What are Side Quests and how do they work?
Side Quests are optional missions/jobs that are posted on the Libra Network each month for characters to do. New quests will appear every month around the same time as the OOC plotting post (so about the 28th), but ICly will appear on the app on the 1st of the month.

Players will sign up their characters to do particular quests, either by themselves or with a group. During the sign up, players will give information on how well a character would do on a particular quest (for example: if an illiterate character was asked to read some books to children, you should mention that they can't read). With this information factored in, the mod helper will respond with roughly how smoothly the quest will turn out based on a combination of your characters skills and RNG.

From there, players are free to play out or handwave the side quests as they wish! While we ask that players sign up for quests that are happening in the current month, players can backdate quest threads as much to your liking.

There is no limit to how many characters can be part of a single quest group. You can do quests by yourself, or have a raid party of 30 characters.

You can sign up for as many group quests (2 or more characters) as you like. While you can sign up for a solo quest, they are currently restricted to one per month per character.

Are there Rewards?
Each quest will have IC rewards for characters that vary depending on the quest and how well the characters do.

On the OOC end, turning in quest threads that have at least 3 comments from your character will earn you 1 free gacha point. The quest doesn't need to be completed, it just needs to have at least three comments from your character in order to be eligible. While you can sign up for as many group quests as you like in a month, you can only redeem up to 3 gacha points per month. Threads for quests from previous months can be redeemed as well, but it'd count towards the quest turn-ins for the current month. In group quests, when redeeming gacha points, please be sure that each player who wishes to redeem the thread for a gacha roll comments individually so we can keep track of individual free gacha totals.

Quest Name: Paranormal Slacktivity
Relevant Skills: Nick is experienced at dealing with ghosts and exorcising them, since he's a paranormal investigator, but no so much talking to them, since he usually just needs to exorcise them for his contract price. Jane is pretty good at cleaning and not particularly good at exorcism stuff, but also is very sweet so she would probably try and persuade the ghost to leave!

At first, the fraternity were very suspicious of these loser nerds showing up at their door. They're rather taken with "Book Girl" because while she is also a nerd she is not a loser due to the fact she knows how to fluff their egos, the thing all cats truly desire,! Luckily, the fact Elliot is one of their own really does help matters and they probably try to initiate him as an honorary member. They allow Elliot and Stede to come to one party to prove themselves. Naturally, Stede's bear makes for one HELL of a party piece. The catbros are delighted by this and the whole evening is built around party games involving the bear- daring each other to put a hat on the bear, seeing what the bear will eat (everything, it's a bear), dancing with the bear, fighting with the bear. It's a TRULY insane party that goes down in frathouse history - Elliot and Stede managed to evade the police when they inevitably show up to shut it down. Though they will need to pony up some bail money for the bear. The poor "kidnapped" student agrees to tell her father what's been going on. Given how good her grades are from this madness, her father allows her to continue, though he does demand she carries silver with her from now on- just in case.

For their victory, Elliot and Stede get $150 each and an EXTREMELY potent catnip toy. When Elliot stops being drugged out of his head with that, the werecat fraternity will occasionally invite both Elliot and Stede to their parties- under the strict understanding that they have to bring the paaaarttttyyy beaaaaar whenever they show up.

The cleaning starts off pretty well. Jane getting the elbow grease out and starting the work, with Nick putting his expertise to good use to figure out what's up with these ghosts- they would be forgiven for thinking they had this in the bag. Unfortunately, Nick's poor luck quickly turns against them. Everything starts moving and it seems the ghost involved wants nothing to do with Jane's pleas for peace. At one point, it starts coming out of the TV, clearly attempting to be creepy like in That Movie With The Shape In The Title. Unfortunately, this particular ghost is pretty clumsy and makes a botch job of it, pulling the whole TV down and leaving a huge crack in the centre of it. Nick manages to exorcise this clumsy spirit and they're able to get the rest of the house tidied up. Richard Richard is glad his home is clean and no longer haunted, but he's pretty distraught about the TV - he was planning on binge-watching Octopus Contest that night!

For getting through this by the skin of their teeth, Nick and Jane get $200 and a gift card for one meal for two people at a fancy steakhouse. Unfortunately, most of their $200 will have to go towards buying Richard Richard a new TV. Them's the (literal) breaks.

