What are Side Quests and how do they work?
Side Quests are optional missions/jobs that are posted on the Libra Network each month for characters to do. New quests will appear every month around the same time as the OOC plotting post (so about the 28th), but ICly will appear on the app on the 1st of the month.

Players will sign up their characters to do particular quests, either by themselves or with a group. During the sign up, players will give information on how well a character would do on a particular quest (for example: if an illiterate character was asked to read some books to children, you should mention that they can't read). With this information factored in, the mod helper will respond with roughly how smoothly the quest will turn out based on a combination of your characters skills and RNG.

From there, players are free to play out or handwave the side quests as they wish! While we ask that players sign up for quests that are happening in the current month, players can backdate quest threads as much to your liking.

There is no limit to how many characters can be part of a single quest group. You can do quests by yourself, or have a raid party of 30 characters.

You can sign up for as many group quests (2 or more characters) as you like. While you can sign up for a solo quest, they are currently restricted to one per month per character.

Are there Rewards?
Each quest will have IC rewards for characters that vary depending on the quest and how well the characters do.

On the OOC end, turning in quest threads that have at least 3 comments from your character will earn you 1 free gacha point. The quest doesn't need to be completed, it just needs to have at least three comments from your character in order to be eligible. While you can sign up for as many group quests as you like in a month, you can only redeem up to 3 gacha points per month. Threads for quests from previous months can be redeemed as well, but it'd count towards the quest turn-ins for the current month. In group quests, when redeeming gacha points, please be sure that each player who wishes to redeem the thread for a gacha roll comments individually so we can keep track of individual free gacha totals.

Quest Name: My Semi-Charmed Life
Relevant Skills: Yasuho in general is skilled in University research, gathering information and resources quick, paring it down to what's relevant. With Paisley as well, this search can go somewhat faster on the digital end, which means she can track down the tangible books and materials that much faster.

Ritsuka.....has A LOT OF LIFE EXPERIENCE. She's known a guy who was a dragon. She regularly checks under the bed for snake girls. There's more, definitely, and how much any of it makes sense is debatable.
Anything else?: Yasuho will focus on what's most likely credible and useful, and run it by other supernaturally inclined folks to be safe- she'll also be doing her best to acquire those resources in tangible print format, one part because a lot of book stuff just doesn't end up online, another because Mr. Dunothing will probably do better with that.

Ritsuka continues to have a lot of life experience.

They probably should have just gone to Starbucks. The second the paid enter Fantasy Costco, everything is in shambles. A cauldron immediately tips over, spilling its contents at them. It doesn't seem to do any damage, but it IS pretty stinky. They do their best to fight off all the furniture trying to do them in, but they are vastly outnumbered and nothing seems to be bothered by the fires or explosions being non-alive and all. Eventually, a bookcase full of spellbooks drops on them from a higher level (how did it even GET there) and a plethora of lighting spells give them some unpleasant shocks. A flock of witches' brooms eventually crowd them and sweep them towards the exit- regardless of if Katsuki sets them on fire or not on fire or not.

For their horrible failure, they can see the shady sorcerer hastily cleaning up drops of blood on the floor. What a nice clean fella he is. They are both cursed for the day with everything tasting like peanut butter (it does not trigger peanut allergies however). Was the coffee really worth it, Sandalphon?

Mark Dunothing really does need all the help that Rren and Luz can give him. Pretty quickly into this conversation, it's clear he knows very little, and what he does know seems to have been gleaned from a sketchy website called werecatsandmedotcom which looks like it was built in the 90s- with spinning gifs and midi sounds and everything. Luckily, between them, Rren and Luz really have this covered! Between Rren's research skills and Luz's experiences in understanding how to mingle with the supernatural (plus some showy glyphs, he is a simple man), their student comes away with a much better understanding of the situation his daughter is as a whole. He promises to do better and even goes out to buy a little catnip mouse for the boyfriend. His... his heart's in the right place.

For their success, they each get $500 and a healing potion that will cure moderate wounds once. Mark Dunothing will contact them every single time his daughter's beau does "some weird cat thing". Such as turning in a circle before he sits down or being entranced by a shiny thing. This is going to get old fast- did they TRULY win here?

You'd think with Yasuho's university skills this would be a shoe-in for a win. And she did get PLENTY for Mr. Dunothing to read. She was absolutely correct in getting him print format too- getting a very correct read that. Unfortunately, all he does is flick through the papers with an increasing expression of befuddlement. The confusion only grows when Ritsuka starts talking about snake girls under her bed. No matter what they try, no matter what research materials or witness accounts they try, nothing seems to sink in, and they eventually have to admit defeat. Maybe he's more of a sock puppet sort of guy.

