What are Side Quests and how do they work?
Side Quests are optional missions/jobs that are posted on the Libra Network each month for characters to do. New quests will appear every month around the same time as the OOC plotting post (so about the 28th), but ICly will appear on the app on the 1st of the month.

Players will sign up their characters to do particular quests with another character or in a group. During the sign up, players will give information on how well a character would do on a particular quest (for example: if an illiterate character was asked to read some books to children, you should mention that they can't read). With this information factored in, the mod helper will respond with roughly how smoothly the quest will turn out based on a combination of your characters skills and RNG.

From there, players are free to play out or hand-wave the side quests as they wish! While we ask that players sign up for quests that are happening in the current month, players can backdate quest threads as much to your liking.

The minimum amount of characters that can partake in a quest is 2 characters. There is no maximum limit, so in theory you could have a raid party of 30 characters. You can sign up for as many quests as you like.

Quest results will be received on Sundays by 4pm EST. If there are quests that were submitted BEFORE 4pm EST that didn't get their results that day, they may get their results on Monday. Quests that are submitted on Sunday AFTER the 4pm EST window may have to wait until the following weekend to get results.

Please note that while factors like luck-based abilities and specialized skills will increase the chances of success in side quests, there is always a chance of failure depending on how the dice rolls land (for instance, if the side quest mods roll a "1", the quest will be a failure regardless of luck boosts). Sometimes failure happens, and that's okay! The mods are not failing any players on purpose, the rolls are entirely up to RNG. If there are any severe long term consequences to a side quest, it will be listed in the quest info so no one is caught by surprise.

We ask that players please understand when they sign up for a quest, and to accept any failed results with maturity (aka don't harass the side quests mods over it). Should you be unable to do so, you will get one warning. Should you continue to act inappropriately, you may be barred from participating in future side quest for some time depending on the severity of the situation.

Are there Rewards?
Each quest will have IC rewards for characters that vary depending on the quest and how well the characters do! IC rewards will be listed next to the results.

On the OOC end, there are two different rewards you can obtain should you turning in quest threads that have at least 3 comments from your character:

1. Regain Points: You can obtain 2 regain points per quest thread that you submit! The maximum of regain points you can earn through this manner is 4 regain points per player per month (or through two quests maximum). In order to be eligible to earn this on multiple quests, each quest thread must be with a different player, as we want side quests to be a way to encourage CR. This requirement will reset on a bimonthly basis (example: if TF and Yuff did a quest together and got 2 regain points for it in July, the next time we could do a quest together that'd earn us regain points is September).
2. Gacha Pulls: For every quest thread submitted, you can earn 2 free gacha pulls. You can only redeem quest threads for gacha pulls 3 times per month (aka a maximum of six pulls per month)

The quest doesn't need to be completed, it just needs to have at least three comments from your character in order to be eligible. It's up to you to decide which portion of the quest the thread covers (it could be threading out the quest as it happens OR making a reaction post after the fact). Threads for quests from previous months can be redeemed as well, but it'd count towards the quest turn-ins for the current month.

When redeeming rewards, please make sure each individual participant comments to the quest results comment with a link to the quest thread AND specifies which kind of reward they want.

Quest Name: A Torrid Tail
Relevant Skills: Yuuki and Eunie are both in POKEGO, so they're both pretty familiar with elemental critters like this. Eunie also gardens, so she's used to handling these sorts of critters when they aren't on fire. Yuuki, meanwhile has a +3 personal luck boost and a +1 luck-boost-to-others from being a kirin.
Anything else?: As a negative, Yuuki is getting dragged into this and will be grumpy about it even if he'll do it anyway.

MISSION: SUCCESS

It turns out that being part of the nerdiest faction in the city is a bonus when one is dealing with magical creatures who like to self-combust. Having kirin luck on their side really does wonders, too. Yuuki and Eunie are quick to find the salamanders. A couple of stalls do set fire as they are brought out of hiding, but thanks to their monumental luck, there are always buckets of water or sand nearby to put them out. It's like the gods are truly smiling on them. Nothing gets more than a little singed. The stallkeepers there grumble, and will expect compensation for what was damaged- but it definitely could have been worse! Through the power of TEAMWORK (or Eunie pushing Yuuki along while he whines about it) they manage to gather all the salamanders from the area to take them where they'll be less troublesome.

For their success, they get $500 and a potion that gives you fire resistance (not immunity!) for 1 hour. You can also adopt a salamander (without fire powers).

Character(s) Involved: Ragna Mercurisson, Lapis de Fiore, and Noctis Cameron
Quest Name: Paranormal Slacktivity II
Relevant Skills: Ragna has shadow manipulation and claws, as well as high regen thanks to Azure Grimoire abilities! Lapis can actually talk to and summon ghosts, along with having high-level shadow manipulation and master-level shadow conjuring. Noctis has warping, the Engine Blade, and the kind of exhausted fearlessness that comes when you've been up the whole night last night and nothing can scare you now.
Anything else?: Ragna is scared of ghosts despite being possessed by a ghost, though his pride means he'll at least push past the fear to actually help. meanwhile, Noctis did not sleep the night before and is honestly just doing this bc he's planning to sleep on a rich dude's featherbed after all the work is done. Lapis at least has experience in talking to ghosts and isn't planning to just nap on the guy's dime.

