THIS IS AN OLD POST. IF YOU WISH TO SEE THE CURRENT APP PAGE, PLEASE GO HERE.

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

To see the previous app page, you can find it here.

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on the first and third weekend of the month, ending at 6pm EST on Sundays (so if you submit an app at 9pm on Sunday it won't get read until the following relevant weekend). Please check the calendar to see when apps will be processed next.

To join the game, you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. To invite someone, have the person apping list the name of the person inviting them, and then the inviter should comment to their app confirming the invite. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two app processing weekends of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. Sometimes revisions will be requested if there is a need to fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player/cast cap?
There are a couple caps! The first cap ia an overall player cap. Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

The second cap is on the number of players with an OU (original universe) character. To make sure OU characters do not dominate the game, there is a current limit of 35 OU players. At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open so new players get a chance to app an OU. Finally, to keep one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is an OU cast cap of 6 OU characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

PLAYER SLOTS: 33/75 filled.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 14/35 filled.

Casts near or at Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 4/6, NEAR CAP

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is an overall OU player cap as mentioned above. As of September 2023, you may only play 2 characters from the same canon.

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a third character). This wait time applies even if you drop a character.

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
At this time, brand new players have the option of choosing between Normal AU, Paranormal AU, and Original Universe. Players who have been in the game at least 3 months also get the option of apping characters from the Black Order or POKEGO factions. Details for each category are below:

Normal Modern AUs
Normals AU are exactly what it says on the tin: they're normal people. These characters have lived entirely normal lives on modern day Earth. Up until the day they joined the Libra app (aka when they join the game), they've been completely oblivious to anything strange about the world. Even if something paranormal-related did happen to them, their memories remember it as a more mundane event (for example if they got attacked by a monster, they'll remember it as a dog attack) - and it's only once they join the app may they remember how those events occurred. For the most part, their AU backstory should consist of things that could reasonably happen in a modern day Earth setting.

Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick two free regains (canon regain or an elemental power) that can be worth up to 3 points each. These regains will ICly come into effect after they join the game.

Paranormal Modern AUs
Paranormal AU characters are characters who also grew up in modern day Earth, but have experienced supernatural occurrences throughout their lives. Their experiences with the supernatural can vary wildly as long as it fits into the setting of Kaisou. Maybe they've been raised by a family aware of the supernatural, or they started as normal people and ended up crossing paths with the paranormal at some point in their lives. They may even be involved with a player-run faction (aka any faction that's not Zodiac, Black Order or POKEGO), or a new faction that you made up yourself!

These characters will get 6 extra points to be spent on elemental powers (aka Kaisou original powers) they obtained during their AU backstory. These points cannot be used for canon regains (though you are welcomed to purchase elemental powers that are similar to their canon powers, or pick something entirely new!). These points can be used for monster traits, but you need to include some explanation for why they are a monster (were they cursed? An experiment? Are their parent a monsterfucker?) and they will need to be at least half-human.

Paranormal characters can also be possessed. You can read more information about on the possesion info page.

Original Universe
Original Universe characters hail from their original world and find themselves arriving into this world through the Spirit Realm. They will not lose any memories of their canon lives, and are allowed to have any items that they could reasonably carry on their persons upon arrival without any enchantments (in other words, no cheating with a mary poppins bag). If they were carrying a magical bag, the bag will split open in the Spirit Realm and all the contents will come spilling out on the ground, forcing your character to grab only what they can carry.

Power wise, OUs can do one of the following options for their retained options. Feel free to consult the regain page for clarity on the point values.
  • 3 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 1-point regain (very low level power)
  • 2 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 2-point regain (medium level power)
  • 1 ability that has the power equivalent of a 3-point regain (advanced level power)

Retained abilities can apply to any magical items they have with them EXCEPT for anything that'd increase their inventory or would be considered otherwise gamebreaking. Any other abilities or items that don't have their powers retained will be completely depowered and will require regain points to gain back.

Black Order/POKEGO AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months

As of April 2023, players are limited to only have ONE character from each faction at a time (meaning you can have one Black Order member and one POKEGO character, but not more than one in each faction)
.

