Applications v.5

Applications

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

To see the previous app page, you can find it here: Year 1 (2022) | Year 2 (2023) | Year 3 (2024) | Year 4 (2025)

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on the first and third weekend of the month, ending at 6pm EST on Sundays (so if you submit an app at 9pm on Sunday it won't get read until the following relevant weekend). Please check the calendar to see when apps will be processed next.

To join the game, you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. To invite someone, have the person apping list the name of the person inviting them, and then the inviter should comment to their app confirming the invite. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two app processing weekends of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. Sometimes revisions will be requested if there is a need to fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player/cast cap?
There are a couple caps! The first cap ia an overall player cap. Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

The second cap is on the number of players with an OU (original universe) character. To make sure OU characters do not dominate the game, there is a current limit of 35 OU players. At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open so new players get a chance to app an OU. To keep one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is an OU cast cap of 6 OU characters per cast.

Finally, there is a total cast cap of 14 players. Every player within a cast can play up to 2 characters from that canon.

PLAYER SLOTS: 25/75 filled.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 14/35 filled.

Casts near or at Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 5/6 OUs NEAR OU CAP
Honkai Star Rail - 11/14 NEAR CAST CAP

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a canon character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

As for Original Characters (OCs), they are more than welcomed to the game! The only difference is that upon apping, we request you provide a list of "canon abilities" that the character is capable of potentially regaining while in Kaisou. You don't need to provide price points or go in-depth about the powers, and it could be linked from an info page from elsewhere- we just want to have a list of things the character could potentially regain in the future. Should your character gain more "canon abilities" that goes beyond the original list, you can let the mods know through the canon update page. This does not apply for any OCs hailing from canons with established canonical powersets that the mods can look up (example: If you are playing a FFXIV Warrior of Light, you don't need to provide a list of every jobstone as there are wikis for that. If they're a D&D character, you can just provide their classes/specs and we can look it up from there).

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is an overall OU player cap as mentioned above. You may only play 2 characters from the same canon.

Players who have been in the game consistently for one year (it doesn't have to be with the same character, just the player themselves is consistently in the game) and has never been contacted by the mods about their activity will gain two additional slots so they can app 6 characters total. In addition to that, their OU slot will increase by 1 and their Ronin AU slot will increase by 1, allowing them to app up to 3 Original Universe characters and/or 2 Ronin AU characters.

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a third character). This wait time applies even if you drop a character.

Should I include content warnings on my app?
If you are asking this question, the most likely answer is yes! These apps are not only read by a human app mod, but it's also linked on the taken list as their character info, so we cannot control who reads the app. So it is usually best practice to add a content warning if your app covers any content that may be seen as triggering, just so no one is blindsided by the app's contents.

The content warning should be done in a bold and red font so it is clearly visible and is specific about the kind of content it's warning about.

Examples of content that may require a content warning include: Abuse, Child Abuse/Neglect, Animal Abuse/death, Sexual misconduct of ANY variety, Drug/Alcohol abuse or addiction, common phobias (spiders, sharks, plane crashes, etc), human trafficking, gore, torture, suicide/self-harm, and more. Basically if you feel it's something that may be triggering to another player or the mods reading, please add a content warning just to be on the safe side.

As an aside, if your character has a history of abuse, that's okay! However, when going over their personal history we ask that you not go heavy on the details of the abuse, especially when it's a case of abuse that could feasibly happen in the real world. There are human moderators that have to read through your app, and reading a detailed account of child abuse can be A Lot. It's okay to acknowledge in their backstory that abuse happened, especially if it's a major influence to why the character are the way they are, but just keep it to barebone descriptions.

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
At this time, brand new players have the option of choosing between Normal AU, Paranormal AU, and Original Universe. Players who have been in the game at least 3 months also get the option of apping characters from the Black Order, POKEGO, Zodiac factions or a "Ronin". Details for each category are below:

Normal Modern AUs
Normals AU are exactly what it says on the tin: they're normal people. These characters have lived entirely normal lives on modern day Earth. Up until the day they joined the Libra app (aka when they join the game), they've been completely oblivious to anything strange about the world. Even if something paranormal-related did happen to them, their memories remember it as a more mundane event (for example if they got attacked by a monster, they'll remember it as a dog attack) - and it's only once they join the app may they remember how those events occurred. For the most part, their AU backstory should consist of things that could reasonably happen in a modern day Earth setting.

Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed be given 9 extra regain points (in addition to the base 4 everyone gets, so 13 points total) to spend as they wish. Any regains purchased will ICly come into effect after they join the game.

Paranormal Modern AUs
Paranormal AU characters are characters who also grew up in modern day Earth, but have experienced supernatural occurrences throughout their lives. Their experiences with the supernatural can vary wildly as long as it fits into the setting of Kaisou. Maybe they've been raised by a family aware of the supernatural, or they started as normal people and ended up crossing paths with the paranormal at some point in their lives. They may even be involved with a player-run faction (aka any faction that's not Zodiac, Black Order or POKEGO), or a new faction that you made up yourself!

These characters will get 9 extra points to be spent on elemental powers (aka Kaisou original powers) they obtained during their AU backstory. These points cannot be used for canon regains (though you are welcomed to purchase elemental powers that are similar to their canon powers, or pick something entirely new!). These points can be used for monster traits, but you need to include some explanation for why they are a monster (were they cursed? An experiment? Are their parent a monsterfucker?) and they will need to be at least half-human.