MISSION: PASSING

The two willing questers and one slacker come to find a very messy house. When Ragna and Lapis try to clean one of the rooms (and Noctis decides to go sleep on the fancy bed) they will find things moving very quickly. Sensing nervousness from Ragna, the ghost takes full advantage of this and hucks an entire bucket of water at him. While Ragna tries to battle off the various other items the ghost throws at him like an angry, wet cat, Lapis can do her best to de-escalate the situation. Unfortunately, the ghost has taken exception to Noctis' nap and decided to go full Bedknobs and Broomsticks on the bed- floating it up into the air and smashing it through the fancy French windows of the bedroom, doing loops of the house with the thing. Does Noctis even wake up for this? Who knows! If he does, he can warp to freedom, if not...well. He can just enjoy a nice nap. Eventually, they manage to rescue the bed and bring it back down to earth. Lapis manages to talk the ghost into please stopping and by some luck manage to get the bed back into the house. They spend most of the night trying to fix the window and end up doing a pretty half-assed job of the cleaning they were assigned. Richard Richard doesn't notice- he's impressed with the new window they fitted! It seems he forgot what he actually hired them to do- which given this man keeps forgetting his house is haunted shouldn't be a surprise. They make terrible cleaners, but maybe they can set their sights on house renovations for stupid rich people in the future?

For your (barely passing) victory, you get $400 and a gift card for one meal for two people at a fancy steakhouse.

Quest Name: Bad Vibes
Relevant Skills: For retrieving the crystals, Ritsuka mostly has the fact that she's just so... straightforward and genuinely caring going for her. She just wants to help! Like we're talking that if she's sufficiently concerned and someone's being extra-stubborn she might even simply offer to buy back the crystal just to protect them. She also has that absurd-level sense of smell (thanks, gacha) that could possibly help with finding or tracking down the crystals once she knows what to look for.

For dealing with the kitsune... she's got the animal love trait I guess?? If that would even affect them. Otherwise pretty much just her earnestness. Yeah.
Anything else?: Thanks to a curse Ritsuka now turns into a two-tailed kitsune herself! And while she'd stick to human form for the mission, her iffy sense of control means there's pretty much always at least one tail visible. Which no, it wouldn't occur to her to hide or otherwise do anything about that when dealing with the kitsune, because that would require actually thinking these things through before acting on them.

MISSION: FAILURE

Unfortunately for Ritsuka, crystals do not have a smell, so her sense of smell is not helpful at all for her here. When she tries to use it, she ends up on a wild goose chase which, quite literally at one point, ends with the geese chasing her. Might want to stay away from that lake, Ritsuka! Her stubbornness does help her find one of the poor victims of the crystal- but as they were turned into a mouse, it's pretty hard to convince them to give up the crystal in question- largely because it's bigger than they are and they put it in their underground nest. If she's stubborn enough, she can dig the thing out but as soon as she touches it...well, she can enjoy being a mouse herself. Either as a mouse or a person, she can return to the Kitsune to try and Make Them Stop.

Animal love does not influence anything with human-level sentience, so it would have no effect on the Kitsune, and they would be rather insulted if she tried! They do make note of the fact she's cursed- but they know that it's different to themselves. It won't stop them from trying to make her think that she's special, though- calling her "sister" and the like. They're just trying to butter her up to make her an easier possible mark in the future. If she was cursed as a mouse, they will change her back, but tell her she OWES them one at a later date. They are, unfortunately not convinced to change their minds on pawning off the crystals.

For your tragic failure, you hear foxish laughter as misfortune falls upon you for the next 24 hours, in your case, you can only tell the truth.

Character(s) Involved: Lapis and Jinwoo
Quest Name: Just Dew It
Relevant Skills: Local shadow couple back with -4 as usual. Jinwoo is the go-to for being sneaky for any investigation/snooping thanks to his abilities and Lapis is the more fight orientated, so if combat happens she can step in with her scythe. And considering their mission involves dealing with a love potion vendor, they'll both have a vested interest in solving this.
Anything else?: Instead of celebrating her birthday in a normal way, they're being productive since Lapis is just quietly vibrating from anxiety and is in no mood to celebrate. There is much stress. Also Jinwoo had the vision about the love potion so mayhap this might help with the sidequest?

MISSION: VERY SUCCESSFUL

There are certainly less stressful ways to spend one's birthday than hunting down a dodgy potion seller trying to pawn off knock-off love potions, but who are we to judge. Jinwoo's stealth is a good way to do some investigative work as they hide out in a convenience store storage room, waiting for a shipment of the sketchy potions to come in. Unfortunately, Jinwoo's terrible luck once again betrays him and he ends up in a comedy of errors in there, which ultimately ends with his foot in a mop bucket and an entire shelving unit being pulled off the wall. The noise makes the delivery person scatter, but in their haste, they leave a piece of paper with the address of the potion makers scrawled on it- convenient!! It's not hard from there to find the culprit in the Entertainment District - here Lapis can let loose with her battle prowess- keeping the culprit busy while Jinwoo gets rid of the tainted product. The guy puts up one hell of a fight for a greasy little nobody who makes weird potions- but she is on her toes enough to deal with him. Jinwoo's terrible luck does mean that some end up in the drains but the worst that'll do is create some interesting romantic situations for the rats in the sewers. It's fine. They manage to both beat the guy down and stop any more of the potions being made. Also probably helped sewer rats fall in love and that's always a winner, right?

Theyre at it again with the power of Lisa Frank and Furbies-

Quest Name: Fruit Flies Like An Apple?
Relevant Skills:
Yasuho - Has strong(er) animal riding experience, has seen furbicorns. Wearing 'Magic Kitty Cloak' + 'Magic Horse Boots', and has her sword. Experienced in working with Ritsuka, capable of grounded/quick strategy. Has Paisley Park, who can help tie both to furbicorn with shapeshifting. Can summon solid rainbows (strong enough to hold 1 person). Has Luck Bringer (+2 on rolls).
Ritsuka - Can summon a Furbicorn, which is a Furbicorn. Experienced in working on her feet with 'chaos'/on battlefields, and responding with appropriate tactics. Experienced in working with Yasuho. Skilled animal rider. Has Animal Love.
Anything else?:
Both girls are giving it their all, but they aren't here specifically to win- just have fun. They're therefore having fun, no matter how well they're actually doing.

Per their combined skills (which cover each other's blindspots), they're able to come up with a strategy to rush for the apple. Ritsuka handles the approach on the Furbicorn, as she's familiar with dodging attacks of all kinds. Once near enough, she has Furbicorn jump-

At this point Yasuho jumps up off the Furbicorn to summon a rainbow platform for herself. She'll jump from there and reach for the apple using her sword and/or hand.

