Applications v.5

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

To see the previous app page, you can find it here: Year 1 (2022) | Year 2 (2023) | Year 3 (2024) | Year 4 (2025)

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on the first and third weekend of the month with the weekend starting with Friday. We ask that you submit your app by that 3pm EST of the Friday of the app review weekend (aka if the first weekend of the month starts Friday, June 5th - you need your app in by Friday, June 5th @ 3pm EST if you want it to be reviewed that weekend). The app mod will then review the apps when they are available (most likely sometime Friday or Saturday). Please check the calendar to see when apps will be processed next.

Should you submit the app Saturday or Sunday of an app review weekend, it will be reviewed the following app review weekend. And if you get a request for revisions on your app, if you submit the revisions BY Sunday 6pm EST of the app review weekend- it'll be processed that weekend. Otherwise, your revisions will get reviewed the following app review weekend.

To join the game, you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. To invite someone, have the person apping list the name of the person inviting them, and then the inviter should comment to their app confirming the invite. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two app processing weekends of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. Sometimes revisions will be requested if there is a need to fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player/cast cap?
There are a couple caps! The first cap ia an overall player cap. Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

The second cap is on the number of players with an OU (original universe) character. To make sure OU characters do not dominate the game, there is a current limit of 35 OU players. At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open so new players get a chance to app an OU. To keep one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is an OU cast cap of 6 OU characters per cast.

Finally, there is a total cast cap of 14 players. Every player within a cast can play up to 2 characters from that canon.

PLAYER SLOTS: 25/75 filled.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 14/35 filled.

Casts near or at Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 4/6 OUs NEAR OU CAP

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a canon character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

As for Original Characters (OCs), they are more than welcomed to the game! The only difference is that upon apping, we request you provide a list of "canon abilities" that the character is capable of potentially regaining while in Kaisou. You don't need to provide price points or go in-depth about the powers, and it could be linked from an info page from elsewhere- we just want to have a list of things the character could potentially regain in the future. Should your character gain more "canon abilities" that goes beyond the original list, you can let the mods know through the canon update page. This does not apply for any OCs hailing from canons with established canonical powersets that the mods can look up (example: If you are playing a FFXIV Warrior of Light, you don't need to provide a list of every jobstone as there are wikis for that. If they're a D&D character, you can just provide their classes/specs and we can look it up from there).

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is an overall OU player cap as mentioned above. You may only play 2 characters from the same canon.

Players who have been in the game consistently for one year (it doesn't have to be with the same character, just the player themselves is consistently in the game) and has never been contacted by the mods about their activity will gain two additional slots so they can app 6 characters total. In addition to that, their OU slot will increase by 1 and their Ronin AU slot will increase by 1, allowing them to app up to 3 Original Universe characters and/or 2 Ronin AU characters.

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a third character). This wait time applies even if you drop a character.

Should I include content warnings on my app?
If you are asking this question, the most likely answer is yes! These apps are not only read by a human app mod, but it's also linked on the taken list as their character info, so we cannot control who reads the app. So it is usually best practice to add a content warning if your app covers any content that may be seen as triggering, just so no one is blindsided by the app's contents.

The content warning should be done in a bold and red font so it is clearly visible and is specific about the kind of content it's warning about.

Examples of content that may require a content warning include: Abuse, Child Abuse/Neglect, Animal Abuse/death, Sexual misconduct of ANY variety, Drug/Alcohol abuse or addiction, common phobias (spiders, sharks, plane crashes, etc), human trafficking, gore, torture, suicide/self-harm, and more. Basically if you feel it's something that may be triggering to another player or the mods reading, please add a content warning just to be on the safe side.

As an aside, if your character has a history of abuse, that's okay! However, when going over their personal history we ask that you not go heavy on the details of the abuse, especially when it's a case of abuse that could feasibly happen in the real world. There are human moderators that have to read through your app, and reading a detailed account of child abuse can be A Lot. It's okay to acknowledge in their backstory that abuse happened, especially if it's a major influence to why the character are the way they are, but just keep it to barebone descriptions.

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
At this time, brand new players have the option of choosing between Normal AU, Paranormal AU, and Original Universe. Players who have been in the game at least 3 months also get the option of apping characters from the Black Order, POKEGO, Zodiac factions or a "Ronin". Details for each category are below:

Normal Modern AUs
Normals AU are exactly what it says on the tin: they're normal people. These characters have lived entirely normal lives on modern day Earth. Up until the day they joined the Libra app (aka when they join the game), they've been completely oblivious to anything strange about the world. Even if something paranormal-related did happen to them, their memories remember it as a more mundane event (for example if they got attacked by a monster, they'll remember it as a dog attack) - and it's only once they join the app may they remember how those events occurred. For the most part, their AU backstory should consist of things that could reasonably happen in a modern day Earth setting.

Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed be given 9 extra regain points (in addition to the base 4 everyone gets, so 13 points total) to spend as they wish. Any regains purchased will ICly come into effect after they join the game.

Paranormal Modern AUs
Paranormal AU characters are characters who also grew up in modern day Earth, but have experienced supernatural occurrences throughout their lives. Their experiences with the supernatural can vary wildly as long as it fits into the setting of Kaisou. Maybe they've been raised by a family aware of the supernatural, or they started as normal people and ended up crossing paths with the paranormal at some point in their lives. They may even be involved with a player-run faction (aka any faction that's not Zodiac, Black Order or POKEGO), or a new faction that you made up yourself!

These characters will get 9 extra points to be spent on elemental powers (aka Kaisou original powers) they obtained during their AU backstory. These points cannot be used for canon regains (though you are welcomed to purchase elemental powers that are similar to their canon powers, or pick something entirely new!). These points can be used for monster traits, but you need to include some explanation for why they are a monster (were they cursed? An experiment? Are their parent a monsterfucker?) and they will need to be at least half-human.

Paranormal characters can also be possessed. You can read more information about on the possesion info page.

Original Universe
Original Universe characters hail from their original world and find themselves arriving into this world through the Spirit Realm. They will not lose any memories of their canon lives, will maintain their appearances no matter how anime, and are allowed to have any items that they could reasonably carry on their persons upon arrival without any enchantments (in other words, no cheating with a mary poppins bag). If they were carrying a magical bag, the bag will split open in the Spirit Realm and all the contents will come spilling out on the ground, forcing your character to grab only what they can carry.

Power wise, OUs will be alotted 6 regain points to spend on retained abilities. Feel free to consult the regain pagefor clarity on the point values. Any powers that are not retained will have to be purchased later using regain points.

Black Order/POKEGO AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, these options is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months.

Players are limited to only have ONE character from each faction at a time (meaning you can have one Black Order member and one POKEGO member- but not more than one in each faction) UNLESS their second character started as another character type and are undergoing an apprentice program. Brand new players, don't worry about that too much.
.

Black Order/POKEGO are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. However, unlike the other AU types who only begin regaining canon memories once they join the game, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities at an earlier point in their life - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident. Sometime shortly after they began remembering their past lives, they were approached by one of two factions:

THE BLACK ORDER: A secretive group devoted to protecting and preserving the Spirit Realm, particularly any realms that are considered sacred, by dispatching agents known as "Guardians" to manage supernatural incidents of note. While it varies from member to member, the Black Order aren't exactly known for being a chill group. Some Guardians join willingly while others were "strongly persuaded" to join (though after a recent rebellion, those who wish to leave the Order are now granted permission to leave). While you don't need to be religious to be part of the Black Order nor does it adhere to a particular religion, it is said to be funded by numerous religious denominations around the world. Thanks to that, Black Order Guardians will enjoy free housing (within reason, no mansions) and a comfortable salary to live on - though some may get a daytime job/go to school to keep up a persona. After a recent rebellion, the Black Order is under new leadership who tend to rule more reasonably than the previous. Thanks to the constant unusual activity in Kaisou, they have decided to send members to Kaisou and join the app in order to investigate what's going on.

POKEGO: A group devoted to the research and understanding of the Spirit Realm. All in all, they tend to be less hardcore than the Black Order and all members join willingly, though sometimes in the past it was a means to avoid joining the Black Order. POKEGO is less structured than the Black Order, with the group actually being made up of several different cohorts that focus on different areas of study related to the Spirit Realm (such as flora, fauna, gate locations, gods, etc etc). For a long time they held a positive reputation in paranormal circles, but that recently took a serious hit thanks to Professor Willow and his faction's deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of sponsors (including Zodiac) have pulled out and funding has really dried up. This means POKEGO researchers will have to find their own housing and find ways to make ends meet (in other words, you're broke). These days, the remaining members of POKEGO are working towards rebuilding their organization and repairing the bridges that have been burned.

Characters apped will either be in the role of Black Order Guardian or POKEGO Researcher that's been sent to Kaisou to help investigate the situation, and will join the Libra app in the spirit of cooperation with Zodiac (and to keep an eye on everyone). It's up to you if the character had already lived in Kaisou for some time, or is completely new in town. While both of these groups are made up of people who remember their past lives, before the events of Kaisou it was well understood among these group that regaining past memories was an extremely rare occurrence (like 1 in a few million rare), that memories of their past lives were to be kept hush-hush from outsiders - and anyone who refused to comply with the rules would have their past memories erased and powers sealed. So some may not be entirely sure how to feel about these Zodiac app users that have a lot less rules to follow. Typically POKEGO/Black Order characters should be at least 16 years of age. If you wish to app a younger one, they will be considered a trainee and special accommodations will need to be made (aka you need to talk to the mod about it).

Due to their special situations, Black Order/POKEGO characters can start with 20 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 9 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Black Order/POKEGO characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

POKEGO characters will be allowed 1 free pokemon that's up to horse size (and isn't a legendary) upon apping. This Pokemon will be completely depowered, but for 1 point you can unlock up to 4 of the abilities that are available for the Pokemon at Level 1 in the games. Any abilities beyond that would cost the same rates as if those abilities were on a player character. Additional pokemon would cost the same rate as a magical animal companion (aka based on size and they'd start with their level 1 abilities).

Zodiac AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months.

Want to live out life as a corporate employee? Join Zodiac! Players are limited to ONE Zodiac employee at a time. Exceptions are made if a character decides to start working for Zodiac, but why would you.

Much like the Paranormal AUs, you were aware of the supernatural. But unfortunately, unlike the other AUs who received powers that'd make them protagonists in their own right -- you got the short end of the stick in the ways abilities manifested in you. Not only did your abilities make it difficult to maintain a life among normal citizens, but you were overlooked by elite groups like the Black Order and POKEGO.

Instead, you had to make peace with being an NPC in another hero's story and took a job with Zodiac. You have spent the past few months or years working for Zodiac and if you're particularly unlucky, helping clean up any messes the Libra app users have been leaving. Sure, it's a soulless corporation, but at least it's got dental for your fangs.

Then one day, the Libra App will appear on your personal devices and you'll begin recalling past memories. Perhaps your time as protagonist has come after all.

Due to their less-than-special situations, Zodiac characters start with 4 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 6 that paranormal AU get). They will also be allowed two free appearance regains (but nothing that gives them extra powers). Possessions are allowed, but they are possessed by lesser beings (as such, their contract price can be less severe if desired).

If you wish your Zodiac character to have more starting abilities, or you just like making them suffer, you can have them start off with flaws that will contribute to their overall pre-purchased point pool.

Players are limited to play one Zodiac employee at a time for now.

Zodiac Characters can have their apps submitted now, but won't make an IC appearance until July 2024 unless given mod permission.

FINALLY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THEIR FACTION'S REPUTATION, ZODIAC CHARACTERS ARE LIKELY TO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF NEGATIVE CR FROM OTHER CHARACTERS EARLY ON. Please be prepared to deal with this should you choose to app from these factions. Even if your character is a nice person, they will likely have to work extra hard to gain the trust of those around them.

Ronin AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months. In addition, it is highly recommended you discuss your plans for a Ronin AU with the mod team beforehand, as this is the app route the app mods will be strictest about.

Players are limited to only have ONE Ronin character at a time (unless you've been here for 1 year, and then it's 2).
.

Much like POKEGO/Black Order characters, Ronin are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. Just like POKEGO/Black Order, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities well before the Libra app ever came into their lives - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident.

However unlike their Black Order/POKEGO counterparts, their life path deviated. Perhaps wanting to avoid being under any faction's thumb, your character spent their life living on the run - trusting no one and never staying in one place for long. It's only when you began to hear stories of Kaisou, about the folks who have destroyed Krusnik and taken a stand against the Black Order, did you decide maybe this was a refuge safe for you.

Or perhaps you shared a much worse fate than your roaming brethren. Perhaps you were taken in by the old leadership of the Black Order, but was deemed unfit for Guardian duties for some reason. Instead of sealing your abilities and memories, you were locked away by the Black Order either for safe keeping or for research. Some of these prisoners were put under a magical sleep during their time, only awakening now to a whole new world. Or, if you were very unlucky, you were awake the entire time and only now are getting to taste freedom.

Finally, Ronin status may also apply to former Black Order members who have left the organization. Ronin status will also be applied to any Black Order members who decide to leave, but more on that later.

Due to their special situations, Ronin characters can start with 20 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 9 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Ronin characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

Please note that unused points from your app will NOT roll over once you app, so please don't hesitate to spend them all! This does not apply to Normal AUs, as your points will be rewarded once your app is confirmed and are treated like normal regain points (aka they can be spent anytime once you join the game).

Character Name: Dante Alighieri
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon Point: End of Ordeal Call 4 : Trinity Metatronius
Age: 35
Birthday: May 21st
History: Fate/ Character Nonsense, gomenasorry. His history is Here, But it’s mostly just about who he is. The chapter in which he appears in, Trinity Metaronius, can be read Here.

Personality:
🪶 Easygoing - Like water off a duck’s back, nothing bothers him. Fall into hell after making paradise for your beloved? It’s fine. We live in the garbage now.
🪶 Hopeful - Fully believes everyone is capable of overcoming their personal sin and becoming stronger after leaving it behind.
🪶 Supportive - Whatever it is you want in life--he’s willing to believe, and support you in reaching it. Doesn’t matter what it is. Go for it. Write your own story.
🪶 Unendingly Creative - He wrote the Divine Comedy. Enough said, really. He’s always thinking of things to write, poems to sketch, and is endlessly, almost irritatingly artistic.
-
🔥 Awkward - when talking, he usually laughs both at the beginning and the middle of his sentences. It’s not because he finds something funny--and he’s not laughing at you. He’s doing it to buy time to think of what the hell to say.
🔥 Petty/Holds Grudges - sometimes when you get banished from your home country due to corrupt politics you spend the rest of your life writing about the people you don’t like burning in hell.
🔥 Hyperfixates - Sometimes you write for days on end and forget to eat or sleep. Also, you have an obsession with your OC named Beatrice who doesn’t actually exist and you create an entire world for her. Jesus Christ. Chill.
🔥 Pretender - “Dante tends to be cautious and feign ignorance, often playing stupid on purpose, with Dante himself admitting that "it's just a character I’m playing." That said, the very idea of pretending to be stupid could itself be seen as a kind of stupidity.”

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Early January. His Labryrinth can absolutely be him crawling out of hell, haha.

Items: Peccati Spada : The broken-tipped sword of an angel which is designed mainly for offense rather than defense and used to carve the sins on Dante's forehead. By engraving sins as crests onto his target, the user can bring them various forms of peril, but if those sins are cleansed, the target becomes stronger. In Fate/Grand Order, Dante has forfeited the abilities that come with its True Name release. (TLDR, it’s just a heavy sword, it cannot use its ability unless I pay regain it at a different time.)

One hardcover copy of Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy. I’ll buy the ability to replicate it and give out copies later.

