THIS IS AN OLD POST. IF YOU WISH TO SEE THE CURRENT APP PAGE, PLEASE GO HERE.

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

To see the previous app page, you can find it here.

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on the first and third weekend of the month, ending at 6pm EST on Sundays (so if you submit an app at 9pm on Sunday it won't get read until the following relevant weekend). Please check the calendar to see when apps will be processed next.

To join the game, you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. To invite someone, have the person apping list the name of the person inviting them, and then the inviter should comment to their app confirming the invite. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two app processing weekends of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. Sometimes revisions will be requested if there is a need to fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player/cast cap?
There are a couple caps! The first cap ia an overall player cap. Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

The second cap is on the number of players with an OU (original universe) character. To make sure OU characters do not dominate the game, there is a current limit of 35 OU players. At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open so new players get a chance to app an OU. Finally, to keep one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is an OU cast cap of 6 OU characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

PLAYER SLOTS: 33/75 filled.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 14/35 filled.

Casts near or at Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 4/6, NEAR CAP

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is an overall OU player cap as mentioned above. As of September 2023, you may only play 2 characters from the same canon.

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a third character). This wait time applies even if you drop a character.

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
At this time, brand new players have the option of choosing between Normal AU, Paranormal AU, and Original Universe. Players who have been in the game at least 3 months also get the option of apping characters from the Black Order or POKEGO factions. Details for each category are below:

Normal Modern AUs
Normals AU are exactly what it says on the tin: they're normal people. These characters have lived entirely normal lives on modern day Earth. Up until the day they joined the Libra app (aka when they join the game), they've been completely oblivious to anything strange about the world. Even if something paranormal-related did happen to them, their memories remember it as a more mundane event (for example if they got attacked by a monster, they'll remember it as a dog attack) - and it's only once they join the app may they remember how those events occurred. For the most part, their AU backstory should consist of things that could reasonably happen in a modern day Earth setting.

Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick two free regains (canon regain or an elemental power) that can be worth up to 3 points each. These regains will ICly come into effect after they join the game.

Paranormal Modern AUs
Paranormal AU characters are characters who also grew up in modern day Earth, but have experienced supernatural occurrences throughout their lives. Their experiences with the supernatural can vary wildly as long as it fits into the setting of Kaisou. Maybe they've been raised by a family aware of the supernatural, or they started as normal people and ended up crossing paths with the paranormal at some point in their lives. They may even be involved with a player-run faction (aka any faction that's not Zodiac, Black Order or POKEGO), or a new faction that you made up yourself!

These characters will get 6 extra points to be spent on elemental powers (aka Kaisou original powers) they obtained during their AU backstory. These points cannot be used for canon regains (though you are welcomed to purchase elemental powers that are similar to their canon powers, or pick something entirely new!). These points can be used for monster traits, but you need to include some explanation for why they are a monster (were they cursed? An experiment? Are their parent a monsterfucker?) and they will need to be at least half-human.

Paranormal characters can also be possessed. You can read more information about on the possesion info page.

Original Universe
Original Universe characters hail from their original world and find themselves arriving into this world through the Spirit Realm. They will not lose any memories of their canon lives, and are allowed to have any items that they could reasonably carry on their persons upon arrival without any enchantments (in other words, no cheating with a mary poppins bag). If they were carrying a magical bag, the bag will split open in the Spirit Realm and all the contents will come spilling out on the ground, forcing your character to grab only what they can carry.

Power wise, OUs can do one of the following options for their retained options. Feel free to consult the regain page for clarity on the point values.
  • 3 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 1-point regain (very low level power)
  • 2 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 2-point regain (medium level power)
  • 1 ability that has the power equivalent of a 3-point regain (advanced level power)

Retained abilities can apply to any magical items they have with them EXCEPT for anything that'd increase their inventory or would be considered otherwise gamebreaking. Any other abilities or items that don't have their powers retained will be completely depowered and will require regain points to gain back.

Black Order/POKEGO AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months

As of April 2023, players are limited to only have ONE character from each faction at a time (meaning you can have one Black Order member and one POKEGO character, but not more than one in each faction)
.

Black Order/POKEGO characters are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. However, unlike the other AU types who only begin regaining canon memories once they join the game, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities at an earlier point in their life - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident. Sometime shortly after they began remembering their past lives, they were approached by one of two factions:

THE BLACK ORDER: A secretive group devoted to protecting and preserving the Spirit Realm, particularly any realms that are considered sacred, by dispatching agents known as "Guardians" to manage supernatural incidents of note. While it varies from member to member, the Black Order aren't exactly known for being a chill group. Some Guardians join willingly while others were "strongly persuaded" to join. While you don't need to be religious to be part of the Black Order nor does it adhere to a particular religion, it is said to be funded by numerous religious denominations around the world. Thanks to that, Black Order Guardians will enjoy free housing (within reason, no mansions) and a comfortable salary to live on - though some may get a daytime job/go to school to keep up a persona. The Black Order itself is run by a mysterious council of leaders, who give orders to their Guardians to fulfill. Thanks to the constant unusual activity in Kaisou, they have decided to send members to Kaisou and join the app in order to investigate what's going on.

POKEGO: A group devoted to the research and understanding of the Spirit Realm. All in all, they tend to be less hardcore than the Black Order and all members join willingly, though sometimes it's by means as a way to avoid joining the Black Order. POKEGO is less structured than the Black Order, with the group actually being made up of several different cohorts that focus on different areas of study related to the Spirit Realm (such as flora, fauna, gate locations, gods, etc etc). For a long time they held a positive reputation in paranormal circles, but that recently took a serious hit thanks to Professor Willow and his faction's deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of sponsors (including Zodiac) have pulled out and funding has really dried up. This means POKEGO researchers will have to find their own housing and find ways to make ends meet (in other words, you're broke). These days, the remaining members of POKEGO are working towards rebuilding their organization and repairing the bridges that have been burned.

Characters apped will either be in the role of Black Order Guardian or POKEGO Researcher that's been sent to Kaisou to help investigate the situation, and will join the Libra app in the spirit of cooperation with Zodiac (and to keep an eye on everyone). It's up to you if the character had already lived in Kaisou for some time, or is completely new in town. While both of these groups are made up of people who remember their past lives, before the events of Kaisou it was well understood among these group that regaining past memories was an extremely rare occurrence (like 1 in a few million rare), that memories of their past lives were to be kept hush-hush from outsiders - and anyone who refused to comply with the rules would have their past memories erased and powers sealed. So some may not be entirely sure how to feel about these Zodiac app users that have a lot less rules to follow. Typically POKEGO/Black Order characters should be at least 16 years of age. If you wish to app a younger one, they will be considered a trainee and special accommodations will need to be made (aka you need to talk to the mod about it).

Due to their special situations, Black Order/POKEGO characters can start with 16 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 6 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Black Order/POKEGO characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

As of April 2023, POKEGO characters will be allowed 1 free pokemon that's up to horse size (and isn't a legendary) upon apping. This Pokemon will be completely depowered, but for 1 point you can unlock up to 4 of the abilities that are available for the Pokemon at Level 1 in the games. Any abilities beyond that would cost the same rates as if those abilities were on a player character. Additional pokemon would cost the same rate as a magical animal companion (aka based on size and they'd start with their level 1 abilities).