Paranormal characters can also be possessed. You can read more information about on the possesion info page.

Original Universe
Original Universe characters hail from their original world and find themselves arriving into this world through the Spirit Realm. They will not lose any memories of their canon lives, will maintain their appearances no matter how anime, and are allowed to have any items that they could reasonably carry on their persons upon arrival without any enchantments (in other words, no cheating with a mary poppins bag). If they were carrying a magical bag, the bag will split open in the Spirit Realm and all the contents will come spilling out on the ground, forcing your character to grab only what they can carry.

Power wise, OUs will be alotted 6 regain points to spend on retained abilities. Feel free to consult the regain pagefor clarity on the point values. Any powers that are not retained will have to be purchased later using regain points.

Black Order/POKEGO AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, these options is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months.

Players are limited to only have ONE character from each faction at a time (meaning you can have one Black Order member and one POKEGO member- but not more than one in each faction) UNLESS their second character started as another character type and are undergoing an apprentice program. Brand new players, don't worry about that too much.
.

Black Order/POKEGO are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. However, unlike the other AU types who only begin regaining canon memories once they join the game, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities at an earlier point in their life - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident. Sometime shortly after they began remembering their past lives, they were approached by one of two factions:

THE BLACK ORDER: A secretive group devoted to protecting and preserving the Spirit Realm, particularly any realms that are considered sacred, by dispatching agents known as "Guardians" to manage supernatural incidents of note. While it varies from member to member, the Black Order aren't exactly known for being a chill group. Some Guardians join willingly while others were "strongly persuaded" to join (though after a recent rebellion, those who wish to leave the Order are now granted permission to leave). While you don't need to be religious to be part of the Black Order nor does it adhere to a particular religion, it is said to be funded by numerous religious denominations around the world. Thanks to that, Black Order Guardians will enjoy free housing (within reason, no mansions) and a comfortable salary to live on - though some may get a daytime job/go to school to keep up a persona. After a recent rebellion, the Black Order is under new leadership who tend to rule more reasonably than the previous. Thanks to the constant unusual activity in Kaisou, they have decided to send members to Kaisou and join the app in order to investigate what's going on.

POKEGO: A group devoted to the research and understanding of the Spirit Realm. All in all, they tend to be less hardcore than the Black Order and all members join willingly, though sometimes in the past it was a means to avoid joining the Black Order. POKEGO is less structured than the Black Order, with the group actually being made up of several different cohorts that focus on different areas of study related to the Spirit Realm (such as flora, fauna, gate locations, gods, etc etc). For a long time they held a positive reputation in paranormal circles, but that recently took a serious hit thanks to Professor Willow and his faction's deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of sponsors (including Zodiac) have pulled out and funding has really dried up. This means POKEGO researchers will have to find their own housing and find ways to make ends meet (in other words, you're broke). These days, the remaining members of POKEGO are working towards rebuilding their organization and repairing the bridges that have been burned.

Characters apped will either be in the role of Black Order Guardian or POKEGO Researcher that's been sent to Kaisou to help investigate the situation, and will join the Libra app in the spirit of cooperation with Zodiac (and to keep an eye on everyone). It's up to you if the character had already lived in Kaisou for some time, or is completely new in town. While both of these groups are made up of people who remember their past lives, before the events of Kaisou it was well understood among these group that regaining past memories was an extremely rare occurrence (like 1 in a few million rare), that memories of their past lives were to be kept hush-hush from outsiders - and anyone who refused to comply with the rules would have their past memories erased and powers sealed. So some may not be entirely sure how to feel about these Zodiac app users that have a lot less rules to follow. Typically POKEGO/Black Order characters should be at least 16 years of age. If you wish to app a younger one, they will be considered a trainee and special accommodations will need to be made (aka you need to talk to the mod about it).

Due to their special situations, Black Order/POKEGO characters can start with 20 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 9 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Black Order/POKEGO characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

POKEGO characters will be allowed 1 free pokemon that's up to horse size (and isn't a legendary) upon apping. This Pokemon will be completely depowered, but for 1 point you can unlock up to 4 of the abilities that are available for the Pokemon at Level 1 in the games. Any abilities beyond that would cost the same rates as if those abilities were on a player character. Additional pokemon would cost the same rate as a magical animal companion (aka based on size and they'd start with their level 1 abilities).

Zodiac AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months.

Want to live out life as a corporate employee? Join Zodiac! Players are limited to ONE Zodiac employee at a time. Exceptions are made if a character decides to start working for Zodiac, but why would you.

Much like the Paranormal AUs, you were aware of the supernatural. But unfortunately, unlike the other AUs who received powers that'd make them protagonists in their own right -- you got the short end of the stick in the ways abilities manifested in you. Not only did your abilities make it difficult to maintain a life among normal citizens, but you were overlooked by elite groups like the Black Order and POKEGO.

Instead, you had to make peace with being an NPC in another hero's story and took a job with Zodiac. You have spent the past few months or years working for Zodiac and if you're particularly unlucky, helping clean up any messes the Libra app users have been leaving. Sure, it's a soulless corporation, but at least it's got dental for your fangs.

Then one day, the Libra App will appear on your personal devices and you'll begin recalling past memories. Perhaps your time as protagonist has come after all.

