What are Side Quests and how do they work?
Side Quests are optional missions/jobs that are posted on the Libra Network each month for characters to do. New quests will appear every month around the same time as the OOC plotting post (so about the 28th), but ICly will appear on the app on the 1st of the month.

Players will sign up their characters to do particular quests, either by themselves or with a group. During the sign up, players will give information on how well a character would do on a particular quest (for example: if an illiterate character was asked to read some books to children, you should mention that they can't read). With this information factored in, the mod helper will respond with roughly how smoothly the quest will turn out based on a combination of your characters skills and RNG.

From there, players are free to play out or handwave the side quests as they wish! While we ask that players sign up for quests that are happening in the current month, players can backdate quest threads as much to your liking.

There is no limit to how many characters can be part of a single quest group. You can do quests by yourself, or have a raid party of 30 characters.

You can sign up for as many group quests (2 or more characters) as you like. While you can sign up for a solo quest, they are currently restricted to one per month per character.

Are there Rewards?
Each quest will have IC rewards for characters that vary depending on the quest and how well the characters do.

On the OOC end, turning in quest threads that have at least 3 comments from your character will earn you 1 free gacha point. The quest doesn't need to be completed, it just needs to have at least three comments from your character in order to be eligible. While you can sign up for as many group quests as you like in a month, you can only redeem up to 3 gacha points per month. Threads for quests from previous months can be redeemed as well, but it'd count towards the quest turn-ins for the current month. In group quests, when redeeming gacha points, please be sure that each player who wishes to redeem the thread for a gacha roll comments individually so we can keep track of individual free gacha totals.

Character(s) Involved: Cale
Quest Name: Li'l Pet Shop of Horrors
Relevant Skills: Can make it so people overlook him for about five minutes (only if no one is looking for him). Has some ability to see in the dark. Has medium senses. Has a very glib tongue and can talk himself out of most situations. Plus, his family is pretty rich and influential, if he gets in a pinch, but he'll want to avoid bringing them into it.

Cale did his best but it was unfortunately not good enough. From the moment he steps into the shop, it goes badly. His possession sets off all the animals, as they hiss and spit and make an awful racket. This means there are ALWAYS eyes on him for most of his time him the shop. He manages to make it so no one notices him if he gets into a quiet aisle of the shop- but as he's wandering around a small winged cat bounces off his head- creating quite a ruckus and immediately unmasking his ruse. Mrs. Fluffluffer immediately kicks him out for "disrupting her little darlings" and bans him from stepping back inside. She is not moved by his parentage and in fact, accuses him of trying to make this "a class thing."

For his failure, he receives a pet rock. Sometimes it seems to move when he's out of the room. The SPETA representative gently advises him that maybe this isn't the line of work he should go into and maybe he should just get a nice desk job instead. He isn't banned from working for them ever again, but it's firmly suggested he shouldn't bother again.

Quest Name: Homeward Bound
Relevant Skills: Well, she's got her lightsaber back functioning, and even without her power base she's still a walking combat skill with her other weapons. And helping citizens is pretty much her definition of 'things I have to do', so she'll pursue this with the grit and determination of a gila monster.
Anything else?: Nup!

Character(s) Involved: Anthony J. Crowley and Moxxie
Quest Name: Homeward Bound
Relevant Skills: Moxxie has a small arsenal of guns with which he is a crack shot and an ice age which he is less skilled with, so if they should happen to get into combat with any dog-shaped monsters it had better hope it is bullet proof. Crowley meanwhile has a strong fondness for kids and thinks of his feet, he might be able to slip the kids out while Moxxie distracts the monster dog.
Anything else?: And if everything goes wrong Moxxie is fire proof while Crowley has ten minutes of fire immunity, so they could always light something on fire and run away as a last ditch effort... so long as the kids weren't nearby. Neither of them would want to burn any kids.

Mal managed to find the tear relatively easily, following the trail of lost items and witness statements from people who saw kids go missing. She manages to navigate the labyrinth pretty easily, managing to get the correct path and dealing with any falling rocks or open chasms like she was born to do it. Once she gets to the dog, it launches into an immediate attack. Luckily, she has the weapons and skills to defeat it- much to the wonder of the children watching her. Once the beast is defeated, they flock around her, wide-eyed in wonder. A number of them ask if they can hold her lightsaber as she herds them out of the rift and back to their extremely grateful parents.

