they stopped. Said snake's ability to hide in shadows largely prevented discovery even by those who could see magical things and the one kid who managed to discover it thought it was a cool idea.

And then Tyra got a weird app on her phone.

AU Personality Differences:
The biggest difference is that Tyra hasn't experienced the sheer weight of history that Shadow has. She doesn't have nearly as many experienced tragedies, making her less prone to the occasional melancholy moment, though she does get sad when she thinks of her deceased husband. She also doesn't have the innate desire to scare people, even if she continues to be a huge troll.

Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: A medium-sized shadow spirit companion, a pitch black snake that can hide in shadows. 3 points.

Character Name: Ka Ninja (AU Name will be 'Kathleen Avery')
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal (Fanfic AU)
Canon History: Canon Ka's wiki is located here, but the page focuses on canon events as shown on screen. Additionally, while the character in canon is portrayed as a man, the AU character is portrayed as cis-female. For the AU, only as far as Ka envenomating Kaito occurs before things change. As well, I will be filling the blanks of her pre-debut history below.

Ka Ninja, however she came into her circumstances, was a thief. Part of a professional set up, she would take jobs as the tech help; safely handling such things as security, navigation, and even news updates from afar in a group of typically four people. After a time, these jobs often rang with the same group- leading them to gain the nickname 'the Fearsome Four'; a group typically consisting of the conman 'Heartland', the muscle 'Semimaru', and the driver, 'Kurage'.

And one night something went wrong. Heartland went dark- Semimaru died on the scene. Kurage meanwhile barely got out on her advice in his car with the goods- only to lose his life in a crash. Ka herself would later be tracked down, and arrested- an incident she was easily able to connect to Heartland....who had gotten away with everything and more.

Ka didn't die as quick as the others. Instead she succumbed to beating, and other poor conditions attributed to police brutality in the prison. She would incarnate in the Barian realm, found in the 'Ashlands' by a Barian named 'Bun', who would help her to adjust.

In the Barian world, Ka began to set roots quickly once recovered. Soon enough she was handling solo heists and jobs for her and Bun's gain, living quietly...or as quietly as a thief does.

And then Heartland, Barian but disguised, appeared before her with a proposition. While wary, she knew he would make life intolerable if she refused- thus, at his prompting, she reunited with the other Fearsome Four, now all of the Barian realm, for instructions.

Each were to target a child, in order to steal a collection of cards known as numbers- and were granted power and cards to do so. While it seemed a joke, Heartland assured them of otherwise, introducing them to his employer- Barian Lord Vector- in the process. Each moved independently, and as Ka gathered information and laid in wait, she watched as Semimaru and Kurage seemingly died through mere cardgames....this time permanently.

Even so the idea seemed laughably simple- stop Yuuma, the target, from vanishing to the Astral realm, enemy of the Barian realm, and take her 'numbers' cards. Sensing the chances of facing an ally of Yuuma's, Ka does her research and moves to sabotage an already ill ally by injecting them with toxin as a mosquito....narrowly avoiding being squashed.

Deciding the target's protections too perceptive, she thus chose a different approach- sabotaging the gate Yuuma used, and ambushing the child between realms...stealing the cards and leaving the target for dead. Ka would present the cards to an alarmed Vector, sensing that going to Heartland would mean more work- taking her prize in return for a loss of power, she wisely fled from there.

But Yuuma had lived, and Bun had even recovered them. Worse, when Bun felt the child threatened she placed an oath on her- if harm came to Yuuma, it would come to Ka. While the oath only covered harm from Ka's own hand, after Yuuma fled to try and escape the barian realm, Ka could not be sure- panicked, she would chase after and find herself stuck joining the child, and a villager from a settlement they came upon, in the search for Yuuma's freedom.

The journey would be long, and scattered with newfound allies and perils- particulary with Yuuma's cheerful, friendly, and headstrong nature. After failing to find their best option out of the realm in the Red Lands, the journey would only grow longer, joined with a new ally in the form of 'Koushi'- a newly fledged barian, and actually Kaito, who had succumbed to his illness.

While Ka grew attached to Yuuma, she also started to realize just how deep matters of the world ran- strange and mystical conspiracies rooted in gods, the land, and the 'Lords' overseeing them- or even influencing them with their existence.

The fanfic itself is not yet complete, though the end of the journey is planned. For the sake of keeping a reference available at all times, memories regained will only pertain to published chapters- the fic with that in mind is here, but fairly long, hence the summary above.

As of the latest chapter, Ka's trek has moved from the Ashlands, to Goldlands, through it via sand ship, to the Redlands by train, Pinelands via connecting city-tunnel, and then after a breakneck chase from a tower there, continued on into the acid rain filled grasslands of 'Slate'.

Canon Personality:
- Clever, tricky; Ka thinks quick on her feet, and tends to come up with a solid plan on the fly. When she's thrown off, it's because the situation has changed dramatically on the spot. She is also skilled in bartering, knowing when best to quit before ahead.
- Self-preserving; in nearly all situations, Ka's first thought is 'what keeps me alive', to the point of this line of thinking causing the au in the first place.
- Selfish, Smug...Hypocrotical; Ka thinks for herself first, and prides herself on her ability to keep afloat and ahead, mocking those who seek grander and larger things. All the same, she isn't above resorting to flashy methods when pressed- nor will she ultimately avoid 'dueling' after all her talk on how useless cards as a solution are. Heck, she even grandstands whenever she really thinks she's won- for someone keeping it small, she has the manner of someone in theatre sometimes. On a more amusing point of hypocrisy however...
- Kind of a freaking Tsundere; Ka spends a Lot of time ribbing on Yuuma for being so nice and open, and on others for doing similar. Her trust in Bun is one of family, the other Barian having looked after her to begin with. The fact is however, her progress through the story softens that heart....a lot. And she denies it. A lot. Good job Ka.
- Expressive; boy, is she! For someone made of rocks she makes impressive faces, and when she's thrown off can get some sharp words out there. Actually she can be sharp regardless. And cackly.

AU History: Born to a wealthier family of upper-middleclass bearing, Ka grew up no stranger to the crimes of the Elite. She witnessed two-faced attitudes toward the lower classes, and the violence that those with enough in their pockets could ultimately get away with.

It was enough to instill two ideals in her; one, the side that wished it away. And the other, the side that never wanted to experience it.

Ever.

Ultimately going into Law, 'Kathleen' opened her own firm (admittedly with the advantage of parental support in the form of her now single and happily independent mother), 'KA Legal', focusing primarily on women in need of an 'out' from abusive situations- and those bringing such matters to her. She did well to keep her nose down, and even settled into a casual stretch of life, making small videos on youtube for her hobby of picking locks (with a lengthy disclaimer to absovle her of any responsibility for any making use of the knowledge of course).

And then she encountered a client who lied a little too much about what they were struggling with. While 'Kate' as some knew her closed it all in the client's favor, there were those who did not at all appreciate it.

Returning to her apartment alone, where she lived alone, Kathleen Avery died alone, unknowingly left to die near an incoming rift to the Spirit Realm.

She did not quite die however. A...thing, some spirit, some sort of creature within the realm, reaches out to bargain. A chance to live again, and then some, in return for a 'few favors'. Kate was familiar with the sort of course. These were deals that had no end.

But in her dying thoughts, the consequences did not occur to her, and Ka said 'yes'.

Which brings her to...now. She woke in a hospital with multiple transfusions on her bill keeping her going, a new app on her phone, and a streak of light in the sky. She hates this. This is all too Big.

(There are still people after her, and they're going to find a nasty surprise waiting)

She hates this.

AU Personality Differences: Primarily, Ka- rather Kate- is a little more social.

Only a little.

She'll talk to people, and recognizes that suspicion falls on the one acting like they have something to hide.

In a sense, she is also kinder (one could argue it lines up with where her character in the Fic will eventually fall), as well as more law abiding- while one can hardly call her practice 100% legal anywhere off paper, it's far cry from being the digital expert in a team of thieves.

'Are you saying she is still cackly and has that weird verbal tic, Usagi'

Yes. God yes. Congrats on your lawyer she has all the vibes of a 90s villain and the villains secretary bundled in one now.

Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: A form of limited shapeshifting; while in the spirit realm, she takes this form by default, but in the mundane world it takes a great blood toll.

The form is no larger than herself, Mosquito-like and seemingly made of rock and metal. In this state, she currently lacks actual associated durability and skill; such things will take point purchase. The IC reasoning for this, is 'you just died and woke up! You gotta adjust to that.'

Possession: Demon? Fae? Whatever it was looked like a mechanical beast of a mosquito, and while Ka asked nothing of it, it asks the following of Ka-

First, on a regular basis she has to consume blood to live. Enough to replace what is lost over time; how she acquires it doesn't matter- but if she puts it off, her health deteriorates until she dies. Using her abilities (beyond the default shift when entering a spirit realm) hastens this process.

Second, when a client appears who will require paranormal interference, she will instinctively know and understand a Blood Cost associated with it. This cost must be paid by one person involved, potentially even herself- but in her case, this of course again shortens how much time she has to consume what she herself needs.

Notably, 'any person involved' can include an enemy of the client; though of course, she still has to obtain that blood.

Or else her contract holder will come to collect.

Other Characters: Anastasia Fabre

Character Name: Persephone
Canon: Original
Canon History: Over here!