Black Order/POKEGO characters are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. However, unlike the other AU types who only begin regaining canon memories once they join the game, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities at an earlier point in their life - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident. Sometime shortly after they began remembering their past lives, they were approached by one of two factions:

THE BLACK ORDER: A secretive group devoted to protecting and preserving the Spirit Realm, particularly any realms that are considered sacred, by dispatching agents known as "Guardians" to manage supernatural incidents of note. While it varies from member to member, the Black Order aren't exactly known for being a chill group. Some Guardians join willingly while others were "strongly persuaded" to join. While you don't need to be religious to be part of the Black Order nor does it adhere to a particular religion, it is said to be funded by numerous religious denominations around the world. Thanks to that, Black Order Guardians will enjoy free housing (within reason, no mansions) and a comfortable salary to live on - though some may get a daytime job/go to school to keep up a persona. The Black Order itself is run by a mysterious council of leaders, who give orders to their Guardians to fulfill. Thanks to the constant unusual activity in Kaisou, they have decided to send members to Kaisou and join the app in order to investigate what's going on.

POKEGO: A group devoted to the research and understanding of the Spirit Realm. All in all, they tend to be less hardcore than the Black Order and all members join willingly, though sometimes it's by means as a way to avoid joining the Black Order. POKEGO is less structured than the Black Order, with the group actually being made up of several different cohorts that focus on different areas of study related to the Spirit Realm (such as flora, fauna, gate locations, gods, etc etc). For a long time they held a positive reputation in paranormal circles, but that recently took a serious hit thanks to Professor Willow and his faction's deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of sponsors (including Zodiac) have pulled out and funding has really dried up. This means POKEGO researchers will have to find their own housing and find ways to make ends meet (in other words, you're broke). These days, the remaining members of POKEGO are working towards rebuilding their organization and repairing the bridges that have been burned.

Characters apped will either be in the role of Black Order Guardian or POKEGO Researcher that's been sent to Kaisou to help investigate the situation, and will join the Libra app in the spirit of cooperation with Zodiac (and to keep an eye on everyone). It's up to you if the character had already lived in Kaisou for some time, or is completely new in town. While both of these groups are made up of people who remember their past lives, before the events of Kaisou it was well understood among these group that regaining past memories was an extremely rare occurrence (like 1 in a few million rare), that memories of their past lives were to be kept hush-hush from outsiders - and anyone who refused to comply with the rules would have their past memories erased and powers sealed. So some may not be entirely sure how to feel about these Zodiac app users that have a lot less rules to follow. Typically POKEGO/Black Order characters should be at least 16 years of age. If you wish to app a younger one, they will be considered a trainee and special accommodations will need to be made (aka you need to talk to the mod about it).

Due to their special situations, Black Order/POKEGO characters can start with 16 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 6 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Black Order/POKEGO characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

As of April 2023, POKEGO characters will be allowed 1 free pokemon that's up to horse size (and isn't a legendary) upon apping. This Pokemon will be completely depowered, but for 1 point you can unlock up to 4 of the abilities that are available for the Pokemon at Level 1 in the games. Any abilities beyond that would cost the same rates as if those abilities were on a player character. Additional pokemon would cost the same rate as a magical animal companion (aka based on size and they'd start with their level 1 abilities).

FINALLY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THEIR FACTION'S REPUTATION, BLACK ORDER AND POKEGO CHARACTERS (ESPECIALLY POKEGO) ARE LIKELY TO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF NEGATIVE CR FROM OTHER CHARACTERS EARLY ON. Please be prepared to deal with this should you choose to app from these factions. Even if your character is a nice person, they will likely have to work extra hard to gain the trust of those around them.

Veldora Tempest / That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Player Name: Jackals
Contact: gmail: tothejackals, journal DM, discord: tothejackals
Invited by: i live in the doorway and harass passersby for fish
Other Characters: Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Gilgamesh

Character Name: Veldora Tempest
Canon: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime!
Canon Point: the end of season 2 of the anime / beginning of the Eight Star Demon Lords Arc
Age: over 2,000 years old
Birthday: give him the January 1st treatment
History: wiki rule