Quest Name: Luck of the Fey
Relevant Skills: Jamie- Experienced newshound investigator, with an eye for detail and good gathering ability. Minor water control.
Suzume- Is 6 (fits into small spaces, notices different things), has wings, 1.5 speed, and enhanced smell.
+ 'Hoshi' (Suzume's invisible/inaudible Stand) has- Super speed/sight, an adult human's common sense + strength.
Anything else?: Last time faeries were involved, they were pretty excited about having a friendly baby available, so hopefully that helps instead of hinders.

Jamie and Suzume have a pretty good go on the scavenger hunt. Having Hoshi around helped as this meant they had something that could move ahead of them and report back to Suzume any clues that it might have found. Between this and Jamie's experience as an investigator, they were able to head off in the general area where the medallion was hidden. At one point they did get turned around and got themselves stuck in the same circle of buildings for a solid 40 minutes- this was largely due to one of the Undertown residents seeing a potential threat and promising them that they knew a "shortcut" while promising the buildings they were around for SURE weren't the same ones they just passed- she promised. Eventually, they figured out the ruse and got back on track. It still took them a few hours (this wasn't a runaway success, after all) but they managed to avoid the cursed medallion and pick up the correct one! They were crowned the victors of the scavenger hunt and got bragging rights for the rest of the year.

For their success, they get $1000 between them and a medallion patch that can be sewn or ironed onto a jacket of your choice. The Undertown resident who was so "helpful" definitely tried to suggest she deserved a cut of the money- up to them if they give the shyster any cash or not.

Relevant Skills: Raha is ALSO a giant nerd about the paranormal, and would totally be on board with helping her with her research and getting Normie family off her back. He is actually very capable of lying through omission and technical truths with enough motivation and he is happy to help her craft something convincing enough to not raise suspicion. Rhel is again, huge nerd, and both of them are cat people! Which is different from being a werecat but close, maybe?
Anything else?: Ok we think we're going with 'ah yes she is researching the sociology of the structure of the fraternity', with a possible side of 'oh yes we are. helping. yes we are.'

Things go pretty badly for Jamie and Katsuki from the get-go. The areas they looked for snowberries were mostly barren- having been stripped either by competing alchemists or wild animals. At one of the bushes, they find a wild Bulbasaur chowing down. It is very unhappy with them coming to take its well-gotten loot and goes on the attack. They survive this encounter but end up with only a few smooshed berries for their endeavour. Along with them not being able to find holy water, they return to Yukiko Caldwell with very little to help. They are given a sarcastic thanks and advised to maybe try something more their speed next time. Like going to the local fruit vendors, or something.

For their failure, they get a used piece of gum in a wrapper. If you ate any berries, your tongue is now blue for two days and everything tastes like burnt toast.

Relevant Skills: Danny is a ghost. He can sense other ghosts, and can either communicate or fight with them. He does not have very much experience. Isabela has some cleaning capabilities, a keen eye for details, and the ability to try to stay calm under pressure.

Quest Name:Luck of the Fey
Relevant Skills: Varian can pick apart clues to try and find things and is also stubborn enough to not give up. unfortunately, his werewolf changes are getting stronger so there's a chance he'd get distracted by like...a squirrel. Danny is also stubborn, and won't give up on the search once they start. He can fly and walk through walls, which may be of some use during the search. He will try to keep Varian focused. Unfortunately he can no longer touch iron, which may be a problem in some hiding places.

Though Raha and Rhel are only cat people instead of werecats, the fraternity accepts them as their own. They both have to endure a lot of sniffing and gentle paps on the head at the start of the process, but the werecats are quick to let the two inside and into their territory. The researcher is delighted to have some help with her paper. Having extra (nerdy) hands on deck means that the work can go much more smoothly. After all, cats are cats and the werecats have a bad habit of wandering off into other rooms or choosing to do their socialising in an inconvenient place. Being able to split up the work means nothing is missed. Raha is able to spin a pretty convincing tale to the father, while Rhel can provide flow charts to back this up! He's blown away by his daughter's work and allows it to continue.

For their amazing victory, they each get $200 and an EXTREMELY potent catnip toy. Both Raha and Rhel get credited in the eventual paper that comes out of this. The once-worried father is so impressed by his daughter's grades that he does not question any further field studies, and even ends up befriending the werecats himself- he goes to their potluck every other Monday. Raha and Rhel will occasionally find "gifts" left for them outside their doors- cat toys, leaves, weirdly shaped rocks- the werecats show their gratitude in other ways, it turns out.