FINALLY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THEIR FACTION'S REPUTATION, BLACK ORDER AND POKEGO CHARACTERS (ESPECIALLY POKEGO) ARE LIKELY TO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF NEGATIVE CR FROM OTHER CHARACTERS EARLY ON. Please be prepared to deal with this should you choose to app from these factions. Even if your character is a nice person, they will likely have to work extra hard to gain the trust of those around them.

Other Characters: Nicholas D. Wolfwood

Character Name: Gilgamesh
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon History: should I link the wikipedia for the Epic too

Canon Personality: wew lads ok

-arrogant, cruel, tyrannical, manipulative
So just to ball of Gilgamesh's worst tendencies into one slot or we'd be here all day; Gilgamesh is the first hero, but that doesn't necessarily make him a good person. Granted, he thinks he's a good person, so that's why his D'n'D alignment on Fate/'s 'it's an RPG!' VN-sight comes up as Chaotic Good despite all the shit he pulls, but he's not necessarily a nice person. He was a tyrant king in life, grinding his people down and using them as he saw fit until he was humbled and eventually journeyed to chase and fail to find immortality. He's powerful and has no problem flaunting it or using people that are lesser than him (which is everyone) in order to find his own amusement. He is a mean, mean man when he wants to be, and he usually wants to be.

-lonely
Since Gilgamesh is the result of a magical contract between his father and the gods that ended up being 2/3rds god and 1/3rd human, he is wholly unlike everyone else in the world, humans and gods alike, so he ended up incredibly distant from everyone. He was a pleasant child, but years of watching people come to him with their wants and needs, wanting his resources and wealth--made him bitter and arrogant, and so he came to the conclusion that he was meant to sit apart from gods and humanity, refusing to act as the gods' chain to humanity, and positioning himself as an arbiter of mankind, and impartial judge who was beyond everyone in his judgement. This makes for a very lonely, solitary life, until a manic-pixie dream homunculus comes and bodies you based on the prayers your subjects raised up to the gods so you'd stop being a dick to them.

+pleasure-seeking (+hoarder)
So what do you do when you don't form meaningful connections with people? You seek things to fill the hole left behind. Gilgamesh collects all things of worth in the world--weapons, power, gold, magic objects, and he seeks unique experiences to fill his time and entertain himself with. Sometimes you goad a precariously balanced psychopath-in-hiding into full on snapping so the dude unlocks his murder-fantasies and you can have a giggle about him going absolutely bugnuts, betraying his mentor, and eventually making an orphan basement. It's all good as long as the king finds some value in what happened.

+loyal
Despite all of that terrible shit mentioned about, there is something to be said about a Gilgamesh who's found a proper master--which is to say, a Master who's subservient enough that their own ego and ambitions don't choke Gilgamesh, bore him, or piss him off, while also having enough ambition that they're interesting enough to follow. If he's come across someone he likes, he's terribly loyal to them--Enkidu is still the only being he calls friend, even now, and he sacrificed much of his personal wealth in order to chase a certain Master to the other side of the moon in order to see them safe. He wants to throw a rager of a party for Chaldea's master and gets pissy when you don't give him a week to set up. He can be very funny and frank and outlandish in the wild shit he says and thinks, he just... has to be with the right people that don't set him off down his Bad Route.

+loves humanity
Gilgamesh loves humanity. He doesn't care or love individual humans, certain notable people aside, but he does love the potential of humanity to create, to express themselves, to try to rise to their ambitions only to fail--it's admirable for someone who sees himself as an absolute, unchanging no matter the circumstances for good or ill. He also has a soft spot for children.

-hates humanity
... but he also thinks humanity as a whole are vermin and has no problem trying to eradicate them from his garden when he thinks they've maligned it. People are expendable and come back with enough time.

-holding the idiot ball
Gilgamesh's biggest controlling factor that keeps him from being an unstoppable juggernaut when he shows up is that he is so arrogant, he refuses to acknowledge that anyone can be a threat to him until they've already shot him in the forehead and cut some of his limbs off. Man's hubris makes him stupid. He would step onto a minefield simply because it was there, and because as king, he could.

AU Name: He goes by "Gil" and you will respect that. The family name is probably long and cumbersome.
AU Birthday: August 1st. bitch feels like a Leo.

AU History: For the most part, Gil's life up until now has been almost... mundane. Obnoxiously so. There's nothing interesting about being born to wealthy parents who were distant and used their money to dote on and raise their son, a by all accounts charismatic young man who wasn't scholar material, but was intelligent enough to get excellent grades, athletic enough to do well in sports, and generally be a golden boy... when he applied himself. It's almost boring to say, but Gil was a lonely, frustrated child who turned inward, polite enough and generous enough with his resources to be 'liked' by people but never connected to them, internalizing his 'friendships' the same way most people would think of feeding koi in a pond from a quarter feeder.

He turned a inwardly lonely but outwardly idyllic childhood into a passable attempt through higher education and business school, and when he graduated with honors enough that his family looked upon him very favorably, his mother and father gave him enough money to start the kind of business that stupid tech websites interview the hot young CEO about to find out about how he started from nothing with nothing but his own grit, ingenuity, and a cash injection from his oil baron father. Gil used his ability to read people to figure out what they wanted from him so he could perform accordingly to read markets, and his little startup blossomed into a behemoth of an umbrella corporation that was very good at acquiring other businesses, unafraid to capitalize on new trends and stick his hands into new, interesting pies, usually coming out ahead as he turned his Gardens of Babylon into a corporation that was actually dozens of businesses in a trench coat.

Now a self-made man with more money than sense, Gil turned his attentions to once again, trying to find something interesting. Art, antiques, travel, 'culture experiences', expensive technology, cryptocurrency, startup businesses, beautiful people, Gil ran through everything rich people with more money than sense were supposed to go through in order to try and find something, anything to really care about.

It wasn't until he visited a museum with some dead king's shiny things on display that Gil had his first brush with the strange--he went from exhibit to exhibit with his arm candy, making pithy comments as they looked at old tapestries and extravagant bits of metalwork, pausing to look at a strange golden object in a place of prominence in the middle of the exhibit.

'The King's Key'.

It was golden and an odd, geometric device; it was the ugliest thing by far in the collection, and Gil got himself thrown out of the exhibition because he could not stop himself from crossing the velvet rope to pick it up, finding himself in another time, another place, another mind as he held a spinning, improbable sword, all the power of the cosmos in his fingers as he looked out across a desert at an advancing army, his arm swung up to rewrite the universe to his will--

And that's how Gil was gently encouraged to not make use of his patron's subscription to museum for a few months.

Since then, Gil's been looking for something that makes him feel like that ugly lump of metal did--and the world around him has grown very strange indeed. He's noticed things he's never noticed before; strange people, strange occurrences, things that should alarm him and have him spending some of his money on psychiatric help... if only it weren't the most exciting thing to happen to him in what feels like the entirety of his life. He tried to find more answers and information among his favorite antiques dealers and old-stuff-havers, only to find that at least one of them had, like an asshole, moved without telling him, and so Gil followed him to an odd city by the name of Kaisou, and, well.

Sometimes you wake up and your eyes are red. It's been an experience so far.

AU Personality Differences: A lot of the more outright violent and vicious parts of Gil's personality are tamped down--he's not an immortal godking who can just lord over people, so he's had to learn how to lean more on being manipulative and using his social power and monetary influence to get what he wants. He's still kind of a catty bitch and will absolutely go for the throat on people, but he's a lot more King-in-his-Reigning-Days Caster than he is Tyrannical Young Archer, though that's always simmering just below the surface because he's still a lonely asshole with no friends and minimal patience for stuff That Are Not About Him or Isn't Interesting to Him because he has Main Character Syndrome in his own mind.