Canon Personality:
✽ Bright and confident, without a shy bone in her body
✽ Puts up a façade of someone very whimsical and carefree
✽ Actually very shrewd and cunning
✽ Manipulative
✽ Very emotionally distant, despite being so friendly
✽ Reliable and steadfast. Of all the Seasonal Sovereigns, she's the one who best retains her sanity and also helps to ground the others.
✽ Still cares a lot for others, especially the few friends she has
✽ Very patient. Literally plotted to steal the Spring Court throne for decades.
✽ Flirty and charming, both genuinely and also to get what she wants

AU History: Persie, full name Persephone van de Linden, had a relatively normal childhood in the Netherlands. Only relatively normal, as she has been spiritually sensitive since she was very young - able to sense when others were nearby and also pick up on how animals felt. It's something she kept quiet about, especially as her twin sister only teased her about it when they were young; Persephone quickly realizing this was only something she experienced.

But besides these odd abilities, she grew up and got married to her childhood sweetheart when she was around twenty or so, after much on and off during the years. It was a happy, blissful time until she lost her husband in an accident, which also rendered her right eye scarred and blind. Nowadays she tries to style her hair over it, but she wears an eyepatch just to be sure.

So in a bid to get a fresh start and try to distance herself from her grief, she moved to Kaisou where she took up a post as a guidance counsellor at the university. She also does a little crafting on the side for extra money too.

AU Personality Differences: The main difference is that she won't be as emotionally distant nor as manipulative as her canon self, thanks to no longer having centuries of baggage. She has no court to protect and no subjects to watch over, so she's able to be more open with her thoughts and feelings. She's less likely to hide her feelings under a smiley façade, and she won't view people as things to potentially use.

Her grief, while still there, isn't as intense in canon as well and she will be able to still feel like she can bond with others besides those within her inner circle. Now she's very much open to making friends and opening up to others. Beyond that, she's still very flirty, friendly and playful.

Element: Water
Purchased Powers:
Sense presence of others within 30 feet. (1 point)
Can understand what an animal is feeling. (1 point)
Withstand temperatures as cold as 32F (0*C) without a coat. (1 point)

Character Name: Canonly it's Suzi Q. Joestar, but for the AU just Suzi Quatro
Canon: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon History: Here

Canon Personality: - "Slightly" ditzy, which is questionable in and of itself as it seems to come and go with her
- Carefree
- Cares way too much about the people around her, friends, family, whatever
- Honestly she's just a saint considering she married and continued to put up with Joseph's absolute gremlin nonsense including cheating on her which is pure rude
- Despite the above situation, she also has faith in her family for doing both the right thing and being able to protect them all
- Wikia wants to say this is only when she's older, it's a liar. Has actually good intuition on what's going on around here despite the whole "ditzy" bit to her personality
- Just generally a happy person despite all the nonsense she's been through in her life, always positive about even the weirdest situations
- Also has a temper that can show if the situation is bad enough, luckily this has been seen only once in canon so it's hard to get her to that point
- L o o k, she's also kind of a pranking gremlin when she wants to be

AU History: Your normal girl that grew up in Northern Italy, nothing paranormal in the slightest that she was aware of. Well adjusted, happy, all of that normal gross nonsense. She got pretty good grades throughout her school time and ended up after getting out of the required schooling in Italy was accepted into a nursing program in America.

Throughout her time there, she came to love the profession properly despite being continuously burned out from it. All she wanted to do, wants to do, is help people if she's able to. This led to her forming a connection with a doctor that had another friend that had set up a clinic that was... well, to put it bluntly, one that asks no questions and helps anyone that comes to them. Suzi was absolutely intrigued and it sounded like a good fit for her.

That clinic? Ended up being in Kaisou and she moved there as soon as she was legally able to and began working in this clinic. What she wasn't aware of was the paranormal situations the clinic tended to have come through. At least, not until the app decided it wanted to appear.

AU Personality Differences: N/A, she's good.

Other Characters: None

Character Name: Tiera
Canon: OC (Pokemon tabletop)

(cw for both canon and au history: child abandonment)
Canon History: Tiera's world is basically a medieval fantasy world, but with Pokemon. Pokeballs exist, but people also use apricorns to make all sorts of other, such as magical spellbooks with Pokemon on the pages, or tattoos holding Pokemon within. (Tiera herself uses feathers embued with apricorn energies.) The Legendaries are known to exist, and are still considered gods. There are seven kingdoms in the world with their own politics, as well as the Forgotten Kingdom, a former kingdom of artists which was supposedly destroyed by the gods for the crime of hubris. Even now, people descended from that place are often viewed with a combination of fascination and suspicion.

Tiera herself was found abandoned as a baby by a flock of wild Hoothoot and Noctowl, who dwelled in the Emerald Forest, along with a Cyndaquil egg. She and the Cyndaquil, when he hatched, were raised among them, her natural channeling abilities helping her to understand her new family deeply. For a long time, she grew up with them, enjoying her life in the forest, but slowly grew curious about humanity. Eventually, she took her "twin," the Cyndaquil-now-Quilava who had hatched alongside her, as well as her two younger "siblings," a pair of Hoothoot.

Eventually, she came to a village and ended up meeting Jann, a store owner who found her hunting Rattata that were trying to get into his trash. He ended up making her an offer: Continue helping him with pest control, and he would let her live there. She at first saw this as a simple contract like the ones between Pokemon and Trainers, but as time went on would slowly start to see Jann as a father figure, and he would start to see her as a daughter. She would also start helping out in the shop more and more, instead of simply hunting pests.

While not everyone accepted her, things were mostly peaceful until the day Zekrom crashed into their village, killed in a fight with Reshiram, and everything was thrown into chaos. Tiera and Jann escaped, and Jann immediately started making plans to leave, since as someone with strong Forgotten ancestry, he was likely to be viewed with suspicion by the more superstitious people. They ended up forming a loose alliance and traveling in a caravan together, fighting off wild Pokemon who were now becoming more aggressive and a bandit attack before reaching the city of Cordrio.

Canon Personality:
-Loyal: Once someone wins Tiera's affections, they're almost certain to have a friend for life. She will always take them into consideration when making her plans, and will always want to make whatever choice gives the best outcome for all of them. If they are in danger, she is certain to come rushing to the rescue. She would, in fact, burn down the world for the people she loves. For now, this mostly applies to her family/flock, who are the most important people in her life. While she's willing to make and honor temporary alliances, if push comes to shove, she will abandon them for her family unless they've won her over some other way.
-Focused: Tiera takes her responsibilities seriously. While she was helping Jann in the shop, she would pretty much never be distracted. She's also quite the good lookout when she needs to be.
-Smarter than she looks: Despite her simple vocabulary, Tiera knows much more than her vocabulary can convey. She's actually fairly good at doing addition and subtraction fast, due to working in Jann's shop, and also has very neat handwriting from helping write labels and signs for the shop. She's also good at reading people as well, and knows a lot about the wilderness and surviving within.
-Curious: Tiera is always eager to learn more about the world and everything that happens in it. The differences between human and flock culture are fascinating enough to her, even if she doesn't always fully understand all of it.
-Leaderly: Tiera is considered the leader of her smaller flock, and she takes that seriously. She's fairly good at planning group tactics, and considering the larger picture of the whole battlefield. As long as she knows their abilities, she will likely be able to figure out how to best put them to use. However, this also means she tends to try and claim the position of leader when in a group, and rarely defers to others by default-she usually needs some kind of show of strength/competition to be willing to do so.
-Feral-minded: Tiera still has a bit of a hunter's mindset, which Jann never fully trained out of her. Instead, he taught her to obey the laws of civilization within the bounds of civilization. Thus, outside of that she has a tendency to jump towards violence as a first solution. She keeps many small birdlike quirks that aren't particularly troublesome to deal with. She also still struggles to interact properly with humans at times when not following the script of serving a customer.
-Musical: Tiera strongly enjoys singing, at least partially because she can channel various abilities through it.

AU History:
-Was slightly older when she was abandoned in a forest
-Raised by some unusually intelligent owls, along with several friendly wind spirits, leading her to have a very strong connection with the supernatural from birth
-Eventually wandered into a nearby town with her two "sibling" owls, where she ended up being found by Jann and bonding with him after a while of being skittish
-After Jann got her to come with him to a Department of Child Services, he eventually ended up officially adopting her and enrolling her in school
-He's still a shopkeeper and she helps out occasionally, but not really as a full employee
-Jann and her moved to Kaisou a couple years ago because of a natural disaster back home, Jann has old friends here who helped them get settled

AU Personality Differences:
-More socialized around humans and less feral-minded due to having attended school, although she's still considered mostly the "outcast" and "weird kid"
-As a consequence of the above, also less likely to abandon temporary alliances and less willing to burn down the world for love
-More willing to defer to others without a fight and less focused on being the leader in every situation
-Actually more nonverbal, due to having assistive technology for communication

Element: Wind
Purchased Powers:
-Full animal communication (birds only, works best with owls and other birds of prey)

Other Characters: The Shadow Lurking Behind You

Character Name: Momo (Nina Quatro in the AU)
Canon: OC
Canon History:
- Imagine a whimsical setting with candy cotton sinkholes, meat forests, and the like. In that world, the Evillands were areas full of evil energy to the point where it could corrupt the inhabitants, for example turning dog into hellhounds.
- An experimental to create a pacified hellhound accidentally created a powerful hellhound/human hybrid called Momo who combined the worst impulses of hellhounds and humans.
- Momo proceeded to take over every hellhound pack in sight, mustering a huge army that she led to terrorize the world.
- Many towns and cities fell to her army and their inhabitants became dog food.
- However, an anti-Momo alliance formed and after an exhausting war, finally managed to kill her by hounding her into a candy cotton swamp where she fell victim to a trap and drowned in candy cotton.