Due to their less-than-special situations, Zodiac characters start with 4 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 6 that paranormal AU get). They will also be allowed two free appearance regains (but nothing that gives them extra powers). Possessions are allowed, but they are possessed by lesser beings (as such, their contract price can be less severe if desired).

If you wish your Zodiac character to have more starting abilities, or you just like making them suffer, you can have them start off with flaws that will contribute to their overall pre-purchased point pool.

Players are limited to play one Zodiac employee at a time for now.

Zodiac Characters can have their apps submitted now, but won't make an IC appearance until July 2024 unless given mod permission.

FINALLY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THEIR FACTION'S REPUTATION, ZODIAC CHARACTERS ARE LIKELY TO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF NEGATIVE CR FROM OTHER CHARACTERS EARLY ON. Please be prepared to deal with this should you choose to app from these factions. Even if your character is a nice person, they will likely have to work extra hard to gain the trust of those around them.

Ronin AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months. In addition, it is highly recommended you discuss your plans for a Ronin AU with the mod team beforehand, as this is the app route the app mods will be strictest about.

Players are limited to only have ONE Ronin character at a time (unless you've been here for 1 year, and then it's 2).
.

Much like POKEGO/Black Order characters, Ronin are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. Just like POKEGO/Black Order, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities well before the Libra app ever came into their lives - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident.

However unlike their Black Order/POKEGO counterparts, their life path deviated. Perhaps wanting to avoid being under any faction's thumb, your character spent their life living on the run - trusting no one and never staying in one place for long. It's only when you began to hear stories of Kaisou, about the folks who have destroyed Krusnik and taken a stand against the Black Order, did you decide maybe this was a refuge safe for you.

Or perhaps you shared a much worse fate than your roaming brethren. Perhaps you were taken in by the old leadership of the Black Order, but was deemed unfit for Guardian duties for some reason. Instead of sealing your abilities and memories, you were locked away by the Black Order either for safe keeping or for research. Some of these prisoners were put under a magical sleep during their time, only awakening now to a whole new world. Or, if you were very unlucky, you were awake the entire time and only now are getting to taste freedom.

Finally, Ronin status may also apply to former Black Order members who have left the organization. Ronin status will also be applied to any Black Order members who decide to leave, but more on that later.

Due to their special situations, Ronin characters can start with 20 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 9 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Ronin characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

Please note that unused points from your app will NOT roll over once you app, so please don't hesitate to spend them all! This does not apply to Normal AUs, as your points will be rewarded once your app is confirmed and are treated like normal regain points (aka they can be spent anytime once you join the game).

Character Name: Dante Alighieri
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon Point: End of Ordeal Call 4 : Trinity Metatronius
Age: 35
Birthday: May 21st
History: Fate/ Character Nonsense, gomenasorry. His history is Here, But it’s mostly just about who he is. The chapter in which he appears in, Trinity Metaronius, can be read Here.

Personality:
🪶 Easygoing - Like water off a duck’s back, nothing bothers him. Fall into hell after making paradise for your beloved? It’s fine. We live in the garbage now.
🪶 Hopeful - Fully believes everyone is capable of overcoming their personal sin and becoming stronger after leaving it behind.
🪶 Supportive - Whatever it is you want in life--he’s willing to believe, and support you in reaching it. Doesn’t matter what it is. Go for it. Write your own story.
🪶 Unendingly Creative - He wrote the Divine Comedy. Enough said, really. He’s always thinking of things to write, poems to sketch, and is endlessly, almost irritatingly artistic.
-
🔥 Awkward - when talking, he usually laughs both at the beginning and the middle of his sentences. It’s not because he finds something funny--and he’s not laughing at you. He’s doing it to buy time to think of what the hell to say.
🔥 Petty/Holds Grudges - sometimes when you get banished from your home country due to corrupt politics you spend the rest of your life writing about the people you don’t like burning in hell.
🔥 Hyperfixates - Sometimes you write for days on end and forget to eat or sleep. Also, you have an obsession with your OC named Beatrice who doesn’t actually exist and you create an entire world for her. Jesus Christ. Chill.
🔥 Pretender - “Dante tends to be cautious and feign ignorance, often playing stupid on purpose, with Dante himself admitting that "it's just a character I’m playing." That said, the very idea of pretending to be stupid could itself be seen as a kind of stupidity.”

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Early January. His Labryrinth can absolutely be him crawling out of hell, haha.

Items: Peccati Spada : The broken-tipped sword of an angel which is designed mainly for offense rather than defense and used to carve the sins on Dante's forehead. By engraving sins as crests onto his target, the user can bring them various forms of peril, but if those sins are cleansed, the target becomes stronger. In Fate/Grand Order, Dante has forfeited the abilities that come with its True Name release. (TLDR, it’s just a heavy sword, it cannot use its ability unless I pay regain it at a different time.)

One hardcover copy of Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy. I’ll buy the ability to replicate it and give out copies later.

Retained Abilities:
- Contract/Pact/Links Slot - Basic Pact (1 Point)
- Hammerspace for his Sword (1 Point)
- Enhanced Physical Abilities Full Package (4pts)

Canon Personality: Super Creek is a dedicated runner, focused on winning her races, but also taking care of the others she’s racing against. She is the definition of the motherly type, especially towards her trainer, and her friends. If another racer, or even her trainer, fails, she will comfort them along with spoiling them rotten. (A lot of her events in Pretty Derby focus on how she wants to spoil her trainer.) She’s protective, standing up for her trainer when she’s having health issues and the public believes it’s the trainer’s fault. Even her racing outfit is based on helping others, she designed it, especially her bag, to carry medical supplies or things she might need to help take care of injured racers. She spoils her friends, even her rivals, because it’s just what she does as a big sister/motherly person.