Animal Love should keep animal opponents from attacking. If Furbicorn creeps out the rest, well, they aren't complaining.

MISSION: VERY SUCCESSFUL

The competition is stiff in the race for the apple. Yasuho's city cloak and awful horse boots are great for climbing up the tree- giving her agility and speed that's really needed amongst the branches. The Furbicon, being (tangentially close to) a horse, doesn't do so well with the climbing - even with Paisley Park keeping them on, it's clear that the hooves are not going to get them up and they'll need to unsummon it to get any further. They manage to dodge a rogue fisherman screaming and laughing a harpoon gun at them, and a pile of Girl Scouts who are just straight up building a ladder of Girl Scout cookies- watch them, they will use thin mints as weapons and they don't care who they hit. Ritsuka attempts to use animal love on the Terrible Geese, and it DOES work. Unfortunately, the only love the geese can give is the toxic sort and they show it by biting and getting aggressive at anyone else who tries to get near her. Luckily, Ritsuka's experience with chaos (though probably not this exact sort of chaos) helps her keep her head and between them they are able to clamber up (helped by the rainbows) to nab the apple. Victory is theirs!

Quest Name: Don’t Get Shafted
Relevant Skills: Both Dia and Ed are Roof Cryptids™ so they probably have a good layout of the city to track anything down. Edward has Eagle Vision for further tracking, shadow claws used as throwing knives and a shadow tentacle for grabbing and sleeping/berserk darts. He can also talk to rats which they’re in a city, so yeah. Diarmuid in general just has a knack for magic sensing being completely magical himself, spirit form for stealth, the forethought to not wildly rush into things and plan instead and of course, his swords. Ed is the ranged combatant while Dia is the melee fighter.
Anything else?: The both of them work well together already, but they also both have the devil’s luck. Like this is their job basically so in theory it should go well, but sometimes you have E Rank luck you feel?

Dia and Ed's Roof Cryptid™ ways really do help them out here. Sure, the chaos still reigns below, and the illusions are incredibly distracting, but at least from the roof, they have a better lay of the land instead of being down in the middle of it all. Ed manages to talk to some rats, but unfortunately, they are rats and when asked what is making the city so dangerous, the two get sent to the local cat sanctuary instead- after all, what is more dangerous to a little rat mind? The detour unfortunately does get them wrapped into an illusion involving a T-Rex trying to kill them. This one isn't purple but is probably still beloved by children everywhere. Kids love dinosaurs. Luckily, Ed and Dia have the skills to fight it and break free of the illusion. It's a solid combo of Dia's magic sense and Ed's Eagle Vision is what finally leads them to the culprits, mid-bank robbery. Between them, they have the battle skills to fight the thieves back- but their illusions are enough for them to distract the pair and make a getaway- but at least they didn't get any money! Congrats guys you sort of did it!

For your (honestly barely passing) victory, you get $750 and a box of really tasty chocolates. You also receive a book on ancient astronomy and astrology combined.

Quest Name: Apples to Pomegranates, Too
Relevant Skills: These two gals both grew up in the midwest, so they know their apples and could almost certainly tell the difference between a Honeycrisp and a SweeTango from a few bites. Pomegranates are trickier but neither is above simply asking for recommendations, even if any taste-testing would have to be done immediately as given their housemate that fruit is Forbidden at Lucy's house. Lucy also has all the charisma of an actress and radio show host to help with trying to calm the villagers down and maybe get them to listen to reason.
Anything else?: Mostly they're just looking to do something nice and helpful that isn't high stress or dangerous. They hope.

MISSION: PASSING

Both ladies are in for two excitable villagers clamouring for their attention- desperate to prove which of the fruit is the best one. The villagers remember Lucy and how she helped boost Oden's bar - and certainly crowd her for her opinion- maybe if she can give her choice on air, it will prove who is the BEST FOREVER. They manage to make a pretty convincing argument for the apples- they're a little less hot on the pomegranates, which does make Team Pomegranate think they're picking favourites. There's a lot of yelling and pointing going on. Eventually, the ladies are able to convince the villagers they want everyone's opinions, which results in Team Apple and Team Pomegranate giving very impassioned PowerPoint presentations on their respective fruits. It's in this debate they realise their differences aren't as great as they thought- and an uneasy truce is made- but only if Lucy promises a fluff piece on each fruit on her radio station in the following week. But hey, an uneasy truce is better than nothing!

For your (passing) victory, you get $500 and a bushel of pomegranates, as well as a gallon of delicious homemade apple cider. Do not bring the pomegranates home, it would be an extremely poor life choice. Just don't do it.

Character(s) Involved: Veldora and Wriothesley
Quest Name: Fruit Flies Like An Apple?
Relevant Skills: Veldora and Wriothesley both are very adept fighters. They both have been shown in their respective canons that they have the ability to hit a target with projectiles using their personal powers--Wriothesley with ice, Veldora with his hadouken and his lighting. Veldora can also use the power of flight to get a good angle or get up the tree very quickly.
Anything else?: Veldora and Wriothesley are not archers. They will be getting 'creative'.


They are also both extremely competitive.

MISSION: VERY SUCCESSFUL

Veldora and Wriothesley have a heck of a challenge ahead of them, but it's one they attack with gusto. Kaisou's Over 60s Archery Club SCOFF at these two who aren't even using real arrows- but as soon as they realise Veldora can fly, they realise that they're going to have to up their game. And so, as our intrepid pair try to make their way up the tree, they'll find themselves being fired upon by a bunch of geriatrics in Robin Hood tights. They'll need to use their own skills to dodge or otherwise fire back at the ancients determined to ruin their chances. They're pretty limber for old people and one of them has explosive arrows, as they chase the pair up the tree. The hadouken, lightning and the fact Vel and Wiro don't throw their backs out does eventually win out, allowing our pair to get to the top to snag the apple from the top of the tree. The archery club end up pretty good sports about it, and even offer to let the pair join for extra lessons so they can "learn the art properly".