Canon Personality:
- Super sadistic
- Prone to flying into fits of rage if something goes wrong, often resulting in someone's death
- Gluttonous and has a sweet tooth
- No remorse and little empathy
- Loves praise and positive attention and will force people to give her those
- Extremely loyal to the few that she cares about
- Actually rather smart when she isn't giving in to one of her impulses

AU History:
- Born to an Italian family including Suzi Quatro as a sister, Nina turned out to have sadistic tendencies as a child. She ended up hurting another child enough for them to be sent to a hospital (nothing serious, just a few stitches). That resulted in her parents putting her into therapy.
- Nina grew up seemingly more well-adjusted after that. But really that was more her deciding to pretend to be nice because it made people like her more. Also not wanting to upset her pack beloved family.
- A big thing was her telling her parents she was a girl. Nowadays she's on HRT. Treats LBGTQ folks as sorta a loosely affiliated pack.
- After Suzi decided to stay in America, Nina and Suzi's parents decided to move to America to be closer to their oldest daughter, and Nina went with them.
- Working hard, Nina became one of the popular girls in school--good at academics, sports, pretty, and likable. Also a model and even acting in a few local ads. All this to get praise. At home she'd relax with some gory media including violent video games.
- She asked out another popular girl and got shot down. She's still trying to get a girlfriend to this day.

AU Personality Differences:
The biggest difference between Momo and Nina is that Nina is actually trying to manage her worse impulses. Like, all those traits are still there, but actual consequences for hurting another child and the resulting therapy, as well as her loyalty making her want to make her pack family happy, resulted in her concluding that it was better to get along with society and play by its rules. Instead of indulging her worst desires she uses video games as a vent for her sadistic desires and seeks to garner positive attention by performing actions that others will find praiseworthy, such as getting as good grades as she can, being nice to people, and doing volunteer work for charities.

This isn't exactly a perfect facade, though. Occasionally a crack in the mask shows. Also she thinks she's clever for figuring out the basic social construct.

Other Characters: Rean, Ris

Character Name: Emma Millstein
Canon: Trails of Cold Steel, 15 Strangers Round 4/6 CRAU
Canon History: Here, up through the Trails of Cold Steel II section.

As for the CRAU portion: Post-CS1, Emma got isekai'd to a magical murder castle. She had to deal with a lot of guilt about Rean getting yeeted away on Valimar AND had to watch her new friends die, so that was Great™ for her psyche. Then, during week 4, she was accused of murdering her little brother figure, a crime she didn't commit. She even got voted guilty, and was about to be executed for it except that something stepped in at the last minute to save her. Unfortunately, two days later she got her soul ripped out and died anyway, despite a seriously awesome fight scene full of Peter Man metaphor. RIP. No one from her group was revived at the end of her round.

Arthur Charles, one of her friends and confidants (and crushes) in the murder castle, got re-isekaied later on. He proceeded to not die long enough to help destroy the Big Bad, partially by declaring his love for her, which she got to witness from the afterlife. She somehow managed to not double-die of sheer embarrassment and feelings, and thanks to the Power of Love, got brought back to life.

She and Arthur decided to strike up a relationship, but first they both needed to go back to their home universes to deal with everything being on (somewhat literal, somewhat metaphorical) fire. They agreed to meet again someday and adventure together, though.

Unfortunately, Emma went back home and then CS2 happened, so that's Great™. That's where I'm calling her canon point for now!

Canon Personality:
  • Quiet, kind of shy

  • Hates being in the spotlight

  • Studious and hardworking

  • Caring

  • A bit of a worrywart

  • Very critical of herself and quick to blame herself if things go wrong

  • Absolutely terrible at subtlety and keeping secrets

AU History: Emma's family has always been a little... well... weird. For as long as she can remember, her family has dabbled in magic— potions and medicines, spells, reading the future... and honestly, all of the members have an affinity for animals such that they may as well have animal familiars, even if they can't strictly communicate. Emma's not really sure what they are, and her grandmother— the family matriarch— has never really bothered to give a name. Or any explanation, really. She seems to be kind of allergic to those.

Emma lost her mother when she was young (and her father has never been in the picture— Emma hasn't the slightest who he is or might be), so she and her elder sister were raised by their grandmother. Her grandmother did want her to experience the world outside their little corner of it, so Emma has always attended public school, although she never really got close with many people. She was widely ostracized for being strange, because despite having it drilled into her that magic was to strictly remain a secret, little bits of her family heritage always slipped through the cracks.

Her sister has since left the family to pursue her own dreams. Her grandmother is running a scam fortune-telling business (while knowing full well it's all a scam, of course— she could do a real reading, but hey, the customers want the ~drama~!). And Emma herself is now 16, in high school, and while she's still not doing great socially, she's at least on the fast track to becoming the class valedictorian.

AU Personality Differences: Not really that much to note!

Element: Wind
Purchased Powers:
  • Can understand what an animal is feeling (1 point, general)

  • Low level healing (1 point, general)

  • Low power boost to existing power (1 point, elemental)

  • But has severe anxiety
  • Like constantly nervous even if he prefers not to show it
  • Also not above bitching about life
  • Can be pretty brutal in his roasts.

His dad wanted him to be a soldier like him, but he took after his mother's love of music. His mother died of illness when he was about 9, leaving his older sister to raise him since his dad was pretty busy with his career. Tensions in the household simmered until finally Elliot more or less left home via enrolling at college at Kaisou and barely calling home. He majored in music and is currently trying to finish college while also trying to make ends meet by being a music teacher and hopefully find time to for a music career

Canon: Etrian Odyssey Untold, with 15 Strangers CRAU
Canon History: I mean I have a wiki but it's kind of shitty and he's CRAU anyway so here we go, I'll try to be brief.

He presumably had a normal babyhood and young childhood, no one will ever know. And then his town, a mining town at the foot of one of the giant trees known as Yggdrasil, got leveled in an "unprecedented disaster", of which he was one of only two survivors. The other survivor, Simon, managed to rescue him and take him away to the Midgard Library, where Arthur grew up happy and healthy and goofy, and eventually became one of the Library's investigators. He, along with Simon and a Canadian noble named Raquna, got sent to investigate a mysterious ruin called Gladsheim, near another Yggdrasil town called Etria, which had recently been making weird noises and earthquakes. There, they discovered a Highlander whom Etria's government had called to do the same. Within the ruin, they found a pod that released a girl named Frederica, who had no memories but knew she needed to go deeper.

The five of them band together to register as an Exploration Guild, in order to gain access to the Labyrinth underneath Yggdrasil. The main purpose was to reach the Geomagnetic Poles scattered through it, which they could then use to access deeper areas of Gladsheim and uncover the ruin's mysteries. Before too long Frederica remembers her life, including that she's from the Old World - Earth 1000 years before. She and an AI known as M.I.K.E. were placed in cold sleep/dormancy to activate Gungnir, a weapon that would kill the Yggdrasil Core. That is a massive, questionably sentient monster made of pollution, because in Frederica's time Earth suffered a total ecological collapse due to extreme pollution and the Yggdrasil trees were planted in a last ditch effort to save the Earth by absorbing it all. But after a thousand years, the Yggdrasil Core would form and rise and break free, and roam across the land spreading "unprecedented blight". Yuff I am so sorry I am trying to make this short but you understand how it is with JRPGs and their terminology right--

Anyway. They have to activate Gungnir via a series of terminals, reachable one at a time by separate Geomagnetic Poles. This gives the team a lot of motivation and purpose in exploring the Labyrinth, but local leader Visil is acting increasingly weird. They get deeper into the Labyrinth than anyone has in a long time and discover the Forest Folk, who are not especially happy about being discovered and claim they made a deal that the surface folk would leave them alone. Visil says this is bullshit and orders the party to commit genocide upon them. The party is understandably not okay with this! The one member of the Forest Folk they speak to does reveal to them that recently her people have been suffering a mysterious, incurable illness that makes them go berserk and act no better than monsters. The party decides to ask M.I.K.E., who informs them that this is a result of proximity to the Yggdrasil Core and a sign they need to hurry, and also that there is nothing they can do.

Nobody is fine with this course of events but they press on and just get through the area populated by the Forest Folk. The one who speaks to them tries and fails to stop the team, but instead of killing her they bring her back to town for treatment. She is finally convinced that, at the very least, the party believes they're doing what they say they are. And then the party reaches the ruins of Tokyo, specifically Shinjuku, deep underneath Yggdrasil. Here, the Geomagnetic Pole takes them to the last terminal necessary to activate Gungnir, and Frederica drops a disturbing truth: Gungnir will destroy the Yggdrasil Core, and wipe out Etria and all of the surrounding area right along with it. It's the same exact disaster that befell Arthur's hometown.

The guild is understandably upset, and extremely not okay with this. They decide hm, maybe let's see if we can just fight this thing normally instead of with a fantasy nuke. M.I.K.E. is very aggressively insistent that no, fantasy nuke is the only way, clearly he must correct Frederica's brain and kill the others, so he turns one of Gladsheim's weapons on the guild. They manage to destroy it and escape. They continue onward through the Labyrinth, and are attacked by Ren and Tlachtga - other explorers who had previously been the guild's friends. Visil sent them, and there's implications he ordered other guilds to attack the party, too. The party does not kill the pair, and treks on.

They find Visil at the bottom of the area. Turns out he was the leader on the Yggdrasil Project a thousand years before that planted the trees in the first place, and he was somehow fused with the tree. It's kept him alive for the last millennium and also started to take over his mind. The tree only wants to live. Visil is very body horror'd and the party puts him out of his misery, and he gives them a vial of a serum that is meant to weaken the Core enough that it can be killed without regenerating. Finally, they're able to move on to the last area, which is a terrible awful womb level zone, they get to skip most of it for plot reasons and it's still too much! The Core is there and the party uses the serum to weaken it, and they fight it and kill it once...but it regenerates. But then the one Forest Folk they interacted with most appears, and sacrifices herself to boost the team's power so they'll be able to kill it for real, and it's happily ever after.