For her victory, Mal gets $1,200, a yellow Tonka truck and the adoration of a bunch of children. They continually fight over who gets to bring her to show-and-tell and she can't go anywhere without at least one of the little tykes finding her and following her, doe-eyed.

Moxxie and Crowley almost stumble on the rift taking them to the labyrinth. They manage to navigate the maze, only occasionally almost falling down cracks in the ground or being crushed by falling rocks. Once they get to the dog, Moxxie's gun skills come in handy- turns out the dog is NOT bulletproof and the firepower keeps the dog at bay as the kids flock around Crowley for him to get to safety. Once Crowley has the kids at a safe distance, they can use the fire to finish off the dog once and for all, then get the kids out of the rift and back to their parents.

For their victory, Moxxie and Crowley get $1,100 and a yellow Tonka truck. Crowley might also find himself getting a lot more work after this, as the kids (and the parents) swear by his skills. Moxxie probably gets called a "good kitty" now that the normies can see him for what he is- but at least they seem to really like him? That's probably a bonus.

Quest Name: What You Hershey is What You Get
Relevant Skills: Isabela has the ability to conjure flowers and cacti (canon power will be restored at the beginning of next month) to distract/fend off the monster as much as needed while Anthony is quick to think on his feet and has some resistance to fire and demon eyes which would allow for easier navigation.
Anything else?: They are going to bring along a shopping cart or a wheeled device to carry the cake pieces in. Because chocolate cakes can be very messy to carry with hands without boxes.

Just a note to be sure Isabela gets her regains for her powers ICly before this quest!

Tragically, Isabela and Crowley's mission is a tragic failure. While Crowley gets them through the cave pretty well with his demon eyes, things go downhill the second Isabela grows her distraction flowers. The monster turns out to have hay fever so as Isabela grows her flowers, the monster ends up sneezing and flailing around. It, unfortunately, flails into a cactus, which gets launched towards the cake. While they manage to escape the enraged creature, what they retrieve of the cake is covered in cactus spines. Avery cries. A lot.

For their failure, Isabela and Crowley get a Kit Kat between them. It's not even a fun flavour of Kit Kat. Just a plain-ass Kit Kat. But hey, Isabela's probably never had a Kit Kat before so that can be a fun experience for her.

Character(s) Involved: Jun and Hunter aka the Cult Boys
Quest Name: Gnome Mercy
Relevant Skills: Hunter and Jun can both teleport, Hunter can fly with a staff and is trained in combat, and Jun can use a long list of magical abilities made for whoopass. Unfortunately, both of their people skills are very lacking.
Anything else?: The Cult Boys are on the case!!! I got nothing.

Despite having the combined people skills of a paper bag full of dog turds, Jun and Hunter somehow manage to pull this quest off flawlessly. They manage to find the gnomes without any trouble. Their teleportation skills come in handy to distract the gnomes- making them a pretty effective tag team in taking the armour and the gnomes in it down. Instead of being angry, the gnomes are actually pretty damn impressed and promise to move their ventures to a warehouse clear of everyone else in the city for all future tests. Stax is extremely impressed by the amazing way they handled this quest and the residents of the Undertown are considerably nicer to them from this point onwards- even giving them the occasional free sample. Even if that free sample is sometimes blood with eyeballs floating in it. You take what you get.

For their unmitigated success, Jun and Hunter each get $500 and a coupon for Void Denny's EACH. They are also invited back by the gnomes to help them carry out further tests on their suit of armour - paying them a nice tidy sum of $50 each for every test they come to.

Relevant Skills: Jun can sense supernatural things, has strong combat skills and can teleport. (If that would be useful) Katsuki also has strong combat skills and would be pretty good at piecing together any clues they might find.
Anything else?: Neither one of them has very good people skills.