Personality:
+ curious; the driving force and factor. Veldora loves to learn new things and have fun experiences, he's the type to stick his nose all over the place searching for novel things. he's a voracious reader and likes to get himself into new situations (it's just where he comes from and his previous powerlevel usually made that mean that somebody's town was getting leveled. probably a vampire's. what was her name again?)
+ boisterous; life is a cornucopia of stuff to do and Veldora wants nothing more than to run at it pell-mell and see what happens next. he's happy to do some thinking, but he's mostly going to get to the doing as fast as possible because he's a good man, but a rowdy idiot.
+ easy-going; his self-esteem is impeccable (and we don't need to look at what's behind the curtain at all on that) and therefore most of life's problems roll right off of Veldora's back, leaving him surprisingly chill to be around when he's not Bored. he likes people and values being a protector and helping his friend(s) excel in their lives.
+ loyal; speaking of friend(s), Veldora values Rimuru Tempest and his vassals above all else. he's a protector and treasures their companionship, and anyone that earns his favor will find that they have a very exuberant wrecking ball of a man ready to do things that land you both in prison at a moment's notice. he's a ride or die.
+ perceptive; going hand in hand with his curiosity, Veldora started life with the Unique Skill: Investigator. he's always hungry for new knowledge and enjoys working on problems.
+/- loud; some people are born with the dial set to 10, and Veldora cranked his to 12. on one hand, it's a bit of a front; there's a part of Veldora that's actually shy and incredibly socially awkward because it's hard to have friends when you're a bulldozer in a field of tomato plants and the other bulldozers are bigger than you and tend to run you over whenever you challenge them to a bulldozer fight, leaving you with a fear of your fellow bulldozers that'd be a lot to unpack in therapy if only your medieval RPG setting had therapists. he hides this part under a loud veneer of strength, pride, and general enthusiasm for life and all its little curiosities. Veldora is here to be chaotic noise and have the best possible time during it.
- destructive; while Veldora is basically classified as an act of God (a Calamity-level monster) in his world, it's not that he revels in hurting people and destroying their property. he's more akin to a husky puppy left unattended for 10 minutes; if he's not occupied with reading or getting himself Into Interesting Scenarios he's getting antsy, and if he gets to antsy, the best way he knows how to work it off is to go raise cain and shit gets broken when a big-ass dragon goes out for a rager. he's not malicious about it, he's just a Great Dane in a tinyhome trying to find a ball.
- restless; going hand in hand with the above bulletpoint, if Veldora's not doing something, he's trying to find something to occupy his time with, otherwise he starts getting the itch to manifest violent storms and causing problems on purpose.
- childish; he's the youngest of four siblings, and technically the least established out of all of them. there's an immaturity in the way that he does things and relates to the world; he's very much the shonen hero of his heart even if that means the people around him are left diving out of his way in the wake of him doing whatever squirrely thing's crawled up his brainstem for the day. he has no tact and minimal social awareness and can be cowed if somebody's stern enough with him, which, again, no therapists in medieval isekai so we won't unpack all of that.
- himbo; pure of heart, thick of ass, dumb of head. Veldora means well and wants to do right by the people he treasures most, but he's a machine-gun at a paintball rifle fight. he goes based on his gut and has the best of intentions, but for all his love of digging into things and learning about them, he's still a dumb rowdy idiot who's going to ask question as he's already up to his neck in whatever the issue is. he will muck his way into a situation and muck his way back out, especially considering that Rimuru Tempest is 85% of his impulse control, and he's still got the secret elevated cheat code of being small enough that no one realizes he's coming still in effect.
- weeb; look I don't know how to tell you this but while he was living inside of his best friend from modern Japan's stomach, he read all of the manga that Rimuru had read in his 40 year old normal human man life inside of his memories and came away with a love of manga. he calls them 'sacred texts'. he uses Street Fighter moves and the Kamehameha in a fight at least once. what a fucking dork.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: whenever the app is processed, likely after the Azdaha fight's gone down ICly

Labyrinth ideas: the worst part of Veldora's life was that time where he was sealed alone in a cave with basic RPG monsters, magic rocks, and plants and left to slowly die over the course of hundreds of years so. could also go in the direction of the city Veldora's BFF made being attacked again and destroyed?
Items: clothes, the complete edition of the Street Fighter II manga, a volume of the Dragon Ball Z manga, Komi-san Can't Communicate vol. 1
Retained Abilities: so imma be real with you since slime anime is an 'this is basically an RPG' isekai the abilities can get super busted but i am super happy to nerf them down to things that're good for Kaisou

+ Ultimate Skill: Faust: with only the analytical appraisal function unlocked; essentially acting as Magic Detection (High)

Frieren | Frieren: Beyond Journey's End | Paranormal AU

[personal profile] beyondtheend 2023-11-17 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Jade
Contact: bronnichiwa @ discord
Invited by: it's meeeeee
Other Characters: Rose, Ei Inazuma, Kafka

Character Name: Frieren
Canon: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Canon History: Here! She had friends and they all died, so now she takes care of their proteges. That's it, that's the series.