Except not really. Immediately after they leave the Labyrinth, the party sees a bright light shining up into the sky, coming from Gladsheim. They race back and find that M.I.K.E. has decided to fire off Gungnir anyway, even though 1) the party has removed the need for it and 2) without Frederica activating the last terminal, Gungnir wouldn't penetrate deep enough to affect the Core but would still have all the destructive power on the surface. The party has a very tight time limit to get through the ruin and stop M.I.K.E. from nuking Etria.

And it is in the middle of that final battle that Arthur got yoinked away to a murdergame! Which, sit down, this one's a doozy because it's based on Soul Eater. Arthur was soulbonded with a pair of glasses in a process that involved him dying and coming back to life (he only remembered this a couple of months later). And this time he has powers that aren't just science! He was given the ability to see visions of the past and future. This power occurs in just about the most horrifying way possible - in first person.

Anyway, as you might guess, this power is both a blessing and a curse in a murdergame! Mostly a curse! The murdergame premise is that spider witch Arachne has died but lived on as spiders and her servants Mosquito and Giriko are running the murdergame, alongside Asura (who has been made aware of things not going in his favor, in the future) in order to change the future and there's a lot of complicated stuff and, for both this and the next round, just....insert huge murdergame conspiracy theory here. Food is vastly limited for the entire five weeks they're there, other than souls provided to be eaten at trials, so Arthur spends most of this round starving. There's memory tampering, so he's extra stressed. Asura crawling around in the walls is causing everyone to get extra aggressive and hallucinate, with good old Soul Eater sanity slippage. He gets close to a few of the other victims of the murdergame, most notably Eric Lecarde and Emma Milstein. Eric gets away with murder, and then the next week Emma very nearly gets scapegoated. She does not...but the next day, Asura tears her soul out of her chest. Arthur and Eric come across this, and in manic rage and determination, fight the madness creature off. Arthur punches Asura's head off and feeds it to Eric's crocodile shadow, but they are unable to save Emma. The next week is the final trial, where Arthur and the other five survivors of the round investigate and determine they actually don't care or have a role to play in this world's conflict or timelines, and just nope out of choosing a side. Excalibur takes them to a bar instead and in the new future they create, Arthur gets a very large statue of himself, in commemoration of his slaying of Fear.

But we've got another round to get through, and this one was based on A Wrinkle in Time, and was also the capstone to six rounds of murdergame oh god I don't think I want to try and explain that any more than you want to read it, we'd be here forever. Suffice to say, it was a lot. Arthur managed to have contact outside the murdergame through his visions, because those with enough power and the right type of power can notice his presence and even send his consciousness to specific memories. IT was also eventually able to notice what Arthur was doing. Arthur continued to starve in this round, too, because visions convinced him he could not trust the food. There was a lot of threat of brainwashing. Anyway, he got very adopted by one Caleb Widogast, and also got pretty close with several other members of the cast, and he continued to have more visions and suffer a lot. Though he did get to see Emma again, briefly!

In the third trial, he helped rally the group to riot against the whole system and break free. They were able to save that week's culprit...but were tortured for it, and during this Arthur remembered the soulbonding with glasses experience. He charged into the final investigation, rescued Minamimoto (yes, from TWEWY, again this was the capstone to six rounds of murdergame please I am trying my best to finish up), and was among the first to charge in when the final trial became a final bossfight. He unlocked the secret weakness of IT that had been alluded to several times, and let loose by very loudly proclaiming his love for Emma for the entire multiverse to hear. He helped fight IT's physical form and got very injured very quickly, and spent most of the rest of the fight on the floor with broken ribs, but he did that very enthusiastically.

They won, and the group barely managed to escape the collapsing world with the aid of past allies and the returning cadre of people who'd died in the last three rounds. Arthur was healed and reunited with Emma. Everything ended very well, Arthur and Emma officially got together but determined they should maybe fix up their homeworlds first. Jesus Christ I'm done.

AU History: Arthur Charles is from a long line of academics - librarians, professors, historians, archivists, researchers, you name it. Both sides of his family reach deep into networks of universities and libraries, including into the secretive sections that study the supernatural. The local branch of the library is owned and managed by Arthur's parents, and he lives in the library itself, in the loft. The place is old and stories, and has all those delightful secrets everyone dreams of old buildings having. Secret passages, restricted sections, old tomes, obscure knowledge, fancy mechanical gizmos...

Anyway, the library naturally has a whole secret and very exclusive section for the study and record keeping associated with the supernatural. The mundane part of the library is open to the public, but the supernatural stuff....well, it's not! But, also, Arthur literally grew up in this building, his family could not keep him out of it, so...yeah he's just kind of grown up aware of the supernatural, developed a little ability of his own. He's doing his best to keep it secret. He's trying?

AU Personality Differences: Much like with Jun, just like, remove the traumas. Oh and he actually has a few childhood memories. He's also got a more distant relationship with his caretakers, and is significantly more independent.

    Other Characters: Nina Lora

    Character Name: Lita Nia Elnaeus
Canon: Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan (OC, played from the game's setting with no actual ties to plot)
In my EOIV save file, Lita's main class is Dancer and her subclass is Nightseeker. Her element for regain purposes will be Water.

Canon History: lmao, okay, so, the actual Etrian Odyssey wiki itself mostly doesn't have plot deets on it except for Untold if you go digging, for some reason. Instead, as far as relevant linkable things go, EOIV's plot is given a brief summary on its Wikipedia page, and a larger casual explanation of things was posted on the Etrian Odyssey subreddit a few years back.

For potential memory regain purposes, most of the events of EOIV happened, up to a point not terribly long after the Titan's defeat. While she might recall some parts of it since plot did make certain details public knowledge in-game and as such she's aware of some things, Lita herself was not actually involved in any of that because with meme threads as an exception, I generally don't allow my canon OCs to really have direct connections to the plot of the canon they're for.

In Etrian Odyssey in general (unless you play the story modes in the Untold games), the player's party is made up of blank-slate characters, so any personal details regarding them are entirely up to the player. Since I've got Lita down as being uninvolved with plot, that means she gets a mostly-unrelated but canon-friendly background instead. It's nothing super-complicated because her life isn't exactly complicated either, so I'm just gonna keep it simple here:
    • Lita is from a family of wandering minstrels and other entertainers that eventually chose to establish a more-permanent home in Etria (the first game's setting). the plot of Etrian Odyssey Untold happened at some point but she's not part of the story mode party so she has zero awareness of any of that.
    • she found herself unable to settle down the way her family wanted to, ended up joining a team of explorers because Adventure™, and she was initially little more than a chatty and scatterbrained troublemaker until various incidents and other close calls eventually turned her into probably the most-reliable—and pragmatic—individual on the entire team
    • ...reliable enough that when the team learns of another land with its own places to explore, Lita is asked if she wants to help establish a new team there. the prospect of New Stuff™ is an easy way to hook her, so yeah she travels to Tharsis (EOIV's setting) and does exactly that, while remaining in contact with most of her old team (save for two of them, each for different reasons)
    • (most of) Etrian Odyssey IV happens while she's there and she has basically nothing to do with it

Canon Personality: As mentioned above, the player's party is made up of blank-slate types, so this is less of a 'canon' personality and more just the personality I've assigned to Lita.
    • With few exceptions, Lita openly expresses a like for people in general, making friends quickly and easily. Social situations barely faze her at all, and one could easily argue that she thrives on them. While her presence can be an enjoyable one most of the time, her enthusiasm can get a bit annoying at times, but she can usually tell when she needs to stop and back off. She will try, but she has some difficulty in handling rejection.
    • Because Lita does tend to pay attention to the people and things around her, she will eventually notice things about those people or thing, and in regard to people she will try to keep herself in check to avoid becoming too much of a nuisance; if it looks like she can be herself, then she'll do just that, but in situations where it looks like she needs to be more-serious, she'll dial it back at least a little bit but never all the way.
    • Lita does believe in second chances, and under most circumstances will be willing to offer one to any individual who had wronged her or otherwise done something seriously bad that she couldn't condone, if they demonstrate that they have learned or are willing to learn from their mistakes. However, should someone Lita has forgiven repeat the same mistakes or do something even worse, then that's it, she's probably done with them (but depending on the circumstances, she might give them another chance again). It should be noted that this mainly applies to serious issues; minor offenses aren't considered an actual problem unless they become a constant-enough thing that they're snowballing into becoming a bigger problem or otherwise getting harder to ignore.
    • Even in the worst situations, Lita will try to stay composed and find whatever bit of positivity can be found in the situation, and/or she will remain focused on trying to achieve the best possible outcome given the current circumstances. She is well aware that things won't always go the way she would like them to, though, and won't beat herself up too much over things that have gone south, unless said going-south is a very direct result of her own actions.
    • Lita is very willing to get her hands dirty if she finds herself in any situation that would call for it; should she find herself needing to physically defend herself or her friends, she will fight dirty and use whatever is at her disposal.

    AU History:
    • Lita was born in a small town that, generally, nobody really cares about except people from said town. She's an only child, her dad (Albert) is a band director for some school district in some other town relatively close by, while her mom (Sophia/Sophie) was initially just a stay-at-home sitting on a degree and teaching license of her own. She has one paternal aunt (Claire) who has no children. I am leaving the subject of any aunts/uncles/cousins on her mom's side of the family open in case anyone decides they want to do something there.
    • During Lita's elementary school years, her mom accepted a job as a high school dance teacher, so the family moved to the city where that school is so only one parent needs to deal with an actual commute and not both of them. At some point during her middle school years, she met Annalise Delacroix and they've been pretty good friends ever since.
    • Lita likes Doing Stuff, so during high school she's kind of all over the place as far as school activities go. The bigger things here are she takes her mom's classes, plays the oboe in band, and is also on the volleyball team for awhile.
    • A little while after graduating from high school, she heads to Kaisou to attend college. She has no idea that she's about to get blindsided by any of this.