Quest Name: Thin Hints
Relevant Skills: Frieren was a mage in her old life and is a magic otaku (affectionate) in this life, so she would notice any signs of lycanthropy. Leon is a private eye who has special eyesight due to his time in the Black Order.
Anything else?: Leon is fine with letting the old lady go. Frieren is also fine with letting the old lady go, but she'll probably ask her a ton of questions about being a werewolf first.

MISSION: PASSING

The pair set off on their madcap detective adventure, ready for whatever comes their way! Unfortunately, their first attempts lead them to the werecat fraternity house- which while a lycanthrope isn't exactly the one they were looking for. The werecats, as always, are extremely friendly and boisterous and demand the pair stay to play a game of "FIRE BALL!!!" This turns out to be setting a bowling ball on fire with a blowtorch and throwing it at each other. They manage to convince the werecats to...maybe not do this, and they begrudgingly agree and let the pair continue their investigation- which finally leads them to the correct werecreature thanks to their respective tracking skills. They get to the lady's abode and naturally, the Girl Scouts are delighted by their new grandmother. The pair allow this to continue as she makes them tea and cookies- happy to answer any questions Frieren has on werewolfery.

For your (barely passing) victory you receive $500 and a box of Raspberry Rallys. Yeah, the ones that got discontinued? Those ones.

Character(s) Involved: Ritsuka and Vash
Quest Name: Kelp Yourself
Relevant Skills: Vash, being a plant, can be underwater without having to breathe. Ritsuka has a cloak that allows her to breathe underwater, as well as magical tentacles that allow her to swim.
Anything else?: Vash is still terrified of going underwater, so this is both Ritsuka trying to show him that water isn't as scary as he thinks--Problem is, he's not a great swimmer, and sinks pretty heavily due to his metal parts, despite not needing to breathe air.

MISSION: FAILURE

You know, both parties being able to survive underwater should make this a cakewalk of a mission. Alas, the fates do not smile kindly on them this day. Ritsuka does he gosh darned best, but trying to wrangle a giant plant man into water he's terrified of turns out to be a pretty challenging scenario. It takes a lot of false starts to even get Vash into the water and all his splashing and panicking attract the Terrible Geese who make the lake their home. The second Vash sinks, one dives in next to him, trying to bite his metal arm to steal it for the nest. It likes shiny metal things that might make obnoxious noises when banged against other things, and so it wants the arm. What results is a lot of flailing, underwater screaming, and attempted arm theft. They're honestly lucky to get out of the lake with all limbs (prosthetic or otherwise) and magical items intact- as one absolutely takes a liking to that fancy cloak of Ritsuka's. They end up on the bank (after their GLORIOUS AND WONDEROUS reverse mermaid save), exhausted and wet and tragically without any Mermaid's Hair. Vash better watch his step in the future- every once in a while that particular Terrible Goose might take a fancy to his arm again. Don't let your guard down in the park, Vash. Maybe the water really is that scary.

For this pathetic failure, you will be rescued by a reverse mermaid before you drown. Perhaps drowning is a kindness.The reverse mermaid will remember them. It might even wink at Ritsuka. Is... is that winking? Hard to tell.

Character(s) Involved: Vash the Stampede + Choso
Quest Name: It's a Secret Tool That Will Help Us Later
Relevant Skills: Vash has the dodgetank abilities of an insane person, and while he's great with his gun he will only use it if someone attacks him/or choso first and he will never, ever shoot to kill--which'll probably be an issue with demons. Choso has less of a problem fighting or even killing creatures and can use his blood to fight as well as his great physical abilities/martial arts.
Anything else?: quiet, tired half-human cursed creature and a big excitable alien boy pairing up for an adventure won't go wrong at all right? A test of choso's patience tbh

How Garfield keeps convincing poor schmucks to go to his dirty work for them astounds all- but here we are again, a couple of poor schmucks heading out into untold danger to do something for the sketchiest man in the entire city. Luckily the first warehouse involves no fighting at all- though the art students do find Choso "artistically sound, in a gungey-gothic way" and demand him pose for their super ironic MCR photoshoot. Once that's out of the way, though, the college students do give the required ingredient (is... is it a carrot in a bag of ice? they swear it's a human toe but it definitely isn't). The next warehouse is a lot trickier, full of water demons who do everything in their power to shoot water at the pair to drown them. Between their battle skills, they manage to take them down, even if they get drenched in the process- they bring the second item (this is a spooky red rock that's got a lot of lips and eyes on it? weird, it's weird looking). When they finally get back to Garfield, damp but successful, he takes the items from you. He's pretty happy about the Totally Normal Face Rock That's Nothing To Worry About. He's disappointed with the carrot, he expected a toe- so he says he's deducting points for that- were they on a point system? He never said anything about a point system. Regardless, he accepts that they did bring them something he wanted so he'll give them a pass. This time.

By the time Gil and Vergil get to the sword, there is already a pretty sizeable crowd there. A bodybuilder who is more pecks than head is trying to pull the sword out of the stone- in all his vein-popping glory. It definitely isn't budging, no matter how many gorilla noises he makes. As Vergil and Gil come forward to try and take their turn, they are accosted by a bunch of nerds- who are the Knights of the Round Table reenactor group. The one designated their "Arthur" - a skinny teenager with acne and braces - tells them in a terrible British accent that he is 2 and a quarter-thirds Welsh on his mother's side and as such he is the one true king and the ONLY one who has a right to the sword. Gil gets his chance to fistfight this loser- his "Galahad" is pretty hefty, but honestly these guys only play fight- they've never been in an actual for realises fight in their entire lives. While Gil is dealing with the nerds, it should be pretty easy for Vergil to just shove the bodybuilder out of the way and access devil trigger to get to the sword- the normies really don't understand what happened and some start getting their phones out to film this while talking about his "costume" and how he got the pyrotechnics to be so BLUE. Between Gil and Vergil, they should be able to free the sword. Gil will have to deal with reenactment nerds occasionally trying to get him to fight a REMATCH (Arthur keeps calling him Mordred which is probably horrifically insulting) while Vergil will keep getting invites to various comic cons in the city. But hey- they... they got a useless sword out of it?