Retained Abilities:
- Contract/Pact/Links Slot - Basic Pact (1 Point)
- Hammerspace for his Sword (1 Point)
- Enhanced Physical Abilities Full Package (4pts)

Canon Personality: Super Creek is a dedicated runner, focused on winning her races, but also taking care of the others she’s racing against. She is the definition of the motherly type, especially towards her trainer, and her friends. If another racer, or even her trainer, fails, she will comfort them along with spoiling them rotten. (A lot of her events in Pretty Derby focus on how she wants to spoil her trainer.) She’s protective, standing up for her trainer when she’s having health issues and the public believes it’s the trainer’s fault. Even her racing outfit is based on helping others, she designed it, especially her bag, to carry medical supplies or things she might need to help take care of injured racers. She spoils her friends, even her rivals, because it’s just what she does as a big sister/motherly person.

AU Name: Audrey Beck
AU Age: 21
AU Birthday: May 27

AU History: Audrey Beck grew up in a family where being prim and proper was the biggest rule. The middle child and only girl, she was to be seen (if around) and not heard, and most of the time, she obeyed that… when she was young. Once she hit high school, she began to act out in small ways… your typical acting out by a teenager. Sneaking out, staying out late, and spending time with friends her parents didn’t typically approve of. They sent her to a private school nearby, trying to get her to socialize with people they thought were a better fit.

Things came to a head when she found out her brother was one of the family members who showed up at Noah’s apartment and ‘assisted’ him over the balcony. The next time she saw him, she punched him in the face and started yelling at him about how dangerous that was and how it could have killed Noah. This angered her parents (and the rest of the family), and she was officially sent to a boarding school in America to learn her lesson. It was there she started receiving letters from Noah, keeping her updated on what was going on in his life.

This was how she found out about Kaisou University. She planned on going into an early education program, and after telling her cousin, he’d suggested maybe enrolling there. She researched it, and ended up applying and getting accepted, now studying at the University and working an internship at a location in the city.

And, well, making sure Noah stays out of as much trouble as possible.

AU Personality Differences: There aren’t many differences, the main one being that she can have a mean streak if you harm her family or her friends. But, that comes from being the overprotective big sister.

AU Name: Commander Jane Shepard
AU Age: 32
AU Birthday: April 11

AU History: Grew up in deep poverty and ran away from home as a child. Fell in with street gangs and drug dealers as a gopher and message-runner, and was at times both witness and perpetrator of violent crimes. Met David Anderson by chance on the street, and was mentored by him into cleaning up her grades and joining the Navy as a commissioned officer, eventually holding the rank of Commander in the Navy SEALS as the very first female member to hold that position. It's an honor, truly.

For years she served in active combat scenarios and at sea with honor and distinction, proving herself and her squad to be exemplary operators and effective in all cases. She's seen some shit! She's done some shit! She cannot talk about basically any of it, because that is what "classified" means.

After her tour was up, she intended to re-up and go back in for another, when she found herself approached by the FBI on the subject of a potentially traitorous FBI agent she had unknowingly been in contact with. She helped in apprehending this corrupted agent with such efficiency and aplomb that she was offered the opportunity to join the FBI as an agent, and was still facing the choice between military and civil service, when a mysterious app appeared on her phone...

AU Personality Differences: There are no significant differences in personality between canon Shepard and AU Shepard. She's a lot less stressed, and a bit more casual than canon Shepard, given that she's at worst facing an international conflict, not the pressure of spearheading the effort to save all sentient life in the entire galaxy, and the trauma-levels involved in her military service as significantly reduced, given that she has no actually died or been vivisected, or any of the other horrible shit Shepard experiences in canon... but that's about it.

Character Name: Garrus Vakarian
Canon: Mass Effect (OU)
Canon Point: End of ME3, before the final push to The Beam (aka: the very final mission)
Age: 30 (ish)
Birthday: Picking November 7th (because it's N7 Day)

History: Wiki Link!

Canon Abilities: I'm putting this here just to be safe!!
Garrus is a turian, a tall, bipedal, bird-like species, who is a capable hand with most firearms, most specifically sniper and assault rifles. Outside of that, he is decent enough with electronics, being able to do some hacking. He's better at making repairs on said electronics, and even automotives when the need arises. He's had police training, due to his former occupation, and was, by most accounts, a very good investigator. At one point, he states he was considered one of the best in hand-to-hand combat during his military service, and is renowned for his sniping ability.

Garrus' turian biology gives him a small amount of resistance to radiation, as well as sharp, elongated talons on each hand and foot. However, due to his genetic make-up, he could very well experience a deadly allergic reaction, should he ingest any material that is not based on the same genetic material as the turians themselves--that is, anything not produced on their homeworld.

In general, turians "exhibit the characteristics of predators rather than those of prey species. Their forward-facing alert eyes give the impression that they possess outstanding eyesight and their teeth and jaws mimic the structures possessed by apex predators such as crocodiles or ancient, carnivorous dinosaurs. Needless to say, their talons on both their feet and hands seem capable of ripping flesh. Their slender bodies also seem to suggest that they are also capable of moving at high speeds" (As quoted from the Mass Effect wikipedia entry on turians.)

Because of his life on the Citadel, a galactic hub, it's reasonable to assume Garrus is multi-lingual. He at least speaks his native language, as well as the major human dialect (English, for the purposes of this game). It's stated in Mass Effect canon, that the asari language is predominant on the Citadel, so, therefore, it's likely he can understand it conversationally as well. Picking up multiple languages is a trait that comes in handy when working in a galactic hub.

Personality:
Garrus' life, and personality, can be broken down into two very important moments, with one directly influencing the other:

"Commander Shepard? Garrus Vakarian."
Meeting Commander Shepard is, probably the biggest, most important thing. He was a struggling, albeit talented, detective with the Citadel Security force, tasked with looking into the suspected doings of a rogue operative. He was frustrated, he was chafing at restrictions and "red tape". Then Shepard waltzed up, and changed everything. Shepard gave him an ideal to strive for, showed him what he could be. Shepard was, essentially, the person he'd always wanted to be - getting things done, making big changes in the galaxy. Regardless of whether Shepard tended toward the paragon (light side) or renegade (dark side) of personality, Shepard made waves, and put down the bad guys, made things better in the end. Once he's aboard their ship, Shepard becomes a role model for him, and he hangs on their every opinion. He's honored to be there, honored to serve with them. Heck, even if he's never brought on any mission, he maintains the almost idolizing status of Shepard throughout the entire game.

And then Shepard died.

"Sidonis betrayed my men."
Shepard died, and that led Garrus immediately to trying to fill the void. Okay, maybe not immediately, but fairly soon afterward. It's said he tried, for a while, to continue on the path he'd been shown (either returning to Citadel Security, or trying to become a SPECTRE operative himself), but it ultimately fell apart, without Shepard there as his beacon.

So he tried to do what Shepard would do. Go out and make changes. Make the galaxy safer. And he went to Omega - essentially the wild west of space, compressed into one nasty little asteroid run by a purple crime boss. He thought he was doing something right, he thought he was making an actual difference. He did exactly what Shepard had done - built a team of misfits and fought back against injustice. Until one of the gangs bribed someone fairly high up in Garrus' team to betray them all. That betrayal ultimately changed him, hardened him. He still believed in justice, still believed in black and white morality, but was no longer able to see his own worth. No longer confident. It gets better in the third game, but Garrus never really comes into his own as a leader because of this. He's much more comfortable letting Shepard take the lead. Even when he's given a fairly important job, he's quick to dismiss it as a position that can enact any sort of real change.

He adheres to a rigid way of seeing the world - good vs evil, wrong vs right. It's much more apparent in the second game, when this way of thinking lead him to Omega, to forming his own ragtag team of "anti-mercs", where they basically attempted to clean up the place with ruthless efficiency. You crossed their line, they took you out. He really, truly thought this would be a way to help people, though, to make lives better. One could argue that it was the downfall of said team, and his own attempt at leadership. By the time of the third game, he has mellowed on this, though more likely it's due to becoming jaded over the entire concept of "justice" than actual understanding the world doesn't entirely work out that way.

Garrus is incredibly pragmatic. Often to the point of pessimism. Many times he voices an opinion on the odds of a mission outcome, or, in the third game, the chances of anyone getting out of the Reaper War alive. He sees the negatives, more than the positives, if there are any. And while that is a good trait to have in terms of strategy, it really puts a damper on everything else in life. When faced with a positive outcome - usually one engineered by Shepard, he often expresses disbelief. They have a conversation about how, in order to save twenty billion lives, ten billion may have to die. That's just the way of the world, as far as Garrus is concerned - it's not right, it's not wrong, it just is.

He greatly admires leadership, the ability to get things done despite the odds. Basically everything Commander Shepard embodies, Garrus idolizes. At least, that's how it starts out. It turns into a real partnership by the end of the third game, regardless of what happens. But that's beside the point. Everything Shepard stands for, Garrus tremendously respects. The ability to inspire so many different minds, ways of thinking, for a cause, that is the kind of leadership he deeply admires. He says over the series that he is walking into hell with Shepard, and is one of the few characters to sign on with them in the second game without question. That's the kind of loyalty Shepard's leadership inspires, and that's the kind of leadership Garrus respects.

But it isn't just Shepard. He also admires the way General-Then-Primarch Victus (a fellow turian) can ignore politics and tradition in favor of results. He appreciates a person who can see a need, put decorum to the side, and do what needs to be done. Which is an admiration that tends to run very much against traditional turian thinking, but that is a whole other essay.

To an extent, Garrus sees a lot of failure in himself. He sees his actions on Omega as having no real effect in the long term, he sees his position as advisor to high ranking turian military in the third game as a 'token'. Part of this is probably his pessimism at work, but he doesn't consciously realize that is a bad thing - like stated previously, it's just how things are. He never outright states anything he dislikes about himself from his perspective, except for losing his squad on Omega. He maintains, throughout the entire second game, that what happened was his fault. His failure. Additionally, certain background information in the game shows a lot of his attempts to do just about anything "right" have consistently failed - as we see in a dossier of a monitored conversation between himself and his family, where he is hiding not only a grievous facial injury, but what exactly he's doing with his life, heavily implied due to shame over his own failure.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: A day or so after the app goes through - he would be pretty noticeable otherwise.

Items:
- His ME3 armor (silver & blue version, nonmagical, shields depowered)
- His rifle (currently shoots nerf bullets no matter what he does)
- A month-long set of MRE style rations
- His visor (a fancy targeting and scanning system he basically built himself, non-magical)

Retained Abilities: Garrus' abilities are all learned, he doesn't have any abilities beyond his training, and biology. If I need to elaborate or do anything in that regard I am happy to make edits!

Character Name: Sparkle
Canon: Honkai: Star Rail
Canon History: fandom wiki

Canon Personality: For the Masked Fools, there is only one thing in the whole wide world that matters. Not riches, or fame, or power... but entertainment. They are given to hedonism, and no act is too far or too foul in their pursuit of a good laugh. None embody this concept more finely than Sparkle. She detests rules, laws, and morals, believing that they only serve to place limits on the human experience. What's life without a little fun? Even if that fun is, hmm... a little explosive at times.

In the pursuit of living her life to the absolute fullest, Sparkle is willing to do anything if she believes that the result will be amusing enough, and it often only takes a little bit of a push to convince her that something might be worth her time. You want her to help you fake a death? Sure. Need someone to impersonate a public figure to pretend things aren't going to hell? Sounds like her kind of gig! In the grand performance that is life, such things are but acts to wow the crowd, and she's happy to wear any face that she needs to in order to earn their applause.

Unfortunately for those around her, such chaotic tendencies also lead to a compulsion to act out, to poke and prod in every little way in order to get a rise out of a person if she thinks they're likely to break. She's just as likely to torment a man over the loss of his sister as she is to extend an open hand and offer him her help--it only depends on which way she thinks the pendulum will swing. And a pendulum does swing both ways... meaning that she's unpredictable at her best and at her worst. Not even Sparkle knows what the next moment may bring, for herself or her unfortunate victims audience members!

AU Name: Mizuno Hanami
AU Age: 37 but she's 9 if you only count years that had her birthday
AU Birthday: February 29th

AU History: Mizuno Hanami was once a renowned stage actress based out of Tokyo, Japan. Folk would come from all across the nation just to watch her perform, no matter the show. She was used to full houses, adoring audiences who hung on her every word--who would laugh with her in moments of joy, and weep with her when all seemed lost. She lived for the stage, and the stage was home to her, as it had always been from the day she first struck out from home. Just when her career seemed to hit its greatest stride, though, her world would be turned on its head forever.

Eight years ago, her manager went behind her back in an attempt to replace her with a younger, "more beautiful" actress. Hanami was getting old, he had claimed, and people would no longer want to come to see her. These claims upset Hanami greatly, of course. This theatre was her life, her first love. How could anyone dare to take it away from her? Especially her own manager, who had been through everything with her together? No... no, she would not allow this to stand. She would not allow that girl to take *her role* from her. She would just have to make sure her replacement's first show was an absolute disaster, and then she could go back to doing what she loved forever and nothing would have to change.

Hanami's sabotage would go on to be wildly successful--perhaps too much so. As the play went on, she would tamper with the machinery backstage which moved parts of their beloved set. Pieces of her backdrop which no longer wanted to listen to her. When the time was right, and this prop made to move into place... it would instead burst into flames, catching on the curtains, the stage, and the rest of the decor. It was out of control quite before anyone could leap into action to stop it, leading to a mass evacuation of the theatre at large. There would be several reports to come out afterward about how panicked guests could have *sworn* they had seen Mizuno Hanami wander onto the stage as it was consumed by the blaze, arms spread and laughing hysterically to herself.

Those claims could never be proven, as the actress would never be seen in Tokyo again after the accident.

In her own mind, "Mizuno Hanami" died on that day. As she stood on the stage, surrounded by the burning ruins of all that had been her life for the last many years, she found herself recalling... someone else. Another life, perhaps, one that was not her own and yet was all the same. A woman just like her, who had played a role on a stage for much of her life. Who... eventually abandoned the theatre in favor of a much larger, grander performance. If all the world is her stage, after all, then the show never ends! And while those memories felt rather alien to her... she would choose adopt that woman's identity... or all of them. Adopt her names, her tricks, and her attitude. Become someone new... as easily as stepping into a new acting role.

So it went that "Sparkle" would borrow the face of the girl who wanted to steal her spotlight, if only for a little while. Use her as a mask, of sorts, to ensure that she would slip away as easily as an ember on the wind. As if Miss Hanami had simply ceased to be, she fled, traveling up and down the length and breadth of Japan in search of the stage that could truly satisfy the craving that had been born deep within her chest. A craving to be the *entertained*, rather than the entertainer. To find the thing that could leave her feeling positively Elated.

While initially she had planned to remain only in Japan, further undesirable circumstances would very quickly render that not the case at all. While spending time causing trouble in Sapporo, Miss Sparkle would be set upon by a mysterious stranger who tried their best to convince her to go with them. To direct her newfound abilities toward something useful-- but she didn't pay attention to any of the other things that they told her. This person wanted her to follow along quietly, and allow herself to be trapped under someone else's thumb again. No. She wouldn't! Never again. And so she fled again. And again. And again and again and again and again and again, for years on end, as they continued to pursue her. Always finding her again no matter what face she wore, or what life she pretended to live.

The only logical (or is it illogical?) thing to do after such persistence, Sparkle eventually decided, was to escape the country. That, she believed, would allow her to slip her pursuer for good. With no concrete destination in sight, she would use her new tricks to slip aboard a departing airline flight and leave, soon finding herself in the States. The pursuits continued, though, even in this new country, which forced her to adapt quickly and learn her way around. Somewhere in the intervening years, she would stumble into a rather fraught temporary partnership with another stranger on the run--a man with whom she shared memories of each of their past lives. They had been something approaching colleagues, then, so why not now...?

Times have changed, now, and though the weird strangers no longer pursue her quite as fervently (or at all, she's never really sure), she remains on the run. Here lately, though, she's begun to hear word that her good old friend might have settled down at long last in a city known as Kaisou...