    AU History:

Antonio Perez is the only child of two young parents. Despite having a loving family, his parents are often too busy to notice him. Since they’re always busy with their work, he spent most of his life trying to make his parents proud. While they do notice, their reactions aren’t what the young child wanted. Between trying to get good grades and being a positive role model to other classmates, the feedback is simply a “Good job” rather than any real recognition. This only made him quieter around people and focus more on his own accomplishments. After all, if his parents don’t notice him, why wouldn’t other people?

One day, when his father needed to move to Kaisou for his job, Antonio noticed something odd. After a walk to school, he started talking to animals. Feeling that was strange, he didn’t say anything and kept it to himself. He didn’t want to make people think he was weird.

Right now, he’s just trying to live the best life he can in a new place all the while trying to make his parents proud.

    AU Personality Differences:
-Less Responsibility: Since he doesn’t have his powers, he doesn’t feel the need to constantly help people out. While he still will, there is no added pressure
-Quieter: Since his parents aren’t the best role models, he’s already wondering how many people will disappoint him.

Character Name: Mendelson [AU: Mendelson Cael]
    Canon: Alchemy Stars

Canon History: Mendelson is a Caelestite from Eraveil - one of the last of his people since they were all but wiped out by an enemy called Eclipsites in the 'Darkover Crisis' seventeen years before Alchemy Stars begins. He is the Master of one of the Colossi by the name of Mantiz, one of the few of the Colossi to survive the Darkover Crisis. At the end of the war the Colossi who were left all went their separate ways, each with their own missions, with Mendelson's being to oversee Mantiz and the protection of a Think Tank Module - a device holding a great deal of historical and literary information not just on Caelestites, but also on Aurorians and other races, 'the most glorious hymns as well as the darkest whispers of the abyss'. However, the Think Tank Module also has a secondary (and much more minor) function, and this is the thing which attracts the attention of Schummer, one of the main antagonists of the story.

Not long after the Navigator and his Colossus 'Soroz' make their appearance in the world, Mendelson reaches out telepathically to the other Caelestite. This is an entirely desperate move on his part, as he realises how much danger he is in with Schummer closing in on his location and the Think Tank Module that he is protecting within Mantiz. While the Navigator tries to reach him, he confronts Schummer himself and tries to divert her attention away from what she knows he's hiding. He tells her that she has forgotten their promise, and the tenets of the Colossi, and he will never help her find what she's looking for.

Schummer attempts to attack but is stopped by Mendelson's two protectors - Vani and Philex - however, with her strength being far greater than Mendelson's own due to his not accepting the 'blessing' of the Eclipsite power, she easily overrides their directives and turns them against their master. They are ordered to seize him, and he flees.

As he runs, he contacts the Navigator again to warn him of what's happening and that he needs to hurry. The Navigator and Vice fight their way through to where Mendelson is, and through their telepathic link Mendelson manages to find his way to them. He's badly injured due to Vani and Philex's pursuit of him, as well as the effects of the Eclipsite 'blessing' on his body. The Navigator and Vice manage to defeat the two Guardians, and Mendelson visibly mourns the loss of the two beings who had kept him company for the past seventeen years.

Though Mendelson has a chance to flee once again, he instead makes the choice to lead the Navigator and Vice through Mantiz despite his doubts. The Navigator's words bolster him and convince him that for once, he must stop running and face the aggressors head-on. At this moment he suffers a bolt of agony, caused by Schummer finding the Think Tank Module, but this only strengthens his resolve and he leads his companions to her.

As his physical condition continues to deteriorate, he reveals to Vice and the Navigator that seventeen years ago he had accepted the Power of Eclipsites in order to survive. Schummer had done the same, but only Mendelson had suffered because of it. He speculates that perhaps his faith had not been strong enough, or maybe it was because deep down he had always refused to live that way. The Navigator tries to promise that they will find a way to cure him, but he tells them that it's already too late. Mendelson had been relying on that dark power to stay undetected for seventeen years, but thanks to the Navigator he is able to find it in himself to be brave 'for once'.

In their pursuit of Schummer, they come across an Eclipsite named Tabaad instead, who had been sent by Schummer's mysterious superior to stop them. Tabaad tries to tempt the Navigator with power, but Mendelson steps in and strikes him. The Navigator and Vice face Tabaad and almost defeat him but as he mounts his final attack, trying to turn the power of darkness on to the Navigator, Vice's commanding officer, Commander Hiiro, arrives and delivers the finishing blow.

Mendelson finally succumbs to his injuries and begins to fade away. He calmly accepts his fate, and reveals to the Navigator that the secondary function of the Think Tank Module is that it can reveal the locations of another two modules that Schummer requires in order to bring her own Colossus, the Aviduz, to full combat capabilities. No Colossi except for the Aviduz was ever made to have such ability, and it was never fully completed. A Colossus capable of combat would be a formidable weapon and one that Schummer would be able to use to devastating effect. Mendelson also tells them that the module has a failsafe that will be triggered upon his death, which will destroy it.

He warns them that Schummer will next target the last Aurorian city, Lumpolis, as another Think Tank Module is located there. Though he wishes sadly that he was able to go with the Navigator, this time he refuses to run away from his fate. As a last gift, the Navigator asks Soroz to link telepathically to Mendelson and show him the sky, as he comments wistfully that he had almost forgotten what it looked like. As he dies, he is reunited with his faithful protectors Vani and Philex, and he fades from the world with a smile on his face.

Canon Personality: Years of being beaten down by Schummer and of needing to hide for the sake of his duty to both Mantiz and the Think Tank Module, as well as what taking on the Eclipsite power did to his body has left him a nervous individual who flees at the first signs of danger as quickly as he did when he was younger. Even as he is joined by the Navigator and Vice he still has a moment of doubt in thinking that it might not be worth it for the sake of his own life. Schummer taunts him about his cowardice, sure that he will do absolutely nothing against her because all he knows how to do is run away.

It could be easily said, however, that Mendelson carries a good deal of trauma due to his experiences. He was old enough to be able to remember the Darkover Crisis and what happened to his people and has lived in near-constant solitude outside of the guards provided to him by the Colossus for the past seventeen years. He also carries the guilt of accepting the same 'blessing' that Schummer did out of sheer desperation, but being unable to make use of it as she has it has instead decayed and corrupted his body and made him extremely weak.

Mendelson values knowledge highly, understanding the importance of it, and is not well-versed in any kind of physical combat (this seems to be true of most, if not all Caelestites, as the race relied on Aurorians to fight and they would instead use their telepathic abilities to serve as tacticians). He describes himself as timid and cowardly, though these are the qualities which saved him when the Eclipsites first attacked Eraveil - instead of staying to try and defend his home, he ran.

His resolve, when it is triggered enough, is very strong. However it takes a good amount for him to push past his timid nature. Schummer comments that he had always been a coward and a 'wimp', but it is likely that her view of him is coloured by her own violent and power-hungry personality and that it has become a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy over the years, with Mendelson never able to pull himself out of his constant cycle of moving from bolt-hole to bolt-hole in a simple desperation to continue surviving.

He is usually softly spoken, has little confidence in himself and is self-depreciating, but also finds amusement in the irony of his loyally continuing to carry out his mission despite the fragile state of his body and the power he had accepted. Mendelson is usually softly spoken and easily affected by the words and attitudes of those around him, only able to find his bravery when he finally has someone at his side who he feels he can really fight for and who will fight for him in turn.

Mendelson tends to find talking about softer emotions and insecurities of his to be embarrassing, shown in the messages that the Navigator receives to their communications device following his death. He understands that he has always allowed others to decide how much he was worth and that it has been so long he doesn't know how to be any other way. Though he deeply desires companionship and misses his people very much, he is also very guarded and does not easily trust others.

In the end, though, Mendelson shows himself to be capable of incredible bravery. Despite his poor physical condition he stands up against a powerful Eclipsite and defies his sister until the very end, even finally accepting his death calmly and without fear. He shows remorse for the years he spent doing nothing but running and hiding and believes that in the end he was able to do the right thing.

AU History: Mendelson and his sister were non-entities as far as being noticed were concerned until they reached their pre-teen years, where the family bloodline prompted the visible development of Shadow magic in the both of them. While Mendelson's sister Schummer embraced the potential of this magic and turned her mind towards developing it as far as she could, Mendelson himself shied away from it. He became steadily more reclusive and difficult to contact as the years went by and gradually more and more estranged from his family, with his parents despairing of him and his sister thinking him little more than a coward for running away from what they had been gifted with.

Schummer was a recognised and sometimes feared user of Shadow magic by the time the two were in their early twenties while Mendelson retreated more and more, growing fearful of both her and himself and what he might be capable of doing if he followed her path.

It was this unfortunate state of things that led to Mendelson's current state. In a fight with Schummer, as she tried to push him to use the power he had been all but denying that he had at all for ten years, Mendelson was almost killed. As he felt his life slipping away he pleaded that anything might come and save him, and something did. The price that it wanted to exact from him was the use of the Shadow magic that Mendelson had always feared to take full control of, and so while he accepted the bargain in desperation at the time of his near-death, he has spent the years following in a slow but steady physical decline.

He moved to Kaisou in an effort to get out from under the eye of his sister and family, who currently think him dead, and put his skills with computers to work rather than his potential to wield Shadow magic. He managed to catch the attention of Zodiac, much to his dismay, and often ends up doing freelance work for them around his own part time job.

Mendelson tries to pretend that his health isn't suffering from his reluctance to adhere to the bargain he made for his life, but he struggles with fatigue, physical weakness, intermittent tremors down his left side, and is currently blind in his left eye.