For their failure, they each get A half-deflated pigskin football and the unshakable sense that Mr. Dunothing isn't mad, he's just disappointed.

Character(s) Involved: Lapis and Jinwoo
Quest Name: Sworded Machinations
Relevant Skills: So Jinwoo has that good ol' misfortune, so that's an instant -4. Otherwise he's not much of a fighter, but he makes up for it by being able to summon Igris and Tank to fight for him. Meanwhile Lapis is much more fight orientated; she's got a scythe, shadow claws and a fire whip so she is Ready - plus she's able to sense dark/malicious magic, so that could help in rooting out the cause.

Anything else?: They're just two shadow nerds doing their very best - at least they've fought together before so there's some?? good synergy at least??? Also breaking the sword is on the agenda because no giving evil cursed swords to weird sorcerers.

Two shadow nerds walk into a Fantasy Costco and madness ensues. Jinwoo's horrific bad luck immediately screws them over as a display cauldron comes rolling around them, coating the floor in a sticky, smelly potion that not only traps them but makes them both speak in rhyming couplets while it's touching them. Luckily Lapis has a scythe to cut them out of it, and soon they are free and able to stumble back into the fray. Between them, they have to battle flying spellbooks and some extremely hostile brooms. Jinwoo trips up over a lot of them. A lot of them. Lapis' dark magic sensing abilities do mean they find the sword and are able to destroy it- stopping the chaos. The store is an absolute mess, though, and Garfield is unsurprisingly nowhere to be found so Lapis and Jinwoo are left on cleanup duty when the panicked manager of the store sees the state it's in. Guys, c'mon, he's not paid enough to deal with this!

For just about getting through this mess, between them, they get $2000 and a sword that will be imbued with lightning for 3 minutes after uttering the magic command. This can be used three times a day. When the magic is exhausted it becomes a normal sword.

Quest Name: An Apple Will Play
Relevant Skills: Kni is incredibly intelligent, with a mind for strategy games and the patience needed (usually) to excel at them. back on ship five, he played chess games with vash to pass the time, so he'd be confident in participating in a chess championship with the goal of winning in mind.
Anything else?: He'll bank on his opponents underestimating him because he's a kid. He'd be playing half because it looks like fun and half because he'd like to have some pocket change for himself. Also, he loves (as much as he can 'love' any food) apples so with a basket of honeycrisp on the line he's a little incentivized.

Mr and Mrs Applebee are delighted to see such an "ambitious young man" taking part in the championship. Sure, they find him a little unsettling, but they allow him to enter because there's not a lot of kids getting involved. The experienced chess players scoff at this youngster in their midst, right up until he plays his first game and wins it. They stop laughing pretty quickly and once it's clear that Kni is on a roll, they resort to cheating. There's distraction, double-teaming, playing with the clock- they do all they can to try and get ahead. Eventually, one elderly gentleman goes too far and flips the entire-ass chessboard over, screaming that Kni is obviously getting moves from his "fancy new fangled teleo-mo-phone!!!" The tournament is called off at that point, the Applebees agree that Kni was ahead before all the disruption and hand him the prize on the promise his parents won't sue them for all the hassle.

For his (just about) victory, Kni gets $500, an electronic chess set, and a basket of Honeycrisp apples. Mmm, apples.

Character(s) Involved: Edward Kenway and Arno Dorian
Quest Name: The Lost World: Hangover 2
Relevant Skills: EDWARD - skilled pirate and potential Assassin, with skill in free-running, combat, marksmanship and stealth, as well as Eagle Vision that allows for tagging and tracking enemies and now shadow knives. carries a blowpipe with sleep darts that can knock out a man, but he’s only got five of them left, and also I guess he can talk to rats now.
ARNO - skilled and highly-trained Assassin, with a more versatile and expanded weapons and stealth training and a Phantom Blade crossbow attachment to his hidden blade bracer, as well as magic skill and knowledge from CRAU. his Eagle Vision edges out Edward’s by being able to see through walls without needing to get eyes on the target first.
Anything else?: neither of them know what the fuck a Triceratops is. it’s doubtful that they know what a dinosaur even is—it turns out that dinosaur research only really went into full swing in the nineteenth century, and the Golden Age of Piracy and the French Revolution both took place long before all that. they’re going off descriptions, still pictures, probably info from tailing some frat bros, and also Lots Of Confidence. it’s a great big horned reptile, right? they can totally find that and lead it gently back to the zoo in time!

they do both have variations of Eagle Vision that allow for tracking through walls and figuring out important clues! Edward’s can turn on all the time but he needs to not be doing anything more strenuous than a walk to access it, Arno’s only lasts for a brief time before it turns off and needs a cooldown but he can track more enemies through walls without seeing them first. he also can activate it even while running or doing other strenuous activities. it can also come in clutch for both of them in pointing out clues—the color gold has the shared meaning of PAY ATTENTION TO THIS for them both. so it’s possible they might be actually able to find the triceratops! maybe. probably.

jury’s out on whether they can successfully get the big guy back to the zoo, though.