Canon Personality: Frieren comes off as extremely cold at first. This is to be expected, she's an elf, after all--and as a species, their emotions tend to be muted. She experiences time differently than those around her, and it's extremely evident. While the others in her party talk about how long their journey was, to her it was a mere ten years--hardly any time at all. She's not an extremely sentimental person; when offered the chance to join in for a sunrise festival, for example, she doesn't see the point when every other sunrise is the same. Likewise, she often has trouble understanding how others feel about her--she may not realize that people actually want her there, for example.

Despite this, she does care, and has a natural curiosity about the world around her. After the passing of the hero Himmel, she realized she didn't know anything about her companions at all, and she decides she wants to learn more about humans. Although progress is slow going, it's definitely happening. For example, on Fern's birthday, she goes out of her way to get a present for her. She may not be able to fully understand human emotions, but she does make an effort.

That being said, Frieren can be absolutely bloodthirsty when she needs to. When she was much, much younger, Frieren's village was destroyed by demons. She was then picked up by her master, Flammel, and spent the next 1000 years of her long, long life learning how to suppress her mana so that she could better kill demons. Not only that, but she also helped develop a spell--that had the sole purpose of being able to kill demons really well. When the party comes upon a demon in the village, she immediately sets on the attack, before being stopped by a pair of town guards.

Despite all of this, Frieren can be a little clueless at time. She is utterly bereft of all forms of tact, and doesn't always pay attention to the world around her. She has a tendency to get caught in traps, for example, and has a special proclivity for getting eaten by mimics.

She also has a complete fascination for odd kinds of magic. Frieren's favorite hobby (in canon) is collecting grimoires for odd magic spells. Spells that do things like clean the laundry, create fields of flowers, and make grapes more sour. Although she's not a sentimental person, there's no doubt that she does this partially for those around her. For all that she's spent time developing magic for the purposes of killing demons, she prefers magic that makes the people around her happy.

AU Name: Frieren Leroux
AU Age: 23 - She's like over a thousand years old in canon.
AU Birthday: April 1st

AU History: Frieren in Kaisou is originally a normal human who was born to a pair of normal human parents. When she was a child, they took her to a magic show--where the magician was using real magic. This awakened something in her, and ever since then, she's dedicated her life to studying the history of magic throughout the ages.

She transfers to Kaisou as a graduate student, intent on studying the mysteries of the world around her. Although everyone in her life has told her that magic isn't real, she knows the truth is different. Her studies focus on finding the truth between the page and reality.

AU Personality Differences: None, except for she's a little more emotive. She doesn't have a century of ennui behind her here, after all.

Character Name: Furina de Fontaine.
Canon: Genshin Impact.
Canon Point: Post 4.2 & her story quest "The Little Oceanid".
Age: 500.
Birthday: October 13th.
History: Here.

Personality:
• Upon first introduction Furina comes off as flamboyant and imprudent, speaking and acting with an excessive amount of bravo and drama. She appears to live for the thrill of the courtroom and the trials that unfold inside of it. From this vantage point, it would be easy to assume she cares for little else wanting nothing more than the entertainment of the courtroom and eating sweet cakes. She can come off as impatient and with a child-like temper, making judgments that she does not wholly mean and must be reigned back in order to keep complications from happening. Furina appears to love the spotlight and is at her loudest (and seemingly happiest) when it shines on her positively, however should things no longer go to plan she quickly begins to break down and desperately tries to save face.

• All of this is because for the last five hundred years Furina has been tasked with something utterly monumental. After assuming the role of the Hydro Archon, Focalors came up with a plan in order to fool the Heavenly Principles and save Fontaine from certain destruction. In order to do this she split her divinity from her body, placing said divinity into the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale and leaving her body, which she gave the name Furina, outside with the most crucial of tasks; play the role of the Hydro Archon for all the people of Fontaine - a never-ending masquerade and never allow anyone to suspect who she truly is. Furina took on the task gladly, believing that her suffering would end up saving the people of Fontaine. It was a role she mastered and continued to play day in, day out, for the next five hundred years.