For your success, you get $1000 and you receive a group photo with your party, the sword, and the Arthurian people. You also get a plain steel sword. With the enchantment on it broken, it's basically useless, but we have a sword hoarder so maybe Vergil counts this as a win anyway.

Relevant Skills: Two shadow nerds and a water cat go on a misadventure. Jinwoo and his stealth and hiding capabilities, Lapis' ability to create shadow, and summon ghosts make for good intel-gathering, while Husk has a pair of wings and flight that can give him a huge advantage for scouting out or chasing the rogue set of clothing. Fighting-wise, Lapis and Husk are far more capable with their combat abilities--a scythe and magic, Husk's kinetic knife-cards, while Jinwoo mostly plays support with his summons.

MISSION: INCREDIBLE FAILURE (-2)

One would think this is typical for members of the Black Order with bad luck, and yet, somehow life finds a way to make it even worse. This is like a mission straight out of Florida. Despite bringing all of their weapons and combat skills to bear, it does nothing to forestall the catastrophic failure of this awkward team. It starts simple enough: there's rumors of this suit in one of the little indie thrift shops in Brick Alley. The team pursues their target, which they find latching onto a middle-aged tired manager working in the Poundland across the street. They try to snatch it and a brawl breaks out due to an earlier altercation at a Waffle House between church members. A police car bursts into flames for no reason. A minor celebrity of your choice is there, eating a Jimmy Johns sandwich and trying to decide who to cheer for. Someone else throws a rock at the trio. Actually it wasn't someone, it was a truck hauling rocks that had a few bounce off the top and wreak havoc down the street.

In all the chaos, the haunted business suit literally takes off down the street looking like the Invisible Man, and vanishes into a mid-rise corporate office. Thankfully corporate security isn't very tight. They must be Zodiac contractors, because they see the Black Order Z Team and their zoo of support summons and don't even fucking blink. But the crew has to dodge carts of files, people chatting around water coolers, energy vampires, and some guy named Baniel who you can't decide if they're Daniel shapeshifted or not but he won't stop talking about the Cubs.

Finally they manage to corner the suit in the recycling room on the fifth floor (after running up several flights of stairs due to elevator congestion). The suit gives you a rude gesture without hands, which you're not sure how but you can feel the malevolence keenly, and then it jumps down the garbage chute... free to live another day. You swear you see a businessman wearing the same suit later, but you can't be sure.

Unfortunately, because the mission was such an utter failure that it broke the scale, the team goes home empty-handed. You are cursed with one of the following for 24 hours (roll d4):
1 - animal ears/tail/features (up to the player if the curse is permanent)
2 - can only speak in rhymes
3 - butterfingers: you keep dropping things or tripping on air
4 - can only tell the truth

There are so many thrift stores in Kaisou to check out. Faust first leads them to a small thrift store off Brick Alley which is honestly the most bougie place imaginable. Tucked into the back of the store is a pair of boxers which promise extremely good luck in bed. It's not what they were looking for but if one of them wants to buy them, only God and the shopkeeper can judge them. As they follow the trail towards Undertown, they find the suit in a thrift store ominously close to an overturned garbage truck. They have no problem buying it, but the bad luck it carries means taking it back to Zodiac is a nightmare. On the way, they are swept up into Kaisou's Over 60s Cheer Squad's practice session. They can't really do the bends and the jumps anymore but they're trying their best! The pair WILL be expected to hold them and help them with their poses. Once they get free from that madness, they will be attacked by a flock of angry pigeons, the suit tries to escape at this point to join them. Luckily between Rose's speed and Veldora's flight, they are able to get the suit away from the pigeons. Finally, as they stumble into Zodiac HQ, they find the floor has been freshly waxed and will have a hell of a time crossing the reception to dump the godforsaken coat on the counter- WINNERS?

Relevant Skills: EDWARD: shadow powers have given him an edge to his stealth and traversal (he can hide from electronics for 30 mins, dim the lights for a whole city block, conjure one shadow tentacle as a grappling hook) and his new dragon abilities have given him tougher skin and a full transformation into a dragon (person-sized), but what’s really going to shine here is Edward’s Eagle Vision. once he gets in the same room as the cursed artifact he can find it easily!

LAPIS: Shadow powers that can help with sneaking and her ghostly summons that can also snoop around! Also has her scythe and basic combat skills for if things start moving around and get aggro at them

Anything else?: Edward has a fun little debuff where he is still very bitter over the Barney the Dinosaur fiasco. if, say, a T-Rex tries to gobble them he will just lose his whole shit and try to stab it in the neck. Lapis will be trying to shepherd him away so he doesn’t, you know, damage the museum displays.

This mission doesn't get off to a great start. A lot of the kids recognise Edward as That Bad Man Who Punched Barney and refuse to go near him. Little Timmy is eventually brave enough to go up to the pair... only to kick Edward in the shin, running back to his group for kudos! Luckily with his Eagle Vision, Edward locates the artefact pretty quickly. Unluckily, it's being clutched in the hands of Little Timmy, who isn't for letting it go to this dastardly villain against childhood joy. He tells Lapis she's a nice lady, but she needs better friends because bullies are mean! Barney taught him that!! Needless to say, he will not give up the artefact and the pair have to trail him around the museum in the hope he'll drop it. Unfortunately, he chooses to take it back to the T-Rex exhibit (because Barney also taught him not to steal!) just as the lights go out.