Character Name: Kamisato Ayato
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon History: Over here

Canon Personality:

🌸 Ayato, being the head of the Kamisato Clan, is not one who willingly jumps into the fray until he has collected all the pieces. That is to say that he is incredibly clever and cunning, using his presence in the background to change the game board to one that will suit everyone’s needs rather than just one. He’s a silent presence and would rather it stay that way, as this allows him to serve the people of Inazuma without the scrutiny or the weight of the public’s eyes on his every move.

🌸 One of Ayato's talents is his language. As the leader of the Kamisato Clan, he is a man who has been taught the ways of leading by his family name and therefore is careful in how he speaks. To put it simply: he is a man who talks with others often, and with incredible wit. He does not always mean what he says, but he also does not always say what he means. A bit of a 5D chess player, here.

🌸 He’s got a rather mischievous streak in the fact that he tends to be cheery and patient so often, it can unnerve people, including some of his servants. Ayato fancies doing some rather… questionable things regarding food, so much so he’s brought terror to Thoma any time he mentions a β€œhot pot challenge.” There’s also the fact that he sometimes purposely leaves his words open-ended to let others assume the worst and grow nervous because of it.

That doesn’t, of course, mean Ayato is unkind, he just has very little time to spare for small chat and normal conversation outside of things involving the Kamisato Clan and the Yashiro Commission. When he can get away with it, Kamisato Ayato is a fucking shit and he makes no effort to hide this at all.

🌸 Obedience and loyalty are the most important aspects of anyone’s demeanor, to Ayato. Having survived several assassinations since he became the clan’s head, his trust usually is kept only for those close to him and it extends only to those who prove they are also worthy of receiving it. Itto and Thoma both follow Ayato unwaveringly, knowing that he works to better Inazuma and her people, and they in turn have his respect and his commitment to them as a group.

🌸 Family is what matters to him more than anything else, and it’s his utmost priority. His care and concern for his sister Ayaka, while it doesn’t seem apparent at first, is so strong that it may seem blinding to others, and he cares just as equally for his servants and those who work for him. The common people are who Ayato treasures the most in terms of the public, always choosing to do work behind closed doors and catching corrupt officials before they make too much of a mess in Inazuma as a whole.

AU Name: Hinoki Ayato
AU Birthday: March 26th
Faction: Black Order

AU History:

🌸 The Hinoki family's experience with the supernatural began with Ayato's grandfather. On one of his strolls in the family estate, he came across an injured fox. Fearing that the animal may end up even more hurt if it tried to leave (and also to honor O-Inari), the grandfather took the fox inside and nursed it back to health. Turns out that fox was actually a kitsune, and she blessed the family estate with protection magic to keep the family safe for all the kindness she was given.

🌸 Over the years, Ayato's family has used their estate as a place of rest and recuperation, a safe haven, if supernatural creatures end up there on the grounds. The family would happily take care of the creatures that were injured and assist them until they could leave again, and while some heard about the estate through word of mouth, most could not visit due to the protection magic surrounding it.

🌸 Ayato was born as the oldest of three siblings. His father and mother were older when they had their kids, and taught them about what they knew of the supernatural. Every once in a while, the children would help their parents be hosts for those who came due to injury or other issues.

🌸 Despite having weird strangers sometimes visit his home, Ayato lived a relatively normal life. Even though none of his family members had careers in law, he took a liking to it and decided to become a lawyer. He skipped a grade in his high school years and applied for law school once he graduated, living away from his family for a time as he worked towards his bar examination.

🌸 After several years of study and schoolwork, Ayato took his bar examination and passed, leading him one step closer to becoming a lawyer. Needing to finish the last part of the required work before achieving his career, he moved back home to the Hinoki estate. His apprenticeship was close enough that he had no trouble traveling to and from there, bringing him back into the fold with family traditions. He learned more of what was done with supernatural visitors, sometimes even taking over a specific job that his parents usually did themselves.

🌸 On one particular night, the family was preparing to eat dinner when they heard a loud bang against the estate gates. When they ventured out to see what the noise was, they found a man leaning against the wall injured. Immediately, Ayato's father went to call the local hospital, but the man begged him not to, stating that the bill to go and be looked at would be higher than he could afford. Having not much else in terms of choice, they tried to bring him inside, but the man seemed hesitant, unsure if it was fine to intrude upon a home full of strangers. The family assured him that it was all right, and he was welcome to come inside.

🌸 Dinner was spent taking care of this stranger and tending to his wounds, while Ayato and his sisters set up the spare upstairs bedroom for him to sleep in. In the morning, they planned to call a doctor to make sure he could be looked at, all on the family's expense. Time was spent getting to know this man, a businessman who had just come from the countryside to return home, when he was swiped by an oncoming car.

🌸 With a busy day ahead of them, everyone said their goodnights and went to their rooms, including the stranger. For Ayato, his parents had him take his sisters upstairs to put them to bed, despite the girls being far too old for it. He used the time as a playful joke, telling his siblings that he was in charge, and they just laughed and ignored him as siblings do. After finally getting the youngest sister into bed and asleep, Ayato went to leave the room– only to hear his parents talking with someone downstairs.

🌸 Pressing his ear to the door allowed him to hear this new voice state that they were looking for a specific person, though he couldn't make out the details. At best, he could tell his parents were beginning to sound more and more concerned as they spoke.

🌸 Before he could leave the room, however, his oldest sister suddenly was awake. Ayato turned to see her get up out of bed and stare straight ahead with no reaction. When he went to speak with her, she didn't reply. Grabbing her arm had no effect either. Concerned, he followed after his sister, trying to reason with her and get her attention as she walked out of her bedroom, crossed the hallway, and walked right into the guest bedroom... the one that currently held the stranger.

🌸 Unsure of what was going on, Ayato continued to try and get his sister to look at him, or even get her to respond. When she began to move things in the room and reorganize items on shelves and the floor, he had no idea what else to do other than try to stop her.

🌸 This was a poor choice, as the next thing Ayato heard was a single word in his head. Leave. Out of nowhere, he lost all control over his body, suddenly finding himself turning on his heel and walking back out the door. Unable to stop himself and still unable to get his sister to respond, he was locked in place outside the room for almost two minutes, incapable of doing anything at all and body refusing to turn around and go back into the room.

🌸 The trauma of losing his own bodily autonomy flooded his mind with memories of his past life, hands beginning to shake even as time passed. A man in uniform– a policeman– found him standing outside the room in the hallway moments later, and quietly motioned for him to come downstairs without making a sound. Ayato held onto his composure as best he could and silently went downstairs to the living room where his parents were. They explained the policeman was looking for the stranger they had helped earlier, and that this man was actually very dangerous.

🌸 For nearly twenty minutes there was no sign of his oldest sister, the policeman managing to find the youngest and bring her down before going back up to the room. Eventually, the officer emerged again with Ayato's sister, leading her out of the room and having the family guide her down the steps while he went back in. Nearly a minute after that, his sister returned to normal– just in time to hear this inhuman hissing noise that filtered through the home.