AU Name: Audrey Beck
AU Age: 21
AU Birthday: May 27

AU History: Audrey Beck grew up in a family where being prim and proper was the biggest rule. The middle child and only girl, she was to be seen (if around) and not heard, and most of the time, she obeyed that… when she was young. Once she hit high school, she began to act out in small ways… your typical acting out by a teenager. Sneaking out, staying out late, and spending time with friends her parents didn’t typically approve of. They sent her to a private school nearby, trying to get her to socialize with people they thought were a better fit.

Things came to a head when she found out her brother was one of the family members who showed up at Noah’s apartment and ‘assisted’ him over the balcony. The next time she saw him, she punched him in the face and started yelling at him about how dangerous that was and how it could have killed Noah. This angered her parents (and the rest of the family), and she was officially sent to a boarding school in America to learn her lesson. It was there she started receiving letters from Noah, keeping her updated on what was going on in his life.

This was how she found out about Kaisou University. She planned on going into an early education program, and after telling her cousin, he’d suggested maybe enrolling there. She researched it, and ended up applying and getting accepted, now studying at the University and working an internship at a location in the city.

And, well, making sure Noah stays out of as much trouble as possible.

AU Personality Differences: There aren’t many differences, the main one being that she can have a mean streak if you harm her family or her friends. But, that comes from being the overprotective big sister.

AU Name: Commander Jane Shepard
AU Age: 32
AU Birthday: April 11

AU History: Grew up in deep poverty and ran away from home as a child. Fell in with street gangs and drug dealers as a gopher and message-runner, and was at times both witness and perpetrator of violent crimes. Met David Anderson by chance on the street, and was mentored by him into cleaning up her grades and joining the Navy as a commissioned officer, eventually holding the rank of Commander in the Navy SEALS as the very first female member to hold that position. It's an honor, truly.

For years she served in active combat scenarios and at sea with honor and distinction, proving herself and her squad to be exemplary operators and effective in all cases. She's seen some shit! She's done some shit! She cannot talk about basically any of it, because that is what "classified" means.

After her tour was up, she intended to re-up and go back in for another, when she found herself approached by the FBI on the subject of a potentially traitorous FBI agent she had unknowingly been in contact with. She helped in apprehending this corrupted agent with such efficiency and aplomb that she was offered the opportunity to join the FBI as an agent, and was still facing the choice between military and civil service, when a mysterious app appeared on her phone...

AU Personality Differences: There are no significant differences in personality between canon Shepard and AU Shepard. She's a lot less stressed, and a bit more casual than canon Shepard, given that she's at worst facing an international conflict, not the pressure of spearheading the effort to save all sentient life in the entire galaxy, and the trauma-levels involved in her military service as significantly reduced, given that she has no actually died or been vivisected, or any of the other horrible shit Shepard experiences in canon... but that's about it.

Character Name: Garrus Vakarian
Canon: Mass Effect (OU)
Canon Point: End of ME3, before the final push to The Beam (aka: the very final mission)
Age: 30 (ish)
Birthday: Picking November 7th (because it's N7 Day)

History: Wiki Link!

Canon Abilities: I'm putting this here just to be safe!!
Garrus is a turian, a tall, bipedal, bird-like species, who is a capable hand with most firearms, most specifically sniper and assault rifles. Outside of that, he is decent enough with electronics, being able to do some hacking. He's better at making repairs on said electronics, and even automotives when the need arises. He's had police training, due to his former occupation, and was, by most accounts, a very good investigator. At one point, he states he was considered one of the best in hand-to-hand combat during his military service, and is renowned for his sniping ability.

Garrus' turian biology gives him a small amount of resistance to radiation, as well as sharp, elongated talons on each hand and foot. However, due to his genetic make-up, he could very well experience a deadly allergic reaction, should he ingest any material that is not based on the same genetic material as the turians themselves--that is, anything not produced on their homeworld.

In general, turians "exhibit the characteristics of predators rather than those of prey species. Their forward-facing alert eyes give the impression that they possess outstanding eyesight and their teeth and jaws mimic the structures possessed by apex predators such as crocodiles or ancient, carnivorous dinosaurs. Needless to say, their talons on both their feet and hands seem capable of ripping flesh. Their slender bodies also seem to suggest that they are also capable of moving at high speeds" (As quoted from the Mass Effect wikipedia entry on turians.)

Because of his life on the Citadel, a galactic hub, it's reasonable to assume Garrus is multi-lingual. He at least speaks his native language, as well as the major human dialect (English, for the purposes of this game). It's stated in Mass Effect canon, that the asari language is predominant on the Citadel, so, therefore, it's likely he can understand it conversationally as well. Picking up multiple languages is a trait that comes in handy when working in a galactic hub.