• However her new role came with a catch, a curse if you will, not allow Furina to die nor seek out her own happiness as long as her divinity, Focalors, still lived. This, and the task she had been given, eventually began to wear her down leaving Furina paranoid of others learning her secret and thus forcing her to keep others at arm's length. As the years pressed on Furina developed severe self-esteem issues and grew increasingly despondent, considering giving it all up more than once. Despite her exhaustion, her isolation, and her paranoia, she continued to press on.

• Eventually the prophecy came to pass and Furina was freed from her role as the Hydro Archon, leaving her undoubtedly free from her previous role. This saw a shift in her personality, although she is still flamboyant and dramatic at times, she also shows a softer, humbler, and insecure side of herself. At first, she struggled with the fact her role was over and began to believe her newfound freedom meant that no one had use of her anymore. It made it difficult for her to reach out to those she was closest to during her time as the Hydro Archon, believing they only stood at her side because she was the Archon and they would want nothing to do with her now. She also desired to never step onto the stage ever again, despite her love of acting, fearing that taking on different identities after having to sustain such a heavy burden for centuries could ultimately bring further harm to herself. It was only after being comforted by Nuevilette, Navia, and even being visited by Clorinde, Furina realized she did not need to live her life in solitude.

• It was only after she was recruited by the Traveller to aid a trope with a play that almost died before it was properly performed that Furina regained her courage to move forward and realize that she isn't so averse to going back on the stage than she once thought. It was during this that she learned to accept her identity as simply Furina, that she became free from the shackles that once bound her and received a Vision, stepping forward in her new life.

Beredvyn of Nal | original character | Normal AU

[personal profile] thewarriorqueen 2023-11-18 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: AC

Invited by: already here
Other Characters: Ritsuka Fujimaru

Character Name: Beredvyn of Nal
Canon: OC
Canon History: The youngest daughter of a noble family in a small kingdom, her older siblings tended to convince their parents to be rather... indulgent towards her. Meaning that when as a young girl she took an interest to learning things like swordsmanship, she was allowed to do so, much to everyone's amusement. Then she turned out to have a natural talent for such martial pursuits, and fast forward some years and she's become a respected leader among her father's forces.

Then the king (her uncle, as it happens) was poisoned, leading to internal strife as people took sides backing one prince or the other, and Beredvyn cheerfully ignored all that to hastily gather an army to repel an opportunistic invasion staged by two neighboring kingdoms. For her trouble (and after some truth came out about what the king had been planning prior to his untimely death) she ended up being made queen, much to her annoyance.

Of course, that was only the start of things. The neighboring kings wanted to negotiate for the return of assets Beredvyn had captured while routing their armies, so the three of them (and their entourages, of course) agreed to use another, neutral location just across the mountains for it. Of course, they hadn't been there long when an earthquake severely damaged the lower part of the pass to get home, effectively stranding them for the winter. Then one of her nobles Beredvyn had brought as an advisor is accused of theft. And on top of it she's still trying to sort through and decide how to deal with the many minor (and not so minor) things that come with being queen, from directing road repairs to reviewing marriage offers.

Suffice it to say, it was a very stressful time, patience was tested, tempers flared, and occasional mistakes were made. But in the end Beredvyn was able to pull through to pacify her neighbors without weakening her position, clear her vassal's name, and even sort out some of her personal feelings about her new responsibilities along the way.

As a note, given the kind of OC this is, if it's not clear from the summary Beredvyn does not have any special powers despite being from a fantasy world. Maybe the kind of low level general "anyone can learn" it magecraft like starting a fire or magical first aid, but no more than that!

Canon Personality: Beredvyn is pretty strong-willed, first and foremost. She was already naturally inclined that way, and her upbringing certainly did nothing to curb that tendency. She tends to be confident, decisive, and assertive, all things that helped her successfully lead an army and later become queen. She's also incredibly dutiful: she wants what's best for everyone, and can and will shelve her personal feelings if she has to; the fact that she genuinely didn't want to rule but agreed to be queen anyway is a constant and deep source of inner conflict for her because of this.