Quest Name: What You Hershey Is What You Get
Relevant Skills: Both Minato and Jun have some fighting skill, so dealing with the monsters won't be an issue! However Minato loves eating things and neither of them have strong impulse control, so honestly whether that cake survives will be a miracle.
Anything else?: C A K E

Katsuki's detective skills come in handy in this mission! They have to follow a couple of leads, but upon asking some distressed parents and following a good trail of clues, they find a rift, just plump for diving in. The dog is definitely quick on the attack, and the kids are terrified- but between their combat skills and Jun's ability to teleport the little ragamuffins out of the stomping feet of the dog, they are able to beat back the beast and get the kids to safety. The parents are EXTREMELY grateful and the kids they rescue state they are the "coolest people alive" and will actively point them out to their friends if they see them in the street.

For their success, they get $1,100 and a yellow Tonka truck. They also get little crayon drawings made of them by the kids sent to them on the regular- how did those little blighters find your addresses? Best not think about that. All the drawings have wonderful things like "my hɘЯo" or "cool dudɘ!!" written on them. Katsuki always has sharp teeth in them for some reason.

Jun and Minato manage, by some luck, to sneak into the cave. They do a pretty good job of attacking the monster- it's touch and go for a bit but they do eventually bring it down without destroying the cake. When it comes to bringing the cake back out of the cave, however- that's a much trickier task. They only have the cake stand to hold it on, and with all the uneven ground in the cave, it's natural that their fingers might squish into it a bit. Maybe just licking their fingers clean is fine, it's not like they're eating the cake, right? But it does taste so good, and the chocolate smell wafts through the air like a siren call. Maybe...just a little bite?

For their (bearly passing) success, they get $100 each. They also get a bottle of chocolate wine between them- but they'll find the bottom of the bottle is cracked and the stuff keeps oozing out. If they ate the cake before they got it to the surface, they will be cursed to only speak in limericks for the next 24 hours. Avery will also tell them they can never come into his shop again for harming his precious. He's kinda weird and hissy about it honestly- what a drama queen. It's not like you dropped it in a volcano or anything.

Quest Name: A Mean Right Rook
Relevant Skills: Ken might not have the smarts to win at chess but he tries to talk to the monster about how Mrs. Applebee misses her husband. That and there's only so much the monster could do with her husband for so long. While his attempt may or may not go well, at least he tried right?
Anything else?: If worse comes to worse, he'll fight but he rather not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Quest Name: A Mean Right Rook
Relevant Skills: Waver is just crazy enough to play chess against a monster and has a good head for strategy, Elliot also knows the rules of chess, and together they generally hold at least one braincell. maybe several.
Anything else?: Worst case scenario: Waver probably throws an alchemical flashbang and everybody runs.

The monster really is expecting a chess match and instead gets a soft-hearted teenage lecture about the importance of love and playing nice. She rants and raves a lot but she doesn't want an ACTUAL fight and once it's clear that Ken is not going to stop with all the feelings talk and has no intention of actually playing chess, she gives in- picking up poor Mr. Applebee and hucking him in Ken's direction. She does make it clear the cost of getting the poor man back is that Mr. Applebee teaches Ken how to play chess because "you can't win chess with hugs, Kid."

For just about passing, Ken gets $200 and a beginner's chess set. The monster reminds Ken that she WILL send Mr. Applebee every Thursday evening to Blue Fish Park to give Ken lessons on how to play chess properly. He'd better not skip a lesson or ELSE. The or ELSE turns out to be a note stuck to his door with a frowny face on it.

They had a good number of brain cells between them! This should have worked!!! It did not, however. Once they get into the monster's lair, it turns out she wants to play Stealth chess which they definitely didn't sign up for. The game is a confusing mess designed to completely crush anyone who hasn't had a lot of experience being crushed by it. They REALLY like it in the Undercity, the monster points out. Try as they might, they can't figure out the bonkers rules for this game and eventually Waver decides to throw a flashbang while Elliot makes a grab for Mr. Applebee. This plan, tragically, also fails as it turns out the monster can see perfectly well in the bright light. She grabs both of them by their collars and throws them out- telling them she'll be keeping Mr. Applebee until he figures out how to play this game and maybe they should take the time to learn a real game of skill.

For their resounding failure, they get half-chewed homework and a chess set which is missing some pieces. Mrs. Applebee will also cry and/or glare at them whenever she passes them in the street from here on in.