Personality:
Garrus' life, and personality, can be broken down into two very important moments, with one directly influencing the other:

"Commander Shepard? Garrus Vakarian."
Meeting Commander Shepard is, probably the biggest, most important thing. He was a struggling, albeit talented, detective with the Citadel Security force, tasked with looking into the suspected doings of a rogue operative. He was frustrated, he was chafing at restrictions and "red tape". Then Shepard waltzed up, and changed everything. Shepard gave him an ideal to strive for, showed him what he could be. Shepard was, essentially, the person he'd always wanted to be - getting things done, making big changes in the galaxy. Regardless of whether Shepard tended toward the paragon (light side) or renegade (dark side) of personality, Shepard made waves, and put down the bad guys, made things better in the end. Once he's aboard their ship, Shepard becomes a role model for him, and he hangs on their every opinion. He's honored to be there, honored to serve with them. Heck, even if he's never brought on any mission, he maintains the almost idolizing status of Shepard throughout the entire game.

And then Shepard died.

"Sidonis betrayed my men."
Shepard died, and that led Garrus immediately to trying to fill the void. Okay, maybe not immediately, but fairly soon afterward. It's said he tried, for a while, to continue on the path he'd been shown (either returning to Citadel Security, or trying to become a SPECTRE operative himself), but it ultimately fell apart, without Shepard there as his beacon.

So he tried to do what Shepard would do. Go out and make changes. Make the galaxy safer. And he went to Omega - essentially the wild west of space, compressed into one nasty little asteroid run by a purple crime boss. He thought he was doing something right, he thought he was making an actual difference. He did exactly what Shepard had done - built a team of misfits and fought back against injustice. Until one of the gangs bribed someone fairly high up in Garrus' team to betray them all. That betrayal ultimately changed him, hardened him. He still believed in justice, still believed in black and white morality, but was no longer able to see his own worth. No longer confident. It gets better in the third game, but Garrus never really comes into his own as a leader because of this. He's much more comfortable letting Shepard take the lead. Even when he's given a fairly important job, he's quick to dismiss it as a position that can enact any sort of real change.

He adheres to a rigid way of seeing the world - good vs evil, wrong vs right. It's much more apparent in the second game, when this way of thinking lead him to Omega, to forming his own ragtag team of "anti-mercs", where they basically attempted to clean up the place with ruthless efficiency. You crossed their line, they took you out. He really, truly thought this would be a way to help people, though, to make lives better. One could argue that it was the downfall of said team, and his own attempt at leadership. By the time of the third game, he has mellowed on this, though more likely it's due to becoming jaded over the entire concept of "justice" than actual understanding the world doesn't entirely work out that way.

Garrus is incredibly pragmatic. Often to the point of pessimism. Many times he voices an opinion on the odds of a mission outcome, or, in the third game, the chances of anyone getting out of the Reaper War alive. He sees the negatives, more than the positives, if there are any. And while that is a good trait to have in terms of strategy, it really puts a damper on everything else in life. When faced with a positive outcome - usually one engineered by Shepard, he often expresses disbelief. They have a conversation about how, in order to save twenty billion lives, ten billion may have to die. That's just the way of the world, as far as Garrus is concerned - it's not right, it's not wrong, it just is.

He greatly admires leadership, the ability to get things done despite the odds. Basically everything Commander Shepard embodies, Garrus idolizes. At least, that's how it starts out. It turns into a real partnership by the end of the third game, regardless of what happens. But that's beside the point. Everything Shepard stands for, Garrus tremendously respects. The ability to inspire so many different minds, ways of thinking, for a cause, that is the kind of leadership he deeply admires. He says over the series that he is walking into hell with Shepard, and is one of the few characters to sign on with them in the second game without question. That's the kind of loyalty Shepard's leadership inspires, and that's the kind of leadership Garrus respects.

But it isn't just Shepard. He also admires the way General-Then-Primarch Victus (a fellow turian) can ignore politics and tradition in favor of results. He appreciates a person who can see a need, put decorum to the side, and do what needs to be done. Which is an admiration that tends to run very much against traditional turian thinking, but that is a whole other essay.

To an extent, Garrus sees a lot of failure in himself. He sees his actions on Omega as having no real effect in the long term, he sees his position as advisor to high ranking turian military in the third game as a 'token'. Part of this is probably his pessimism at work, but he doesn't consciously realize that is a bad thing - like stated previously, it's just how things are. He never outright states anything he dislikes about himself from his perspective, except for losing his squad on Omega. He maintains, throughout the entire second game, that what happened was his fault. His failure. Additionally, certain background information in the game shows a lot of his attempts to do just about anything "right" have consistently failed - as we see in a dossier of a monitored conversation between himself and his family, where he is hiding not only a grievous facial injury, but what exactly he's doing with his life, heavily implied due to shame over his own failure.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: A day or so after the app goes through - he would be pretty noticeable otherwise.

Items:
- His ME3 armor (silver & blue version, nonmagical, shields depowered)
- His rifle (currently shoots nerf bullets no matter what he does)
- A month-long set of MRE style rations
- His visor (a fancy targeting and scanning system he basically built himself, non-magical)

Retained Abilities: Garrus' abilities are all learned, he doesn't have any abilities beyond his training, and biology. If I need to elaborate or do anything in that regard I am happy to make edits!

Character Name: Sparkle
Canon: Honkai: Star Rail
Canon History: fandom wiki

Canon Personality: For the Masked Fools, there is only one thing in the whole wide world that matters. Not riches, or fame, or power... but entertainment. They are given to hedonism, and no act is too far or too foul in their pursuit of a good laugh. None embody this concept more finely than Sparkle. She detests rules, laws, and morals, believing that they only serve to place limits on the human experience. What's life without a little fun? Even if that fun is, hmm... a little explosive at times.