🌸 All hell broke loose after that. The interior of the estate suffered as a horrendous game of cat and mouse took over, causing damage in several rooms as the stranger tried to escape the clutches of the policeman going after him. The grounds outside were not spared any mercy either, as the entire grounds was torn apart in an effort to capture the escapee. Both the stranger and the policeman continued their chase off the Hinoki estate afterwards, leaving the entire family speechless and terribly afraid. Ayato's father, overwhelmed with everything that happened at once, had to be taken to the emergency room for a frail heart.

🌸 The Black Order found Ayato a few days later, sitting in the hospital beside his ailing father. They gave him his choices, and not feeling like he had much of an alternative, he joined them. It was then that he learned that the stranger was a vampire, and since the vampire was invited into their home, he could bypass the estate's protection magic. Likewise, the police officer that had saved them was actually a werewolf, and he had to shatter the protective magic using ancestral powers of his own in order to check in on them. Their home was no longer a safe haven after that night.

🌸 Ayato's father passed shortly after his son was sent to the Europe location, and he was denied a return for the funeral as well as for seeing his family. It would take his own sisters to tell him later in writing that his mother had grown terribly ill afterwards; the repair, care, and upkeep of their estate weighed heavily on her health.

AU Personality Differences:

🌸 Ayato is less familiar with leading an entire home in this AU, and while the entire prospect seems daunting, he'll do as best he can. While he still has his usual confidence, there's a certain hesitance he has in making decisions for his family overall. Despite this, Ayato tries to not let it show.

🌸 He has a great fear of losing control over his body, thanks to the vampire dominating him and forcing him to obey one-word orders. While it takes a lot for him to lose his composure over it, every now and then he has nightmares about it and the danger he was in that night.

Element: He’s Hydro, so water!

Purchased Powers:

🌸 Hair color change - 1 point
🌸 Hydro Vision - 3 points
🌸 A calligraphy pen from his mother on his ceremony day - 1 point
🌸 Kamisato Art: Kyouka - The first of the Kamisato arts, this allows Ayato to leave behind a water replica of himself as he moves backward out of reach. The hydro replica explodes with AoE damage if enemies are close, and marks Ayato's next set of four strikes with his sword as hydro instead of normal attacks - 4 points
🌸 Haran Geppaku Futsu - Ayato's sword from his time as the head of the clan and the Yashiro Commission - 2 points

Character Name: Lapis De Fiore
Canon: Original
Canon History:
Lapis De Fiore was born in Campobasso, Italy, to Caprice and Giulio De Fiore and with a sister 14 years her elder, Lacuna. Her younger years were peaceful, though she had a penchant for imaginary friends as she grew up - which were actually spirits she could see. The reason behind this is due to her Grandmother, Ginevra, who is actually not human - rather she's an old, old eldritch being who replaced the moon with her eye many years ago. Boredom and a desire for experimentation led her to having a son, Lapis' father, however he proved to be painfully normal - instead, supernatural abilities started to manifest in her youngest granddaughter. She was also the current head of a substantial network of supernatural information, informants and certain unsavoury individuals - this was all hidden from her very normal family. So as Lapis' powers increased in potency, more spirits were drawn to the family household and her parents found themselves at their wits end; not even the local priests were able to help, and it was rapidly putting them in danger.

As it became too much for her family and seeing the fruits of her experiment, Ginevra stepped in, offering to take care of her granddaughter and help her with these strange abilities. Her parents, unsure of what to do, were quick to pass Lapis to her; she barely has contact with her biological family after this, though her elder sister does her best to keep in contact. From there, Lapis spent the next few years home-schooled by her Grandmother, her powers making it difficult to go to an actual school - through her she mingled with many supernatural beings and entities. One important relationship established was with a man called Schwarz, who is the chosen of an old god of chaos and leader of a powerful cult; their relationship becomes sibling-like, due to similar circumstances. And through Schwarz, she meets his "totally-not-a-boyfriend" Weiss and his half-brothers, who are part of the church. In particular she has a... turbulent relationship with one of the brothers, Nacht.

As the years passed, it became clear that Lapis was being raised to follow in Ginvera's footsteps, learning the tools of the trade regarding their business and also embracing her strange abilities more and more; eventually becoming the one to deal with entities normal exorcists couldn't. Her attunement with spirits and her strong spiritual power made her ideal for dealing with more malevolent and dangerous entities; while she would always try to soothe and calm the dead, she also had the power to strike them down when needed.

Except one job she takes goes very wrong; an attempted removal of a spirit thwarted when the spirit takes the chance to possess her when she’s caught off guard. The spirit takes her body, effectively killing her for at least an hour - however, Lapis is able to take her body back, by literally tearing the spirit out of her. It wounds her greatly, to the point where she should be dead, but she manages to survive. This incident awakens some of her dormant eldritch abilities, warping her powers further and granting her a strange form of immortality.

Her grandmother does nothing to shed light on what happened, simply advising that maybe it's time she go spread her wings a little. With this nudge and wanting to leave home after her incident to put some distance between them, Lapis opts to travel across some of Europe - following the trail of Schwarz and Weiss in the meantime back to Denmark.

With contacts slowly made and having established herself once more, Lapis gets to work - soon drawing the attention of a pair of mediums, the Hale siblings Elliot and Michela. While Michela finds herself drawn to Lapis, and Lapis wanting to protect Michela due to how much power she possesses, her relationship with Elliot is... difficult. His intense jealousy over how easily she handles his powers compared to the difficulty he has makes them butt heads repeatedly - yet his desire to know more about her keeps drawing him back. While there had been the beginnings of a romantic fling, it ends poorly and now she barely tolerates the man - especially since he and Nacht are at each others throats whenever they meet.

Supernatural activity keeps steadily increasing over the next year, with Michela’s own powers growing, and Lapis becoming more and more inhuman. Ginevra hints towards something beyond humanity in their bloodline, pointing her towards certain cults that worship a "certain being" that may bring about the reset of the world and is the cause in the spike of supernatural occurrences.
Canon Personality:
πŸŒ™ Lapis, on first meetings, comes across as someone cold and aloof. She rarely expresses herself, appearing eerily calm and almost serene even in dangerous or frightening situations. And when she speaks, her tone is calm and even, rarely letting slip of how she actually feels - which at times can rub others the wrong way, especially with how blunt she is. She has a habit of being coldly short on first meetings, especially if she's working, and seems to have little consideration for what anyone else says.

πŸŒ™ The truth it, she actually feels and cares a lot. Having always possessed a difficulty with expressing herself, it only became harder as she grew up and was constantly surrounded by death and the supernatural. But Lapis does care deeply for others around her, wanting to do what she can to help others, despite how terrifying her powers can be; in contrast, she has difficulty accepting help considering she's so used to being independent. Unfortunately being very socially awkward tends to make this difficult to properly show - when one is raised around ghosts and such, they don't develop the best social skills. Combine this with a tendency to have a limited filter and be very blunt, along with a deadpan sense of humour, she can lean towards tactless at times.

πŸŒ™ While she speaks softly, she isn't a meek person. Lapis is used to taking charge and making sure her voice is heard, and tends to be incredibly stubborn. Lapis is very much a 'her way or the high way' type of person, though she knows when to fold if it will later benefit her. This usually results into her pulling people into her schemes and ideas, possessing a centered confidence in herself that makes it hard for her to waver. Even in the face of great dangers, horrendous injuries or terrifying monstrosities, she won't waver - being around death and such all her life has made her basically fearless to an extreme degree. Why should she fear them when it's all she's ever known?

