OLD PAGE. GO TO THE CURRENT APP PAGE HERE
Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!
How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on Sundays.
To join the game, the only big thing is you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. Just be sure to list their name and have the person confirm that they did invite you either by contacting the mods directly or commenting to your app. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two Sundays of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.
A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.
Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.
Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. The only times I'll ask for revisions is if there needs to be a fix with power purchases or possessions.
Is there a player cap?
There is a player cap! Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.
PLAYER SLOTS: 46/75 filled.
What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.
The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.
How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is a player cap of 25 OU players.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 24/35 filled.
At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open whether it be through drops, or adding extra slots. But to keep from one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is a OU cast cap of 6 characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a new character).
What type of characters can I play in this setting?
You have three options for characters!
- Normal Modern AU: These characters have lived normal lives in a modern Earth setting, completely oblivious to anything strange up until their entry into the game. Anything in their backstory should be events that could reasonably happen in the real world. Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick one free regain (canon regain or an elemental power) worth up to 3 points that will come into effect after they join the game.
- Paranormal Modern AU: These are characters who have grown up in a modern Earth setting, but throughout their lives have experienced supernatural occurrences. These characters will get 3 extra points when they app to use for powers that the acquired at some point in their lives (if they so choose). Characters are also allowed to be apped as possessed status. Please refer to the FAQ for more information on that!
- Original Universe Characters: Characters who hail from their original world and find themselves waking up in this world. These characters will not lose any memories, and are allowed to have any items that would reasonably be on their person when they arrive. They are allowed to retain one ability that's been weakened to beginner levels, otherwise they've been completely depowered.

Character Name: Jun Kohinata (Jun Nightroad in the AU)
Canon: Tokyo Xanadu
Canon History: here!
Canon Personality:
Jun is...complicated.
The simplest way to describe Jun is that he has two personas that he puts on depending on the situation: the high school student and White Shroud. You meet the student side of him first. He's introduced as one of Kou's normal friends at school, and in this persona he does seem very normal to the casual eye. He's down-to-earth, easy going, cheerful, and a bit nerdy without veering into obsessive. He doesn't have any of the strong personality traits that his friends exhibit: he's not loud like Ryouta, a workaholic like Kou, or extremely sweet like Shiori. Truth be told, he's so normal that he's almost forgettable the moment he leaves a room. He's that person in your friend circle at school that you hung out with a lot, only to realize much later that you never learned anything of substance about him.
Not long after you meet him as White Shroud, though you're unaware that it's Jun at the time. As White Shroud, he couldn't be anymore different than his student persona. He's cold and aloof, keeping his interactions with people brief if not outright avoiding them altogether. Attempting to converse with him is difficult at best, as he brushes people off with uncaring words. Gravely serious, he only cares about accomplishing his mission and nothing else. If something falls outside his mission perimeters, he's quick to dismiss it. Essentially, he's as close as a human can get to an emotionless weapon.
The truth is, neither of these personas are exactly the "real Jun", nor are either complete lies either. You see, Jun was raised to be a child soldier against a threat hidden from most of the world. The faction who raised him, Kronos Orden, were pretty extreme about it compared to the others. Seal Knights are expected to be wholly devoted to the cause, in body and soul. Not only was something done to his body to give him superhuman abilities, but he was denied any chances to form a sense of self or emotional attachments - severely impairing his emotional development.
However, things started to change for him when he was sent to Morimiya for a long term mission. Posing as a high schooler during the day, Jun was exposed to something he'd never experienced before: normalcy. Day after day, he was exposed to new experiences that most kids his age would take for granted. Slowly over time, these experiences caused Jun to start to grow and change himself. The act he put on as his student persona became less of an act as a real personality began to form, and the friends he made became truly precious to him. When he fully realized he was changing, he decided to lean into it- to see what he could learn about himself. He'd observe behaviors that others would do, and try to mimic them himself to see if it felt right to him. Some would get discarded, while others would he'd keep.
The real Jun is a mix of his personas. He's serious about his work, but quick to joke around and smile when he's not working. While he takes being a Seal Knight seriously, overall doesn't seem to take himself that seriously. He's confident in his abilities, but he doesn't have an ego about them. He's surprisingly fine with working with others so long as they understand the risks - even going so far as to vouch for allowing certain people to help when Kou refuses out of worry of their safety. As long as his missions get completed, he's not too fussed over HOW they're completed.
One very notable personality trait that Jun has developed is that he is excessively kind, often going beyond what any person would normally do without thinking about it. When the XRC all passed out and he didn't, it wasn't enough to simply get them out of harm's way. Instead he tracked down people each member cared about, brought them to spots where those people could find them, and even made sure they were laying in comfortable positions so they wouldn't wake up sore -- all before disappearing before anyone spotted him to avoid getting credit. He doesn't have a deep reason for going so overboard with it, he just feels an impulse and follows it, often not understanding why other people are surprised he goes through so much hassle. He claims he's just following his friend Kou's example...but even Kou is often like "um" at how far he goes.
That said, he's still a bit of a troll. He enjoys creeping people out with scary stories he "read online", and will tease people (he will never let poor Ryouta forget the time he mistook him for a girl and asked him out. Never.) when the mood strikes him. He has no shame about dragging his friends into his nerdy hobbies either, whether it be forcing his friend to cosplay with him or sending them manga to read. And while he's grown to be a little more emotionally honest since his friends discovered his real identity, he's still full of secrets. He's skilled at lying and half-truths, often dancing around subjects.
Yet for all the growing Jun has done over the year and a half he's spent in Morimiya, he still has a lot of issues. Many emotions are still beyond his grasp, and the warped ideas he learned from the Orden still have a habit of popping up. Even though he's happy to work with the XRC, he still has to reminded from time to time that he has a team now. He struggles to connect with people due to a lifetime of avoiding emotional attachments, but the people he does manage to connect with he sees as incredibly precious.
AU History:
- His birth parents were petty criminals, the type that just can't keep themselves out of trouble and lives in the bottom rungs of society. Jun has no real memories of them, as he was handed over to an underground group called Krusnik when he was a little kid. It's not known to Jun why they handed him over, and later attempts to track them down turns up nothing but dead ends.
- Krusnik raised Jun for several years, though it was less a proper upbringing and more raising him to be an obedient child soldier with occasional experiments, with the intended goal to get him possessed by a god.
- However that plan would fail to come to fruition, as when he was a preteen Abel found him and got him out of there. They fled to Kaisou, where Abel legally adopted the kid.
- For the next several years Abel worked hard to give Jun as much of a normal life as possible. Slowly Jun came out of his shell and started playing catch up for all the things he missed. He really took to art and anime, as well as other nerdy hobbies. He attended high school and for the most part had a normal time.
- At some point he got curious enough about his own background to do something akin to a 23andMe test. He failed to track down his parents, but he managed to locate some cousins who also live in Kaisou.
- He's 18 now and currently enrolled at Kaisou University as an art major. He says he wants to live a normal life because he knows that's what everyone wants for him-- but his interests veer into the occult a lot.
AU Personality Differences: The biggest difference that since Jun's had more time away from his crazy cult life -- he's much more in touch with his emotions. He feels more confident in having emotional attachments, having family of his own. He has a better idea of what it means to have a normal life, and doesn't feel compelled to CONSTANTLY lie. Though he does still have plenty of secrets, frequently avoiding saying how much he knows about the occult and his life before he came to Kaisou.