On the other hand a strong will can easily become sheer stubbornness, and her assertive confidence often borders--or even outright becomes--aggression. That she's so dutiful herself means she doesn't suffer fools, and she often finds herself needing to put considerable effort to rein in her temper when frustrated or stressed. Beredvyn also has a tendency to think so much in the bigger picture that she neglects to consider other people's individual feelings, even those of people she cares deeply about.

Finally, for as imposing as her presence can be, she's actually quite private when it comes to personal matters. She'll make friends quickly enough, but getting any deeper takes time, and she's not a fan of people getting overly familiar that she doesn't feel have earned it.

AU Name: Meredith Nelson
AU Age: 25
AU Birthday: July 17

AU History: Grew up in a pretty average family somewhere in the midwest US, nothing too special here. Got into sports as a kid, leading to taking up fencing in college and then getting introduced to HEMA as her main hobby. Went to grad school for a business degree and then moved to Kaisou for a job, which she's now a few months into! Basically preeeetty boring, uneventful life that's about to get very, very disrupted.

AU Personality Differences: The fact that she's grown up in a society where it's socially acceptable for girls to be into things like sports, swordfighting, and having a career means that Meredith will be much, MUCH more chill than her past life. She's still plenty confident, just not aggressively so, and is actually fairly even-tempered as she's not constantly needing to prove herself. Other than that pretty much the same!

Other Characters: Edward Kenway, Lucy Westenra

Character Name: Leon Scott Kennedy
Canon: Resident Evil
Canon History: wiki link. tw for zombie outbreaks.

Canon Personality:
  • RESPONSIBLE. Leon is someone who feels a keen sense of responsibility to other people, wanting to ensure their safety and willing to risk his life in order to do it. This becomes something of a through-line in his appearances throughout the franchise, to the point where he kind of gets sick of it a few times and rails against it (notably in Vendetta, which is emotionally a really low point for him), but he never quite manages to stop himself from trying to help.

  • PROTECTIVE. Because of that sense of responsibility toward other people, Leon is the type of person who would willingly go through hell even for a stranger, if it's in his power to make sure they get out alive. He'd even give up his own freedom and his own life to ensure their safety. This also means he's very kind and gentle towards people he views as more vulnerable than himself, such as Sherry Birkin (a child) and Ashley Graham (a civilian college student).

  • HUMOROUS. Leon displays a sense of humor and a tendency to snark that has been honed to levels that would make an MCU hero run for their money. Partly it's a coping mechanism for him to better deal with all the shit that keeps landing in his lap, but he can turn it on and off depending on the severity of the situation and the people he's with.

  • TRAUMATIZED. Raccoon City is the defining moment of Leon's life, and so much of who he is as a person is because of the zombie outbreak and destruction that occurred there. Throughout that one horrible night, he tries his absolute hardest to live up to this ideal he has of protecting and helping vulnerable people but again and again, he repeatedly fails, because this is so far outside anything he trained for. By the time he leaves Raccoon with Sherry and Claire, it's safe to say he is no longer the rookie cop who came in.

  • TRUSTING. Leon wants to see the best in people, and will give them the benefit of the doubt first even when he's suspicious of them, trusting them to inadvisable levels. He gets attached to people incredibly easily especially in stressful situations, even when that person at first acts antagonistic towards him. This...has come back to bite him many times before.

  • CYNICAL. While Leon would still very much like to be a trusting person to some degree, Raccoon City's fall, and the things he saw there and went through in the aftermath, broke what faith he had in humanity. Although he still tries to help as much as he can, although he's still deeply kind at heart, he's also far less likely to simply take someone at their word now.

  • SELF-SACRIFICING. Leon, to a rather concerning degree, is absolutely willing to put his neck on the line for literally anyone. This stems from his protectiveness towards especially vulnerable people, but he's also the type to help a former enemy out and be willing to take on a huge-ass monster with only a knife to keep them safe. He's not as concerned for himself, putting other people above his needs consistently, much to his own consternation sometimes.

  • AU Name: N/A
AU Age: 27, his age in the RE4 remake. (Latest possible canon age according to Death Island: 38.)
    AU Birthday: October 31
    Faction: Black Order

    AU History:
  • grew up in a mid-sized urban area with a happy family. became a police officer after graduating from college, a lifelong dream he’d had since a police officer helped him find his parents when he got lost.