Just a note that Arno does not possess magical skills as he has yet to purchase it through the regain. We understand he came to Kaisou with magical books from Eachddraidh, but we also are aware that in order for that magic to work - Arno would need to regain his shard. So as of this time, we will not be counting any magical skill towards the quest results.

UNFORTUNATELY, Y'ALL ROLLED A NAT 1 ANYWAY.

What could possibly go wrong when two men from time periods before anyone really knew dinosaurs were a thing decide to go and try to find a dinosaur? A whole lot, it turns out! They start off on this magical adventure, in search of a great horned creature! Their Eagle Vision does occasionally flash up gold, but given they're going by the vaguest of ideas of what they're actually looking for, it goes to hell pretty quickly. First, they follow a trail of chewed-up flowers, the footprints left are pretty big- is that their triceratops?!! No. It's a cow that escaped Stardew. They trail some frat boys who swear down "no, seriously, dudes, we TOTALLY saw your lizard thing!!!!" they follow this lead to the entertainment district - is that their triceratops?!!! No. It's a dude in a Barney costume who immediately starts a fistfight with them when they descend on top of him. The police are called. Children cry. Finally, beaten and exhausted, they follow a lead that promises not only a reptile but it has HORNS!! And it's big...ish - is that their triceratops?!! No. It's a chameleon in the local pet shop. But the guys figure one horned reptile is as good as any, right? You can decide if they steal the lizard or buy it like good citizens (and have the shopkeep sell a bunch of reptile-keeping supplies along with it, wow they're expensive!!). Regardless, once they arrive at the zoo with the chameleon, they can see the keepers already pushing the triceratops back into the pen. Is that their triceratops??!! Yes. But they didn't find it so the zoo keepers send them on the way. One of them got a pet chameleon out of this though!

While rooting around for the triceratops, you triggered a curse. Unfortunately for them, they rolled a 6 so they ended up with two curses for the price of one. They both get: Butterfingers (can't hold onto anything) and Animal ears/tail - these curses can be permanent or last for a week. To make matters worse, for their terrible failure the NPCs of Kaisou have given them titles. Some will whisper these behind their back, while most will just call it straight to their faces. Arno is known as Fancy Frenchie and Edward is known as Clumsy Corsair. They are often said with a snigger. If they ever order coffee, that title will be put on the cup with a stupid smiley face doodled next to it. This will never go away.

Character(s) Involved: Kaveh and Josuke Higashikata
Quest Name: Get in the Robot
Relevant Skills: Kaveh is good with technology/robots so he could likely utilize the supplied mechanical armor—however, without it, his performance in physical combat is entirely dependent on Mehrak's ability to pick-up/swing heavy objects for him and his magic is more based on utility than offense. He can conjure a ping-pong sized ball of light, create a temporary rainbow bridge, and form up-to-building-sized illusions if the situation calls for it.

Josuke has the ability to heal/repair thanks to his Stand. He also has the power to shoot spider webbing (like Spider-Man) and two swords he could bring to the fight.
Anything else?: Kaveh tends to walk the fine line between creative and practical in his problem solving. He can also be quite self-sacrificing if it means doing the 'right' thing and has a bad tendency of biting off more than he can chew, but he's both stubborn and a hard worker. If/when the gnomes have been stopped, he'll probably offer his services as an architect to those whose homes/businesses have been destroyed, pro bono since the damage was through no fault of their own ~~even if he could use the money.~~

Josuke is definitely a fan of creative/unusual/off-the-wall tactics when they'll help, and he's very good at finding ways to use his Stand for stuff like tracking, containing, and unexpected offense.

Character(s) Involved: Jinwoo and Lapis
Quest Name: Threads of Fate
Relevant Skills: Jinwoo has his -4 luck, so that will affect the roll. He's not a fighter, but he does have his two shadow friends - plus he's the more sneaky of the pair, thanks to the shadow hoping.
Lapis is more combat focused, with her scythe and shadow claws plus her fire chain whip - so she can absolutely set the clothes on fire.

Anything else?: Two shadow nerds doing their best once again. They're been around Hyrule quite a bit ~~trying to find Korok seeds~~ so they're familiar enough to navigate with little problems, and also gather what they need. Jinwoo's previous escapades with the hole don't count-

There will also be some interest in trying to track down this merchant as well, but we'll. See how that goes.

