Character Name: Tiera Canon: OC (Pokemon tabletop)
(cw for both canon and au history: child abandonment) Canon History: Tiera's world is basically a medieval fantasy world, but with Pokemon. Pokeballs exist, but people also use apricorns to make all sorts of other, such as magical spellbooks with Pokemon on the pages, or tattoos holding Pokemon within. (Tiera herself uses feathers embued with apricorn energies.) The Legendaries are known to exist, and are still considered gods. There are seven kingdoms in the world with their own politics, as well as the Forgotten Kingdom, a former kingdom of artists which was supposedly destroyed by the gods for the crime of hubris. Even now, people descended from that place are often viewed with a combination of fascination and suspicion.
Tiera herself was found abandoned as a baby by a flock of wild Hoothoot and Noctowl, who dwelled in the Emerald Forest, along with a Cyndaquil egg. She and the Cyndaquil, when he hatched, were raised among them, her natural channeling abilities helping her to understand her new family deeply. For a long time, she grew up with them, enjoying her life in the forest, but slowly grew curious about humanity. Eventually, she took her "twin," the Cyndaquil-now-Quilava who had hatched alongside her, as well as her two younger "siblings," a pair of Hoothoot.
Eventually, she came to a village and ended up meeting Jann, a store owner who found her hunting Rattata that were trying to get into his trash. He ended up making her an offer: Continue helping him with pest control, and he would let her live there. She at first saw this as a simple contract like the ones between Pokemon and Trainers, but as time went on would slowly start to see Jann as a father figure, and he would start to see her as a daughter. She would also start helping out in the shop more and more, instead of simply hunting pests.
While not everyone accepted her, things were mostly peaceful until the day Zekrom crashed into their village, killed in a fight with Reshiram, and everything was thrown into chaos. Tiera and Jann escaped, and Jann immediately started making plans to leave, since as someone with strong Forgotten ancestry, he was likely to be viewed with suspicion by the more superstitious people. They ended up forming a loose alliance and traveling in a caravan together, fighting off wild Pokemon who were now becoming more aggressive and a bandit attack before reaching the city of Cordrio.
Canon Personality: -Loyal: Once someone wins Tiera's affections, they're almost certain to have a friend for life. She will always take them into consideration when making her plans, and will always want to make whatever choice gives the best outcome for all of them. If they are in danger, she is certain to come rushing to the rescue. She would, in fact, burn down the world for the people she loves. For now, this mostly applies to her family/flock, who are the most important people in her life. While she's willing to make and honor temporary alliances, if push comes to shove, she will abandon them for her family unless they've won her over some other way. -Focused: Tiera takes her responsibilities seriously. While she was helping Jann in the shop, she would pretty much never be distracted. She's also quite the good lookout when she needs to be. -Smarter than she looks: Despite her simple vocabulary, Tiera knows much more than her vocabulary can convey. She's actually fairly good at doing addition and subtraction fast, due to working in Jann's shop, and also has very neat handwriting from helping write labels and signs for the shop. She's also good at reading people as well, and knows a lot about the wilderness and surviving within. -Curious: Tiera is always eager to learn more about the world and everything that happens in it. The differences between human and flock culture are fascinating enough to her, even if she doesn't always fully understand all of it. -Leaderly: Tiera is considered the leader of her smaller flock, and she takes that seriously. She's fairly good at planning group tactics, and considering the larger picture of the whole battlefield. As long as she knows their abilities, she will likely be able to figure out how to best put them to use. However, this also means she tends to try and claim the position of leader when in a group, and rarely defers to others by default-she usually needs some kind of show of strength/competition to be willing to do so. -Feral-minded: Tiera still has a bit of a hunter's mindset, which Jann never fully trained out of her. Instead, he taught her to obey the laws of civilization within the bounds of civilization. Thus, outside of that she has a tendency to jump towards violence as a first solution. She keeps many small birdlike quirks that aren't particularly troublesome to deal with. She also still struggles to interact properly with humans at times when not following the script of serving a customer. -Musical: Tiera strongly enjoys singing, at least partially because she can channel various abilities through it.
AU History: -Was slightly older when she was abandoned in a forest -Raised by some unusually intelligent owls, along with several friendly wind spirits, leading her to have a very strong connection with the supernatural from birth -Eventually wandered into a nearby town with her two "sibling" owls, where she ended up being found by Jann and bonding with him after a while of being skittish -After Jann got her to come with him to a Department of Child Services, he eventually ended up officially adopting her and enrolling her in school -He's still a shopkeeper and she helps out occasionally, but not really as a full employee -Jann and her moved to Kaisou a couple years ago because of a natural disaster back home, Jann has old friends here who helped them get settled
AU Personality Differences: -More socialized around humans and less feral-minded due to having attended school, although she's still considered mostly the "outcast" and "weird kid" -As a consequence of the above, also less likely to abandon temporary alliances and less willing to burn down the world for love -More willing to defer to others without a fight and less focused on being the leader in every situation -Actually more nonverbal, due to having assistive technology for communication
Element: Wind Purchased Powers: -Full animal communication (birds only, works best with owls and other birds of prey)