Danny and Isabela get to cleaning and everything seems to be going pretty well. The first few rooms are cleaned pretty spotlessly and it's only when they get to the library that things get a little...complicated. Books and expensive-looking vases start to float around the room- luckily Isabela is able to keep it together to catch anything breakable the ghost decides to throw while Danny tries to talk the ghost down. It turns out this ghost happens to be a teenage girl and as soon as she's aware that Danny is also a ghost she definitely starts to focus on him more. Danny will spend the rest of the time having things thrown "playfully" at his head, followed by ghostly giggling and being asked if he's dating anyone. At least while Danny is trying to deal with the ghost's advances, it means Isabela can get things cleaned pretty much undisturbed. She'll definitely have to try and help Danny escape afterwards, as the ghost will not be happy about him leaving! Save Danny please, Isa.

For their victory, they get $200 between them and a gift card for one meal for two people at a fancy steakhouse. Every once in a while, Danny's phone will act haywire and he'll get a message from an unknown number simply stating Call me ❤️ xoxo. Probably best he...ignores that.

Quest Name: S-nobody's business
Relevant Skills: Jun has connections to the church so obtaining holy water would be pretty easy for him. Claire is a bit of an overachiever and would attempt to gather way more berries than probably necessary. Past that I don't think they'd have any abilities that'd help them here.
Anything else?: The kids are trying their best which means probably taking a quest about gathering berries way too seriously.

Danny and Varian are not a bad team, but their detective skills could use some work. The riddles prove to be a little too esoteric, that or there has been some sabotage by others along the way, with things not where they are expected to be. They have some stiff competition, too: a team of tenacious thirteen year olds keep beating them to the next clue and making fun of them on TikTok. Along the way they have to contend with buckets of wet concrete falling from the sky, mud pits, grassy paths littered with dog poop bombs, a random roving band of silly string-squirting miscreants, and a guy with fart spray in an elevator (?). In the end it's a keen nose that leads them to the hiding place of the medallion, nestled near to a bakery and just waiting to be picked up. However, they set their eyes on it at the same time as another team (who are all unable to speak outside of rhyme) and end up having to race for it. Danny's ghost powers and Varian's ingenuity come in clutch and they're able to secure the prize; however, the rather large family that had been cheering on the other team becomes angry and gives chase, intending to steal the medallion for themselves or die trying. Eventually the Stone family gives up trying to find them and goes home, but They'll Remember This (Telltale style), as their winning streak ended with this unlikely loss.

For their efforts, Danny and Varian receive $1000 to be split between them however they see fit, as well as a memorial patch of a snowman with a spyglass to commemorate the event. Also, the next time they head to Blue Fish Park, they might get food or empty cans thrown at them from the still-resentful Stone family. Seems like the grudge runs deep. They will not be inviting either of the boys to their annual barbecue, seems like.

Quest Name: Paranormal Slacktivity
Relevant Skills: Both of them have magical sensing ability, so they should be able to perceive the ghost. Jun is also skilled at cleaning due to years of cleaning up after his human disaster father. Flat, well, he's got spirit.
Anything else?: Once they realize it's haunted, Flat will go get a creepy doll to bring to the house. He will attempt to convince the ghost to come live with him instead, as a ghost roommate seems like a great idea. Jun will do nothing to stop this.

Jun's connection to the church ends up pretty dang handy- it makes getting holy water a cakewalk. Sure, he ends up getting followed by Mrs Voorhees while he's in the church- though she's mostly busy asking him weirdly invasive questions about if there's any opening for a groundskeeper for her son (he's a real go-getter, can Jun put in a good word?) But once he's managed to get out of this awkward social situation, he and Ryoko can get to the important job of collecting snowberries. Overachievers that they are, they get onto gathering as many berries as they possibly can. They come across a troop of girl scouts who see Jun and Ryoko as a genuine threat to their berry-gathering venture. They start racing Jun and Ryoko to try and beat them to certain bushes, occasionally trying to throw sticks to trip them up and at one point trying to lead the Terrible Goose right at them. All with the determination of tweenage girls who have sighted An Enemy. Luckily, Jun and Ryoko end up being more determined and beat those kids at their own game, ending up with what could be considered an excessive amount of berries.