AU Personality Differences: Hanami is a good sight more paranoid than her canon counterpart, having spent so much time evading authorities and other parties that may be interested in her abilities. And while she's less likely to cause large-scale disasters like everything that Sparkle set into motion in Penacony, that's not to say that she won't cause a little bit of mischief here and there. Think things more on the level of scattering someone's garbage bin all across their yard, or mildly vandalizing the walls of a house or business. At worst, she might hijack some influencer's phone while they're livestreaming or run up on stage during a live presentation, just for the sake of causing a scene. Major criminal acts are only on the table if things are okayed first, of course.

Purchased Powers:
Shapeshifting - Medium (3 points)
Sleep Induction - High (3 points)
Hide - Master (4 points)
Invisibility - High (4 points)

Character Name: James Morgan (The surname isn't actually used in any media, just found in some obscure dub notes.)
Canon: Pokemon (particularly the anime)
Canon History: Bulbapedia
James was born as the only child of an incredibly rich family, enduring formal society. He had little interest in the upper-class standards of life. When he was young, he was betrothed to a girl named Jessebelle. While initially willing, after finding out how overbearing and controlling she was, James ran away from home, leaving his faithful pet Growlie behind.

At some point, he joined a bridge bike gang, known for using training wheels, earning him the moniker 'Trainer James'.

Later, he joined Team Rocket, a criminal organization that used pokemon for their own goals of taking over the world. He was initially on unfriendly terms with Jessie. After teaming up with Meowth, they quickly made up and became good friends.
Canon Abilities: n/a?

Canon Personality:
Despite being a member of Team Rocket, he is arguably the Heart of the famous trio. More often than not, all the pokemon he caught he didn't have to battle to catch as they joined him willingly, usually after being taken cared of. He always prioritizes their health, even leaving behind a cherished Chimecho in one of his many vacation homes with his grandparents to recover from a fever. However, the friends he found in pokemon made it difficult to deal with high-society folk.

He is often the least rude of the trio and usually bears the brunt of the others' antics. Still, he goes through great effort to help his friends and, if he has to and they have a common enemy, Ash & Company.

He is good at disguises and isn't shy to cross-dress, either. He collects bottle caps and is often the crafty and tech savvy of the group, often putting together devices to help in their plans.

During the Black and White Unova arcs, James is shown to be quite devious and effective if he really set his mind to it.

AU Name: James Kirkland (Morgan is his actual government surname but he changed it to distance himself from his family)
AU Age: 21
AU Birthday: March 8th

AU History:
He still grew up as a rich only child. He didn't have many friends and the high-society life quickly grew stifling. At 18, James ran away, unable to stand his engagement with an overbearing bully of a girl. He survived for awhile on whatever money he did keep with him but soon enough was reduced to odd jobs, favours, and petty theft to get by. As a distraction, he collects bottle caps of varying rarities. Some could sell probably for a decent amount for other collectors, but it makes him happy and proud to have something of his own gotten without his family's money.

His government surname is Morgan but he changed it to Kirkland soon after running away to distance himself from his family. Partially because he is a fan of Star Trek and also Costco has been good to him in surviving.

Before arriving to Kaisou, he wasn't doing too great. Cold and hungry, James wasn't sure if he was going to survive that Winter.

AU Personality Differences: With no Pokemon and Team Rocket, James hasn't had the stability and comradery those things afforded. He might be slightly hesitant to trust anyone, however, at his lowest point he might not have a choice.

Character Name: Lucifer Morningstar
Canon: Hazbin Hotel
Canon Point: Post Season 2
Age: Olde
Birthday: The Dawn of Time (He celebrates on January 1st, though).

History: Here!

Personality: He's the personification of evil itself, according to some.

But really, what is evil anyway?

The first word that comes to mind to describe Lucifer is proud. He is, after all, the deadly sin of Pride. This Pride manifests itself in many ways: He has no concept of danger (as seen when he gets caught in Vox's trap), he's easily unsettled if he thinks someone is trying to show him up (see "Hell's Greatest Dad"), and he thinks he knows better than everyone else (see giving Eve the apple and the whole fruit of knowledge debacle).

Playing the part of pride, he is every bit the showman. He oozes theater kid energy. He's the OG light and dark bitch. Everything that Lucifer presents to the world outside is a show, where he is the main player (see: the beginning of Vox Populi).

What about when he's not on stage? Well, he's "Hell's most depressed dad." Look, Heaven wasn't super happy about that whole apple thing, and so they sentenced him to hell to live out his days, unable to see the good he's done, and unable to hurt the people he's supposed to rule over. He does fine...ish when he's with his wife and kid. But otherwise?

He locks himself up in his house and watches duck dramas all day. Someone hurts someone he loves? He breaks angry. Someone takes his power away from him? He mopes. He creates tiny ducks with flamethrowers, just because he can. It's full on "Do you think a depressed person could create this?" Energy.

Now, with all of this, is it possible the devil is just misunderstood? Yes, but also no. He did probably do the whole apple thing for the good of humanity, even if that was also rooted in believing he knew better. But, he also doesn't take a very charitable view of the people of hell. He tells Charlie their people are awful. He does care, but only when it affects people who are directly related to him. Charlie? Anytime. Lilith? He'd do something in a heartbeat. The subjects he's supposed to reign over? He doesn't super care, he didn't even bother to look at Vox until he started beefing with Charlie.

Character Name: Katsuki Bakugou
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon Point: Chapter 46; on his way home from school after having his hero name rejected
Age: 16
Birthday: April 20
History: here!

Personality:
Crude & Arrogant - Bakugou is, above all else, a rude person. He has no qualms about saying hurtful things to people's faces and very rarely shows regret for his actions or words, especially at this point in his life. He only respects people who have earned it, in his eyes, and if you haven't... well, he'll be the first to give you an insulting nickname and call you useless to your face. Because of how much he was praised in his childhood because of his quirk, this crassness also goes hand in hand with some pretty extreme arrogance. Not only will he put people down, but he so honestly believes that he's better than most people around him. He's stronger, smarter, and more capable. Which is why he'll just go and inform people - again, to their faces - that they're just extras in his story.

Prideful - you can't have arrogance without pride, really, and boy is Bakugou a bundle of pride. Admitting defeat is worse than death to this boy, and he'll go through pretty extreme lengths to avoid doing so. Additionally, anything he sees as a wound to his pride is something he'll get extremely worked up about. At his canon point, for example, he had just won a competition because an opponent didn't go all out against him. Despite technically being the winner, Bakugou couldn't accept such a hollow victory, protesting against it to the point of violence and needing to be restrained in order to accept his winning medal. This also, unfortunately, means that admitting his own mistakes and weaknesses is nearly impossible for Bakugou. At least at this point in his life.

Loud & Explosive - Bakugou has basically two modes, quiet and analyzing a fight, and loud enough to break your eardrums. This boy yells like it's his default state. He's full of energy and fire and has absolutely zero impulse control when it comes to his reactions to things. He's an animal through and through, screaming at people to "die" when they piss him off, screaming in outrage at anything and everything that gets in his way, and. Well. The boy explodes, literally, as a default. He's a very noisy creature.

But that's not the only way he's explosive. Bakugou feels... a lot. His emotions are extremely strong and volatile, he doesn't have subtle and soft reactions to the things that happen to him or around him. He feels everything at 150%, be it joy, annoyance, or upset. And because of his short fuse and naturally explosive nature, that means everything he feels and does is loud and dramatic. He doesn't just kick at the ground in frustration, he screams until his voice breaks and throws punches with tears in his eyes. He laughs and grins like an actual homicidal maniac while in a battle high.

However, there are some exceptions to this explosiveness. Bakugou has a a short list of things that are of the utmost importance to him. And when those are on the table he's able to reign himself in and focus. When his life is honestly in danger, he buckles down and focuses. Right now those moments are few and far between, but he is capable of calm rationality in a crisis.

Determined - perhaps the most important cornerstone of Bakugou's personality is his determination. It's what inspires the people around him, despite his general attitude, and is what drives him forward every day. When Bakugou sets his mind on something, he will do it. His entire existence is built on the simple thought that he will win, no matter what. No matter who he's up against, no matter what gets in his way, he will come out victorious in the end. It's not a matter of motivating himself, either. To him, this is just a fact. The sky is blue, water is wet, and Katsuki Bakugou will win.

The Dumbest Genius - despite his brutish nature, his loud arrogance, and the way he can't get along with anyone for more than five seconds at a time, Bakugou isn't just some punk who is wholly focused on violence. Bakugou is smart. Annoyingly so. He's third in his class in terms of grades, and that's at an extremely hard to get in, prestigious school. He finished first in the entrance exams, as well, something that combined his fighting ability with his book smarts. He's always been this way, really, absorbing and perfecting everything he could and studying hard to keep ahead of everyone else his age. Hell, he even made it a point to be able to read perfectly by the time he was four.

You wouldn't really know any of this at first glance, though. Bakugou is a feral little animal who looks, talks, and acts like the kind of punk who wouldn't put any effort into schoolwork. That and... he can be so clueless when it comes to people and social interactions. Books and facts he can understand. Fighting he can understand. But people? Eugh. They're stupid and annoying why would he even try?

Bad At People, Good At Everything Else - so yeah, Bakugou is just. The actual picture in the dictionary next to gifted child burnout. He sucks at interpersonal connections, sucks at understanding emotions, sucks at handling his own emotions, but he's so good at everything else he does. He's gifted. Full of natural talent in just about everything he tries to do. He's organized, a perfectionist when it comes to the things he does. He cleans nearly as a hobby, maintains a strict sleep schedule to maximize his day, is a fantastic chef with amazing knife skills, a talented musician, and good at every single sport and physical-based activity he's ever tried to do. Couple that with having a naturally strong quirk and being at near genius level intellect and... the kid is good at things. His entire life, up to the end of middle school, he was both told he was amazing and never shown that he wasn't.

Facing weakness and losses in high school after an entire childhood of never being bad at anything is really what Bakugou is struggling with the most.

A Hero, No Matter What - finally, it is worth mentioning that no matter how horribly Bakugou acts, no matter how rude or insulting or violent he tends to be, there is one indisputable truth to him. He is a hero through and through. He has never wanted to be anything but a hero. Someone who fights and wins and saves everyone, no matter what. He idolizes the greatest hero of their time, wanting to not only be like him, but to be better than him. That is his greatest truth and his biggest inspiration. No matter what anyone says or thinks about him, Bakugou knows what he is, what he's going to be. He's going to be a her. And he's going to be the best.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately upon acceptance. There is no way this idiot would have made a quiet entrance and gotten his bearings.

Because Bakugou's life can never be easy, his labyrinth is a mix between a burnt up, half-exploded alley covered in bits of sludge and a small river at the bottom of a semi-steep embankment with a log acting as a bridge up above it. Basically, a typical small Japanese city suburb, where nature is just a few blocks away from the aftermath of a villain incident.
Items: His U.A. school uniform, cell phone, and wallet with a very special collectible securely tucked inside.
Retained Abilities:
Conjure Combustion - Medium - 4
Wings of FireNitroglycerin - Low - 1

Character Name: Izuku Midoriya
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon History: Wiki!

Canon Personality:

🥦Stubborn. Nothing stops him when he's put his mind to something.
🥦Kind. Izuku can't help himself from helping others. Even when it's almost guaranteed that the hand he reaches out to someone will be bitten, he has to help.
🥦Desperate. There is nothing hinged about how this kid does anything. Any other trait of his should have this as a descriptor to it. He's desperately stubborn. He's desperately kind. He will carve pieces of himself away if it means making a difference in a single moment and forcing the world to bend to his idea of saving someone. There is a literal fight wherein he wins by hurting himself faster than someone can rewind his body. He permanently disfigured his hand just to make one classmate get his head out of his ass. Nothing is off the table with this kid.
🥦Low Self-Esteem. Izuku could cure cancer and he would refuse to attribute any of his success to his own will and power. He sees everything good he's ever given as something borrowed, because he sees himself as beneath the people around him.
🥦Passionate. When Izuku decides something, he puts all of his heart into that thing. He doesn't half-ass any of it.
🥦Obsessive. If Izuku likes something, he will know every detail of that thing to the point that it scares people. His room is a shrine to his hero. He made an entire rescue plan around knowing who Bakugou would actually accept help from. When he cares, he cares way too much. He makes it work for him, though.
🥦Empathetic. Izuku is insanely good at reading people's patterns and moods, and he picks up on changes to these things in an instant. From his exposure to the pressure of society and harboring a dream he thought he would never physically have a chance at, he's got a lot of sobering experiences to relate to others with.

AU Name: N/A
AU Age: 16
AU Birthday: 7/15
Faction: POKEGO

AU History: Izuku has grown up with an awareness of the Spirit Realm, as he was very young when he got his first memories of his past life. He's grown up alongside his past self, in a way, dreaming and remembering things he knows he didn't experience himself; it's honestly what starts his obsessive journaling. He keeps the timeline straight, as much as he can, writing down every detail he remembers and how he felt in those flashes. And that skill, grown from an early age, is how he manages to get steered toward POKEGO. He's clearly remembered things, he's clearly seeing things, and Izuku isn't good at hiding things--as a kid, it was POKEGO or get picked up by TBO.

Once in POKEGO, he met his Hawlucha. He was an easily-bullied kid, so having a friend that encouraged him to be stronger was a blessing. It also helped curb his attention toward the Spirit Realms, learning about more pokemon in the process. All of his focus has been on acquiring more knowledge, and POKEGO was the perfect place to let that part of him grow.

Since he's wanted for years to explore more Spirit Realms, and not just the ones related to pokemon, he's worked with long-distance family to get moved to Kaisou to be on the ground where all the craziest stuff keeps happening. He's a researcher through and through, and his attention to detail has made him pretty invaluable to any teams he's on!

AU Personality Differences: Not actually having a dedicated bully from age 4 has been a double-edged sword. On one hand, he has a slightly easier time talking to people. On the other hand, he is nowhere near as skilled at handling his anxiety when it crops up, or deescalating a situation. He's got some memories of doing some crazy dangerous stuff, sure, but as stated before: if Izuku is good at anything, it's attributing his positive traits to the people around him. That past life sure was brave!

SPOILERS FOR VARKA'S STORY

Character Name: Varka
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon History: Varka

Canon Personality: 🐺 The most dad vibes you'll ever get. Varka likes to take care of people and be there for them when he can.

🐺 Varka is just unabashedly himself and very genuine about it. Outgoing, gregarious, and unfailingly kind, it's little wonder that he and Venti became instant friends.

🐺 He makes it a point to stay in contact with the people he cherishes. Connections with people are how he keeps himself from being lost as a Knight of Boreas, and how he prevents another tragedy like the Bloodstained Knight from happening again.

🐺 That being said, he's a Mondstadter through and through: man loves to D R I N K. His alcohol tolerance is absurdly high.

🐺 Varka certainly has his moments of being a big, beautiful idiot, such as when Diona tricks him into making a "superb wine" out of random shit she made up and almost dying by drinking it.

🐺 However, he is a brilliant tactician even when he's just making shit up on the fly. It's impressive to see him in action.

🐺 That being said, Varka would definitely rather other people take over the desk job part of his work as Grand Master. Please. Please, Jean, do that work for him, he's begging you.

🐺 He doesn't like to see people overwork themselves or beat themselves up over being vulnerable. Varka actively encourages self-care to the people around them, as well as just being honest with their feelings.

AU Name: Varka Kenway
AU Age: 43
AU Birthday: February 17
Faction: Black Order

AU History: Varka was born in Wales to two extremely normal parents. If there had been magic in their bloodline, it was so far back that there was no memory of it. When he was a baby, they moved to Alberta, Canada and lived there for the first 16 years of his life. It was during a hiking trip with friends in the summer that Varka's life would change forever. A crazed wolf demon set upon their camp in the middle of the night. Varka was armed with only a stick as he told his friends to get to the nearest Ranger Station for help.

The wolf spirit charged at him and two things happened in that moment. The first was that he viscerally remembered something similar happening in his past life. A corrupted Andrius bearing down on him while he held the line to wait for the Traveler. The second was a moment in which time stood still as a god intervened. Drawn in by Varka's courage and loyalty, Anubis offered him a deal. He would lend Varka the power needed to fight back against the wolf. In exchange, the blond would honor the fallen and . It was an easy deal to make.