Character(s) Involved: Fugo and Ash
Quest Name: Threads of Fate
Relevant Skills: The biggest advantage in a task like this is holy shit both of these boys are nerds. If they're told what they'll need to gather up, fantastic! If not, they've probably read something that'll help out with pointing out what they need, or if they haven't, looking it up (and discounting anything especially suspicious). If tasked with making the antidote, again holy shit these boys are nerds and are also good at following directions, be it from a local alchemist or whatever the Library of Alexandria has to say on the matter. (And if they don't have to make it themselves, that works out just fine as well.)
As for dealing with the animate cloth, these boys both carry sharp objects and Fugo can conjure up lighter-sized flames--and if all else fails, Ash is probably bringing along Orthie the Houndour (so, more fire) as well.
Anything else?: These boys are ready to help-- and if Fugo's shiny new +1 bonus to luck gives them an edge they might not otherwise have, fantastic.

It starts pretty hopefully for our plucky pair. Kavaeh can work the armour pretty well and Josuke has some great tactics under his belt. They start the fight with an advantage, and the gnomes are almost knocked out of the battle quickly. Unfortunately, these gnomes are tricksy little blighters and quickly change their own tactics. Two of them act as distractions against the pair, while the other sneaks behind them to start hucking pieces of building at them. This soon devolves into them playing an irritating game of "can't catch me" (including "neener neener" noises) where they just run around the pair, ducking out of the way and causing ever more damage to the buildings They eventually manage to get Josuke to shoot off some spider webbing at the prototype Kaveh is piloting, bringing it collapsing to the ground. The gnomes use the opportunity to scurry away- but not before hitting them with the World Enlarger beam. Honestly, the only thing that stops these guys from being added to Snax Snively's Bad List is that Kaveh offers to help with the rebuilding. Which...he'll probably have to do when the beam's powers wear off.

For your awful failure, you get hit with the World Enlarger beam, which makes you 1/4th of your size for 12 hours.

One day, Jinwoo will learn not to tempt fate and dive into these quests. Today is not the day. The shadow nerds head off onto the quest with their usual mix of pluck and poorly placed optimism. They manage to track down the merchant through Jinwoo's shadow hopping, who of course immediately sets the clothes on them. Lapis' fire whip is a great bonus here, after all the fire really does seem to bring a lot of the errant garments down. Unfortunately, as usual, Jinwoo's horrific luck rears its ugly head as he trips into a pile of the goop used in Ultrahand, and his dramatic flailing covers some clothing in it. That stuff is super explosive of course, and the resulting fireball is something to behold. ~~At least it's not big enough to create a second Hole~~. The resulting panic from the locals as they try to put out the fire on their HOUSES gives the merchant a chance to run away. As they failed to create the alchemical cure to remove the sleeping curse, residents continue to slumber and the residents of Hyrule ask the pair if they really have to keep visiting here?

These nerds are SUPER prepared and it really pays off for them!! Armed with a wealth of knowledge from grilling locals (and one all-nighter in the Library of Alexandria) they're quick to gather the ingredients they need to make the antidote. They're quick to get this set through Hyrule, waking up the slumbering victims. It's while they're doing this that they're attacked by THE CLOTHES. They have to run around, trying to keep their hard-earned cure from going up in flames while fighting back the clothes. Luckily their combat skills, Orthie and all that fire come out trumps and they manage to beat back the clothes okay even if a few houses get some minor burn damage in the process. The residents demand they help fix the damage, but are a little less sore than they usually would be given their friend down the road is now out of his sleep coma.

For their success, they each get $500 and a set of sewing needles that will self-sew small items of clothing for you, such as socks, buttons, etc, and a recipe for a baked apple that literally just involves throwing apples into a fire.

Character(s) Involved: Saori Nakagawa
Quest Name: An Apple Will Play
Relevant Skills: Saori has played chess before but she's still a beginner. She will not use her smoke manipulation to cheat.
Anything else?: She will do some studying before hand but she can use her big sister charm if she needs to either soften up her opponent or encourage others to help clear the competition for her. A chess set would help her pass time/be a way to open up social opportunities. Also who doesn't love apples and she bets she can make a lovely apple tart if she got those honeycrisp apples.

Saori has a pretty successful first quest! While she's still a beginner, she seems to ease into the competition with ease! A few of the elderly chess players are not amused by her "usurping" their positions as the People to Beat, but the younger players are more than charmed and once a few are knocked, out of the competition, they happily play test matches to help her hone her skills. It does take one of the champions having to drop out for a sudden onset of back pain, but she manages to score pretty high, enough for the Applebees to be impressed and pass her some winnings!