πŸŒ™ Lapis tends to be incredibly calm, almost frighteningly so, and can keep a level head even in more stressful scenarios; though she's able to be a grounding force for those more anxious than her. Though she won't hesitate to put her foot down if she feels someone is pushing her limits, and she doesn't tend to spare much patience for people trying to be difficult - how she handles her on-and-off partner, Nacht, is an example of this. He's a deliberately difficult man, but she doesn't hesitate to reign him in and chew him out (though it tends to be ineffective). And her anger is a fearsome thing when truly provoked. She has learned to never forgive and forget, and to always get back at someone no matter what - which can lead to her holding onto grudges for a long time.

πŸŒ™ Despite caring greatly for others, Lapis also has a very shaky grasp on morality. Lapis has been raised by a criminal, has been surrounded by the more unsavoury types all her life and so isn't one to really care about laws and such. It does allow her to approach everyone with an open mind, caring little if they have committed crimes before, but it also means she will play dirty or do whatever it takes to accomplish her goals. It doesn't help that she does have a slight sadistic streak, as she won't hesitate to mess with and hurt someone who has wronged her. And she is capable of great cruelty if pushed enough, but luckily it takes a lot for her to reach that point.

πŸŒ™ When someone does manage to get Lapis to open up, she reveals herself to be someone lonely who deeply cares about the few people close to her. She expresses her emotions with much more ease, and is more in tune with how the people she cares about feels - always quick to do her best to comfort them if they seem upset or provide support if needed. This is also when she reveals she has a more mischievous, playful sense of humour and can lean into teasing when she feels comfortable enough. And while she tends to have issues showing her feelings, she is very aware of them, and she's the sort of person who will confess that she cares about someone with very little hesitation.
AU Name: N/A
AU Birthday: February 12th
Faction: Black Order

AU History:
Lapis De Fiore was born in Italy to a very normal family, and with a sister a few years her senior. Her childhood was very much normal and average, besides the slight issue that Lapis had always been able to see things other shouldn't. Shadowy shapes lingering in corners, faded figures in the distance, something looking at her from the dark... Her parents said it was all an overactive imagination, and her sister would frequently tell Lapis to stop scaring her with stories like that. Not that it stopped her from mentioning it.

Especially as the sightings increased in frequency as she got older. There was one in particular, something long and lanky and unnatural that put Lapis on edge. But despite trying to alert her parents and sister, they only told her to stop trying to play trick on them. So she did her best to research this... thing, to figure out what it was and to try to drive it away; it always kept its distance, but over time it crept closer and closer. But she was still a child, and there's only so much a child can do.

But she's still able to do something. When it finally makes to strike Lapis is able to protect her sister, who is able to see the figure for the first time, as it invades their home to kill them. Lapis is only thirteen years old when she is killed - and this death awakens both her old memories and powers, reviving her and allowing her to strike back. She doesn't really remember much of what happened after that, especially as blood loss caught up with her. What had happened is that a member of the Black Order had been tracking this creature as well, but arrived a little too late to a mortally wounded but still alive girl and the butchered remains of the creature that escaped from the Spirit Realm. As well as her very traumatised family.

Lapis is brought into the Black Order quickly after that incident, and she's been with them ever since. Her powers and her eerie ability to suppress her feelings makes her perfect for more brutal or unpleasant missions, especially those of a supernatural kind. And while she very much doesn't agree with how they do things, she feels as if she has nowhere else to go. So she obeys and twists the rules in ways that won't get her in trouble, does her best to protect the other Guardians when she can and doesn't let herself think of her family - both in this life, and her previous.

Considering the usual content of her missions, being assigned to Kaisou is more of a break than anything else.
AU Personality Differences:
πŸŒ™ Lapis now has a much less tenacious hold on her humanity. She's more willing to do cruel, violent things to others and has long since suppressed her feelings when she does so. The guilt and shame is there, but it's shoved so far down she's convinced she can't feel it anymore. Also means she's more likely to embrace her sadism against those she does feels deserve it.

πŸŒ™ Since she's been trained to fight since she was young, Lapis is far more accustomed to it and is much more skilled in combat compared to her OU self. She's ready to fight things out than to try to keep talking.

πŸŒ™ Between her memories and the weirdness of her abilities, she does have a few identity issues. Lapis tends to doubt herself more often, even though she's trying to overcome it.

πŸŒ™ However, there is one positive and that's how she isn't as lonely as she was in the OU. Within the Black Order she has people like her, people who understand and are experiencing the same things - there are some she even feels comfortable talking to - so she feels more like part of a group. As much as she dislikes the Black Order, it did at least give her that.

she is not having a good time but she's doing her best

Element: Shadow
Purchased Powers:
πŸŒ™ Better than average night vision (2 points)
πŸŒ™ Glowing gold eyes (2 points)
πŸŒ™ True Immortality (4 points)
πŸŒ™ Eldritch Moon Bloodline (8 points):
- Allows her to commune with and summon the dead/demons.
- Is able to allow herself to be possessed by a spirit or demon for a certain period of time, taking on some of the power (and looks). Risks her losing herself completely and going berserk; doing this will down her for a period of time after if she doesn't go berserk.
- Power sensing restricted to areas with high concentration of death aka she can tell if people have died here, and also dark/malicious magic.
- The ability to manifest a weapon (in this case a shadowy scythe due to her attunment to the dead)
- Slight power boost in full/new moons.

Character Name: The Witch (no official name exists in canon; for the AU I went with Katida Rhydderch)
Canon: Dragon Marked For Death (DMFD official site, TVTropes page, infopost on character journal)
Canon History:
β€’ The player character in DMFD is a member of the Dragonblood Clan, which worships the Astral Dragon Atruum, who had been on the losing side of a war between the Celestials and the Astral Dragons at some point in the distant past. Due to their association with Atruum, the Dragonblood Clan as a whole is looked down upon by most people and the Clan's members are usually treated as less than human.
β€’ Each of the game's initial four PCs have vaguely-defined personal backgrounds that simply explain who they are. In the Witch's case, she lived and studied magic in the Magic Kingdom of Litus prior to its fall (which is implied to be long before the events of the game itself, so, she's likely way older than she looks), but after the family member she had been living with passed, she chose to return to the Dragonblood Clan's village, only to find that...
β€’ The village was razed by the knights of Medius, and the Clan's oracleβ€”the one with the strongest connection to Atruumβ€”taken captive. As one of the few remaining members of the Clan after this event, the PC swears revenge against the kingdom, and Atruum grants them the power necessary to make this possible. Shortly after setting out on their quest, they learn that in order to gain an audience with the king, they need to build their reputation, so they become an Adventurerβ„’ and start taking various odd jobs from people in order to do exactly that. Though they don't realize it until it's explicitly pointed out to them during the game's best ending, it eventually turns out that the specific reputation they've built is that of a total badass who will take on pretty much any job no matter how trivial or dangerous it is.
β€’ The PC eventually is invited to the castle to meet the king because he supposedly wishes to meet the Adventurer that everyone is talking about, and they accept this invitation with the intent to kill him. it turns out to be a trap and an attempt to kill them, and when they manage to fight their way out and confront the king, they never do get the opportunity they were waiting for; the king instead dies as the result of performing a ritual that was intended to grant him immortality, but unfortunately for him, his body could not handle it and also the Celestial that he and most people revered as a god was pretty mad about it. It is around this time that they also learn the fate of their oracle.
β€’ The PC later discovers that Atruum, who had previously claimed to have reflected upon his past and given up things such as war, is far less benevolent than they previously thought; his claims had been lies, and he had been waiting all along for the perfect opportunity to use the Clan to regain his power and continue his fight with the Celestials, and with the strength and power that the PC has accumulated, that opportunity has finally arisen. The PC then fights and defeats him to prevent him from consuming them to take the power they had gained, with subsequent events depending on how they defeated him.
β€’ Most of the possible outcomes of the battle with Atruum aren't great: depending on what you do, the game's three Bad Ends involve the PC either getting locked into an endless war with the Knights of Medius as a direct result of the king's death (the knights assuming that the PC did it, because why wouldn't they make that assumption about a Dragonblood), or taking the rest of Atruum's power for themselves and abandoning their humanity in the process in order to ensure he's no longer a threat to the world, or just straight up getting bodyjacked by Atruum after he was seemingly defeated because they made the stupid mistake of trying to use too much of his own power against him. The best ending is an explicit aversion of two of these, where the PC begins taking Atruum's power and almost loses their humanity in the process, and then after this is narrowly averted they escape from the knights (with help from several of the people they had helped before) instead of fighting back against them, and eventually set off to start a new life elsewhere and continue doing Adventurer things.