  • unfortunately did not last a week on the job before Some Bullshit went down. his police chief picked that very week to try and abscond with evidence of police corruption, and to cover his tracks he summoned monsters to kill any possible witnesses in the precinct. they were not very discriminating in who they took down, and in one or two cases they even possessed/cursed some unlucky innocents.

  • Leon, his best friend, a few colleagues, and a small spattering of civilians were the only ones out to survive the three days trapped inside the precinct. he did everything he could to save as many people as possible, but had to watch over and over as friends and colleagues died right in front of him. his own lieutenant sacrificed himself on the last day to ensure that he and the small group of survivors managed to get out.

  • the Black Order managed to get through on the third day, and killed Leon’s chief for his crimes. then they took Leon and his best friend, who turned out to have been cursed while they were getting through the siege. originally, they were supposed to be recruited, and the BO member doing the recruiting was particularly zealous about the mission.

  • Leon, realizing that his friend would surely be heartbroken if they had to cut all ties with home, immediately cut a deal with the Black Order—he’d take his friend’s place instead, because he’d been in the shit just as much as they’d been, and they would be left to their own devices, with assistance rendered so they could either manage the curse or be cured of it.

  • all this was six years ago. in that time, Leon quickly earned a reputation for being efficient and a quick thinker, fast on his feet, a highly-rated sharpshooter. he also is one of the more moral members as well, often focusing on defending and protecting the innocents, and is often selected for escort missions, to his own annoyance. he's a gentle guy! he's reliably protective! which makes him perfect for escorting people.

  • he’s also, uh, a little bit explosion-happy.

  • he’s been regaining memories over the past few years of RE canon, but mostly has kept it to himself, telling maybe a few people in the Black Order and his best friend. he’s not amused by the parallels between his past life and this one, y’all.

  • AU Personality Differences: Not a whole lot of major differences! He's more open to the supernatural than his past life, on account of that being the source of his trauma instead of mad science, and he's somewhat more trusting now because he didn't suffer through multiple betrayals, just the one that made him a little wary of authority.

    Other Characters: N/A

    Character Name: Ruby Gloom
    Canon: Ruby Gloom
    Canon Point: Episode 40
    Birthday: October 31st
History: On the outskirts of Gloomsville, a world of strange creatures, technicolor populations, sentient crows, and various monsters, squats a large mansion on a hill overlooking twisted crypts and crawling tombs. In that house lives a young girl and her gaggle of monstrous friends who... throw parties, hang out together, and go on adventures.

Truly, Gloomsville is "the bright side of the dark side".

There isn't very much to Ruby's life story, or that of her town. Whether or not Gloomsville earns its name in some part from her family or not (or if she's even human but that's a whole other discussion, she is human in this app), she is the owner of the mansion she calls home. The victorian homestead decked in her likeness, homes all of her friends, and the adjacent crows that like to hang out, with more than enough room to spare. Naturally, this is where most of the series takes place.

In the nature of cartoon sitcoms, there isn't really so much progression in the story. Not to say there is none. Early on, Ruby deals with everyday issues in the house, like throwing a surprise party that everyone thinks is either a celebration of her moving out, or her death. Or learning to welcome a new ghost into the house who needs to scare one of them to obtain all his ghostly abilities, but is too cute to make it work.

Several things are concrete: Ruby has lived with her friends for more than a few years, she has a crush on fellow housemate, Skull Boy, and Gloomsville is, somehow, on Earth. Despite the ghosts, sentient crows and bats, technicolor population, and the sentient moon. All normal things.

Family-friendly shenanigans ensue. Ruby helps her friend build a robot father to participate in the local science fair with him. She arranges a surprise party for the anniversary of the time her friend was saved from an ice flow. She helps repair a time machine her friend made so they can send Edgar Allan Poe's pet budgie back in time. She helps a sentient, french-accented venus flytrap with her writer's block. Everyone celebrates Yamween together. The house accidentally rockets into space and orbits the moon for a while. There's an extended musical special about Ruby letting her friend go off to discover who he is in Gloomsville, and then trying to get back to him because she realized how lonely it is. It's that sort of show, and if it's really necessary I could detail each one.