What results is a wild battle with the T-Rex skeleton while also trying to keep Little Timmy safe. Lapis luckily has her ghostly summons on her side which she will sure need to try and keep that awful kid from being trampled on. Between her and Edward, they will have to fight the thing back (though tragically, stabbing it in the neck doesn't work on a skeleton, Edward, Buddy) but between them, they are able to get hold of and destroy the artefact and teach Little Timmy an important lesson in not being a little asshole. He will leave with a newfound respect for the pair who saved his life.

For your victory, you get $500, your pick of a stuffed dinosaur plushie from the souvenir shop, and an apple. If Little Timmy is in the same area as them, he will sometimes follow them around- asking them a million questions like if they can lift cars or shoot lasers out of their eyes.

Relevant Skills: NOCTIS: in his past life, he was a king in exile, and in his current life he runs an indie gaming company, so his diplomacy skills aren’t too shabby although he is deeply awkward. combat-wise, Noctis can warp and summon the Engine Blade from nowhere to smack a couple people around. and as a last resort or if anyone pushes him into a fountain and gets him wet, he will turn into the world’s most annoyed ribbon seal and start biting people.

MEREDITH: Meredith was a commander and queen in her past life and up and coming businesswoman in this one, but her social skills still skew heavily towards leadership and she tends to be a bit more clumsy at personal type stuff. She is, however, a warrior in her past life and sports/HEMA enthusiast in this one, as well as having a plethora of earth element buffs to her strength and endurance should things come to a fight.
Anything else?: Noctis’s slacker ass just came here for the free food. Meredith figured a bodyguard job would be something actually within her wheelhouse as a nice change of pace to deal with.

MISSION: SUCCESS

This was always going to be an absolute shitshow of a wedding. It was as inevitable as the sunrise in the morning. Mark Dunothing is pretty stressed out about the whole thing, and his rising anxiety only adds to the flavour of the chaos. So while he's trying to breathe into a paper bag, the officiant is pushing things off tables, and both sides of the family are throwing cat and dog slurs at each other, our pair of questers need to get things under control. They do try to use their leadership skills to ease tensions first- to remind them that they are all here because they love the couple getting married and this should be a happy occasion! Unfortunately, the werewolves and werecats are determined to fight and before long an all-out brawl starts up. This turns out to be much more up Noctis and Meredith's street, and with their fighting skills, they wade into the fight. Meredith has to use her earth powers at one point to rescue the cake as it's knocked off a table, and Noctis is drenched by the champagne fountain which adds a bitey seal into the mix. Eventually, everyone fights themselves into exhaustion and the battle ends in a stalemate- but both families seem to have preferred clearing the air and soon they are all laughing and joking, with ripped suits and bruises- and finally, the wedding can go on- it's far from perfect, but that's what will make it memorable!

Ritsuka has incredibly enhanced smell, fox-level hearing, low-level night vision, Animal Love, +1 Luck...and an active hunting instinct. She also has experience in seeking 'monster' dens and removing 'spawning points'.
Anything else?: As noted, Ritsuka has a hunting instinct, and also happens to be a fox (kitsune, rather). She might eat at least one rabbit.

Jonathan meanwhile intends to initially Try zipping through the warrens on his own, but if that proves too difficult despite being much smaller than a rabbit, he'll shapeshift into one himself. ...Hopefully the rabbits don't mind, but also, hopefully he isn't too popular or he'll have a whole new problem.

While Ritsuka and Jonathan focus on the warrens, JoJo's Indeedee will be calmly levitating rabbits away from food and into pens. He's Helping.

Undertown is awash with cursed bags, there's a pretty sizeable throng of people demanding the pair's attention to get the problem resolved. Luckily, tracking them seems to not be a massive problem. Using their tracking skills and items, the pair run into a knapsack that has escaped into Corvus' TechBoi Empire, which is convinced it needs to spend all of its owner's hard-earned cash on the latest Super Cool Avatar. Unfortunately, Corvus hasn't quite got the hang of it and the "Avatar" is just a picture of a fat cat on a napkin (original character do not steal). Lucy steps in, using her celebrity status and radio personality skills to convince the knapsack it really doesn't want to become a poor man's techboi. Luckily, Paisley Park is on hand and that seems a MUCH better thing to spend money on. Even if the pair explain that they can't... actually sell Paisley- the knapsack states it only wants to buy her PICTURE. One of a kind!!! This is the only way to really... deal with this and not have the knapsack spend all the owner's money on a goddamn cat picture on a napkin. So they agree to a picture. They find the owner to return the money and the talking knapsack- the owner is pretty pleased with the picture though and keeps it with him.

For your (only just) success, you get $2000 and a Loungefly bag of your choice. In a week they will notice off-design pictures of Paisley dotted around online selling for ridiculous figures. It's fine. Don't worry about it.

The mission seems to start off pretty well. Jonathan is popular with the kids and there's enough artefact history to fill Fireren's nerdy little heart with joy for hours. It's just a shame that they don't have hours. The artefact unfortunately doesn't ping Jonathan's Hamon. The kids drag the pair around all the exhibits- taking full advantage of Jonathan being polite and wanting to learn everything from Frieren. By the time the pair get away from the kids, they find the artefact has been stolen by the diorama cowboys and Romans. They want it as a wedding gift for their respective leaders - and are not for giving it up. You would think teeny tiny people would be easy to fight, but they definitely are not. It's hard to hit something so small and fast when you're primed to battle... well, people-sized beings. At some point, Jonathan will find himself tied to the little model railway line to be threatened with a train (hilariously, regardless of if he is in human or bat form, they don't seem to grasp how little of a threat this actually is) while they pelt Frieren with tiny burning ballista. Eventually, they are both captured and put in a corner where they can watch the weird little marriage between the cowboy and the Roman diorama people. The teachers will find them later, and are definitely unimpressed by this story of crazy little people and the love between a cowboy and a Roman. The pair might have lost, but love won and doesn't that matter more?

For your failure, you get A sticker that says "you tried" and one of those sticky slappy hand things.