Yet after tapping into the God of Funerals' power, he passed out immediately after his victory against the spirit. Varka was taken to the nearest hospital to be treated for any wounds, which was when a Guardian from The Order approached him. They talked a big game about how being in The Black Order would allow him to continue protecting the people who needed it most. However, Varka found that was exactly what he wanted to do. Even if it was a shady group, he felt like he could still do something to change it from within. So, Varka agreed and entered training to become a full Guardian.

Throughout his tenure as a Guardian, Varka quickly proved himself to be incredibly strong and brilliant as a tactician. The Order would send him out on many dangerous missions far from HQ, sometimes not even allowing him back and just dispatching him from one battlefield to the next. Most of the time, Varka would ensure that every Guardian who was under his command came back home safely. However, there were times where that simply wasn't possible. He lost some good people, and he made sure to honor them according to both his own principles and Anubis'. Still, Varka made it a point to keep correspondence with all the people he befriended. Whether they were a Guardian or civilian, he made sure to bring with him summer winds and a hope for freedom.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to participate in the rebellion himself. He'd been sent out on a highly dangerous and urgent mission to quell a very dangerous Spirit Realm that was drawing even normal people into its depths. However, Varka didn't sit back and let his comrades fight for freedom on their own. He sent a few of his own crew as well as those he knew to be on Jusis' side to aid in the rebellion.

By the time he returned from his mission, it was just in time for the victors to elect their new leaders. Varka's nomination had been overwhelmingly positive, and thus he was promoted to join the ranks of The Unbroken. He performed his duties with integrity. While Ayato, Wriothesley, and Jusis dealt with rebuilding and restructuring, Varka went out to do what he did best: defend the people with his swords. He took charge of dispatching critical threats from the Spirit Realm to give the others some breathing room. At least, as much as he could.

However, after hearing about Hojo's designs on Kaisou and his subsequent permanent death, it was decided that Varka would be reassigned to the Kaisou team to help them. He would be relegated to dispatching Guardians from their base in the city as part of his regular duties, and also come to Kaisou's defense in the event something else threatens the citizens.

AU Personality Differences: Pretty much no change whatsoever. He's just Varka!

Using the money she earned at RandomPlay she started streaming as a Vtuber, doing gaming streams but mostly singing streams. She is more energetic and bubbly when streaming. Character Name: Pure Vanilla Cookie
Canon: Cookie Run Kingdom
Canon History: The wikia which isn't completely up todate but it good enough.
Canon Abilities: PVC is a healer who can also remove weaknesses! … to his light! He also is the one who created/started white magic within Earthbread, among other things. He can also duplicate himself, magical girl transform, and a few other ridiculous things because god-like cookie. He also functions as the virtue/god of truth. His other half used to be the virtue of knowledge, but then became deceit, but that’s a long story. There are so many other things… He’s just a jesus cookie of many talents.

Canon Personality:
Pure Vanilla Cookie is a kind and compassionate … cookie. He values the lives and wellbeing of others above his own. Even during the period where he didn’t have his memory, he still worked in the Vanilla Kingdom as a healer who tended to anyone who needed help.

When he was young, he studied magic and alchemy with his friend, but he truthfully isn’t the studious type. He much prefers being around others and taking care of problems. He can be by himself, but he’s a people person who flourishes in his old age around the youth of others. This is the old man who brought the teenagers to war, …among other horrifying and traumatizing places he’s taken them.

The compassion does tend to go a bit too far. He is extremely forgiving. TOO forgiving. Very deep in the “I can fix them” syndrome. His best friend growing up wanted to question the gods of their world and Pure Vanilla was all too willing to follow her on that disturbing journey that could have (and currently is trying to) unmade their very world. He pulled out at the last moment, leaving her to suffer the ends her curiosity took her. When she returned, changed and looking to destroy everything, he sacrificed him memory to lock her away instead of destroy her. There’s also the other half of his soul stored in a Blue Clown that despite causing a genocide or two, he’s not only willing to forgive, but also is attempting to rehabilitate.

As a ruler he tries to be just and kind, although of the kingdoms of their world, his is not just the poorest, he’s had a few exoduses as well. During The war against his friend, his kingdom was devastated, and his people moved on to more prosperous lands. He tries to take care of the people left and look out for all people he can, but the ones who left are understandably not satisfied with Hippie Jesus Cookie being such a soft-hearted person.

Behind the pacifist, forgive the term, vanilla way he presents, Pure Vanilla is deeply lonely and quite often depressed and unhappy with himself and his own accomplishments. It’s usually hidden behind his smile and bright persona, but this deep loneliness and depression is what draws him to his other self.

He’s also known for being rather cold and impersonal. Even his magic is renowned for it’s ‘cold, pristine’ feel. While he will try to empathize and help everyone he can, he’s been known to be a little too disconnected from the feelings of others. It’s the sort of thing that comes with having a long, god-like life.

Along with this, he has a quieter part of himself that is a bit sadistic and dominant. It does not go with his Good, Vanilla, expectations, but he does show it a little more when he is with This Other Self. He’ll become more demanding, more willing to hurt him, or to be outright possessive. Pure Vanilla has accepted deceit and the darker parts of himself, and everything that it entails. He just isn’t willing to show it to the people who expect The Kind Light of Truth, immortal leader of The Ancient Heroes.

AU Name: Elijah “Vani” Lukas, He goes by Vani Lukas
AU Age: around 2500 - 3000
AU Birthday: April 8th

AU History:
Elijah was born a long, long time ago. He doesn’t remember his parents or if he even had them. He remembers the forest and the animals he used to tend to.
When he was young, He remembered the world as the more magical place it used to be and the made friends with four other minor gods who journeyed from the far reaches of the continent. One of them was a curious woman who wished to learn more about the gods and humanity’s purpose.

This woman’s curiosity is what made the group of five aware of the paranormal and the wider world. Elijah, now called ‘Vani’ as they remembered his other life, was supportive of her pursuits… because he didn’t remember at the time why it might have been a good idea to deter her.

He didn’t see her again after The Magic Died, and the Wild Hunt became more abundant, and never got to resolve that feeling he got, but it was probably for the better that her goals took her to other corners of the world. Vani, on the other hand, let himself fall into obscurity. His friends broke apart, going back to the corners of the known world that they came from, Vani himself going on an extended pilgrimage for his own satisfaction.

For thousands of years, he lived in and out of society as Vani, forgetting his friends and anything having to do with his past. He lived as a healer and doctor of the people, but would move from place to place before people started to realize his age.
Much of his life from there was just that until closer to modern times. He still doesn’t remember what happened earlier in his life, or most of what happened in his past life as Pure Vanilla Cookie. Coming to Kaisou was on a whim of his to try and find one of the charges he took care of a while ago that he lost contact with.

AU Personality Differences: There aren’t really many differences. One small change is that the long period of time he’s been without his memory or companionship has left him with a deep ‘there’s something you were supposed to do’ that he still hasn’t been able to figure out. … Either way, he’s just an old man trying to do something with his time.

Other Characters: Dante, Furina de Fontaine, Jing Yuan, Mollymauk Tealeaf, Mydeimos

Character Name: Yixuan
Canon: Zenless Zone Zero
Canon History: Here

Canon Personality:
─ Yixuan comes off as an incredibly wise and calm woman, unbothered by practically everything that comes by her. Her approach to teaching is casual believing that, despite what the books may say, one cannot simply define the "right path" or how to get to it. She believes that her disciples must find their way to their "right path" on their own, without her guiding hand. She prefers to let things unfold naturally, only stepping in if it is absolutely necessary.

─ She is confident in what she does; be it teaching her disciples, taking down ethereals, or providing mystical help to those who think themselves cursed by a wicked spirit refusing to let them sleep. Any doubts that may creep their way into her mind are never shown and are kept under lock and key.

─ Yixuan is very protective over the people she takes into her care. While she is happy to allow things to unfold naturally and for her disciples to find their own way to the "right path", should they find themselves in danger she is quick to act. She will fight to the end to protect those cares about, and if she isn't able to fight to protect them? She will work herself to the bone in an effort to support them in any way she can.

─ Despite being a master of the mystic arts she is actually quite practical, often providing practical solutions to people's problems when applicable. Usually the simplest solutions are the best and if those aren't acceptable? Well, Yixuan is good at reading people and will tell them what they wish to hear in order to ensure their problems are resolved beneficially.

─ Sometimes she will say things just to tease those around her. Like casually talking about being able to talk to plants with a straight face, or provide a fortune that is surprisingly insightful but turns out to be made up. She likes to keep those around her on her toes and guessing, one cannot fall into complacency.

AU Name: n/a
AU Age: 35
AU Birthday: December 3rd
Faction: Black Order

AU History:
Yixuan and her sister were orphans, living day by day with whatever they could scrounge up between each other. It wasn't an easy life but as long as they had each other neither of them minded. That is how things were until one day they were come across by a member of Yunkui Summit who immediately took the children in. It was no hidden secret that Yunkui Summit takes in children like them, clothing, feeding, and educating them until they are old enough to join the Summit themselves or find a family happy to take them in. All they had to do in return was chores around the temple and keep up with their studies. Yixuan and her sister excelled in their studies quickly being accepted as disciples of Yunkui Summit as the others around them slowly began to leave to better lives.

Those who remained were put through rigorous training, Yixuan and Yijiang were no exception. It was during those early days of training that Yixuan awoke to her past life's memories, in the midst of a particularly intense training session where her sister took up a sword against her. All at once Yixuan found herself back at that fateful day during the fall of the Old Capital, her sister wielding the immense power of Qingming Sword, unable to do anything but watch as it ripped her beloved sister away. Previously unseen power burst from her then, ink surging to block her sister's strike as a black bird soared above the air around them. It wouldn't be until later in life that Yixuan realized that this was the day that changed the projection of their lives.

The sisters grew much closer after that, Yixuan quick to tell her sister everything she saw, that she remembered spurring Yijiang into investigating Yunkui Summit out of fear that this one would follow in the same footsteps as the last. They went about their lives as normally as they could, even with the extra attention the current High Preceptor gave them, all the while digging into the place they called home for the majority of their lives. It was only some months after Yixuan awoke to her abilities that their master fell suddenly ill, age and health finally catching up with him. It was Yixuan and Yijiang who were asked to tend to him during his final moments, the old man naming Yijiang as the 12th High Preceptor of Yunkui Summit and revealing the terrible secret he had carried for all his long years; long ago the elders of Yunkui Summit had made a deal with a group by the name of Krusnik to supply them with children in return for financial aid.

The news almost broke the sisters, knowing that the children they grew up alongside who had all but disappeared hadn't found families outside of Yunkui Summit but were instead handed over to an unknown organization was sickening. Wracked with guilt, their dying master pleaded with them to forgive him for sitting idly for so long, for being unable to do anything to stop a practise that had been going on for so many years. Yijiang decided then and there, as their master took his last breath, to change Yunkui Summit from the inside out. She would tear out the rot that has taken root and make Yunkui Summit a sanctuary of peace and safety it is always supposed to be.

First order of business was to send Yixuan out to find out more about Krusnik and the children that were sent to them, by herself she had little chance in accomplishing this so Yixuan decided to seek out those who had the resources and connections; the Black Order. The information Yunkui Summit had on them wasn't flattering, however they had what she needed to further her and her sister's goals. All she would need to do is train and work her way up to become a full fledged Guardian. Between her own combat prowess, as well as her knowledge and skills in the more mystical artes Yixuan proved herself to be invaluable. This allowed her access to facilities that helped her find the children she has been looking for. Some that she did located she recommend for recruitment, believing it was safer for them within the Order itself than wandering the streets.

Just before the rebellion Yixuan received a message from her sister begging her to return to Yunkui Summit. A divination spoke of the incoming disaster that would spell the end of Yixuan were she to remain, so she left. By the time they became aware the rebellion was in full swing. It wasn't only the rebellion she recalled Yixuan back for, however, as her sister finally identified the elders responsible for practically selling orphans to Krusnik and needed her help in finally weeded them out for good. By the time the dust settled both within the Order and within Yunkui Summit, both organizations had eliminated the rot from within them and it was time to pick up the pieces and move forward. Yijiang encouraged her sister to return to the Black Order, insisting that her sister would be instrumental in helping guide the new leaders on their newly found path. Yixuan agreed not only because of her sister's words but because of her own desire to check on those she had helped bring into the Black Order.

So Yixuan determined to travel to Kaisou to return to the Order she had seemingly abandoned, determined to make certain the new leadership holds true to their new ideals as well as help any who had suffered by Krusnik's hands.

AU Personality Differences: Yixuan's personality is very similar to her canon personality! The only change there being not being saddened by her sister's death, as Yijiang is alive and well. She is saddened by her role in pulling the Krusnik kids into the Black Order and is determined to make amends for those actions.

If you're not a current player, have you been in Kaisou before?: N/A

Character Name: Elphaba Thropp (AU Name: Elizabeth Brooks)
Canon: Wicked (musical)
Canon History: she's been around long enough that Wikipedia has a page. her musicalverse story can be seen here. this version also will likely have some influence from the two movies that came out recently. and of course: Wicked in general is basically just the college AU of Wizard of Oz.

Canon Personality:

- sardonic: Throughout the musical, she gets in a few lines filled with sarcasm, either directed towards others or about herself. She really only spares a few people her sharp tongue, like her younger sister Nessarose, who she adores and never really snarks at the same way she does to her love interest Fiyero or her college girlfriend best friend Galinda.
- intelligent: While magically gifted by nature, she's smart enough to impress the Dean of her magic school and the Wizard of Oz. She's bookish to a fault, enthusing about the libraries and museums of the grand city of Oz. And when dealing with a magic book, she applies herself to learning it and mastering the spells contained within.
- cynical: You get shit from everyone around you including your dad for being green all your life, you come to new connections to others standoffish and unwilling to let your guard down.
- idealistic: Despite the above, she truly believes that the loved ones she cares about and looks up to will do what's right. She trusted Galinda when her nemesis unexpectedly presented her with a nice hat for a party, for example.
- impulsive: Sometimes she lets her emotions get the best of her and does things without entirely thinking them through. Like snatching up a powerful spellbook that an authoritarian government is using and running away with it in that very government's headquarters.
- protective: Hurt her family and friends and she will lose her shit. Someone moving her sister's wheelchair without permission was enough for her to release a wave of magic that wrecked the university mural, in the movie. Across the musical and the movie, the reason she finally and completely snaps is the apparent death of her lover Fiyero.
- vengeful: She snaps like a twig when someone she loves is badly hurt or even killed. From that point on in the musical, when she thinks Fiyero's dead and knows Nessa's gone and sees Glinda has thrown her lot in with the Wizard, she's out to just get some goddamn vengeance and to get her dead sister's shoes back, and only snaps out of it when she finds out that Fiyero is still alive.
- justice-minded: You get shit from everyone around you including your dad for being green all your life, you end up identifying pretty hard with and caring about other people who are scapegoated and cast out. She won't back down from trying to do what's right, even if she fails at it.
- good at fronting: She gives a very, very big shit about what everyone else thinks about her. She would fucking love not to be green. But she was once told that ignoring the bullies makes them go away (it did not work) and she refuses to let anyone see how much it actually hurts.

AU Name: Elizabeth "Eliza" "Ellie" or "Elphie" Brooks
AU Age: 28
AU Birthday: May 28 (the date Wicked premiered on Broadway)

AU History:
  • the older sister of Cordelia Brooks, Eliza Brooks had a happy childhood with loving parents and an adoring sister. which actually didn't change once she came into her powers—her parents already knew about the supernatural, so they weren't surprised when, one day, Eliza stormed over to some kid pulling on her sister's hair and telekinetically pushed him down.

  • Eliza's skin turning green was also a surprise, but that's what happens when you mouth off and blithely correct a fey person who has very thin skin and gets easily offended. sometimes stuff like that happens.