In the pursuit of living her life to the absolute fullest, Sparkle is willing to do anything if she believes that the result will be amusing enough, and it often only takes a little bit of a push to convince her that something might be worth her time. You want her to help you fake a death? Sure. Need someone to impersonate a public figure to pretend things aren't going to hell? Sounds like her kind of gig! In the grand performance that is life, such things are but acts to wow the crowd, and she's happy to wear any face that she needs to in order to earn their applause.

Unfortunately for those around her, such chaotic tendencies also lead to a compulsion to act out, to poke and prod in every little way in order to get a rise out of a person if she thinks they're likely to break. She's just as likely to torment a man over the loss of his sister as she is to extend an open hand and offer him her help--it only depends on which way she thinks the pendulum will swing. And a pendulum does swing both ways... meaning that she's unpredictable at her best and at her worst. Not even Sparkle knows what the next moment may bring, for herself or her unfortunate victims audience members!

AU Name: Mizuno Hanami
AU Age: 37 but she's 9 if you only count years that had her birthday
AU Birthday: February 29th

AU History: Mizuno Hanami was once a renowned stage actress based out of Tokyo, Japan. Folk would come from all across the nation just to watch her perform, no matter the show. She was used to full houses, adoring audiences who hung on her every word--who would laugh with her in moments of joy, and weep with her when all seemed lost. She lived for the stage, and the stage was home to her, as it had always been from the day she first struck out from home. Just when her career seemed to hit its greatest stride, though, her world would be turned on its head forever.

Eight years ago, her manager went behind her back in an attempt to replace her with a younger, "more beautiful" actress. Hanami was getting old, he had claimed, and people would no longer want to come to see her. These claims upset Hanami greatly, of course. This theatre was her life, her first love. How could anyone dare to take it away from her? Especially her own manager, who had been through everything with her together? No... no, she would not allow this to stand. She would not allow that girl to take *her role* from her. She would just have to make sure her replacement's first show was an absolute disaster, and then she could go back to doing what she loved forever and nothing would have to change.

Hanami's sabotage would go on to be wildly successful--perhaps too much so. As the play went on, she would tamper with the machinery backstage which moved parts of their beloved set. Pieces of her backdrop which no longer wanted to listen to her. When the time was right, and this prop made to move into place... it would instead burst into flames, catching on the curtains, the stage, and the rest of the decor. It was out of control quite before anyone could leap into action to stop it, leading to a mass evacuation of the theatre at large. There would be several reports to come out afterward about how panicked guests could have *sworn* they had seen Mizuno Hanami wander onto the stage as it was consumed by the blaze, arms spread and laughing hysterically to herself.

Those claims could never be proven, as the actress would never be seen in Tokyo again after the accident.

In her own mind, "Mizuno Hanami" died on that day. As she stood on the stage, surrounded by the burning ruins of all that had been her life for the last many years, she found herself recalling... someone else. Another life, perhaps, one that was not her own and yet was all the same. A woman just like her, who had played a role on a stage for much of her life. Who... eventually abandoned the theatre in favor of a much larger, grander performance. If all the world is her stage, after all, then the show never ends! And while those memories felt rather alien to her... she would choose adopt that woman's identity... or all of them. Adopt her names, her tricks, and her attitude. Become someone new... as easily as stepping into a new acting role.

So it went that "Sparkle" would borrow the face of the girl who wanted to steal her spotlight, if only for a little while. Use her as a mask, of sorts, to ensure that she would slip away as easily as an ember on the wind. As if Miss Hanami had simply ceased to be, she fled, traveling up and down the length and breadth of Japan in search of the stage that could truly satisfy the craving that had been born deep within her chest. A craving to be the *entertained*, rather than the entertainer. To find the thing that could leave her feeling positively Elated.

While initially she had planned to remain only in Japan, further undesirable circumstances would very quickly render that not the case at all. While spending time causing trouble in Sapporo, Miss Sparkle would be set upon by a mysterious stranger who tried their best to convince her to go with them. To direct her newfound abilities toward something useful-- but she didn't pay attention to any of the other things that they told her. This person wanted her to follow along quietly, and allow herself to be trapped under someone else's thumb again. No. She wouldn't! Never again. And so she fled again. And again. And again and again and again and again and again, for years on end, as they continued to pursue her. Always finding her again no matter what face she wore, or what life she pretended to live.

The only logical (or is it illogical?) thing to do after such persistence, Sparkle eventually decided, was to escape the country. That, she believed, would allow her to slip her pursuer for good. With no concrete destination in sight, she would use her new tricks to slip aboard a departing airline flight and leave, soon finding herself in the States. The pursuits continued, though, even in this new country, which forced her to adapt quickly and learn her way around. Somewhere in the intervening years, she would stumble into a rather fraught temporary partnership with another stranger on the run--a man with whom she shared memories of each of their past lives. They had been something approaching colleagues, then, so why not now...?

Times have changed, now, and though the weird strangers no longer pursue her quite as fervently (or at all, she's never really sure), she remains on the run. Here lately, though, she's begun to hear word that her good old friend might have settled down at long last in a city known as Kaisou...