In terms of OU -> AU differences, the backstory is different but the theme is the same. In OU, Mendelson and Schummer both possess the same power but Mendelson has denied it while Schummer has not. Mendelson spends years in hiding, only to ultimately die at his sister's hands (if indirectly). The only difference is that in OU, Mendelson accepts his death as he had finally overcome his cowardice. His OU form has horns, a tail, red hair and one red eye/one grey eye, as well as scarring. In AU he will lose the horns and tail, and have brown eyes.

AU Personality Differences: Very few! AU Mendelson would not have had the trigger event which would enable him to move past his fear, but aside from that he will be much the same.

    Element: Shadow

Purchased Powers: Low level shadow manipulation (2 points), Be able to dim lights somewhat (1 point)

Possession: Mendelson is possessed by a Revenant which requires him to use his Shadow magic at least once a day as part of its price. As Mendelson is reluctant to do this, it's having a detrimental effect on his health.

Phantom was born as Lucien in the Gallic territory of Celaiblason. His hometown was annihilated due to unknown reasons, and he was taken in by the passing Crimson Troupe and trained by its members. The troupe took in many orphaned children around Victoria, but those who did not pass the strict regime of artistry eventually disappeared. The Host of the Troupe, who oversaw the troupe's operations, was capable of using cruel Originium Arts to twist the bodies and minds of its members. Lucien was also subject to this. His inborn talent and quick mastery of acting made him a favoured student, with the Host personally tutoring him in singing. However, such lessons were also a means of brainwashing utilized to make him into the Host's masterpiece: a person who was both a brilliant master of the arts, and also a soul stained with the crimson shades of madness.

Lucien contracted Oripathy during his training, and he eventually discovered the Troupe's illicit activities and the true nature of the Host. Oripathy changed the nature of his voice, and his songs would cause severe psychological and nerve damage to anyone who was around to listen. His only comfort was in a black cat that befriended him, whom he calls Miss Christine. On his debut night, he killed the Troupe's members in a fit of insanity and fled. He spent the next nine years wandering around Victoria trying to piece together the events of that bloodstained night, and to eliminate the remnants of the Host's mind-controlling Arts from his psyche. He developed his Arts abilities and became an independent assassin to earn his keep. Eventually, he joined Rhodes Island after hearing a voice that told him he would find his answers there, taking on the codename 'Phantom'.

    Canon Personality:
➛ Talks like a character from a Victorian English novel
    ➛ Elegant, well-spoken, gentlemanly
➛ 'Weird' in the sense that he talks a lot about shadows, darkness, and the night
    ➛ Quiet, careful, and kind-hearted
    ➛ Loves music/theatre
➛ Has a 'split personality' due to mind manipulation (sadistic, single-minded and delusional)
➛ Distances himself from others as to not hurt them
➛ Fears losing control/hurting innocent people
➛ Not afraid to kill to get things done
➛ Loyal if you earn his trust

    AU History:
Lucien was born in Kaisou and orphaned at a young age. He was taken in by a fostering agency but was passed from family to family due to his innate spiritual powers unconsciously unsettling people around him (by projecting a slight but noticeable chill around him). Despite of or perhaps due to his lack of bonds with people around him, he threw himself wholeheartedly into theatre in school and became a skilled singer and pianist. He was poised to receive sponsorship contracts from several music companies, but all that changed when an attempt was made on his life when he was seventeen.

He was pulled back from the brink through the grace of an Outer God, but the god's possession changed his life irrevocably. Now unable to sing and constantly grappling with the whispers of his 'patron', he vanished from the stage and many believed him to have died that day. Robbed of his greatest joy in life, he sank into a deep depression which further exacerbated his latent spiritual powers. He was then found by agents from Zodiac and given some basic knowledge of the Spirit Realm, allowing him to earn a living by taking freelance contracts related to the supernatural. By combining his spiritual powers with his choice of weapon (twin blades), he became an efficient assassin and stealth combatant.

Like canon, Phantom is his codename which he uses for work and Lucien is his real name. He also has a cat. His 'pet' cat, Miss. Christine, appears to be a black cat. However, she is able to understand speech and constantly follows him around. She is actually a manifestation of his broken psyche, but he isn't able to recognize that and thinks she is just a normal cat.

    AU Personality Differences:
Lucien is 5-6 years younger in AU than in OU, so he's less set in his cryptic ways and more willing to accept other people in his vicinity. He also does not have the split personality problem. Other than that, it's not too different.

    Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: Medium level shadow manipulation (3 points)
Possession: Lucien is possessed by Tru'nembra, the Angel of Music, and an Outer God.
➛ His voice will drive nearby humans insane, and prolonged exposure will cause irreversible madness. He paid for a custom restraining device to reduce its effects so that he can speak normally, but he can never sing again without severe consequences. This can also affect spiritual entities to a much lesser extent, allowing him to disorient them by singing. He has pretty bad scarring on his throat (which was where he was stabbed). It's partly covered by the limiter though.
➛ He is constantly haunted by the whispers of his 'patron', which causes him to semi-frequently have nightmares and hallucinate amorphous objects or tentacles emerging from holes in reality. If he is mentally stressed, these hallucinations will manifest into reality through his shadow manipulation powers. He has bad sleep quality and seems tired most of the time.

    Other Characters: N/A

    Character Name: Idia Shroud
    Canon: Twisted Wonderland
Canon History: •Eldest son of the Shroud family, who have had the role of Watchman in the world of Twisted Wonderland. Essentially, their purpose is to step in if things go absolutely pear-shaped in regards to Overblot (aka when a mage goes absolutely ballistic and gets consumed by a magical phenomenon known as “blot”, which results from Bad Vibes and overuse of magic). They founded an NGO organization called S.T.Y.X. that focuses on blot research and peacekeeping and blot intervention.
•Of course, this research into blot isn’t purely for the pursuit of knowledge or finding a way to ease the suffering mages who suffer from an excess of blot - the Shroud family’s bodies consume blot but are incapable of producing any themselves. While this means they are (theoretically) immune to Overblot, their bodies will begin to consume themselves if they cannot consume ambient blot. Because of this the Shroud family cannot live off of the Isle of Lamentation, which is also home to specters made of blot. I’m sorry for using “blot” so much in this description.
•Idia is also the current Acting Director and is a prodigy in the world of magical technology, with the height of his ability obvious in his robotic younger brother, Ortho. (Who was not always a robot, but it’s Fine.)
•He’s a third year at Night Raven College, and the housewarden of the Ignihyde dorm due to a combination of his family’s status and his intellect. There’s really not a whole lot that happened between his childhood and his first couple years at NRC.
•Unfortunately, Isekai Happened and a human from another world showed up and everything started to… well, go pear-shaped. Students at the school began to suffer from Overblot with startling frequency, which wasn’t great!
•Still, despite several of his classmates going off the deep end, school life largely continued as normal. He worked on his magical technology projects, went to class, tried to avoid socializing, and got roped up into things he didn’t want to do.
•He was chosen to participate in a wish-granting ceremony, having to go around and ask other students what they wished for and seeing if he could fulfill them and then take part in a performance. It went… mostly okay except for his anxiety that caused him to craft a device that would block digital recordings. (Unfortunately someone brought an analog camera, so he was still captured on tape. RIP.)
•He also got kidnapped by a ghost that wanted to marry him, once. Luckily the other students intervened after some gentle persuasion from his brother and the Headmage and he didn’t a) die and b) get stuck in a marriage he didn’t want.
•Idia spends most of his time on his own projects, creating mechanical marvels. This garners the attention of several companies after his presentation at the joint exhibition between Night Raven College and Royal Sword Academy. Fourth years at NRC typically do internships and the exhibition is a way for them to get exposure, but Idia has no interest in those offers - he can’t really work for anyone but S.T.Y.X., afterall.

Canon Personality: •Intense social anxiety - he panics when forced to be the center of attention, and absolutely does not want to be perceived. When he is noticed, he tends to assume that everyone is judging him and looking down on him.
•Reclusive - this goes hand in hand with his social anxiety. He tends to hole himself up and remarks he can handle 2D people better and would rather spend his time playing games and working - but it’s also because he knows he can’t exactly go out into Society. He’s tied to the Isle of Lamentation by his family’s “curse” so he’s going to have to do most of his socializing online once he graduates, anyways.
•Insecure - he is well aware he’s pathetic, he doesn’t need to be reminded of it. The only exception to this is when it comes to things he knows he’s an expert in, such as gaming and engineering.
•Arrogant - Those exceptions are when he can get extremely arrogant! These aren’t hard things to understand, so if you can you’re even more pathetic than he is. He will casually insult people for their presumed short-comings, as he thinks those things are incredibly obvious. He will call himself a genius without compare, and boast about how clever he is.
•Dedicated(ish) - he throws himself into the things he enjoys to a degree that can be incredibly unhealthy. He will spend hours on programming and experiments, but also marathon game and lose track of time. He’s constantly being nagged to remember to eat and sleep while subsisting off snacks and energy drinks.
•Perfectionist - everything he does could be better, so he’s always striving to innovate and improve no matter what it is. But he’s also the sort of perfectionist where if he’s not good at something immediately, if he’s not driven to improve, will give up on. If he can’t do something well, he won’t bother.
•Also he just kind of never shuts up.