For their success, they get $250 and a potion that makes you temporarily more resistant to cold for 12 hours. They get to keep the metric ton of snowberries they collected. The alchemist points them toward a local bakery (with a good word) that will make them a delicious pie with their fruit of overachievement- free of charge! Thankfully, the resulting pie is delicious and does NOT taste of burnt toast. Later in the week, they each get a box of Thin Mints at their door which are empty of cookies but each have a mousetrap set up inside them if they just stick their hands right into the box. Looks like they have new enemies.

Their snooping skills do them pretty well in finding where the fraternity is hidden. They get there pretty easily. The werecats do not initially fear the gun (because cats fear nothing, silly humans) until Butch Paddypaws remembers their neighbour who shot a water gun at them when they tried to dig up his prize tulips. The werecat fraternity starts freaking out immediately, ears back, puffing themselves up big, walking sideways, the whole shebang. It really looks like Nick's poor luck (and Ryoko's decision to bring a gun into this madness) has completely screwed them over, but the researcher is pretty excited by this and starts scribbling notes furiously. She says she hasn't been able to study them in a stressful situation before because you just can get werecats to be bothered by just anything. It's only when Muffins Jones throws an entire ass table at them screaming that they won't get his head wet again that she agrees this might be a little too dangerous now and goes with them both back to her concerned father. She promises to never again get involved in potentially dangerous supernatural situations (she's lying, she's absolutely lying).

For their victory, they get $150 and an EXTREMELY potent catnip toy. The father si delighted to have his daughter back and it turns out that the paper she wrote got a pretty dang good grade! The werecats are less impressed and every full moon Nick and Ryoko will not be able to shake off the feeling that they're being watched. Sometimes they'll find a hairball in their shoes. How did it get in there? Who knows.

Jun and Flat get to cleaning the house and honestly, everything goes pretty smoothly. Nothing breaks, there are a few tough stains (what does this businessman DO? how do you get tapioca that high on the curtains?) and the vacuum sucks in one of the throws on a couch at one point- but they mitigate the disasters and get about halfway through the house when the spooky stuff starts. Things start getting moved around and with their magic sensing, they quickly find the root cause of it. The ghost is initially reluctant to listen to them. When Flat goes to get his doll, Jun will have to deal with the ghost throwing vases and other priceless artefacts at him while they wait- hope he's good at catching! Luckily, once Flat brings the doll and offers the ghost a new roomie, she's quickly swayed into going with him. After all, Richard Richard is BORING and Flat looks a lot more fun! She hops into the doll and Richard Richard is very happy that she's gone. He promises he'll recommend Jun and Flat to others who might have ghostly problems of their own.

For their success, they get $200 each and a gift card for one meal for two people at a fancy steakhouse. Flat also gets a super fun haunted doll, which will definitely move his stuff around on a daily basis for funsies. But she also leaves him positive affirmations in the bathroom mirror. Things like "go get them, tiger" or "embrace the glorious mess that you are". She's very supportive! Jun gets to not have a ghost living with him.

Character(s) Involved: Gwayne Bellveil and Takame Kesi
Quest Name: We Didn't Start the Fire
Relevant Skills: Gwayne is a genuine extrovert who is very good at talking to people, and fairly observant as he is. Takame is pretend-extrovert and quiet, but skilled in stealth. Both of them are veteran fighters. That being said, poor Takame does have mild asthma, and they're both incredibly bad at saying no to someone needing help. They'll look deep as they can into the source of the magical fire and confront the people mistreating the salamanders. Ultimately, it's the person being irresponsible with the fire salamanders that they'll hold responsible for endangering so many people's lives (and the beloved pizza place), and aren't above knocking the person/people senseless if they try anything funny.

Character(s) Involved: Nick & Crito
Quest Name: We Didn’t Start the Fire
Relevant Skills: These two have…an interesting three step plan. Step 1, go to Undertown and find some magic/potions/etc. they can use to put out the fire (Nick has a few connections from frequenting the shops often for his exorcism materials). Step 2, once they track down the guy, use Crito’s Model Train Inventory to set up a slow looping train full of worms and other tasty treats around the area they believe to have the most salamanders to lure them out and round them up. Step 3, once things have (hopefully) been handled, confront the guy responsible and try and “encourage” them to pay for the damages done to the pizza place. (By encourage they mean threaten with the salamanders, themselves.)