AU Personality Differences: Hanami is a good sight more paranoid than her canon counterpart, having spent so much time evading authorities and other parties that may be interested in her abilities. And while she's less likely to cause large-scale disasters like everything that Sparkle set into motion in Penacony, that's not to say that she won't cause a little bit of mischief here and there. Think things more on the level of scattering someone's garbage bin all across their yard, or mildly vandalizing the walls of a house or business. At worst, she might hijack some influencer's phone while they're livestreaming or run up on stage during a live presentation, just for the sake of causing a scene. Major criminal acts are only on the table if things are okayed first, of course.

Character Name: James Morgan (The surname isn't actually used in any media, just found in some obscure dub notes.)
Canon: Pokemon (particularly the anime)
Canon History: Bulbapedia
James was born as the only child of an incredibly rich family, enduring formal society. He had little interest in the upper-class standards of life. When he was young, he was betrothed to a girl named Jessebelle. While initially willing, after finding out how overbearing and controlling she was, James ran away from home, leaving his faithful pet Growlie behind.

At some point, he joined a bridge bike gang, known for using training wheels, earning him the moniker 'Trainer James'.

Later, he joined Team Rocket, a criminal organization that used pokemon for their own goals of taking over the world. He was initially on unfriendly terms with Jessie. After teaming up with Meowth, they quickly made up and became good friends.
Canon Abilities: n/a?

Canon Personality:
Despite being a member of Team Rocket, he is arguably the Heart of the famous trio. More often than not, all the pokemon he caught he didn't have to battle to catch as they joined him willingly, usually after being taken cared of. He always prioritizes their health, even leaving behind a cherished Chimecho in one of his many vacation homes with his grandparents to recover from a fever. However, the friends he found in pokemon made it difficult to deal with high-society folk.

He is often the least rude of the trio and usually bears the brunt of the others' antics. Still, he goes through great effort to help his friends and, if he has to and they have a common enemy, Ash & Company.

He is good at disguises and isn't shy to cross-dress, either. He collects bottle caps and is often the crafty and tech savvy of the group, often putting together devices to help in their plans.

During the Black and White Unova arcs, James is shown to be quite devious and effective if he really set his mind to it.

AU Name: James Kirkland (Morgan is his actual government surname but he changed it to distance himself from his family)
AU Age: 21
AU Birthday: March 8th

AU History:
He still grew up as a rich only child. He didn't have many friends and the high-society life quickly grew stifling. At 18, James ran away, unable to stand his engagement with an overbearing bully of a girl. He survived for awhile on whatever money he did keep with him but soon enough was reduced to odd jobs, favours, and petty theft to get by. As a distraction, he collects bottle caps of varying rarities. Some could sell probably for a decent amount for other collectors, but it makes him happy and proud to have something of his own gotten without his family's money.

His government surname is Morgan but he changed it to Kirkland soon after running away to distance himself from his family. Partially because he is a fan of Star Trek and also Costco has been good to him in surviving.

Before arriving to Kaisou, he wasn't doing too great. Cold and hungry, James wasn't sure if he was going to survive that Winter.

AU Personality Differences: With no Pokemon and Team Rocket, James hasn't had the stability and comradery those things afforded. He might be slightly hesitant to trust anyone, however, at his lowest point he might not have a choice.

Character Name: Lucifer Morningstar
Canon: Hazbin Hotel
Canon Point: Post Season 2
Age: Olde
Birthday: The Dawn of Time (He celebrates on January 1st, though).

History: Here!

Personality: He's the personification of evil itself, according to some.

But really, what is evil anyway?

The first word that comes to mind to describe Lucifer is proud. He is, after all, the deadly sin of Pride. This Pride manifests itself in many ways: He has no concept of danger (as seen when he gets caught in Vox's trap), he's easily unsettled if he thinks someone is trying to show him up (see "Hell's Greatest Dad"), and he thinks he knows better than everyone else (see giving Eve the apple and the whole fruit of knowledge debacle).

Playing the part of pride, he is every bit the showman. He oozes theater kid energy. He's the OG light and dark bitch. Everything that Lucifer presents to the world outside is a show, where he is the main player (see: the beginning of Vox Populi).

What about when he's not on stage? Well, he's "Hell's most depressed dad." Look, Heaven wasn't super happy about that whole apple thing, and so they sentenced him to hell to live out his days, unable to see the good he's done, and unable to hurt the people he's supposed to rule over. He does fine...ish when he's with his wife and kid. But otherwise?

He locks himself up in his house and watches duck dramas all day. Someone hurts someone he loves? He breaks angry. Someone takes his power away from him? He mopes. He creates tiny ducks with flamethrowers, just because he can. It's full on "Do you think a depressed person could create this?" Energy.

Now, with all of this, is it possible the devil is just misunderstood? Yes, but also no. He did probably do the whole apple thing for the good of humanity, even if that was also rooted in believing he knew better. But, he also doesn't take a very charitable view of the people of hell. He tells Charlie their people are awful. He does care, but only when it affects people who are directly related to him. Charlie? Anytime. Lilith? He'd do something in a heartbeat. The subjects he's supposed to reign over? He doesn't super care, he didn't even bother to look at Vox until he started beefing with Charlie.

Character Name: Katsuki Bakugou
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon Point: Chapter 46; on his way home from school after having his hero name rejected
Age: 16
Birthday: April 20
History: here!