Relevant Skills: Ritsuka has the absurd level sense of smell for sniffing out those pungent scents, at least a little experience foraging/looking for strange things, +1 luck, and a grass-type pokemon (Leafeon) which maybe can help because plants. Oh, and a willingness to possibly taste test in a pinch.

Yasuho has a fair amount of experience foraging in the spirit realm (albeit in Hyrule), most definitely did as much pepper research as she could before setting off, and has been studying all the pokemon-related stuff that's been posted to the network. She also has the +2 luck bringer that could help Ritsuka's part of the search.

Both of them have animal love, which should hopefully help keep hostile pokemon encounters at bay! If not Yasuho has been practicing her sword skills and Ritsuka has illusion and teleportation magic for quick escapes.

Anything else?: Both of them are light element so. While Yasuho is VERY determined to try to prove herself after the fiasco last November she's also feeling just kinda in a crummy mood overall, and Ritsuka's just plain having a harder time using her powers than usual.

Also, if Ritsuka eats a pepper would she see one of the fiery apocalypses (yes, plural) she's already experienced or does she get yet another new timeline to witness inquiring minds want to know

MISSION: PASSING

The pair set off bravely into the Kanto realm in search of their firey quarry. Using their luck and sense of smell, they find their quarry easily. At some point, they run into a couple of Growlithe- who seem to be pretty natural towards them. They are lounging in the bush the peppers are growing in, though, and once the girls make a grab, bounce about the pair, trying to wrestle them, thinking it's a game! The girls eventually manage to roll the pokemon off the bush and end up with some pretty squished peppers. Their next location has some battle Charmeleon in it. They can use their sword and teleporting skills to avoid being too burned in the fight- again they manage to rescue some peppers from the area. They're a little charred, but it's fine, they can scrape it off! Finally they find a bush with some Larvesta eating more peppers again. One of is able to run distraction while the other saves what few (slightly chewed) peppers there are left. They take their pretty bedraggled prize back to Guy Fiery, who is admittedly not impressed by the state of the food, but they did follow the assignment, so he guesses it will count as a win.

For your (just about) success you get $5000, and two free meal vouchers at Wanmin Restaurant.. Should Ritsuka eat a pepper, she will see visions of a fiery apocalypse she has already seen for fun!

Finally, while you didn't roll a 1 this time, please understand that in cases where a 1 is rolled (aka a Nat 1) - bad luck results will happen regardless of any luck perks someone has (just like a nat 20 will overrule any misfortune debuffs characters have). This is in order to keep an element of surprise to all the sidequests. Please keep that in mind in the future!

Viv - Has enhanced strength, speed, and stamina. Is incredibly stretchy, great for shoving rats at a distance. Also has the Magic Clothes ability- anything she wears stretches with her.

Jonathan - Will be shapeshifted into human guise to wear the costume- thus has above average (but human) level strength, speed, stamina, given his figure. Equipped with his Soul Device, and his hoverboard, which hovers up to 5 feet off the ground. Additionally has low level 'Sturdy', and 'Inspiration'

Anything else?: Jonathan in particular has prior experience with Scooby-Doo nonsense thanks to AU-JJBA nonsense, and Daybreak's regular nonsense as well. If he needs, he'll try carrying Viv with him on the hoverboard for a faster get-away. (Unless it doesn't carry their weight. Then he's just turning back into a bat and letting Viv haul ass with the board.)

On Viv's end, she sounds less than enthused at all times, so that might work against them.

MISSION: FAILURE

The pair don their ridiculous mascot costumes and with their giant wheel of cheese, they head out to Undertown to flog Fantasy Costco's wares. The dire rats are soon to follow, and so the pair have to pick up the pace, yelling about the deals the whole time, obviously. The hoverboard comes in handy, it gives them a chance to at least hover above the rats... a little, up until the point they try to hoverboard over a fountain- shame they don't work on water- as the hoverboard stops dead, the pair are thrown off it into a vendors cart of cabbages. They're quick to escape the swarm of rats, hearing only "my cabbages!!! as they go. They turn another loop and come across a group of puca trying to put up some Pride banners to give the place a little colour. Viv tries to stretch herself around it to avoid the obstacle, while Jonathan turns bat to flit around it. While they manage to save themselves from getting tangled, the wheel of cheese is less lucky. The puca are really unhappy with this, and are LESS happy when the rats descend on them. Now being cashed by the puca, the pair decide to fight. They manage to hold off the puca for a while, but unfortunately, the rats chew through the Pride banners, releasing the giant wheel of cheese which inevitably hits them like a bowling ball. The cheese now leaving a pretty solid hole in one of Undertown's walls (what is it MADE of?) and an increased number of angry Undertown residents means Jonathan and Viv decide to beat a hasty retreat back to the surface, the whole mission an abject failure.

For your failure, your favourite pair of pants or robes now have a giant hole in the rear, but you escape alive. This time.

Relevant Skills: Wei Wuxian frequents Ghost City and already told Hua Cheng he’d help with the efforts to protect and evacuate. He’s probably well known even among the more rancid parts of it. If not especially. In general he also just has VERY high charisma. Noct isn’t as well known but both he and Wei Wuxian have Chronic RPG Protagonist syndrome and will take any and all quests to their full completion even if they’re super mundane. If for some reason combat becomes necessary they’re both more than capable and able to heal. Noct also has warping for easy transportation of Things and Stuff but can’t get too close to water or else he’ll become a seal.
Anything else?: Wei Wuxian is still very annoying so just as many ghosts might wanna throw him as wanna accept his help. They’re getting his help no matter what the result.