  • her parents were just glad she didn't get cursed to start tossing around fireballs.

  • she did, in fact, end up throwing around fireballs, but that was less on accident and more hard studying and focus. it helped that Lia was nearby watching her and cheering her on.

  • the problem was this: children are cruel. Lia loved her and their parents loved them both, but their neighbors and Eliza's classmates still bullied her about her skin condition, even though to them she didn't appear green the same way she did in Oz. they also bullied her about being Weird.

  • when the visions kicked in, she would find herself actively attempting to help avert certain futures, only to end up being laughed at and made fun of whenever she tried to explain herself. eventually a wall went up around her heart, and she grew more cynical and sardonic as she grew up.

  • she didn't go far from home when she went to college, unwilling to leave her sister alone. it was while she was in class, though, that Lia magically transformed in public to save someone else. Eliza couldn't get there in time, only able to come home at dinner time.

  • soon enough, the Black Order started sniffing around. Eliza just barely managed to dodge being questioned by them, and, worried, worked up a harebrained plan to try and get Lia to somewhere safe. when she knocked on Lia's door with it, though, she'd find out that Lia had already left.

  • she did not take it super well. her parents found her in the middle of the room, crying amidst broken furniture, and no Lia in sight.

  • they couldn't do anything for Lia right now, but they could do something for Eliza. her parents sent her to a family friend all the way out to Salem, Oregon, to keep her out of the Black Order's hands, and it would be there that Eliza would complete her studies in Western literature and begin a new line of research: magic.

  • thankfully, she and Lia reunited later after tracking each other down via letters, which kept Eliza from flying completely off the handle. Eliza would later set herself up in a cottage on the outskirts of town, keeping to herself and living a hermit life, when not teaching about folktales at a university.

  • she heard about Kaisou's rebellion. everyone did, it was all over the grapevine, and she still went to the grocery store every now and again. she privately thought it likely wouldn't last and the Order would be back to usual in no time, but Lia was hopeful that it might actually work, so Eliza reluctantly gave her blessing and let her go.

  • in November 2024, she got wind of an open teaching position at Kaisou University and, on a lark, sent off her resume. she was very, very surprised when an acceptance letter came back, asking her to come and teach about folktales in the next year. well. why not?

  • AU Personality Differences:

    - the green thing isn't as much of a problem as it used to be, given she grew up deeply loved by her family and knows plenty of people with monster attributes now. still, she's a touch self-conscious about it, and moreso about her general strangeness.
    - grew up kind of a morbid kid.
    - a little more open to befriending other people than before, because her parents were decent people and treated her well. she's still prickly, but it's easier to get her to lower her walls.
    - she knows about the Wizard of Oz and she is the most annoyed about its existence. that's the worst week of her life fed through the Wizard's propaganda, thanks. (despite herself, sometimes she starts humming Over the Rainbow when idle.)
    - out as bisexual/polyamorous for ages. still kind of carries a torch for Glinda and Fiyero.

Jax | The Amazing Digital Circus || Zodiac AU re-app

    [personal profile] jaxoff 2026-03-21 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
    Player Name: TF
    Contact: Teefflady on discord!
Invited by: I am in your walls you are never rid of me.
Other Characters: Varian, Zulius, Persephone and Husk.

Character Name: Jax. He doesn't remember his real name at this point in canon.
    Canon: The Amazing Digital Circus.
Canon History: Day after day after day after day after day after- Be wary of themes of mental health breaks, bad coping mechanisms, slight suicidal ideation and self-destructive behaviour.

Canon Personality: Hey Saffy, I'm gonna make your life easier by putting the new personality stuff into italics. The rest is what was on his original app.

Jax is, quite frankly, a mess of a human being. Trapped in a world where everyone needs to find some way to keep themselves sane, lest they become mindless monsters via abstraction, he has decided to do this by being a childish, selfish jackass. Jax refuses to take a very serious situation seriously at all. He makes everything he can a joke, especially when it comes to the suffering and upset of his fellow circus prisoners. He takes a great joy in pressing other people's buttons and getting a rise from them. If it's throwing a snide comment at someone or actively getting them trapped in a nightmare dimension for shits and giggles, he's thrilled to make everyone else suffer while he stands by and watches.

This is, as we have learned, due to the fact he's leaned hard on pretending the circus "isn't real" that they're all just cartoon characters and as such nothing actually matters. He puts everyone into boxes "Gangle's the sad one, Kinger's the crazy one, he's the funny one", etc, as if they're just characters in a cartoon show. He says all the stuff he does is because of him being "the funny one". This is one of the main coping mechanisms he's leaned on, and fuels a lot of his actions. When this belief starts to get broken, his mental health in turn starts to tank.

He's extremely destructive and absolutely revels in chaos. He finds it a perfectly acceptable distraction from what is otherwise a constant cycle of nonsense Caine puts them through with no escape. The only thing Caine can't control is their minds- HA HA HA HA HA, scratch that forever. Jax takes full advantage of that by doing everything he can to be a fly in everyone's ointment- . After the Candy Carrier adventure is done, and they are about to leave for home, Jax purposefully leaves the kingdom gates unlocked and is joyful when the NPCs of the world are attacked for it. He pretty consistently smashes poor Gangle's comedy mask, for no reason other than it amuses him how upset it makes her. He has no problem destroying property - especially if it's someone else's.

Jax's biggest fears are losing people and losing control. He hates being perceived by anyone else, especially when it comes to showing any vulnerabilities. He wants everyone to believe all he is is a rancid asshole and is reluctant to letting anyone see beyond that. He tries to pretend that things happening in the circus (and his being trapped in there for years) doesn't bother him at all. Taking Caine's inadvertent torture of them with a shrug, acting like he doesn't care what happens so long as he can see "funny things happen to people". However, it's clear this isn't true. When Ragatha invites Pomni to Kaufmo's "funeral", Jax has a brief moment of genuine sadness for his lost friend, before he shakes his head and walks off to be alone - refusing to take part in the funeral and expose his upset about his "dead" friend.

He fully dissociates whenever Ribbit is brought up, as her loss hits him the most. It's clear he blames himself for her and Kaufmo's abstractions - to the point that even mentioning it puts him on the defensive. We don't know what led to Ribbit's abstraction, but we know Jax was deeply tied to it and it's caused sizeable scars to his mental state due to it.

When Gangle drags him off for her bizarre Clockwork Orange-esque "employee re-evaluation", Jax's first concern isn't for what is about to happen to him, but if anyone else can see what's happening to him. It's clear he is extremely concerned with people seeing him upset or having any emotions beyond what he puts on show. He leans more on his assholish behaviours to be sure that no one gets close enough to see who he is underneath it all.

When Caine puts him through a SPECIFIC torture, it's him surrounded by the silhouettes of Kaufo, Ribbit and Pomni, ad they laugh at and mock him, and eventually skin him alive. It's clear he has memories of being bullied himself, and is absolutely terrified of people seeing who he is under his mask.

When he has the chance to be a dickhead towards the other circus members taken from him, he becomes apathetic and despondent. His devil-may-care attitude vanishes without an outlet to use it on, with the smirking mask stripped away, he becomes an exhausted shell of himself. He tries to have a normal conversation with Pomni and the second he's alone, the grin vanishes away.

Later on, when he tried to push Pomni away as they get genuinely closer, they have a massive argument where Jax does everything he can to push her away, including a cringey-ass villain monologue about how he takes joy in seeing other people suffer. But at that point it's too late. Pomni knows it's a facade and Jax exhaustedly tells her "there's nothing more to me, so please, stop looking". From that point on, he finds it harder and harder to keep the mask on, sinking into a well of deep depression. He almost abstracts multiple times (at one point fully welcoming it) - all while leaning HARD on pushing Pomni and her continued attempts to get him to open up away. It doesn't work, and after Caine finally snaps, he's genuinely surprised to find the others want him around and don't want him to abstract. A fact he clearly struggles to comprehend- and while he doesn't fully embrace it, he does lessen his torment of them from that point on. He tries a couple of barbs, but none of it lands and he stays more his natural, despondent self as a result. Which is to say he is able to show people who he is under the mask, it just takes... a lot of work to get there. And he'll always be a little bit guarded about it, lest he is hurt again.

    AU Name: Jackson "Jax" Hopkins
AU Age: 23 - he's 22 in canon but he's had a birthday during his NPC time in Kaisou!
    AU Birthday: 23rd May.

    AU History:
    - He was a child of divorce. His parents split up when he was 9, and his mother left to start a new family, leaving Jax with his dad. While his dad has always been a great guy who did his best, his mother's abandonment instilled Jax with the belief that people will just leave when they get tired of him, so he started to act out, trying to make himself as obnoxious as possible to prevent people from getting too close to him and inevitably hurting him in the process.
    - He was always a disruptive kid, both out of school and in it. He pulled pranks on students and faculty alike, and was known as a pretty constant troublemaker for the rest of this school years. He always had the vibes of a kid with undiagnosed ADHD. The only person who believed him was his father- a construction worker and secret earth elemental, and as such aware of the paranormal.
    - When he was 13, he got in trouble for "stealing" a video game at the mall. He hadn't meant to take it- it had vanished into his newly manifested hammerspace, and he had no idea how to get it back out again. He got reamed out by an over-zealous mall cop, who made it clear he thought Jax was nothing but a delinquent who would go nowhere in life but prison. Jax was let go because no one could find the aforementioned stolen game on him. In retaliation, Jax slashed the mall cop's tyres, and felt great for doing it. Thanks to the mall having poor-ass cameras, it meant Jax got away with it- which only added to him feeling that this was a reasonable way to deal with his emotions.
    - He had one single friend in his life, a girl named Katie. She leaned into his chaos with him and she was someone he genuinely felt he could open up to. Unfortunately her own mental health was extremely poor. When they were 16, she had a mental break and ended up being institutionalised - where her parents refused to let Jax speak to her as they felt he was a "bad influence" on her healing. This made Jax blame himself for what happened to her and further cemented his belief that he was better off keeping people at arms length. (Adding this in for a fun little nod to Ribbit, because it's fun to make characters sad!)
    - Ever more unwilling to let other people in, Jax started to get into tech and computers. Because he could just lock himself in his room and work on coding and not speak to anyone. Always inclined towards trouble anyway, and too curious for his own good, he started getting into hacking, using the handle PR4NK573R. While he never used it to steal people's money or ID, he did use it for general mischief. Making sites crash, making PA systems play meme songs, generally anything that made him come across as a great annoyance.
    - When he was 17, he got a VR headset for his birthday. Always a big tech nerd, he was delighted to put it on. Unfortunately, while this didn't trigger any of his past life's memories, the very act of doing the thing that got him internally trapped and tortured caused his mind to have a full trauma response from the action. He changed into his digital avatar form and freaked out about it. After all, you really don't expect to suddenly become a purple rabbit-shaped-thing out of nowhere.
    - His dad had a friend who worked in Zodiac, and called them in a panic about what to do about any of this. Unable to go enter back into the normie population looking as he did, Zodiac had Jax pulled out of high-school and brought him in as a Zodiac intern. He finished up his high school in Zodiac-run classes, where he got pretty middling grades given the everything that he was trying to deal with in his senior year.
    - His skills with computers and tech meant he ended up being called by various staff members to help "fix" them. And while Jax remained an obnoxious asshole every time anyone had the audacity to ask for his help - he WAS good at it, and the higher-ups in Zodiac soon took noticed.
    - After about a year of internship, he was put in the tech department. They had trouble with a hacker (Yuuki) trying to get into the system, and they figured the best way to handle that was to get another hacker on the job. Jax managed to get the Zodiac systems up to snuff against Yuuki's attacks- and he tipped off the curses department to get the little fucker cursed for his troubles.
    - And so he has remained a member of Zodiac's tech department. He's an absolute nightmare towards all other staff members. He's known as a bully and an annoyance- stealing lunches and eating them in front of their owners, throwing coffee mugs out of the window, inerting their entire computer screen- things like that. He's never troublesome enough to lose his job, and honestly he's so good at his job that Zodiac know he'll have set a ton of failsafes he'd activate to make the system unuseable if they ever tried to fire him, so here he stays. And he makes that everyone else's problem.

AU Personality Differences: The most notable change is that AU Jax is less violent than canon Jax, thanks to the fact they don't live in the digital realm and as such people can actually get harmed in this realm. You can't really throw a person into a deep-fat-fryer in this world without there being long term consequences, after all. Also, now that he knows what the consequences are of making himself totally isolated (ie: he gets SUPER close to becoming a mindless ragemonster) he's a little more willing to talk to people, even if he'll still be resistant to calling people his friends.

    Element: None yet!
    Purchased Flaws:
    - (Canon) Vengeance: High (3)
    - (Canon) Berserker: Medium (2)
    - (Canon) Kleptomania: Yuffie (8) - His obsession is keys. He will steal your keys if he gets half a chance. He doesn't even USE them all that much. He just likes to HAVE them.
    - (Canon) Dragon hoarding (Canon rather than a monster change, but he'll likely end up being a dragon anyway eventually): Extreme (4): Again, it's keys. He's got so many keys. I can't stress how much he hoards keys. I did not know how bad the key thing was when I apped him last time.
    - (Canon) Watch your language: (1) Much like in canon, swearing will be replaced by Caine's stupid fing censor bar - this is one that might eventually be given up in the future, but we'll see how the world state ends up in the final episode for that! For now, he can have the nonsense.

    Purchased Powers:
    - (Canon) Hammerspace (canon) (3) - He rotates what's in there.
    - (Canon) Reduced need to sleep (No sleep) (3) - While he can sleep if he chooses to, he doesn't actually need to. He can stay awake forever if he wants to- though probably smart to do it for his mental health because...
    - (Canon) Regeneration (Wolverine) (8) - Thanks to being literally a cartoon, injuries will not kill him. He doesn't even bleed. He'll survive anything except a mental break - if his mental health deteriorates, he starts going through the "abstraction" process- starting to hallucinate and have panic attacks. If he doesn't get help, he will fully abstract which turns him into a many-eyed monster. While it doesn't technically kill his body, this process does kill the rest of him, it's essentially a zombie-like brain-death.
    - (Canon) Immortality (Full) (8) - As above. This is not a good thing, it's absolute living hell actually!

    Appearance Regains:
    - His digital avatar form. This is a purple bipedal rabbit. No fur, just a weird purple-skinned rabbit man who's mouth almost never opens- when it does, his teeth are nightmarishly sharp. Using both points for this!

    Character Name: Reinier
    Canon: AFK Journey
Canon History: Here. He's a one sidequest wonder.

    Canon Personality:
    - Obsessed with symmetry and balance to the point his canon title is the Symmetric Sin. Mostly this comes out in ways that are like Carmen Sandiego crimes, but has also lead to an instance of playing A Little To The Left with a village's hearts, so, y'know.
    - Self-confident to the point that it can be mistaken for arrogance, and sometimes it does cross over into arrogance
    - Does not understand other people's feelings and often doesn't try, but is oddly more likely to make an honest attempt to try and be empathetic to someone else if he thinks he can make a connection with them than his fellow Hypogeans.
    - Follows rules to the letter if he believes himself subject to them. The likelihood he'll ever realize he can use this for malicious compliance is very low.
    - Desperately lonely.
    - "Reinier can never hope to become an accomplished researcher since he reviles anything that fails to meet his standards of "beauty". This includes all graphs, formulas, and even numbers themselves." This is a direct quote of one of his ingame lore tidbits. Somehow, he's only the third biggest dumbass of the known Hypogeans.
    - germophobic to the point that he'd rather constantly hover than touch the ground
    - talks with his hands. yes, all of them

    AU Name: Reinier Vos
AU Age: 25 (at least 2000 in canon)
    AU Birthday: March 27th

AU History: - Born in the UK and raised by a single mother (whom he loves and holds as the highest authority when he runs into conflicting rulesets), Reinier had... kind of a rough childhood due almost entirely to being obsessively neat and tidy and far too open about his ideas of beauty in all things, though the fact that he could see the local fair folk and was open about it didn't help. He had very few friends, which you'd think would've had a negative effect on his self-esteem, and yet somehow. Somehow instead it bolstered his natural inclination towards a "wow, sad you can't see I'm pretty great and correct" mindset. Bless his mother for having the patience and foresight to actually outline a list of specific rules he must follow in order to grow into a passably functional member of society.
    - Moved to Kaisou for college, had the misfortune of waking up one day in 2022 changed to his canon form due to spirit vein instability. ...Well, "misfortune" in the sense that operating in normal society with four arms and a floating mask for a head is difficult at best. In terms of self-image, this was a great turn of events, actually. Four arms and not having to worry about what his face is doing ever again? Fantastic!
    - Since working elsewhere was not working out and finishing college was probably not happening, Reinier went in for an interview for an office job with Zodiac and walked out as the newest janitor after having been left unattended in a waiting room for more than five minutes. He has since done his job well, but also has beef with several people who are too messy and Janet.