Canon Personality: (NOTE: this is a copy/paste from when I apped her to Daybreak Academy; while that was an AU game, the only thing that had really changed for her there was what, specifically, Atruum was.)
β€’ When she's acting with a specific goal in mind, she is quite persistent and will keep pushing on despite any resistance unless it becomes completely obvious that she isn't going to be getting anywhere. It's also rather hard to convince her to abandon any particular course of action unless you can make a really good case for her to do so, which can be a good or bad thing depending on the situation.
β€’ Though some situations will be difficult for her regardless because she has the physical strength of a wet noodle, she is able to adapt to most situations and will do so given any real opportunity to both assess the situation and adjust her approach accordingly. Granted, most of these adjustments thus far have tended to amount to using different magic that hasn't proven to be ineffective, but...
β€’ Despite everything (both the Bad Treatment and the Bad Decisions), she is still ultimately not a terrible person; though her personal goal of revenge against the king of Medius isn't exactly good (it should be noted, however, that the king is not a good person himself), she was intending to do it entirely for the family/friends/etc. that have been lost because of him, and she was willing to help other people out with their own things along the way despite not expecting very much in return. She won't go out of her way to cause problems for other people unless she believes she has reason toβ€”if you leave her alone, she'll leave you alone.
β€’ She is very, very slow to trust due to having a history of being treated very poorly by anyone that is not already close to her; the Clan's reputation was not great, given their association with Atruum. Expecting such treatment to continue and considering it to be normal, she will expect the worst of people, and tends toward being suspicious of anyone that openly acts nice toward her unless they can outright prove their intent or it goes on long enough that she starts to actually accept that that's just the way they are.
β€’ Whether she acts on them or not, she tends not to let go of most offenses. Minor things like simply being insulted may go ignored because she's far more than used to that, but any seriously poor treatment (threatening/harming her, etc.) will be remembered and she will be on guard with the person or people responsible if she's put in a position where she has to deal with them again.
β€’ She barely has a sense of humor, if she even has one at all; expect her to Not Get It. For anything that she does actually Get, she'll tend not to really show it as she actively tries not to be too expressive, but usually this works a little too well and she ends up coming off as completely unamused, which can potentially lead to some misunderstandings.

AU History:
β€’ Katida was born and raised in Kaisou. Her parents were originally from Wales but moved to Kaisou themselves at some point in the years before she was born.
β€’ Her elementary school years were a bit rough on her; some of her classmates back then found her name kind of funny and she got teased for it a lot. It bothered her enough that she doesn't really like dealing with most of them much even now, and she also had developed a preference for having her first name shortened to "Kat" instead of it being used in its entirety. She'll accept "Kit" as a nickname too, but only from people she feels comfortable enough with.
β€’ Her mom's part of a pretty big family that does equally-big reunions every so often. Sometimes this means relatives coming to visit from overseas, and other times it means traveling abroad to visit them; it kind of depends on who wants to host the thing.
β€’ Katida met her one of her cousins during one such reunion and they hit it off pretty well. They've been friends and kept in touch ever since, and then sometime before the start of the previous school year, said cousin moved in with Katida's family after Katida's parents extended an invitation for her to do so for education reasons. Said cousin was originally going to be another PC coming in alongside Kat the first time around but they never apped, so I'm going to say that they decided to head back home after awhile.
β€’ Katida is currently a high school senior. She does fairly well in her classes but not perfectly, and is not involved in any extracurricular activities.
β€’ For a little while last year, she was on the Libra app and subjected to some of Kaisou's, well, Kaisou-ness. During that time, she began slowly acquiring some of the magic wielded by her past self, and a literal dragon head rather painfully sprouted on top of her head and then just sat there like some weird maybe-living hat. She fell off the app and went back to normal after awhile, and as such she has no memory of any of this...yet.

AU Personality Differences:
β€’ She is way less-stubborn, and also generally averse to conflict; she's unlikely to continue pushing things after encountering significant resistance unless it involves something she feels super strongly about.
β€’ Because her life is much better compared to what it is in canon, she doesn't have that whole revenge thing going on.
β€’ She was teased a lot as a kid and still expects to be picked on to some degree even now (either over her name, or over her interests; she's pretty into fantasy stuff) but she hasn't been treated anywhere near as badly as in canon. She's still generally wary around people because of this and doesn't really like dealing with them directly and will still get pretty mad if given any problems, but she also has an easier time with trusting people as long as they don't give her problems.
β€’ She actually has a sense of humor (unless it involves her name) but still tries not to react too strongly to things she finds funny.

Character Name: Kaveh
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon History: Lore here!

Canon Personality: Described as "an aesthete troubled by reality" and someone "who perhaps cares a bit too much about too many things" by his official introduction, Kaveh clings fiercely to his ideals, even to his own detriment. Often to his own detriment, in fact.

Kaveh claims that mutual assistance, fairness, and righteous anger are the forces that drive the world, and he also firmly believes in the intrinsic value art holds for the individual and humanity as a whole. He's willing to make great sacrifices to uphold these beliefs, even if chasing his ideals has left him in debt, penniless, and technically homeless if not for the mercy of a former friend.

Ironically, despite his near constant misfortune, Kaveh is not a stupid man. He's noted as a genius by multiple characters, an exceptionally brilliant architect with a true gift for design. He's also a hard worker and genuinely passionate about his career. The biggest obstacle to Kaveh finding success and turning his life around is ultimately Kaveh himself.

Kaveh simply can't bring himself to put his own goals ahead of the needs of other people. This is partly due to his deeply compassionate nature, but there's a hidden dark side to his continual self-sacrifice. He's spent much of his life punishing himself for his perceived role in the death of his father, believing he deserves whatever suffering comes his way.

AU Name: Kaveh Karim
AU Birthday: July 9th

AU History: Kaveh's early childhood was a happy one. Unfortunately, those days wouldn't last. Kaveh's father ultimately perished in what was deemed an accident, but the abruptness with which he had disappeared and turned up dead shortly afterward shattered Kaveh's mother. From that point on, even though he was only in middle school, Kaveh was forced to step up and take care of his mother. The reversal of mother and child, as well as the trauma of his father's death, impacted Kaveh deeply and inevitably shaped the person he would eventually become.

