Canon: Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna
Canon Point: End Movie
History: History

Personality:
The first step to understanding the whirlwind of a personality that is Miyako Inoue is breaking down the things that matter to her: First, her friends and family. Miyako's the youngest of four siblings and while she wanted time alone she never wanted to be fully alone. She has a natural inclination to people and helping people that few can rival (her helpfulness isn't always altruistic, however, and its usually just as much for her own happiness as it is others). As a teenager she picked up many hobbies just to be able to assist the people she cared about. As an adult she's quoted in her character song saying to call her if your troubled and she'll "open whatever gate she needs". Miyako acts for the people she cares about first and it's not uncommon for her to be unable to rest due to worrying about a situation.

Secondly, self-improvement and maturity are things she works hardest for (and sometimes they can come into combat with her desire to help). Ever since she was introduced into the series, Miyako has shown some self-deprecating tendencies that aren't entirely unwarranted. The unfortunate reality that the idealized personality for girls in Japan were those that were gentle and soft were not things she was unware of growing up β€” Daisuke outright compares and says that Hikari was more softer than her! Miyako spends most of her youth being hyper-aware that her honesty, upfrontness, and impulsivity were considered extremely unladylike and goes as far as to think that no one should want her around.

She always admired her upperclassmen β€” Koushirou, Mimi, and Sora. She goes as far as to really compare herself against Mimi and talk about the qualities they share that Miyako was just bad at. During the course of the initial series, her struggles revolve around accepting herself and her bad qualities as well as learning to use them properly. As she quickly inherited the girl's crests of Love and Purity, Miyako began to wrestle with what they meant for her and how they could possibly belong to her.

Her love is shown in the way she approaches people. While she can be quick to judge, she's also just as quick to love. Miyako doesn't hesitate to tell someone when she likes something about them, especially if it comes to features. It's not meant to be seen or viewed as flattery either, an openly honest person, Miyako simply just says what she thinks when she thinks it (which also has its pitfalls, unfortunately). She doesn't balk at bringing in strangers and has shown a willingness to bring in even old enemies β€” Her initial hesitance at bringing in Ken after he stopped being the Kaiser for her belief he was willingly killing Digimon. When she learned it was no longer the case, she was quick to try (in a gentle fashion) to bring them into her group. She cares about everyone she considers friends and cares very deeply.

Purity as its embraced by Miyako isn't so much about lacking malice as it is to being true to oneself. As formerly mentioned, Miyako struggled with seeing herself as a person that others would want to befriend. Because she panicked easily, had somewhat shallow thoughts, was quick to say what was on her mind, and could be impulsive she saw herself as lesser than others. Because she'd have these views of herself she'd overthink, panic, and often make things worse. She had to learn how to be able to show her emotions freely, but also do it in a way that didn't negatively hurt herself and others. She also had to learn that trying to force herself to be someone she was not would only make things worse.

Because while Miyako may see herself as a terrible personality the truth is she's actually a very good and kind-hearted young woman who didn't have the best outlets to express herself. It wouldn't be wrong to have her compete with the roll of heart/glue that held her group together. An energetic young woman who's quick to praise her friends, Miyako is best known for setting the mood of her group. She's stated in some interviews to be the "commander that pushes them forward," and also has a charging cry for when they need to get going. And if she's absent the mood of the group tonally shifts. Miyako is just the kind of person to be so herself and warm to other people she can make a group feel relaxed β€” It's not a trait she quite realizes about herself.

Part of why she doesn't see it about herself is partly in-line with the fact that as Miyako says: She can't stop. If there's something she wants to do she has to go for it. Sometimes it's seeing things in the distance that she wants to know what it is. Other times, it may be learning a new skill or going someplace new. She wants to chase her dreams and reach them for herself (which is what Hawkmon equates to her purity, in innocence and dreams). Miyako has to keep moving because if she doesn't she won't stop thinking. Despite her occasional speak-first-think-later and impulsive behaviors, Miyako is an introspective thinker. When something troubles her she slows down, questions why things are, asks for opinions and tries to understand. Part of her journey was learning not to jump to conclusions but one thing she never got better at was over-thinking it. Give her the time and if she doesn't come up with an answer that satisfies her she will panic.

The kind of soul to be excited about seeing something new and living a life of adventure it's important to know that for as much as Miyako has grown she hasn't fundamentally changed. As a younger adult, she's fully embracing her new found adulthood: Enjoying new, beautiful places, trying new wines, and helping other Chosen in their network. She's still just as bright and energetic as she was as a child, but she's learned better to how to stop from something hurtful in her honesty. Exploring her idea of adult maturity, she's still concerned with her ability to be honest to herself and embracing her ideals of love and purity. Her focus has shifted from being the ideal she imagined and just "having fun doing what my heart wishes" (even if she is a self-proclaimed fad-follower).