At the latest in Ruby's life, her canon point, she's taken a train ride through Gloomsville with her friends with the intention of picking up her cat, Doom Kitty, from the cat spa. Along the way, they save the trail from running out of control, stop an apparently dangerous stranger (who actually wanted to award them with the "True meaning of friendship" award). Ruby also accidentally threw herself from the train. A bit touch and go, but everyone got out of it unscathed, and Ruby got to pick up Doom.

The train was destroyed in the end, though. That's fine. It was a nice day to walk home.

Personality: One of the old slogans for the Ruby Gloom brand was Ruby saying she was so happy she could die. That... is about half true. The first half.

Ruby is the happiest girl in the world. Self-admitted to it, in fact. It's a position she takes rather seriously and proudly in her day-to-day. As much as a young girl with a cheery disposition can. There's hardly a time when Ruby isn't the brightest light in the room, and the very rare times that her mood is affected are always starkly noticeable. Even in her down times, she still tries to look on the bright side of things - if not for herself than to at least cheer up her friends. Of course, Ruby has the emotional awareness to know that simply being happy isn't always possible, or what's needed. She's just... naturally very easygoing, loving life, and enjoying the fun in things.

And one of the best things in Ruby's life are her friends. From her endless enjoyment of the unlucky Misery, to her quiet infatuation with Skull Boy, and everyone else she meets, Ruby never runs out of love, or patience, for her friends - her family. Even relatively new strangers- like the newly-appointed ghost, Booboo, receive nothing but her unfailing politeness and earnest advice... Although, she's been known to go overboard in the past in her efforts. Notably, she tries to help her friend, Scardey Bat get over his fear of flying, only realizing later on that she was pushing him into something he didn't want. On one account, she also fell for the charms of a cute bunny, who was trying to rob the mansion, and turned a blind eye to Doom's warnings until the truth was revealed. Naturally, if she ever reaches this point, she backtracks and apologies. Causing her friends strife with her encouragement is never the intention of her efforts. She's simply too empathetic for her own good sometimes.

Despite the obvious gothic influences, most of Ruby's hobbies are notably feminine. She loves to bake and cook, does arts-and-crafts with a particular fondness for stuffed animals (who possess the strangest tendency to come to life by her hand), and other fairly normal tastes; book reading, board games, listening to music, and parties. Ruby loves throwing parties, for as little justification as necessary ("Thankfully it's monday/tuesday/wednesday/the weekend" parties, just to name a few). But she does have her taste for the macabre: having picnics in the crypt, going monster-hunting, listening to detective thrillers and soap operas filled with delicious twists.

As the owner of the mansion's library, she's also quite well-read for her age. This reflects in her technical abilities, being able to build a steam-powered automated pancake maker, and later on helping Skullboy rebuild his time machine and rebuild his part of the house when it's accidentally destroyed. She's also got something of an analytic mind, as she leaps to play detective when one of her friends goes missing during a train ride.

Connecting back to her hobbies, Ruby also has quite the adventurous spirit. If her friends are on some sort of quest, Ruby's usually the one either leading the pack or providing quiet assistance to the leader. She likes to put on a brave face, leaping into danger to help a friend, or put a (polite) stop to a threat, but she also has her limits. Put her in a genuinely dangerous situation, or up against something terrifying, and Ruby will reveal that she's more scared than she appears. If anything, her bravery lies in the friends by her side; when they're together, she can accomplish almost anything.

Which isn't to say Ruby is invincible either! She's still a young girl; she can be fed up with others habits, she get sad, she gets scared. If she has a crush on somebody - like Skull Boy - she becomes adorably flustered as she tries to hide her true feelings for the sake of keeping things normal. But always, Ruby tries to look on the bright side of life, because why wouldn't you?

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: December 24th! Aaaaand I'd sort of like Ruby's labyrinth to manifest as a maze of mansion hallways. Maybe there's ghosts or something in it, idk. Do what you will!
    Items: N/A
    Retained Abilities:
Aside from being a fairly normal young girl, Ruby has the odd ability to occasionally bring inanimate objects she creates to life. This can be things such as a handmade doll, or a snowman. But she neither controls them, nor has an actually way to control this ability. It just happens sometimes. Obviously, if this is too powerful to qualify, it can be nerfed and she just arrives a Perfectly Normal Girl™️.