By the time he graduated high school, Kaveh's mother was still an emotionally fragile wisp of a woman, but he'd managed to coax enough life back into her that she encouraged him to leave for college. Kaveh did his best to ignore the nagging sense of guilt and applied to several colleges, his high test scores helping him earn his way into his ideal college.

After he left his home town, he still kept regular contact with his mother over the phone, but life soon had another surprise in store for him: his mother met someone and fell in love. This by itself should have been a good thing, but this whirlwind romance resulted in his mother selling her house and moving across the country to be with the new love of her life. Kaveh only found out when she invited him to attend the wedding, and by then it was far too late to have any dissenting opinion on the matter. She remarried, and Kaveh went back to school, telling himself that it was a good thing his mother was finally happy again, for now he could focus on his studies without guilt.

It was at this point in his life that he met Abasi al-Haytham.

Despite their differing years, they were assigned to live together as roommates. Complete opposites in terms of personality and values, their tendency toward loud and embarrassingly public disagreements became a running joke among their peers. Some even put together a betting pool, sure that one or both of them would find alternative housing just to get away from each other. Contrary to everyone else's expectations, however, Kaveh and Abasi did share a genuine friendship beneath their bickering.

At least, they did until their falling out. It all started with a call from Kaveh's mother: her new husband, for all that she loved him, turned out to have a gambling problem. All the proceeds from selling Kaveh's childhood home were long gone, and the pair had accumulated more debt than either could feasibly make back on their current salaries. Kaveh himself had already taken a loan to help pay his college tuition fees, since the scholarship he'd qualified for hadn't covered everything. He'd been working a part-time job on the side in an effort to keep the amount of debt from spiraling out of control, but with his mother's call, the delicate house of cards he'd built came tumbling down.

Although she hadn't outright asked him for financial aid, Kaveh gave his mother all his savings to help pay off her husband's debt. Not only did this massively set him back, but he began to siphon off money from his part-time work to help his mother and step-father get back on their feet. Unfortunately, this came at the cost of his own well-being, Kaveh working himself to the bone while struggling to balance his school life with the pressing needs of his family. Abasi noticed the shift in his roommate's behavior and quickly put two and two together.

Unlike their previous arguments, this one quickly turned personal in an ugly way, and neither Kaveh nor Abasi were willing to budge on their respective viewpoints. Kaveh dropped out of college, putting his degree on hold until he could dig himself out of the hole he'd ended up in. In the process, he also cut ties with his college life, including Abasi. Their unlikely friendship had ended on an incredibly sour note.

Unfortunately, Abasi was right about at least one thing: Kaveh couldn't force his step-father to stop gambling, and no matter how much money Kaveh sent them, his mother always seemed to need more. She never openly begged him for aid, but she also didn't need to. Kaveh was more than willing to bleed himself dry, certain that if he just worked hard enough, eventually things would turn around. Ironically, they did, but not in the way he expected.

His step-father won the jackpotβ€”literally. The sudden windfall was transformative for Kaveh's mother and her husband, the pair moving to France in celebration of their newfound wealth. Kaveh was left behind, still buried in debt, with nothing to show for his efforts. Now that he was the one in need of financial rescue, he couldn't bring himself to intrude on his mother's happiness and instead dug himself deeper into debt, taking out another larger loan so that he could return to college and finish earning his degree.

However, misfortune seemed to follow Kaveh wherever he went. Although he finished his college degree and earned his architect license, starting his own design firm, Kaveh never really got his "big break". What clients he did attract never took full advantage of his brilliance and talents, Kaveh's aspirations hampered by the rigid uniformity of modern corporate design. He longed for a wealthy patron who would let him build something truly spectacular, but no such chance ever came his way.

An unfortunate dry spell, coupled with a major project he was counting on unexpectedly falling through at the last minute, ended up landing Kaveh in hot water yet again. Kaveh was evicted from his apartment, leaving him penniless, saddled with crippling amounts of student debt, and now technically homeless.

Heading to his favorite bar to drown his sorrows in a few much-needed drinks, Kaveh's mind eventually turned to his once-friend Abasi al-Haytham. Although Kaveh still couldn't bring himself to admit that Abasi may have been right, Kaveh found himself missing his former friend's analytical mind. Even when they couldn't agree on a particular subject, simply debating with Abasi usually helped Kaveh put his thoughts in order. Drunk and incredibly lonely, Kaveh used the bar's free wifi to search for any clues online of what became of Abasi al-Haytham after they parted ways, years prior.

Even once he sobered up, the following morning, he couldn't get what he'd seen the night prior out of his head. Abasi had graduated with honorsβ€”no surprise thereβ€”and apparently moved to some city Kaveh had never heard of. He now worked at a place called Kaisou University as an adjunct professor, though given his lack of people skills, Kaveh honestly couldn't picture him actually dealing with students. Still, he seemed to be doing well for himself.

Kaveh's life, in contrast, was a complete mess. He'd absolutely hit rock bottom. Since there was nowhere else he could go but up, he might as well start things off on the right foot. Kaveh decided, impulsively, that he would go to Kaisou and settle his lingering regrets about the end of their friendship. After that... well, he'd surely figure something out.

Of course, Kaveh couldn't have expected his former friend would shrewdly take stock of his pitiable condition and ultimately take him in.

AU Personality Differences: Truthfully, Kaveh hasn't changed much. He's still a hopeless idealist who constantly gets himself into trouble. While he considers himself an architect first and foremost, Kaveh has been struggling to get his design firm properly off the ground, which means he's gone through a lot of odd jobs on the side to keep himself afloat. Anything that doesn't require a degree and tends to have a high turnover rate is good enough for a man perpetually stuck in a financial pinch, so he's worked anything from retail to construction to delivery driver, giving him an eclectic job history for a so-called architect. He's also very good with his hands, and he's dabbled enough with both carpentry and electronics to build some impressive thingsβ€”if only he had the materials and capital to do so.

Character Name: Nacht
Canon: OC
Canon History:
Nacht's world is pretty similar to modern day Earth with a few key differences. The world is filled with supernatural entities that are hidden from human eyes, watched over by two deities: the Goddess of Order, and the God of Chaos. The two divinities once physically led individual factions of a precursor race, clashing with each other in what would become the first God Wars. The centuries of conflict nearly destroyed the planet, and so the gods called a truce and retreated into their own dimensions to prevent this disaster from occurring again.

Millions of years passed, and the human race rediscovered the two divinities, attempting to communicate with them and seek their guidance. The two gods vowed to never interfere with the world ever again, but they would lend their blessings to chosen mortals so that humans could continue to survive amidst the myriad supernatural races. The God of Chaos is also the god of death, and he would collect the souls of the fallen for the Goddess so that she can reincarnate them into the world again. The Goddess became revered as a protector by the church, taking on a similar role to the Christian God. The God of Chaos's followers kept to the shadows, eliminating any supernatural entity or ambitious human that was powerful enough to pose a threat to the world.

In modern times, a prophecy arose regarding the two gods: that the Scions of Order and Chaos would clash and herald the second God Wars. The victor would then destroy the loser and their parent, leaving only one deity behind to reshape the new world from the ruins of the old. Around the same time, four demigod children were born with the bloodline of the two gods. It is not known whether the children were created as a response to the prophecy, or that the prophecy foretold their future. Regardless, the demigods actively avoided conflict with each other to deny the prophecy, and nothing has resulted from it yet.