AU Personality Differences: - Many of the parts of his personality that made his canon self dangerous are tempered by the fact that he started as a human in this life and therefore considers himself bound by human rules no matter what his actual species has become, and has normal human ways to cope.
    - His cognitive empathy's still garbage, but now he tools to somewhat compensate for that, like actually asking about other people's feelings.
    - Will do math if necessary. He hates every second of it when he has to, but he'll do it.

    Element: N/A
Purchased Flaws: Neat Freak (Marie Kondo, 4 pts) - This one's just canon. He just. comes pre-loaded with this one.
Purchased Powers: Species Change (8 pts) - His canon species is Hypogean, which is a high tier demon made from the collective emotions of sentient beings. For Reinier specifically, this means having a floating horned sheep(?) mask rather than a regular head or neck, four arms, and eating and breathing being unnecessary for survival.

    Character Name: Shadow Milk Cookie
    Canon: Cookie Run: Kingdom
    Canon History: Here
It's not up to date but it gets the job done.

    Canon Personality:

♣️ Theatrical - This man is a jester and he knows it. He leans into the vibe so hard that you wonder if his brain is just configured that way or if he's just putting on an elaborate act. He'll laugh manically at things that aren't funny, he'll sing-song certain words in a sentence, he'll even debate himself. He is pure concentrated clown and don't you forget it.

♥️ Lies and Deceit - As the antithesis of his counterpart, Pure Vanilla Cookie, who is the herald of truth, Shadow Milk is the epitome of lies. When he fell from grace, he noticed that people took comfort in sweet deceit instead of harsher truths, and thus, has decided that lies are the higher power versus Truth. He thinks that the best way to sow chaos is to let little droplets of deceit poison the truth, and watch the world crumble. He finds enjoyment in this. This also makes it hard to determine which part of what he says is the lie. If everything sounds juuuust true enough, how can you tell? Put a pin in this on why his occupation is perfect for him.

♠️ Intelligent - His original purpose was The Fount of Knowledge for all Cookie-kind. This meant that he knew the answers to everything once could possibly think of. Naturally, people sought out his wisdom, but their questions became more selfish, getting angry if he withheld certain knowledge from them. Questions that could lead to other Cookie's harm. For example, a Cookie asked him if they should enact revenge on a neighboring village because they thought they were a threat. The Fount of Knowledge could not give an answer to this, because saying 'yes' would cause bloodshed on the village. Saying no would cause bloodshed on the requestor's village. He's wise, smart (too smart) and knows what a power that is.

♦️ Vengeful - If anyone. ANYONE slights him, either in his goals or by simply interfering with his 'show', he WILL get angry. The playful jester facade will crack and reveal the rage underneath, showing just how much pent up rage he has towards the world.

♣️ Lonely - Underneath everything, underneath the comical jester or the unbridled hatred he has, hidden within a deep corner of his psyche, is a lonely person who wants nothing more than for someone to reach out to him and be there. To ease the pain of his loneliness. Unfortunately, it's very fragile, fragile enough that he will lash out at anyone who DOES try to touch that part of him. It stems from no one being there during his fall from grace, and his lost faith in...Cookie-manity.

♥️ Loyal - Despite all of the above, Shadow Milk places a great deal of trust in those he calls his comrades. Once you gain his trust (good luck) he will even call you a 'friend' if its not in public. He's known to take traitors very poorly. If there was camaraderie between him and someone and they broke their promise, he would take it very, very personally.

♠️ Leader - As the unofficial leader of the Beast Cookies, he takes that part in stride, and oftentimes assumes responsibility for all of them. It could be a lack of trust in them to do things on their own, but he doesn't necessarily turn down being the face of them.

AU Name: Damien ‘Shadow’ Lait (Some may also call him Shadow Milk)
    AU Age: 3000
    AU Birthday: January 15th

    AU History:

Many, many years ago, there lived a minor god called the Fount of Knowledge. No one is sure what pantheon he belonged to, but it didn't matter. Knowledge had no borders, and everyone was welcome to come to him for his wisdom. As lonely of an existence it was, serving the people made him feel like he had purpose. A purpose that had followed him through many lifetimes, in many forms.

Their questions soon became harder to answer. Instead of seeking knowledge on how to grow grains, or when the winter's first frost would hit, they would come to him with moral dilemmas. Oh, Fount of Knowledge, this person has a grudge against me, should I strike first before he can attack me? Oh Fount of Knowledge, if the gods are all knowing, why do they let disasters happen? Oh Fount of Knowledge, what is our purpose? Such questions are not meant for mortal ears. And when the Fount of Knowledge has no answer, then they are not necessarily worth believing in, are they. The people became angry. What good was a god that didn't serve them in the way he was born to?

The Fount knew this was the path it would take, and yet...he had hopes that this lifetime would be different. With the gods so close to the mortals in this realm, perhaps understanding could blossom. Oh how wrong he was.

The only path forward at that point is disillusionment. The Fount, realizing that Truth could bring just as much pain as Deceit, wondered what point was the truth at all. People would only want to hear what would benefit them. Their requests, selfish. Their intentions, impure. Losing those who believed in him and his own purpose made him fall from grace, his purpose shattered into two. The part that valued Truth disappeared (to reappear later in the form of another) leaving him with only Deceit.

A shadow of a god, wandering the world with a new purpose. To spread lies and deceit, all while also searching for the other piece of himself. If his previous life was anything to go by...then that certain someone should be in this life as well.

As the world became more modern, and organizations like the Black Order surfaced, it became harder and harder to hide himself from their grasp. After all, a god of knowledge, even if fallen, would be very useful for their plans. Momentarily, he thought about joining them, using them to his own advantage.

But there was another organization. Zodiac. A corporation that had their finger on the pulse of the paranormal sphere, while also infinitely more freedom (in his opinion) than the Black Order offered. He could keep an eye out for his other half, and not be shackled by 'missions' and indoctrination. What's a little paperwork with those benefits? What's a work party or two? Even Janet is more tolerable--the bar is that low. Not to mention, it also provided shelter from the Black Order.

He was assigned to Zodiac's legal department, with two distinct purposes. One, to make believable histories for the transplants of this world, making sure they were accepted as the truth. Second, to represent Zodiac in (almost) all things legal. Wiggle them out of the hot seat when fingers point just a little too close to Zodiac's direction.

What better use of a god of deceit than to weave truth and lies together until they are indistinguishable from each other?

His finger, however, would always be on the pulse of Zodiac, looking for the one with his light of Truth. The one who makes him whole. It's not gay I swear (this is a lie).

AU Personality Differences: Personality wise he'll be pretty much the same, with the exception of not being an active threat to the plot. In this AU he is trying to make himself 'whole' again. He will sow chaos, but he won't be actively trying to kill people.

Lio Fotia | Promare | Paranormal AU

    [personal profile] turntoashes 2026-04-03 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
    Player Name: Fae
    Contact: PM
    Invited by: Employee discount
Other Characters: August, Yusuke, Ash, Caelus, Wanderer,
If you're not a current player, have you been in Kaisou before?: Irrelevant!

    Character Name: Lio Fotia
    Canon: Promare
Canon History: Here. For your sake look at this in bright mode.

Canon Personality: - Protective: Lio is extremely protective of the people he considers "his people", and harming them is one of the few things that will get him to actually lose his temper. He lets himself get arrested to save the other Burnish from Kray Foresight's prison/science lab and it's the Burnish being in danger that prompts him to go on a rampage in the third act of the film. Do not, under any circumstances, fuck with Lio's people.

-Distrusting of Authority: For obvious reasons, a freedom fighter-labeled-terrorist does not like authority figures. He frankly doesn't trust any sort of public official, again for rather obvious reasons.

-Emotional and Intensely So: When the Burnish are in danger, Lio straight up manages to break out of an ice prison (of a sort) specifically designed to hold him and go on a rampage throughout Promepolis. As a giant fiery dragon construct. He only calmed down after being literally thrown into an icy lake. It takes a lot to get him to lose control of his emotions, but when he does it's dangerous.

-Confident: He knows who he is, what he wants, and what he stands for. His confidence and conviction is strong enough to change the mind of his lieutenants in the prequel shorts and to prompt Galo to question his idol's action after a signle conversation. This does sometime backfire—he doesn't consider that people might betray him—but that won't change who he is.

-Kind: Lio is without a doubt incredibly kind and caring. He never kills people when he's in his right mind (emotion fueled dragon rampages notwithstanding, though as far as we know he never kills anyone like that). As leader of Mad Burnish, he made it a rule to leave escape routes for civilians and only burn what was necessary to satisfy the Promare inside all Burnish.

-Showy: This man is five foot negative three and manspreads like there is no tomorrow. He makes a to-do about his fire and armor and his showy fire-motorcycle. It's subtle, but for a quiet and reserved young man he can really showboat if allowed. Not as much as his himbo counterpart though.

    AU Name: N/A
    AU Age: 30
    AU Birthday: March 25

AU History: Lio Fotia was born in America and promptly deposited in the foster care system. He would later find out that his parents were way too young for a child; he's never blamed them, but he also has no interest in tracking them down.

He was passed around the foster care system from an early age, first because he was a fussy child and then because was a "difficult" child. As Lio got older, he took to fighting off bullies and sassing at people when they were rude no matter their age. Some of the foster guardians recognized that he had a strong sense of justice, but others didn't and either way, schools generally don't like it when a child is backtalking a teacher while also getting into fights with other kids. Lio would never truly feel like he belonged or was safe because of this.

When Lio was about ten years old, the group home he was in caught fire. Rather than do the sensible thing and escape, he stayed in the home as it burned around him, making sure the younger kids and anyone who was too afraid to move got out before he did. This would cost him, however, as Lio Fotia died from smoke inhalation that night.

Except he didn't. A spirit, an aitvaras, had been hanging around the group home and had seen Lio's sacrifice. It offered to share its life with him so that he wouldn't die. Ten years old and afraid (and really not wanting to die), Lio agreed. He woke up in the hospital some time later, badly injured but alive. Thankfully, one of the nurses on staff was involved with the magical side of the world and she was able to explain some of it to Lio and get him a caseworker who was also supernatural so that he would hopefully be placed in homes with other supernatural people.

That did not always pan out, and unfortunately the urge to set things on fire at least once a week just meant Lio spent even more time moving from house to house. Eventually, he just landed in a group home when he was seventeen and stayed there until he aged out of the system.

Once he had, Lio promptly got a camper van and decided this was his life. Having a stationary home felt weird, and anyway a landlord or a bank or whoever could easily take it away from him. It was much harder to repossess an old 2008 camper van he bought with cash. Once he got it set up, it was easy as anything to take to the road and start a "career" as a freelance writer and occassional blogger.

Moving around in his van made it easier to meet all sorts of people and really find where all the supernatural pockets of America and Canada were. He's pretty sure there isn't a supernatural area he hasn't seen, and he has the photo albums to prove it. Moving around also made it easier to help people who might need to escape get away, be it from the old Black Order or just a terrible home life.

Now, however, Lio is coming to Kaisou. Not only has he hear rumors of this place, not only have a few friends assured him it's safe, Lio is thirty years old (though he doesn't look it). He may not want to have a house that can be taken away, but it might be nice to just...stay in one place for a little while for once. Rest. Check out that absolutely batshit insanity this city apparently has going on.
    Burn some things.

AU Personality Differences: Lio is a bit less showy than in canon simply because there's never been a reason to be showy in this one. He's also much more prickly and quiet since staying in foster care led to him being a bit more isolated and distrustful of people.

    Element: Fire
    Purchased Powers: Regeneration, High (3)
    Fire Immunity, Permanent (3)
    Self-Sacrifice, Low (1)
    Conjure Fire, Medium (2)

Possession: He is possessed by an aitvaras. His price is that he is compelled to burn something once or twice a week and he must also always offer to share food with anyone who comes by his home.

    Character Name: G'raha Tia
    Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon History: G'raha Tia on FF wiki!

    Canon Personality:

💎 Charismatic. G'raha is of a royal bloodline, but his leadership qualities were instilled in him from being raised by Galuf.
💎 Protective. He will stop at nothing to keep the people dear to him safe, which may occasionally include people he's just met.
💎 Brave and courageous. He doesn't balk at danger, only social situations.
💎 Humble and kind. G'raha, when not acting in his capacity as a leader, tends to really crumble underneath the spotlight. He'd rather they saved the praise for a real hero.
💎 Selfless to a fault. He's tried to kill himself three times to save the Warrior of Light in the story, and succeeded at least once, technically twice.
💎 Neglects his health. He doesn't eat enough and definitely doesn't sleep enough. Even after he gets his body back, he's seen passed out from staying up too late.
💎 Empathetic and caring. He looks after the people in the Crystarium like his own family by sharing inventions to make their lives better, listening to their troubles, and even playing the lute for them.
💎 Clever. As the Crystal Exarch, he was two steps ahead of every villain in the story until the penultimate moment, and even then he had a trick up his sleeve—unexpected co-op. His learned and inherited knowledge regarding technology and ancient spells serves him well.
💎 Manipulative. During their first meeting, G'raha leads the Warrior of Light on a wild goose chase and teases them for not being fast enough. He also uses a silver tongue to win people or wound them.
💎 Secretive. In his role as Crystal Exarch, he keeps his identity a secret and also hides his true plan of self-sacrifice until putting it to action.
💎 Puts others on a pedestal. His hero worship of the Warrior of Light literally kept people going in the dystopian alternate future he awoke to. He might be justified for this one.
💎 Hopeful and optimistic. He's seen what humanity can do even when barely clinging to life. Truly a glass half-full kind of guy.

    AU Name: Raha Baldesion
AU Age: 29 (canon age is 324)
    AU Birthday: 6/8 (headcanon)

    AU History:
❖ Raha was born to a family of cat people somewhere on the Indian coast who had an affinity for the water. He stuck out like a sore thumb, drawing the ire of other kids for wanting an education and talking about other worlds he found in books. Then his path crossed with that of renowned professor-explorer Galuf Baldesion. Raha would not be denied (and truthfully, his family was happy to get rid of a troublemaker), so Galuf became his legal guardian and brought him back to the U.K. to get an education. Raha also found out he was the younger adoptive sibling of a spunky girl, whom Galuf had raised from a baby.

❖ Thus, his first adventure began. He and his sister were thick as thieves. As they grew up, Galuf took them around the world to see many wonders, from caves to diving under the sea to ruins in the desert. Of course, they also studied in between, and learned about how to navigate real world issues like grants and funding. And international taxes.

❖ After becoming an adult and getting a fancy history degree, Raha had to admit that this world wasn't enough. He wanted to know even more about the Spirit Veins painted in the sky and in the sea. Galuf had connections in other places, so he told Raha about POKEGO and how they worked hard to find a way to live harmoniously with nature, particularly Pokémon, but they also had experience dealing with the Spirit Veins and all that entailed. Naturally, Raha signed up right away.