Nick and Crito both have magical detection abilities. Crito also has the ability to hear things on the wind, so hopefully that should be helpful in tracking down the little beasties!

Anything else?: ~~CLICKTY CLACK DOWN THE TRACK COMES LOTS AND LOTS OF TRAINS~~ Nick has the -1 luck debuff!

Gwayne and Takame make pretty good amateur detectives. Maybe it's because of all the time they've spent solving problems that other people have started. Though they don't help with the recurring fires, they are able to find some clues in the burned out areas of the shop that lead them to believe something more serious lies beneath the surface.The duo uncover not only an illegal fire salamander breeding facility, but documents indicating that this has been going on for some time as a thriving black market business spanning both the surface and Undertown. After dodging some of the more insidious magical traps, including a ballista full of the hottest hot sauce in Kaisou aimed directly at their faces and some fire-aspected imps for security detail, they settle down to work. They're able to capture the salamanders and turn them over to the magical authorities who are able to rehome them in various ways (including a supernatural rehab facility, wow!) and restore order to the area. With their muscle they're even able to get some of the breeders involved arrested... but the ringleader is nowhere to be found. Still, it's a resounding success, and if the mastermind wants to continue his cruel work they'll have to start over, so they likely won't be seen again for a while.

For their efforts, Gwayne and Takame receive $300 to be split as they see fit and a coupon for 20% off pizza at the establishment for THREE MONTHS. This is a great deal! Also, due to the difficulty of finding homes for salamanders, one or both of them can take home a salamander as a pet since they can't be released into the wild. (The salamander will have its fire glands humanely removed though. It's for safety reasons.)

Nick and Crito have a plan, and they're able to execute that plan, even if it isn't completely flawless. Thanks to Nick's connections they're able to procure enough frostbreath elixir to put out the fire, though upon hearing of the situation, the alchemist selling them the reagents says that multiple fires in a short span of time is very unusual for the area... especially magical fires! After that encouragement to look further, they're allowed into the stabilized but still-smoldering shop to search for clues. In a back room they find what they're looking for: an entirely hidden passage to a basement beneath the entire property. Unfortunately, it's loaded with magical traps... but more fortunately, they are both able to detect magic, so they know that traps are coming. The security runes throw literal fire at them (hope you have some leftover potions) as well as knee-high goblins that will not hesitate to pants anyone they can get close to, though there's nothing too dangerous. Some collateral damage is to be expected with all that fire being thrown around, though. Once the threats are dealt with, the remaining paperwork and tax returns (because even a criminal ought to do their taxes) point to one of the managers of the pizza place as the ringleader. After setting their trap and doing a bit of cartoonish chasing, Nick and Crito are able to round up the escaped fire salamanders in a fireproof glass container. The morality of this is a bit dubious, but it's for a good cause... and it's only temporary, hopefully. Using their abilities they find the mad manager trying to grab his money and run, and they pin him down; at first he doesn't see the fire salamanders as an active threat but then they start escaping from the box and setting his clothes on fire so he reconsiders his life choices and gives up. Yay!

For their efforts in not only stopping the fires, but securing the source of them and bringing the "arsonist" to justice, Nick and Crito receive $300 to be split however they see fit, as well as a 20% discount pizza coupon at the establishment when it reopens in a couple weeks. It's good for three months, too! The salamanders are given new homes, some being sold in Undertown as licensed pets, and others as part of a supernatural wildlife rehabilitation center. A few are also cut loose to run amongst the freakier wild animals in the state park but who's counting. Due to the difficulty of finding homes for all of the salamanders, Nick and/or Crito can take home a salamander as a pet since they can't be released into the wild, if they like. (The salamander will have its fire glands humanely removed though. It's for safety reasons.)

Sometimes, stories can become larger than life. Due to the creativity and thoroughness used in solving this quest, your characters have been granted titles.

Nick will be known in certain circles as "Nick the Flame-Tamer"!

Crito will be known in certain circles as "Crito, Conductor of Chaos"!

They may be recognized by NPCs in certain areas (Undertown, Spirit Realm occupants, some factions, etc.) who have heard of their deeds. These titles also come with the perk "10% off all pizza". (Unlike the coupon, this has no expiration or limitations.) While you can earn multiple titles, you can only have one perk active at a time.