There are a few leftover ghosts who need encouraging to evacuate Ghost City, and this pair are up for the task! The first is a rather creepy set of twin girls who keep asking the Wei Wuxian and Notcis to play with them. In unison. They are pretty unnerving but after a game of hide-and-seek (the girls lose, they're just- they're just standing there) the twins head off to the waiting ship. The next set of ghosts are an elderly couple in Victorian garb. One of them recognises Wei Wuxian and talks his ear off, while the other also does and spends her entire them bitching about him to Noctis- how he is the most obnoxious person alive and she doesn't know why her wife like him so much. The pair bicker plenty about Wei Wuxian's charms (or lack thereof) while they are helped with their luggage to the waiting ship. Finally, they must help a man find his lost ghost dog- who is trying to fight the Terrible Geese. It will take some effort on their part to tempt the dog away from a fight it can never win but also not get murdered by the geese themselves. There's a chance Noct will end up knocked into the pond here- if you wish to add seal chaos into the mix. Regardless, they manage to get their wayward ghosts into the ship and can be glad for making their afterlives a little safer.

For your victory, you get $5000 in pure cash, no questions asked, as well as a Greater Potion of Invisibility that lasts for 30 minutes.

Quest Name: Closing Time
Relevant Skills: Sampo has the ability to shapeshift into anything horse-sized or smaller, can make people pass out cold, and has extremely high stealth skills. He also has extremely high charisma and is a fast-talking swindler, and charmer. Husk has a number of water abilities, is extremely good at gambling and card games. Flight + his knife cards.
Anything else?: Husk has a -4, but Sampo has a +4, so it evens out. Sampo also has been regularly working on and off for Hua Cheng and Ghost City for years, so he has a lot of experience dealing with with the residents--even likely knowing a few personally. Husk is in this same boat, he also knows Hua Cheng and has dealings in Ghost City for a long time.

MISSION: D- IS PASSING

One would think that their luck would cancel each other out, but the forces that Be seem to make Husk and Sampo work for it. One blessing, at least, is that the Ghost King opts to deal with them directly. He welcomes them in, gives them some snacks (he doesn't have favorites, shut up) and then assigns them some of the remaining cases. And he gives a request phrased like a warning: take care of my people. Well, that would be easy if not for the fact that the first guy is a man with a donkey head. (Don't you dare call him an ass.) He's extremely loyal to Ghost City and keeps sobbing big ugly tears every time they try to help him move his belongings onto his cart. Just when it appears the house is empty and this exhausting chore is done, the donkey man sits down and starts his depressive spiral once again: "what is it all for? What's the point? What if I don't come back? What if..." Between Sampo and Husk they're able to talk some sense into him, or at least convince him to be less of an... obstacle, so that's one guy on the boat out. The second person you are asked to look into appears to be a very short old lady with little bat wings on her shoulders. The first thing she does is start berating you and her neighbors and the Ghost King himself (he's not even there!) for butting into her business and forcing a lady to hurry. As it turns out, she's extremely concerned about her shirtless hot man figure collection and has been trying to pack them delicately so they aren't smashed in transition. This is a problem easily fixed with enough bubble wrap, just don't stare too long at the goods. Unfortunately, naughty shirtless Sephiroth has to be taken apart and packed in pieces by hand and it takes a while, and you're also not sure that his hand is supposed to come off but it's too late to ask now. Since neither Sampo nor Husk have any pride to speak of, they do manage to help this lady finish packing up her precious animu figures and get them loaded onto the boat. The last person they're asked to help is an 8 foot werewolf who is absolutely terrified of boats. He keeps clinging to Husk or Sampo, whoever is nearest, in a white-knuckled panic whenever he sees the ship. There is nothing you can do for him except strategize against those dog instincts. Somehow Sampo and Husk manage to wrestle him onto the boat figuratively or literally, and the poor guy is traumatized, but hey. A success is a success, even if it isn't a graceful victory.

For their unconventional partnership, they receive $5000 in pure cash, no questions asked, as well as a Greater Potion of Invisibility that lasts for 30 minutes. As a reward for being part of the Ghost City faction, they get a bonus Greater Potion of Healing that heals severe wounds one time.

Quest Name: Berry Simple
Relevant Skills: Veldora is a DRAGON, with everything that comes with that. He can transform and fly, and has several very strong magic abilities, and adept fighting skills. He's also used to the outdoors and places like treacherous mountains and forests. Wriothesley, while less of an outdoorsman, is a very adept fighter and with his mix of Cryo magic and Kaisou magic, is equipped both hot and cold temperatures. He can turn into a hellhound, as well.
Anything else?: both are really friendly people who would likely try to befriend the pokemon before fighting them.

MISSION: PASSING

It's a pretty steep and arduous climb for Vel and Wiro's Berry Quest. Early on in the climb, they are accosted by a pair of Pawmi- while the critters are down for a fight, the pair manage to calm them down and befriend them by giving up some berries they've already found. A few berries lighter, Vel and Wrio carry on upwards- and eventually run into a gang of punk teenagers on a quest to become POKEMON MASTERS. Clearly, fighting two adult men just going about their business is a perfect way to do that, so they attack with their team of a Mudbray, Lickitung and Grookey. Unfortunately, this time Wiro and Vel really do have to do battle- the teenagers won't listen to reason at all. At some point in the battle, they both transform because that's the best chance they have here- and the kid's minds are blown. They've seen people fight with pokemon before, but never seen anyone turn INTO Pokemon!!! They have no reference for creatures who aren't Pokemon, after all- obviously these random adults figured out how to turn themselves into super unique Pokemon!! Veldora and Wirothesley manage to beat the kid's Pokemon- and then are pestered by the teenagers for the next hour who refuse to believe anything other than the men's magical Pokemon abilities. By the time the kids leave, it's getting late. Wiro and Vel only have enough berries for one cooling potion which isn't exactly what the alchemist wanted but he guesses it's better than nothing. They did still kind-of complete the assignment.

For your (barely) victory, you get $800 and a moderate healing potion (can heal moderate injuries on themselves or other people, 1 use). There is also a 50/50 chance that Veldora and Wirothesley will be accosted by the same punk teenagers for a rematch (and to tell them HOW THEY TURN INTO POKEMON) every time they go back to Kanto.