❖ While doing his apprenticeship, Raha was poking around ruins. After a brief scuffle with local wildlife that seemed determined to kill and eat a helpless baby animal, Raha followed the animal into a cave. The cave held a sleeping Earth spirit known as "Titan" in the local tongue. This brought back a rush of past-life memories for Raha, as he beheld the giant and remembered helping to save a baby kobold from tempering. Moved by this stranger's benevolence, Titan gave its blessing, strengthening Raha in the Earth element.

❖ Until now, Raha had been getting by mostly by training in the martial arts like archery and swordsmanship. However, the Earth blessing made him feel... bad. Terrible, even. As it turns out, his water-aspected body was not prepared for a whole Earth blessing, and began to reject it. Within days, his right arm was covered by rapidly-advancing crystal, and Raha himself was plagued by headaches filled with memories that were and were not his own.

❖ Seeking a way to halt the crystallization, Galuf reached out to his friends in TBO and discovered that they had a way to pause the whole affair. It wasn't a cure, but it would buy time. Unfortunately, that meant signing over Raha's life to a bunch of sketchy cultists and assuming a hell of a lot of debt. Raha understood that in any life, he could not escape a Big Sleep, and he didn't want to die before he'd done everything he wanted to do. So, he was taken to Meropide and put in stasis.

❖ Years later, with the Black Order reorganized and the Crystal Tower here, Raha's condition has stabilized (though the crystallization did not reverse). He has been released from his slumber. Now, with no home to speak of, he must find a place to belong and learn to reconcile the separate pieces of himself in a nearly-literal way. There is the Raha who lived before the Incident, and the Raha who lives after, and the Rahas from his past lives who led a nation as a great mage and cheated death. Can he cheat death again? ... Only one way to find out.

AU Personality Differences: I think he might be even more inclined to hide what is troubling him, given the dire nature of his diagnosis, but it's a character flaw that everyone around him already knows about.

    Canon History: Wiki entry!

    Canon Personality:
    - Extroverted, enthusiastic and optimistic. King of looking on the bright side of life. He greets his friends with literal open arms, loudly. Most of the time you see him in game, he's yelling supportive comments to Link. Even his special ability in the second game is a support role.

    - Makes friends easily, and doesn't tend to mind the "barriers" of royalty vs commoner. Honestly, the guy has like a legitimate fan club because of how he treats the people around him.

    - He makes a constant and genuine effort to show kindness to whomever he can - Zora, non-Zora, royal, commoner, doesn't matter. If you're a dick, he's not going to stand for it. That means you, Muzu.

    - But on the flipside, he is steadfast in what he feels are his duties. If his father needs privacy, nobody is getting by Sidon. If he's given a task, he will accomplish it. He can be serious, he just needs sufficient motivation.

    - Losing his sister, Mipha, deeply affected him. He looked up to her more than he did anyone else in the world. He often sits and wonders what life would have been like if she had survived. If she'd be proud of him. He strives to be like her in every way possible, defending his home and people like she did.

    AU Name: Sidon Dorephan
    AU Age: 22
    AU Birthday: 3/1

AU History: Sidon was born into a very rich family from California. His father owned a lot of property, mostly beach front, and managed a lot of housing and businesses on the land. His older sister, Mipha, was supposed to inherit it from their father but she died when he was little in a vehicle accident. He really adored her, and has never quite gotten over her loss. As a result, Sidon is next in line to take up the mantle of landlord of the beach. It's not something he's thrilled about, mostly due to his sister's loss, but he's accepted it, and wants to do his best for it.

He went in college to learn business and land management, but spent most of his time being a star on the swim team. Most of his life was unremarkable until this time. He wasn't a 4.0 student, but he tried. He made extra money as a lifeguard at various pools and swimming spots both on the California beach, and elsewhere. Basically, if somebody needed a lifeguard at their swimming place, he was there. He took a handful of marine bio courses too, to round out his science requirements.

In senior year, his team made it to the national championship swim match. Everyone traveled out to the location, and all the teams were housed in the same hotel. Inevitably, there were parties. During one such bash, he ran afoul of someone on the opposite team - literally, Sidon bumped into the guy, who just so happened to have magic or fae blood or something running in his history. That night, the opposing team swimmer cursed him out of revenge for making him look bad at the party. And, partially, to win the championship. Guy watched a lot of teen movies and knew a lot of people in the paranormal sphere.

And Sidon woke up as a fish. He had to sneak home with the help of some more paranormal-attuned teammates, and try to explain to his father why he was now a big red shark instead of a human. Thankfully, Dorephan Sr. is a pretty good dad. And you don't get to be King Landlord of the SolCal coast without running into weird stuff. There's mermaids and selkies out there. So he did believe his son, after a bit.

After that, Dad Dorephan used his considerable connections to find help. During which, he heard about the paranormal population in Kaisou. And the factions involved. His influence in the area kept his son out of the mess for the most part, hiding him in their estate. Dorephan didn't have any kind of paranormal experience himself, but his personal assistant, Muzu, did. As long as Sidon stayed on the estate grounds, he wasn't about to get snapped up by one of the factions, protected by dad's money and Muzu's magic. On the flip side, he also didn't make any progress to fixing his situation, either.

As things died down, Dorephan relented, and sent Sidon up to Kaisou. He wasn't making any progress getting un-cursed in California, after all. Sidoen was given it all - apartment, tutors, expense account, whatever he needed to try and find a way to turn back to normal. Daddy D isn't getting any younger. All of this is contingent on Sidon actually looking for a way to break his curse. Sometimes Muzu comes out to check on him - both to make sure he hasn't fallen in with a bad crowd, and to assess his progress.

Which is easier said than done with all the Things Happening around town.

Sidon has been doing water search and rescue, along with beach lifeguarding in the summer, to keep himself busy in between his tutors and research efforts. It's not quite keeping his head down, but he's also not going to hit the Olympic swim team either. He didn't really know the app existed until a run-in with an out of control boat on a lake caused a near-death experience. Which just went and triggered a memory of swimming around with a giant mechanical elephant.

Voila. App user Sidon. He's not just cursed. He's cursed and has a past life.

    AU Personality Differences:
Sidon is a little less formal, and a little more prone to using modern slang in his speech patterns. He's not royalty, so the need to be a good heir to the throne isn't as pressing - he just has the pressure of being an heir to a landlord fortune, and curing the supposed curse on him. He's somewhat more relaxed about his duties as a son due to growing up a rich kid and not a prince, too. His generally upbeat nature remains intact.

He's somewhat averse to motor vehicles in this incarnation, mostly because that was how his sister died. And also almost getting hit by a boat will do that to you. He prefers to walk. Or ride a comically small bike.

He has more caution to him too, due to having to spend all that time in hiding. Not to mention his dad's weird personal assistant likes to drop by unannounced and lecture him. It won't stop him from helping others in need, though.

    Character Name: Aarya de Chabenet
    Canon: Royal Order
Canon History: SPOILERS AHEAD; CW: GENOCIDE, WAR, SLAVERY

In the beginning, there was a cycle of life and magic that worked in perfect balance. There was nothing good or evil about it. It simply was. Just as plants were eaten by herbivores which were then eaten by predators, magical plants were eaten by magical herbivores which were then eaten by magical predators. Humans were part of that very cycle, even the magic one. With enough magic stored within their "cores," those magical creatures or plants could take on human form. They gained sentience and sapience.

That changed drastically when humans decided that they wanted to be above the cycle. The First Alchemists shattered that fragile balance by taking vast amounts of magic from living creatures and putting it into homunculi. Homunculi were creatures that looked alive and sentient, but weren't really alive and didn't contribute to the cycle of magic. These horrific experiments resulted in the complete genocide of the Black Foxes and nearly destroyed all other magical creatures. This then lead to a scarcity of magic to be consumed by these creatures, which then caused them to revert to something more bestial, which then became justification for the humans to create more homunculi and use them to kill the "demons," as they came to be known.

Nidhoggr brought as many demons and the Sval, a people whose lineage contained the blood of demons, as she could to where the Black Tree was rooted. Baðmur sheltered them underneath their boughs and gave everyone their own magic to nourish them. They managed to save their oldest friend from the Black Fox genocide, but could do nothing for the others that died for those grotesque magical experiments.

Unfortunately, not even Baðmur could nourish everyone. Baðmur would have died giving them all of their magic if not for their old friend, Viðolf, giving up his life to save them. Fortunately, Viðolf was able to remain in this world as a spirit tied to Baðmur's pendant, but it was truly a testament to how desperate the situation was.

Nidhoggr lead a war against the humans to fight for their survival. The Sval would raid human settlements and take those strong in magic to their homeland. Those taken would die as their magic was harvested, and those unsuited for this purpose were traded to slavers for those who were suitable.

As the centuries wore on, the humans forgot the war for survival that had been waged against them. That history was wiped away intentionally. All they saw was the Sval taking away their people and they fought the Sval to protect their people. But the Sval couldn't stop. To stop meant that they would die. Nidhoggr saw the change in the wind, and she took many trips out into the human territories in order to find a better solution that didn't involve more spilled blood.

She found a human she could trust during her travels, and he was willing to help them solve the problem that plagued the Sval. Nidhoggr also met someone on her travels that she desperately wanted Baðmur to meet, but wanted the meeting to be a surprise for them. She convinced them to meet in a specific city so that they could come together for this ambitious plan. Unfortunately, a civil war broke out in that very city. Baðmur had just arrived and shapeshifted into their human child form to search for their sister. Unfortunately, Nidhoggr was nowhere to be found and Baðmur carried immense guilt that perhaps she'd been in one of those burning buildings, yet they just couldn't find her.

Going under their chosen name of Aarya, they were adopted into a noble's household after that tragedy. For 15 years, they grew up as a human noble and never heard of what happened to Nidhoggr. They hid that they were able to use all six elements by only openly using Fire, Wind, and Water. Wood, Light, and Darkness magic would only be used subtly when they felt they could get away with it or if they had no choice in the matter. Yet even that couldn't stop the raid on the Chateau de Chabenet nor save their adoptive parents. Aarya fought to get to a ship sent by House Daevaris along with other refugees. They met with the Lord and Lady of the House to debrief them on the situation, but their ship was soon under attack by a different raiding party of Sval. Lord Daevaris was critically injured during the attack. Aarya used their Water magic to heal him, though their magic reserves were terribly taxed.

After arriving in the bustling port city of Chymes, Aarya wasted no time in asking to join the High Council. It was clear to them that this was the only way they could try to find a solution to the Svals' plight, and to uncover any clues or answers to what happened to their sister. Out of gratitude for saving his father's life, Nerifiel "Neri" Daevaris agreed to personally vouch for Aarya's placement in the exams. Aarya passed the combat exam with flying colors and became a probationary member of the High Council.

From here, the story branches into 10 different endings depending on the choices Aarya makes, not including all of the death endings. Each ending showcases or emphasizes different aspects of their personality. In addition, the choice of which faction (Alchemists, Mages, or Garrison) Aarya joins will also influence how events unfold during the story. Unfortunately, it'll be impossible to summarize what happens without it being both confusing and overly long.

Canon Personality: 🌳 Aarya is a deeply compassionate and selfless person, which does lead to self-sacrificing tendencies.

🌳 His core character trait is that he will do anything to ensure the survival of his people. After living with humans for 15 years, Aarya includes humanity in that desire to protect and provide.

🌳 He can never abide the death, exploitation, or abuse of magical creatures.

🌳 Aarya's an intelligent, clever person who is quick to learn new things and apply that learning. His input for tactics discussions is also well received and respected. With the way Aarya acts at points, it's reasonable to conclude that he'd been a tactician during the ancient war as well as a combatant on the front lines.

🌳 He can be stubborn, which is something that Emrys teases him about in his route.

🌳 Tree jokes hit so different.

🌳 When Aarya's comfortable enough with someone, he'll tease them a little bit. Or a lot a bit if you're Emrys or his best friend, Lucius (true name Viðolf).

🌳 With his centuries of experience as a leader, he's more than capable of offering counsel to all three royals when problems arise. Economic advice he can be shakier on since that can be difficult without intimate knowledge of each country's system, but negotiating with nobles and the deployment of troops are definitely within his wheelhouse.

🌳 Aarya quietly carries a lot of pain, grief, and guilt about the deaths of his friends and family among the demons. He feels intensely alone as the sole remaining Demon Sovereign.

🌳 Selfless as he is, Aarya cannot handle someone else sacrificing their life for him. It's an argument he gets into with Lucius that never really ends because neither of them want to lose the other.

🌳 For as human as he looks, he really doesn't have the same perception of time as humans do. Aarya tries to be mindful of that difference, but it's very difficult.

🌳 Although bitter for how humans celebrate the deaths of demons and Sval, as well as dismiss their loss, Aarya has a highly resilient spirit in the good endings that shows he's willing to keep extending an olive branch to humanity despite that. He shows in those endings that he's willing to let go of the past's pain in order to embrace a better future. None of this would've been possible without Nidhoggr convincing him to leave the Northern Continent.

AU Name: Aarya, true names Baðmur and Yggdrasil
    AU Age: Infinite
    AU Birthday: March 20th (headcanon)

AU History: CW: ODIN BEING A FREAK

If one was to ask Yggdrasil when or how it came to be, they wouldn't be able to answer. Yggdrasil had always been there. They'd been an enormous tree with a complicated root system. Yet this ancient tree kept growing and growing until their branches crowned not only the sky, but entered other worlds. Even their very roots entered other realms, and suddenly Yggdrasil became more than just a tree. To so many creatures, this tree was their home and sustenance. The Norn would carve runes into their trunk, which would increase how much magic filtered throughout the tree's body. The gods would meet daily among Yggdrasil's boughs as a place of neutrality. What was once a humble tree now became an integral part of the cosmos. All believed that so long as Yggdrasil was healthy and well-maintained, so, too, would be the entire universe.

Though, in Yggdrasil's humble opinion, that might have been an exaggeration to spin a good yarn. They were a good indicator for the health of the Nine Realms, certainly, but the entire universe might be a stretch in their opinion.

Now, if one was to ask when they became conscious, that would lead to a more definite answer. It was when Odin sacrificed himself to gain knowledge of the runes. The god hung himself from Yggdrasil's branches and pierced himself with his spear, remaining on the precipice of life and death for nine days and nights. That sacrifice allowed Odin to understand the runes, but it also granted Yggdrasil sentience.

"Well come, Baðmur, Spirit of Yggdrasil!" Odin had said to them back then.

Though the Aesir would henceforth call them by that name and Baðmur would attend their daily meetings, the Vanir and the creatures that called the tree home continued to call them Yggdrasil. Their curiosity awakened, Baðmur interacted more closely with every creature, every god, every living thing. It was Nidhoggr who became like a sister to them and encouraged them to explore the Nine Realms. To see the cosmos with new eyes, to understand life and death in a different way than before, and thereby earn a new kind of wisdom.

Baðmur certainly took that to heart and began a journey to understand the Realms as well as themself. Every branch of the cosmos was fascinating, wonderful, beautiful, but it was Midgard that captured their heart and shaped them as a person. From Yggdrasil's roots sprang what humans called "Warden Trees," and Baðmur was able to use magic to travel to them. As Yggdrasil, the Warden Trees had been their eyes and ears, but as Baðmur they also became doorways.

Over time, their interactions with humans allowed them to explore their gender and how humans lived. Baðmur consulted with Nidhoggr about wanting to immerse themself even more into human culture, but it was difficult with a name that was granted by Odin. So together they chose the name "Aarya" for the spirit.

Aarya met so many people and began to favor masculine pronouns a bit more for himself. Some humans even became lovers, but their short lives opened him up to another new feeling: grief. Again, it was Nidhoggr who helped Aarya with processing those feelings. Yet credit needed to be attributed to his human friends as well. The experience helped him gain more of an appreciation for the passage of time and for the fleeting lives of mortal humans.

At the same time, he knew that those halcyon days would come to a terrible end. Ragnarok was approaching with every passing day. He knew that the signal for the arrival of the end would come from him. Yet Aarya came to deeply love Midgard. The people, the creatures, the plants, all inhabitants of that Realm became precious lives that he provided so much nourishment to by existing as Yggdrasil. How could he not feel responsible for their well-being? How could he turn a blind eye to their imminent destruction in a war that shouldn't involve them in the first place? Why should they suffer for a war among the gods?