AU History: •The Shroud family are the founders of the tech giant Styx Enterprises, so Idia has both lived his life in relative luxury and with a lot of pressure for him to succeed. He was born and raised in Greece, though he and his younger brother would often join his parents when they traveled on business.
•He’s always been very intelligent, graduating college in his adolescence and holding multiple degrees with a focus on engineering and programming. He’s already begun working for his family’s company, with the intention for him to take over when his father retires.
•Shortly after receiving his first degree, his younger brother fell ill, which is when his family decided to permanently relocate to Kaisou, where some of his extended relatives were living.
•Alongside their tech company the Shroud family has always been entrenched in the paranormal, conducting research on the paranormal for decades. What had started as his ancestor’s observations has become an entire (admittedly secret to the public) branch in Styx. Idia is well aware of this branch’s existence and his family’s connections to magic, but it’s not the branch he runs.
•At the age of 18, he was made Assistant Director of the engineering division of Styx Enterprises. Nepotism is alive and well, but he at least has the technological knowhow to get by without too much grumbling from his employees.

AU Personality Differences: Honestly? Not much will change at all.

    Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers: •Reduced need for sleep (5 hours per night)
    •Can become invisible (30 minutes)
    •Low level shadow manipulation
    •Slightly better night vision
Possession: Idia is possessed by a god (I mean, he’s based on Hades, is there any other choice?) and his contract prices are:

•Life - Or the consumption of energy, depending on how you want to look at it. Just like a vampire drains someone of blood, Idia has to frequently consume the life energy of another living being. This won’t necessarily kill someone outright, but it’s entirely possible, especially if it’s been a while since he’s paid the price.
•Death - The dead should stay dead, so if anyone Idia sees tries to cheat death he needs to punish them appropriately lest he just get fucking smote. This involves things like trying to bring people back to life, trying to drag spirits out of the spirit realm, or otherwise trying to prolong your lifespan beyond what’s natural, but only if Idia actually sees someone in the act. While the punishment doesn’t necessarily mean that Idia becomes Final Destination, the punishment has to be appropriate and generally means a lot of suffering and torment until the god possessing him feels that the victim has learned their lesson.

I’m not sure if these are good prices, but sometimes you just get stumped,

    Other Characters: Kakyoin, Yuu

    Character Name: Caesar Zeppeli
    Canon: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon History: Over here! (note: While Caesar and Kakyoin are both from the same series, they are from different parts and--more importantly--Caesar's long dead before Kakyoin is born, so they have no reason to interact)

    Canon Personality:
    - Outwardly a charming flirt, but it's mmmostly pretty shallow
    - Extremely Proud
    - Kind of arrogant, actually
    - Family is Extremely Important to him
    - Very serious, very focused
    - Holy crap he's got a temper on him
    - CAN YOU STOP PICKING A FIGHT FOR FIVE MINUTES YOU ASSHOLE
    - Honestly kind of scarily persistent in the right circumstances
    - Doesn't make friends easily/often but when he does he cares deeply and is incredibly loyal ("true love" as Messina puts it)
    - Not an idiot (... probably), but has never made a rational decision in his life
    - (Who am I kidding, he's definitely at least kind of an idiot)
    - Runs on his emotions 25/8
    - Tying into the above, he's definitely got a tendency to be blinded by his anger

    AU History:
    - The Zeppeli family has had strong ties to magic and the paranormal for a long while now--nobody's sure when exactly it started, but magic's been cropping up for at least a couple generations by this point.
    - Caesar mostly had a happy childhood, growing up with his older sister and three younger siblings and exploring his minor magical ability.
    - When Caesar was a young teenager, however, things started going downhill. When Caesar was 12, his father disappeared without a trace--into the Spirit Realm, not that Caesar or the rest of his family knew that for sure.
    - It doesn't help that Caesar's mother was rather quick to remarry... and Caesar had problems with his stepfather from the get-go. He couldn't articulate it very well, but something with the man set him on edge. However, whenever he brought this up to people, he was dismissed, thinking him just being grumpy about having a stepfather now.
    - This led to him starting to act out--mostly in the form of getting into fights on the regular and other various disciplinary problems in school, which only intensified after his mother vanished--to this day Caesar's still not sure whether she just disappeared or if she's dead.
    - Caesar managed to graduate, but his life has still been interpersonal problems and fights up until recently, when he discovered that his suspicions about his stepfather were justified--considering the man had developed an interest in his older sister.
    - Caesar, understandably having absolutely none of that, decided to make sure his sister could get out of there. So the two of them packed their things and fled in the dead of night. Luckily, the older sister had a friend in the church who was willing to help them get out of town and pointed them in the direction of Kaisou, where said friend had friends of their own who could at least help the two get on their feet.

    AU Personality Differences:
    - Perhaps most significantly, due to his AU backstory, Caesar has something of a problem with people not believing him when tells them something
    - While he has some lingering bitterness towards his bio-dad in this AU this does not amount to the vitriol his canon counterpart originally had towards his own nor does it come anywhere close to the vitriol AU!Caesar has for his stepfather
    - He's still just coming off his delinquent phase in this AU, where he'd been off that path for a few years by the time he's introduced in canon
    - He's weak to full name ultimatums and disappointed looks from his older sister :(

AU History: The Zeppeli family has long been gifted with magic. For several generations, those with supernatural gifts have cropped up in the family. Mercedes Zeppeli is particularly gifted. She grew up pretty happy, the eldest of five siblings, and found herself acting as kind of a secondary mother. She enjoyed it, though. Then, everything changed when her father vanished without a trace - into the Spirit Realm, though none of them knew it for sure. She was fourteen.

Her mother was quick to remarry (though with five children, who wouldn't be?) to a man of uncommon means and persistence. It was not an easy transition, and Mercedes took to being increasingly active in the local church to cope. After her mother vanished, too, Mercedes simultaneously stepped even more into the role of caretaker for her siblings, and got even more involved with the church - partly coping, and partly to escape the increasingly uncomfortable advances of her stepfather. He was interested in her for her magical potential.

Eventually, the eldest of her younger siblings saw what was happening and decided to allow precisely none of it. He whisked her away in the dead of night, and with the aid of one of Mercedes's friends from church, were able to escape. Said friend had other friends in Kaisou City who might help the two young adults get settled, so that's where they went.

    Character Name: Asriel Dreemurr
    Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: At the end of the Pacifist Route, before changing back into Flowey
    History: https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Asriel_Dreemurr
    https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Flowey
Big Undertale spoilers in the links – if anyone is still cautious of those.

Personality: ❀ CARING: Asriel was not only raised by two extremely loving parents, but seems to have the same empathetic and caring nature that Asgore and Toriel have.

❀ IMPRESSIONABLE: Asriel seems deeply influenced by those around him – perhaps even moreso than other children are.

❀ LOVING: This loving nature is both a positive and negative aspect of Asriel's character.

❀ CYNICAL: Despite having been saved by Frisk, Asriel still deeply carries a cynical view of the world.

❀ COWARDLY: Despite being willing to kill others time and time again, Asriel is also the kind of person to run away the moment that his own life is in danger.

    Character Name: Miyako Inoue
Canon: Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna
    Canon Point: End Movie
    History: History

    Personality:
The first step to understanding the whirlwind of a personality that is Miyako Inoue is breaking down the things that matter to her: First, her friends and family. Miyako's the youngest of four siblings and while she wanted time alone she never wanted to be fully alone. She has a natural inclination to people and helping people that few can rival (her helpfulness isn't always altruistic, however, and its usually just as much for her own happiness as it is others). As a teenager she picked up many hobbies just to be able to assist the people she cared about. As an adult she's quoted in her character song saying to call her if your troubled and she'll "open whatever gate she needs". Miyako acts for the people she cares about first and it's not uncommon for her to be unable to rest due to worrying about a situation.

Secondly, self-improvement and maturity are things she works hardest for (and sometimes they can come into combat with her desire to help). Ever since she was introduced into the series, Miyako has shown some self-deprecating tendencies that aren't entirely unwarranted. The unfortunate reality that the idealized personality for girls in Japan were those that were gentle and soft were not things she was unware of growing up — Daisuke outright compares and says that Hikari was more softer than her! Miyako spends most of her youth being hyper-aware that her honesty, upfrontness, and impulsivity were considered extremely unladylike and goes as far as to think that no one should want her around.

She always admired her upperclassmen — Koushirou, Mimi, and Sora. She goes as far as to really compare herself against Mimi and talk about the qualities they share that Miyako was just bad at. During the course of the initial series, her struggles revolve around accepting herself and her bad qualities as well as learning to use them properly. As she quickly inherited the girl's crests of Love and Purity, Miyako began to wrestle with what they meant for her and how they could possibly belong to her.

Her love is shown in the way she approaches people. While she can be quick to judge, she's also just as quick to love. Miyako doesn't hesitate to tell someone when she likes something about them, especially if it comes to features. It's not meant to be seen or viewed as flattery either, an openly honest person, Miyako simply just says what she thinks when she thinks it (which also has its pitfalls, unfortunately). She doesn't balk at bringing in strangers and has shown a willingness to bring in even old enemies — Her initial hesitance at bringing in Ken after he stopped being the Kaiser for her belief he was willingly killing Digimon. When she learned it was no longer the case, she was quick to try (in a gentle fashion) to bring them into her group. She cares about everyone she considers friends and cares very deeply.

Purity as its embraced by Miyako isn't so much about lacking malice as it is to being true to oneself. As formerly mentioned, Miyako struggled with seeing herself as a person that others would want to befriend. Because she panicked easily, had somewhat shallow thoughts, was quick to say what was on her mind, and could be impulsive she saw herself as lesser than others. Because she'd have these views of herself she'd overthink, panic, and often make things worse. She had to learn how to be able to show her emotions freely, but also do it in a way that didn't negatively hurt herself and others. She also had to learn that trying to force herself to be someone she was not would only make things worse.

