OLD PAGE. GO TO THE CURRENT APP PAGE HERE

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on Sundays.

To join the game, the only big thing is you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. Just be sure to list their name and have the person confirm that they did invite you either by contacting the mods directly or commenting to your app. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two Sundays of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. The only times I'll ask for revisions is if there needs to be a fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player cap?
There is a player cap! Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

PLAYER SLOTS: 46/75 filled.

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is a player cap of 25 OU players.

OU PLAYER SLOTS: 24/35 filled.

At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open whether it be through drops, or adding extra slots. But to keep from one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is a OU cast cap of 6 characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

Casts near Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 6/6, OUS CAPPED

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a new character).

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
You have three options for characters!
  • Normal Modern AU: These characters have lived normal lives in a modern Earth setting, completely oblivious to anything strange up until their entry into the game. Anything in their backstory should be events that could reasonably happen in the real world. Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick one free regain (canon regain or an elemental power) worth up to 3 points that will come into effect after they join the game.

  • Paranormal Modern AU: These are characters who have grown up in a modern Earth setting, but throughout their lives have experienced supernatural occurrences. These characters will get 3 extra points when they app to use for powers that the acquired at some point in their lives (if they so choose). Characters are also allowed to be apped as possessed status. Please refer to the FAQ for more information on that!

  • Original Universe Characters: Characters who hail from their original world and find themselves waking up in this world. These characters will not lose any memories, and are allowed to have any items that would reasonably be on their person when they arrive. They are allowed to retain one ability that's been weakened to beginner levels, otherwise they've been completely depowered.

AU Name: Harleen Quinzel
AU Birthday: July 20, 1988

AU History: Harleen Frances Quinzel was born to Nick and Sharon Quinzel in Brooklyn, NY. Nick was a small-time con man in and out of jail for Harleen's entire life. Sharon was alternately inattentive and overbearing, often leaving Harleen to parent herself. Harleen was a latchkey kid, and started showing athletic aptitude early.

In late middle school through early high school, she fell in with a rougher crowd and started to sneak around. Harleen got her hands on a fake ID and smoked, drank, stayed out late, and dated older boys who had more in common with Nick than her mother approved of. In her Sophomore year of highschool, she brought her grades back up and refocused on gymnastics after learning student athletes could earn full ride scholarships. In fact, Harleen landed a full scholarship as part of a university's women's gymnastics team. She enrolled in a dual study program to achieve a Psychology BS and an Applied Behavior Analysis MS in 5 years. Between dual program studies and fulfilling her scholarship obligations, Harleen skipped nearly every social event of undergrad. She began wearing false glasses and dressing plainly during these years to take focus off her looks, deciding she would rather be noticed for her achievements.

After undergrad, Harleen moved on with another athletics scholarship to a joint MD/PhD program. She blossomed more at medical school than she had at undergrad, making friends and starting to develop a style that was more polished professional than intentional wallflower, although she was careful to curb impulses that felt too close to her rebellious teen years.

When she was 28, about halfway through her residency, she met Alec Hardy. She pursued him and the two began a whirlwind relationship. They were together for two years before, just when she was certain everything in her life was finally coming together, he left a one-word note and disappeared. In hindsight, their relationship wasn't very solid (neither of them were very forthcoming about their pasts or families) but it still hurt. Mostly her pride, if she's honest. (This relationship backstory was developed with full input and permission of Alec's player.)

Shortly after the abrupt end of this relationship, she finished her residency and began working fulltime as a criminal psychiatrist. She showed great promise but a couple years into her career, around the anniversary of Alec's disappearance, she was distracted while in session with a dangerous patient who sensed opportunity. The patient attacked and overpowered her and she was fatally wounded before security could intervene. Harleen's determination to survive caught the attention of a spirit that agreed to save her life in exchange for a few simple conditions.

Now possessed, Harleen had to give up practicing treatment as the contract price was too easily exploited. She shifted to research where she could safely keep to herself, and began researching magic and spirits in her personal time, even giving potion brewing a try. Eventually her pursuit of information on her, ahem, condition led her to relocate to Kaisou.

AU Personality Differences: Where canon Harley Quinn is pure id, Harleen has not fully given into purely instinctive pursuit of instant gratification. Harleen's basest impulses are very Harley, but she has not yet given up on self restraint. Her contract price, however, is driving her to say "fuck it" and let her impulsive side take the wheel.

Harleen is Harley-in-progress. Her worst qualities come out as more bitchy than criminally dangerous, and at this point she still knows her own limits. But her possession is encouraging her to test those boundaries and let that mask of a fastidious and ambitious professional slip.

She puts on a front of humility, as opposed to canon Harley's front of naivety, but is very proud of how far she's come at a young age, and the work put in to earn everything she has achieved. The fastest way to get under her skin is to disparage her accomplishments or dismiss her as a dumb blonde, but at this point in her life she fights with her words and not giant hammers or gonzo guns.

Element: Wind
Purchased Powers:
General: Detect if something/someone is magic (1 pt)
Elemental: Don't need hairspray to make hairstyle wind resistant (1 pt), Conjure a small gust of air (1 pt)
Possession: The supernatural being possessing her after her murder miraculous recovery is The Joker, a trickster spirit born of chaos and all around asshole. The Joker likes to whisper sweet nothings, tell horrible jokes, and encourage the worst decisions. As much as Harleen hates the contract price, she has to admit that nobody can make her laugh like him.

Inspired by two aspects of canon -- the first, Harley tells the Joker that she has "done everything [he] said" and the second, Harley must obey orders as part of Task Force X or the government implanted bomb in her neck gets kers-ploded -- Harleen's contract price is compulsive obedience. If someone says a direct command to her, whether by accident or on purpose, she has to do it. She has slowly learned the fine print (the command must be to her directly and not a general order, such as a posted sign, "should" is not an imperative, will not activate the compulsion if it is phrased as a question, and can be either verbal or written but must be in a language she knows) and become adept at malicious compliance.

She can choose to disobey, but doing so takes a physical toll. The stronger the command, the harder it is to resist, and resisting causes nosebleeds, migraines, tunnel vision, or even passing out. The more resisting she tries to do, the harder it becomes to disobey even indirect commands ("It would be nice if…" or "Wouldn't this be funny?"). Eventually she would even have to compulsively obey her own impulsive thoughts.