Personality:
Crude & Arrogant - Bakugou is, above all else, a rude person. He has no qualms about saying hurtful things to people's faces and very rarely shows regret for his actions or words, especially at this point in his life. He only respects people who have earned it, in his eyes, and if you haven't... well, he'll be the first to give you an insulting nickname and call you useless to your face. Because of how much he was praised in his childhood because of his quirk, this crassness also goes hand in hand with some pretty extreme arrogance. Not only will he put people down, but he so honestly believes that he's better than most people around him. He's stronger, smarter, and more capable. Which is why he'll just go and inform people - again, to their faces - that they're just extras in his story.

Prideful - you can't have arrogance without pride, really, and boy is Bakugou a bundle of pride. Admitting defeat is worse than death to this boy, and he'll go through pretty extreme lengths to avoid doing so. Additionally, anything he sees as a wound to his pride is something he'll get extremely worked up about. At his canon point, for example, he had just won a competition because an opponent didn't go all out against him. Despite technically being the winner, Bakugou couldn't accept such a hollow victory, protesting against it to the point of violence and needing to be restrained in order to accept his winning medal. This also, unfortunately, means that admitting his own mistakes and weaknesses is nearly impossible for Bakugou. At least at this point in his life.

Loud & Explosive - Bakugou has basically two modes, quiet and analyzing a fight, and loud enough to break your eardrums. This boy yells like it's his default state. He's full of energy and fire and has absolutely zero impulse control when it comes to his reactions to things. He's an animal through and through, screaming at people to "die" when they piss him off, screaming in outrage at anything and everything that gets in his way, and. Well. The boy explodes, literally, as a default. He's a very noisy creature.

But that's not the only way he's explosive. Bakugou feels... a lot. His emotions are extremely strong and volatile, he doesn't have subtle and soft reactions to the things that happen to him or around him. He feels everything at 150%, be it joy, annoyance, or upset. And because of his short fuse and naturally explosive nature, that means everything he feels and does is loud and dramatic. He doesn't just kick at the ground in frustration, he screams until his voice breaks and throws punches with tears in his eyes. He laughs and grins like an actual homicidal maniac while in a battle high.

However, there are some exceptions to this explosiveness. Bakugou has a a short list of things that are of the utmost importance to him. And when those are on the table he's able to reign himself in and focus. When his life is honestly in danger, he buckles down and focuses. Right now those moments are few and far between, but he is capable of calm rationality in a crisis.

Determined - perhaps the most important cornerstone of Bakugou's personality is his determination. It's what inspires the people around him, despite his general attitude, and is what drives him forward every day. When Bakugou sets his mind on something, he will do it. His entire existence is built on the simple thought that he will win, no matter what. No matter who he's up against, no matter what gets in his way, he will come out victorious in the end. It's not a matter of motivating himself, either. To him, this is just a fact. The sky is blue, water is wet, and Katsuki Bakugou will win.

The Dumbest Genius - despite his brutish nature, his loud arrogance, and the way he can't get along with anyone for more than five seconds at a time, Bakugou isn't just some punk who is wholly focused on violence. Bakugou is smart. Annoyingly so. He's third in his class in terms of grades, and that's at an extremely hard to get in, prestigious school. He finished first in the entrance exams, as well, something that combined his fighting ability with his book smarts. He's always been this way, really, absorbing and perfecting everything he could and studying hard to keep ahead of everyone else his age. Hell, he even made it a point to be able to read perfectly by the time he was four.

You wouldn't really know any of this at first glance, though. Bakugou is a feral little animal who looks, talks, and acts like the kind of punk who wouldn't put any effort into schoolwork. That and... he can be so clueless when it comes to people and social interactions. Books and facts he can understand. Fighting he can understand. But people? Eugh. They're stupid and annoying why would he even try?

Bad At People, Good At Everything Else - so yeah, Bakugou is just. The actual picture in the dictionary next to gifted child burnout. He sucks at interpersonal connections, sucks at understanding emotions, sucks at handling his own emotions, but he's so good at everything else he does. He's gifted. Full of natural talent in just about everything he tries to do. He's organized, a perfectionist when it comes to the things he does. He cleans nearly as a hobby, maintains a strict sleep schedule to maximize his day, is a fantastic chef with amazing knife skills, a talented musician, and good at every single sport and physical-based activity he's ever tried to do. Couple that with having a naturally strong quirk and being at near genius level intellect and... the kid is good at things. His entire life, up to the end of middle school, he was both told he was amazing and never shown that he wasn't.

Facing weakness and losses in high school after an entire childhood of never being bad at anything is really what Bakugou is struggling with the most.

A Hero, No Matter What - finally, it is worth mentioning that no matter how horribly Bakugou acts, no matter how rude or insulting or violent he tends to be, there is one indisputable truth to him. He is a hero through and through. He has never wanted to be anything but a hero. Someone who fights and wins and saves everyone, no matter what. He idolizes the greatest hero of their time, wanting to not only be like him, but to be better than him. That is his greatest truth and his biggest inspiration. No matter what anyone says or thinks about him, Bakugou knows what he is, what he's going to be. He's going to be a her. And he's going to be the best.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately upon acceptance. There is no way this idiot would have made a quiet entrance and gotten his bearings.

Because Bakugou's life can never be easy, his labyrinth is a mix between a burnt up, half-exploded alley covered in bits of sludge and a small river at the bottom of a semi-steep embankment with a log acting as a bridge up above it.