Because while Miyako may see herself as a terrible personality the truth is she's actually a very good and kind-hearted young woman who didn't have the best outlets to express herself. It wouldn't be wrong to have her compete with the roll of heart/glue that held her group together. An energetic young woman who's quick to praise her friends, Miyako is best known for setting the mood of her group. She's stated in some interviews to be the "commander that pushes them forward," and also has a charging cry for when they need to get going. And if she's absent the mood of the group tonally shifts. Miyako is just the kind of person to be so herself and warm to other people she can make a group feel relaxed — It's not a trait she quite realizes about herself.

Part of why she doesn't see it about herself is partly in-line with the fact that as Miyako says: She can't stop. If there's something she wants to do she has to go for it. Sometimes it's seeing things in the distance that she wants to know what it is. Other times, it may be learning a new skill or going someplace new. She wants to chase her dreams and reach them for herself (which is what Hawkmon equates to her purity, in innocence and dreams). Miyako has to keep moving because if she doesn't she won't stop thinking. Despite her occasional speak-first-think-later and impulsive behaviors, Miyako is an introspective thinker. When something troubles her she slows down, questions why things are, asks for opinions and tries to understand. Part of her journey was learning not to jump to conclusions but one thing she never got better at was over-thinking it. Give her the time and if she doesn't come up with an answer that satisfies her she will panic.

The kind of soul to be excited about seeing something new and living a life of adventure it's important to know that for as much as Miyako has grown she hasn't fundamentally changed. As a younger adult, she's fully embracing her new found adulthood: Enjoying new, beautiful places, trying new wines, and helping other Chosen in their network. She's still just as bright and energetic as she was as a child, but she's learned better to how to stop from something hurtful in her honesty. Exploring her idea of adult maturity, she's still concerned with her ability to be honest to herself and embracing her ideals of love and purity. Her focus has shifted from being the ideal she imagined and just "having fun doing what my heart wishes" (even if she is a self-proclaimed fad-follower).

Star | Kelly-087 (Kelly Shaddock in AU) | Normal Modern AU

    Player Name: Star
Contact: [plurk.com profile] rustedpoetry or Discord
Invited by: Initially Amber and Usagi, pfff
Other Characters: Hol Horse and Suzi Q

    Character Name: Kelly Shaddock
    Canon: Halo
Canon History: Here, obviously playing a younger version which canon-wise would have put her just barely post the Chi Ceti IV incident.

Canon Personality: - Generally a pretty chill person and easy to get along with though might come off as standoffish at first to new people
    - Has a darker sense of humor, usually cracking jokes about the situations she and her team is in
    - "The most emotional of the Spartans", which I hate saying but when you're talking about Spartans, it's... actually really notable
    - In addition to above, she's usually the one that will speak out when something isn't right and WHY it isn't
    - While she might not say a lot of her emotions, her body language is always quick to give away how she's feeling
    - Super, super loyal to both friends and family. Particularly the latter as she's almost died several times further in canon to protect them.
    - Highly perceptive and observant, which is one of the many reasons she was considered the team's "rabbit" for recon missions as she'd notice thigs they wouldn't

AU History: - Has lived in Kaisou all of her life to a well to do family both monetarily and status
    - Kelly, from a young age, as the only child they were able to have was pushed to be the best she could be both physically and mentally
    - You know, because as the "heir" it had to be made sure that she had the best opportunities for the family to continue to grow in the future
    - This is, as might be gleaned from above, a kind of toxic thing to do to a child but it seems normal to her
    - Kelly had a particular affinity towards track and field, particularly when it came to sprinting and hurdles both
    - This was immediately encouraged and put her into a program with a trainer and facility in order to hone to the best possible outcome
    - Which, well, is looking more like Olympic training than just "I want my child to be healthy and get energy out" kind of training
    - For the most part she was home schooled until high school, her parents deciding that high school was important for those all important connections. Lord help her.

AU Personality Differences: Nnnnnot really other than she'll be even more hush-hush about talking about her family than she somehow was in canon. Which is concerning in and of itself.

    Invited by: Me
    Other Characters: Mirabel, Spinel

    Character Name: Napstablook
    Canon: Undertale
    Canon History: Here
    Canon Personality:

Napstablook is an introvert ghost with low self-esteem and a gloomy personality. They tend to spend their time in places away from other monsters, such as the Ruins. Along with preferring isolation, Napstablook doesn't try to initiate conversations with people they don't know. Such was the case with Frisk, when Napstablook pretended to be asleep to avoid interacting with them. But when Frisk tries to engage them in a friendly way, Napstablook is quick to warm up to them.

Napstablook suffers from a crippling lack of self-esteem, having absolutely no confidence in themselves whatsoever. They apologize for minor inconveniences, such as supposedly rambling too much when they talk about themselves for a couple of sentences. In response to attempted flirting, Napstablook just dejectedly answers that they'd only be weighing Frisk down. They don't expect anyone to go out of their way for them, and they don't expect others to enjoy their company. When Frisk accepts Napstablook's invitation to visit their home, Napstablook admits that they weren't expecting Frisk to come over. When the Mad Dummy flees the fight with Frisk, Napstablook immediately blames themselves for causing Frisk's "friend" to leave. They seem to have very little confidence in people willingly spending time with them, and seems to be resigned to the idea of others passing over or leaving them.

If they're gently encouraged or if someone's kind enough to them, Napstablook will attempt to socialize with that person and try to impress them. For example, if Frisk cheers on Napstablook enough, they'll use their own tears to make a ghostly top hat to show Frisk. On the other hand, Napstablook seems to take rejection pretty hard. If Frisk doesn't immediately say something positive when Napstablook tries to impress Frisk with their ghostly top hat, they'll respond with a sad "I knew it" and it'll be difficult to console them. It seems like Napstablook fears rejection in general, and that's why it's difficult to get them to socialize with others unless that person really tries to interact with them. Another example of this is when Frisk later joins a monster social networking site and gets a friend request from Napstablook. Before Frisk can even accept it, Napstablook immediately deletes the request. Also when Napstablook invites Frisk to lie down on the floor with them, rejecting their offer twice causes Napstablook to get upset and vanish out of the room. That's actually how Napstablook deals with confrontation or rejection most of the time. If there's a situation they don't like or want to run from, they'll try to phase away from it.

While it might be out of fear of upsetting the other person, Napstablook is polite and accommodating to a fault. For example, if Frisk chooses to fight Napstablook, they eventually reveal that they can't actually be killed and that they were lowering their HP because they didn't want to be rude. In a neutral run where Frisk has proven themselves to be dangerous, Napstablook will still attempt to be a good host despite being afraid of Frisk. Even if they're afraid of Frisk and don't want to be around them, Napstablook will attempt to find a polite and non-confrontational way of trying to steer them away. This results in Napstablook accidentally telling Frisk the location of their house so Frisk can "avoid" running into it by mistake. During the pacifist route, Napstablook makes more of an attempt to befriend Frisk. They come over to say hello while Frisk is in the middle of fighting the Mad Dummy, and actually invites Frisk over to their house. What this proves is that if someone is kind enough to Napstablook, then Napstablook will try being friendly with them in return. Napstablook never seems to expect their attempts at friendship being reciprocated, and they always act surprised when Frisk follows through.

By visiting Napstablook, it's shown that they have a strong passion for music and that they make CDs online as a hobby. If Frisk plays any of the CDs found in Napstablook's house, the ghost will offer their honest opinion on all of them. Napstablook has a strong preference for an eerie arrangement of ghostly music that other monsters find creepy and off-putting, but those songs are what gets Napstablook to really open up about music. They'll even sing along to one of the songs if Frisk plays it.

When not making CDs or listening to music, Napstablook also has a fondness for snails. Their home is connected to a snail farm, in which Napstablook runs by themselves even after the rest of their cousins left to pursue their dreams of being corporeal. Out of Napstablook's family, Napstablook seems to be the only one who isn't fond of the idea of having a body of their own. In addition to raising snails, Napstablook is a big fan of Mettaton's TV show. They're the first one to call in when Mettaton starts taking calls for his show's last episode, mentioning that they'll miss the show once it's gone and that it brought excitement to their life.

In general, Napstablook doesn't have much confidence in themselves and tends to think of themselves as a bother, but they'll still go out of their way to please others. They're a very kind, and rather socially awkward monster with a passion for music that's hard to match. Napstablook's reclusive nature often leads them to be the last to know what's going on around them. This actually ends up saving Napstablook from having their soul stolen along with the rest of the Underground's population during Frisk and Asriel's final battle, but it comes with the unfortunate consequence of Napstablook never learning Frisk's real name.

    AU History:

-Napstablook was born to musician parents and has an older brother. Both of their parents are in a somewhat famous rock band that had a hit song in the 80s.
-Because of their parents, Napstablook has traveled around a lot. Their parents eventually settled in Kaisou after their last tour. Their brother ended up leaving Kaisou because he wanted to be more involved in television and acting. They haven't spoken to each other in years.
-At the age of 5, Napstablook began to see ghosts. Their parents forbid them from talking about it, afraid that it might single out their child for "being weird". They assumed it was a phase for Napstablook, and that they would grow out of it the same way a child would grow out of having an imaginary friend. They didn't. Instead, Napstablook found that they could help some ghosts move on through calming them with music.
-Napstablook became obsessed with the supernatural, wanting to understand why they can see ghosts. But their obsession started to include all kinds of supernatural creatures, convinced that there's more than just ghosts out there.
-Like their parents, Napstablook took an interest in music too from a very young age. While not rock music, they enjoy making music that's themed around the paranormal (their songs have a "spooky" beat to them).
-They eventually decided to pursue a career in music, and is currently working as a DJ in Kaisou.

AU Personality Differences: While Napstablook is still timid and an introvert, because they've traveled around so much they're less fearful in social situations. They still tend to yeet themselves out of conversations and situations if they get too uncomfortable though, but they're brave enough to work in busy dance clubs.