From that day on, Aarya carefully crafted a bold plan that would protect Midgard from the worst of it. He told no one about it, not even Nidhoggr or any of his close friends among the immortals. He feared that Odin would learn of it and find a way to stop him. The One-Eyed God was crafty, cunning, and Aarya didn't have much trust in him. Neither did Aarya want any of his friends and family to suffer the All Father's wrath because of his choice.

Then came the day that Yggdrasil trembled.

    And so came Ragnarok.

Yggdrasil created a barrier around certain Realms to keep the fighting contained. As each battle ended, he would let that barrier go and focus his magic on maintaining the others. Slowly, it all came down to Asgard. Yggdrasil's vast reservoir of magic was depleting rapidly at that point. The tree was beginning to die. In what he assumed would be his final act, Yggdrasil wove a permanent barrier around Asgard to keep the corruption of the gods' remains contained into that spot.

The spirit known as Aarya faded.

But against all the odds, Yggdrasil lived. He was still alive, just in a deep sleep. The question of "how" wasn't an answer he could give.

Yggdrasil began to awaken from his millennia of slumbering around the time The Black Order decided to use Asgard as their base of operations. He was still far too weak to manifest as a spirit, and he still slipped in and out of consciousness. However, for the first time in so long, he was beginning to become aware of his surroundings once again. Yggdrasil took to observing and learning whatever he could as a tree. With great sorrow, he realized many of his Warden Trees had been cut down or uprooted, which greatly limited his reach.

Yet what delight and relief to know that his barrier around Asgard was still holding. He was even more relieved when he noticed that The Black Order was doing their part to help maintain it as well. Thus, Yggdrasil felt that it was safe enough to continue recuperating his strength.

Although patient, he truly couldn't help feeling a strong anticipation and excitement to see this new world that had thrived after Ragnarok.

AU Personality Differences: 🌳 Tree jokes continue to hit so different.

🌳 Without the war and genocide against his kind, Aarya has grown affectionate of humans more quickly and readily.

Invited by: I'm here until Yuff approves my orca portal, accidentally apping paralysis demons for Shiny's characters.
Other Characters: Von Lycaon, Kyryll Chudomirovich Flins, Shadow Milk Cookie

    Character Name: Tighnari
    Canon: Genshin Impact
    Canon History: Here!

    Canon Personality:

🍄 Intelligent - It goes without saying that Tighnari is very smart, especially for his age. He truly values brain over brawn, but he's not afraid of the latter if it comes down to it.

🍄 Hands On - Even though he's a scholar, he's not one to sit in a stuffy library. He would rather be out in the fields doing his research, getting his hands in the dirt and being in the fresh air. To him, nothing's more important than seeing things for yourself.

🍄 Serious - He's a very serious young man, who doesn't often crack a joke. This is possibly just how the Hoshimi line 2nd generation functions(?) since Miyabi is the same way. Their dad's jovial personalities brought nothing to the table. However, this is only due to how much work he puts into his studies. Things have to be done right.

🍄 Friendly - Despite his seriousness, he's not abrasive. He'll genuinely welcome company and is quick to strike up conversation. You won't find a hint of shyness in this fox, either.

🍄 Sassy - His friendliness and his sass somehow coexist. This usually only comes out when he's feeling frustrated at someone else's mistakes. Which sadly, happens quite often. He'll make little frustrated remarks about people and isn't afraid to use the word 'idiot' or 'imbecile' if it's truly deserved.

🍄 Know-it-All - As with all intellectuals, they think they know everything. And when it comes to the topics of plants, animals and fungi, Tighnari often is. Because of his knowledge in these fields, he can sometimes have a bit of a 'well, actually' vibe to him. He doesn't intend to come off that way. It's just a side effect from working out at the library too much.

🍄 Low Tolerance for Idiocy - While he will give the occasional joke a sigh or two, he has absolutely no tolerance for those unwilling to learn, or those who behave recklessly, especially in nature. Yes, he's talking about you people who eat whatever's on the ground or people who refuse to learn because thinking hard. Open a Book, peasants.

🍄 Mentor - If you're not academically inclined, he will be lenient as long as you show the drive to learn. He's actually a very good tutor who can break things down in a digestible way for even the hardest students. The only way this backfires is if the student truly doesn't want to do it, and then his frustration kicks in. Because why are you here, then.

🍄 Warm-Hearted - Deep down, Tighnari is a very caring individual underneath all that prickliness. He wants to help humanity and cure illnesses, and will devote his life to that pursuit if it means making life better for just one person.

🍄 Arts & Crafts - Tighnari likes taking things from nature and making little souvenirs for his coworkers and friends. This includes leaf bookmarks, homemade mushroom coffee, herbal teas, and fresh ground spices.

🍄 Archery - While Tighnari skipped out on the martial arts, he is a crackshot at archery and is an excellent hunter in the wilds. While not taking it as seriously as his Hoshimi relatives, he does have the potential to take it that seriously. His skill is there, he just doesn't prioritize it (Sub DPS personality)

🍄 Foraging and Spore Bombs - These oddly go together. Tighnari is excellent at making something out of nothing, especially in nature. He can find ways for you to not only survive in the wilderness, but actually be relatively comfortable. He knows how to make natural bug repellents, delicious meals with nature's bounty, and even spore bombs that he infuses with his Earth magic! One of his favourite combos is taking some of Paprika's powder and making an Earth infused pepper bomb.

🍄 Low Tolerance for Heat - This applies to both temperature and food-spice tolerance. Despite being half fennec fox, his darker fur means that he suffers from heatstroke quite easily, and he doesn't do well in the summer if there's no shade. Strictly speaking, it's the direct sunlight more than the humidity. He functions much better in the shade, and if he has a steady supply of water he fares much better, but it's no ideal. He also cannot handle spicy foods all that much. Both because of his sensitive nose and just lack of actual tolerance.

    AU Name: Tighnari Hoshimi
    AU Age: 26
    AU Birthday: December 29th
    Faction: POKEGO

    AU History:
    - Tighnari's father is the younger brother of Hoshimi Souichirou, and because of this, Tighnari is Hoshimi Miyabi's cousin on her father's side. Before Tighnari was born, his father left to pursue is dream of studying entomology overseas.
    - Tighnari was born during this time and was introduced to the Hoshimi family briefly as a child. He was already showing his interest in plant and fungi due to his father working in the field.
    - After meeting the Hoshimi family officially, they went off to India's forests to study until Tighnari was about 16.
    - At that age, the family got word that a Spirit Gate had opened in Souichirou's neighboorhood, and they rushed home as quickly as they could.
    - They weren't able to make it in time to save Miyabi's mother, but they were there to mourn her death along with the family.
    - Tighnari's family returned back to India after helping Souichirou heal from the tragedy, with Tighnari staying in the states and finding Kaisou.
    - Here, he went to school for mycology.
    - Between his lifelong interest in mycology to the Spirit Gate incident, he became interested in POKEGO after hearing about Pokémon and their amazing abilities, as well as the field work that could go along with it. He joined at the age of 22, the same time he was going for a PHD.
    - At age 24, he'd finished his PHD in mycology with a minor in botany, and could now commit himself completely to POKEGO and putting his knowledge to use in the Spirit Gates. With Miyabi MIA, he left Kaisou to explore both the jungles he'd grown up around to understand them more, and the various Spirit Gates around the world to understand the unique fungi and flora in them.
    - It's his thought that there might be cures to things thought incurable if one can just find the right gate with the right discovery.
    - 2 years later, he's back in Kaisou after hearing about the recent expedition to Spain's Spirit Gate that opened to Paldea. With the knowledge that this was a push to find a cure for EARS, he was quick to pack up and come back, hoping that with his knowledge, he can help find the answer they're looking for.
    - Alongside this, he'll be making regular trips into the stable gates, so if you ever need a person to go with you into one, hit him up, he'll guide you or at least be a reliable wilderness companion.
    - He'll also be giving seminars at the University on plant science and mycology, as well as basic wilderness survival skills

AU Personality Differences: He's pretty much the same as canon, without the added stress of whatever the heck's going on in Sumeru City.

    Character Name: Fern
    Canon: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Canon History: Fern's history on the wiki!

    Canon Personality:
Mom Friend - Fern is naturally a caretaker, even to those more powerful and older than she is. She is the one of the party who makes sure everyone is up and dressed in the morning, as well as the one harping on the others for staying up too late at night. When it comes to Frieren herself, Fern is the one who makes sure her mentor wakes up on time, helping her dress and do her hair, as well as sometimes even making sure she eats. She's very naturally caring.

Easily Upset - Despite her motherly nature, Fern is still young. And as such, she can be very easy to upset. Almost childishly so. For the most part, however, this is something she only really does to people she considers close to her. For example, if someone she considers a friend doesn't do something she wants or offends her (even slightly), Fern is prone to childishly pouting about it. She'll puff out her cheeks and stare endlessly in petty disappointment or, in extreme cases, will start ignoring and giving the silent treatment. While still very obviously pouting.

Curious Observer - When it comes to strangers, Fern isn't shy about how she interacts with them. She may be quiet and reserved, but that isn't from a place of shyness, it's simply how she is. Instead, when she sees someone or something that catches her interest, Fern will often start following said person around. For people she's interested in, she watches and learns their habits, the routines, and their interests. For those she's suspicious of... well, she has to figure out what's up, right?

Loyal and Disciplined - Above all else, Fern is a very loyal and studious person. When she believes in someone, she believes with her whole heart and will do anything for those she feels that way about. This goes hand in hand with how disciplined she can be. Usually motivated by that sense of loyalty, Fern can and will go to extreme lengths in order to better herself in order to keep promises or make sure those dear to her are proud of her. In canon, this has led to her lifelong journey to becoming a great mage, just to prove to her late guardian Heiter that she's capable of it.

Cold as Ice - While Fern has a natural warmth to her, with how she's the mom friend of any group, when it comes to fighting and facing down those that hurt her, her friends, or people at large.... Fern can be absolutely stone cold. Her expressions barely falter as she fights, even as she's stabbed and pinned to walls. But beyond that, she's capable of doling out punishment in the form of extreme destruction with an absolutely calm and unrelenting expression on her face.

AU Name: Fern Heilig, born Janna Webber
    AU Age: 20
    AU Birthday: July 18

AU History: Fern was born Janna Webber in Germany twenty years ago to Jan and Emilia Webber, who unfortunately died in a car accident when she was three-- a familiar story with a very different ending. As one of the two children left behind, it was arranged for Fern to be moved to a group home affiliated with a local church while her fraternal twin brother simply vanished into the night. There was, officially, no record of the Webbers having more than one child. It's hard for a three-year-old to hold onto memories, and even at that age Fern was quiet and reserved, so she didn't kick up a fuss about much of anything, instead quietly watching and listening to the nuns running the group home talk about this poor dear, left alone in the world, not a single family member to come take her in. To this day, she's not sure if the presence she remembered being next to her from the time she was born to the time she got to that home was real or not.

Within that church affiliated orphanage, Fern enjoyed a relatively normal and stable life. If, you know, you discount the way she's always been able to move and manipulate small objects without touching them. She doesn't entirely remember when that started happening, but assumes it was around the time her parents died. Combine that with her quiet and reserved nature and she grew up with the other kids of the group home calling her a "witch" and avoiding her.

It was a mix of all of this change and ostracization that had Fern almost giving up on herself, back when she first got into that group home. Memories of loss, a constant companion that seemed even closer to her than her own parents treated as if he had never existed in the first place, the bullying of the other kids... for a while, that quiet, reserved girl became a little too quiet, a little too reserved. As if she was perfectly fine sitting in the dark until she turned to dust.

It was then that Father Heilig, an older priest of the church sponsoring the group home, reached out a hand to her. Heilig stepped into a guardian role for Fern, a companion she so desperately needed. He was crass, unusual, and had a horrible drinking problem-- but for some reason, Fern always felt comfortable with him.

Almost like he was a real father to her.

It was from this man that Fern gained a new name. The system still knew her as Janna Webber, but as this priest would always refer to her as "my little Fern", it was all too easy to begin to call herself that, as well.

Despite the way the other kids would try to be mean and tease Fern for her quirks, with Heilig's help she grew to become calm and docile presence in the group home, becoming something like the mother among the children there. She was a diligent worker, a little old-fashioned in her tastes and how she dressed, but was always there to be a quiet place for the others to escape to. Was always there to help pick them up when they fell and to braid the other girls' hair when the nuns were too busy to help them. Which is why it was no surprise that when a certain spicy blond found his way into their home when she was just about ten, she did her best to try and make his time with them as comfortable as possible.

But there's only so much one quiet ten-year-old can do, and she was ultimately relieved to see an adult step in, instead. As such, a pattern started to emerge with Fern while she was in that home. The other children acted as children tended to, with emotion and energy. They were flashy and stood out, appealed to people who were looking within the system to find the perfect fits for their families. No one, it seemed, wanted to cast a second glance at the quiet girl in the background in the plain white dress. But she was fine with that. After all, it meant she got to spend her life growing up in the peace and quiet of that group home, looked after by a priest that she knew was her father, even if she couldn't describe why that fact was so certain.

When Fern was just about to turn 16, however, the priest called her in to his room. A hospice room, she would soon find out. He was dying, but he wanted to give her the gift of something amazing. He told her to look for new opportunities, to branch out, to go experience life and the world and not resign herself to fading into the background in this place. He had - selfishly, he admitted - arranged for Fern to move somewhere in the United States, a place he really thought she could thrive and learn to shine.

He died just a few months later, and on the wings of that change, Fern found herself stepping into Kaisou with not only a new goal to her journey, but a new name. Fern Heilig, from the nickname she'd gained from the priest when she was a child and the father's last name. A gift she had asked for before he died, and one he had freely given.

Over the next year, Fern finished her final year of high school in Kaisou, finding the mild magic she had awoken to as a child was starting to shift, to grow stronger. She could move objects with more precision and even conjure up a flimsy barrier. Even stranger, the things that had always made other children creeped out and calling her names if they happened to witness seemed almost a little more explainable in this city. Like the people in it were more used to seeing disturbances like this. It was curious, but also... welcoming, in a sense.

Either way, Fern found herself in need of a job after she graduated high school, as she was both considered an adult in societal standards, and she was being faced with the choice of making it on her own or becoming a nun, as far as the support of the system she grew up in was concerned. And while she felt a sense of duty to her foster parent, she also knew Father Heilig would probably have broken a rib laughing if he heard she'd entered a convent.

So, Fern applied to a few jobs, eventually finding one that promised a salary enough that she could afford a meager apartment and not have to rely on the church's charity any longer. It was nothing special, a simple office management job for an organization that seemed to provide support to various groups within the city. A place called Zodiac, whatever that meant.

For the last two years or so, Fern has worked at Zodiac first as a receptionist - though that didn't last very long. Fern may be polite, but she's also very soft spoken and is not able to hide her displeasure when someone is being rude or bullheaded. But she soon settled into a job she found very rewarding and honestly a little fun- an office manager.

Somehow, she found a way to be the mom friend in the official way.

So for the past two years, Fern has been making sure the Zodiac offices stay stocked up on general supplies and snacks, has been the person who sorts through all the weird mail her coworkers send and receive, has handled preliminary scheduling and travel requests, and is the one who keeps a running tally of each individual employee's office expenses.

She knows exactly who has spent the most on their "job necessary" imported coffee. And she is not afraid to leverage that supply chain in order to actually be told the next time the copy machine is low on ink.

AU Personality Differences: Fern is a little more outgoing than she is in canon, but only a little. She's used to working with a variety of eccentric personalities, so she's been brought out of her shell that little bit more. She's also somehow even more of the mom of her groups than she was in canon, having had a history of actually having to be that person for people closer to her age, instead of babysitting her guardian in canon.