Nacht is the youngest of the three demigods born to the Goddess of Order and a mortal woman. He shares the same blessed bloodline as his older brothers, but chose to rebel against his birthright for this very reason. It is an open secret amongst the church's inner circle that the two younger demigods were created as backups in case the oldest one failed to stave off the apocalypse, and the two of them coped with this in different ways. Morgen chose to interpret his duty in his own way and walked the path of a healer, but Nacht simply gave it the metaphorical middle finger and rebelled against his bloodline in his own way.

Despite his wishes, he was unable to fully escape his past, and he settled for becoming an assassin for the church. He altered his own divine magic into the power of concealment and suppression, taking out many dangerous targets in the name of preserving peace and protecting the masses. Eventually he was tasked by the church to act as a watcher for a human with an eldritch bloodline - Lapis, the granddaughter of a 'family friend'. Despite Nacht's horrible personality, they got along surprisingly well and he accompanies her around on her investigations just in case she goes berserk and needs his intervention. It's complicated.

Canon Personality:
Awful. This is basically Nacht's first impression to most people, and he doesn't care at all. Still, it's possible to reason out his priorities and modus operandi after observing him for a while. He trusts only himself and cares about only himself - this forms the core of his behaviour and goals.

Nacht is very independent and hates being restricted - this stems from his 'birthright' to serve the people and protect the world as a scion of the Goddess. He never asked for this duty, and his siblings are a lot more proficient at it than him, so he feels that he is not needed and that his duty would relegate him to being a backup of someone else. Thus he values his own individuality and control over his actions above all else - only serious threats or consequences can dissuade him from doing what he wants to do. In the same vein, being forced to follow rules is the fastest way to incite his resentment and hatred.

He is also very selfish, caring only about himself and things that he finds interesting (including people). Again, this comes from his desire to be as dissonant from his bloodline as possible - to be a devil instead of a saint. While he wouldn't intentionally hurt innocent people, he wouldn't go out of his way to help them either. Most people are insignificant to him, and he doesn't shy away from voicing that. He also brushes off others' accusations or negative opinions easily, because he doesn't think they matter. In the same way, he lacks morals, not hesitating to kill to fulfil his desires. However, he's smart enough to keep public decency and adhere to acceptable conduct so that he can continue his pursuits unhindered.

When Nacht does care about something, he cares intensely and deeply. If a person or object has captured his interest or amusement, he would spare a surprising amount of effort to help or acquire them. This is in stark contrast to his usual uncaring behaviour. If the other person reciprocates his interest, they would earn a small portion of his loyalty. The same also applies to grudges - he never forgets anyone who has broken a deal with him or treated him poorly, and his vengeful personality often leads him to obsessively enact his revenge. In a way, this adds to his uncaring personality in a vicious cycle: if he doesn't expose himself, he wouldn't be betrayed.

It's easy to see that he's a prideful person. He takes care of his appearance and dresses in a stylish manner, never settling for low-quality imitations when he can work towards the genuine article. His pride isn't all hot air, either - he has trained relentlessly to hone his skills and is proud of his expertise. In the same vein, he is surprisingly hardworking and dedicated to his job. He takes promises and contracts very seriously, and would never break a willing agreement. If he's on the clock, he would behave professionally, almost as if he turned into an entirely different person.

Nacht has vowed to break away from his bloodline to pursue his freedom. Even though he puts up a confident front, he still hasn't found a path for himself and harbours some anxiety about being 'lost'. He lives his day-to-day existence as an assassin and takes out his assigned targets, but work is just that - tedious and boring. He spends his free time seeking out things that can bring him excitement, but has yet to find anything that can hold his interest for the long term. The listlessness in his heart instils a measure of nihility into his attitude, further adding to his unpleasant personality.

AU Name: N/A
AU Birthday: February 2
Faction: Black Order

AU History:
Nacht was born to an ordinary family in Norway as the younger of two boys. His older sibling, Weiss, was an overachiever who was able to accomplish anything perfectly, bearing the sole flaw of a stoic personality - at least, that was what his parents would say. While they did not pressure Nacht too much, he was constantly compared to his older sibling, and this resulted in his resentment taking root since a young age.

Weiss mysteriously disappeared when Nacht was twelve years old. His parents and schoolmates all forgot about him, and his belongings vanished as well - as if he never existed, and Nacht was the only one who remembered anything about him. Believing that Weiss was taken away by fairies, he tried to secretly investigate and look for answers, but his efforts were hindered at every corner by his young age and the insistence of his parents that everything was fine.

After four years of chasing 'fairies', Nacht developed a reputation as a delinquent (who could still ace his exams) and an unscrupulous youth. His parents gave up on trying to dissuade him and waited for him to grow out of his 'fantasy phase'. Unbeknownst to him, his past life's divine aura had begun manifesting. He went on a school trip to the glacier national park and passing demon became enraged by his presence, making a detour to attack the group.

Nacht awakened to his old memories and powers when the demon stabbed him. He managed to kill the demon with his bloodline power, but was left severely wounded and close to death. The Black Order was monitoring the glacier (which was somehow spawning demons through a gate) and quickly took him from his school group, rewriting the memories of everyone else involved. He was then forcibly inducted into the Order at age 16 and worked for them ever since.

In truth, Weiss was taken from his family and his existence wiped in a similar manner. Five years later, Nacht caught a glimpse of him while working for the Black Order, but Weiss had become possessed and did not recognize or acknowledge him anymore. The possession changed his very identity, and Nacht was left deeply stunned by the revelation. He became avoidant of Weiss (now known as 'Ramiel'), and fell into a listless haze. Thankfully, he was then given a new assignment: to watch another member of the Order, and use his powers to suppress her if she went out of control. This renewed his interest in living and returned him to his previous prickly personality.

AU Personality Differences:
Nacht is no longer burdened by his divine bloodline and his negative traits (calluousness, bitterness, antagonism) are less severe. Still, his core personality has not changed and he retains his DND Lawful Evil attitude.

He has memory bleed issues and sometimes has difficulty distinguishing between his previous life and his current life. In such moments of confusion, he's more prone to lashing out and aggressive behaviour.

He no longer has the demigod 'cheat code', so his pride and willingness to take brazen risks are toned down by a lot. He's also more careful with his 'public image' and makes an effort to avoid getting into too much trouble.

He is more willing to trust others and work with them, since he's 'just another Guardian' now and not the Goddess' Chosen. He doesn't feel as pressured to appear independent and self-sufficient.

Element: Light
Purchased Powers:
- Multiple Physical Enhancements (Increased speed, balance/agility and reflexes, assassin-style, 4 points)
- True Immortality (4 points)
- Divine Bloodline (8 points)

- Borrowing the power of the Goddess of Order, he is able to exorcise medium-level spirits and demons, or seal high-level ones temporarily.
- Any magic or magical tools he uses against demons or evil-aligned entities are 150% more effective.

- Demons instinctively hate him and will be compelled to attack him on sight.
- Ability to project multiple hard-light weapons and control them telekinetically. These 'projection weapons' are sharp but fragile and will shatter upon impact, basically making them single-use.

- Suppression, a form of mental influence that dampens others' perception of him, effectively acting as a stealth boost and prevents other people from remembering his presence. Does not work on technology, but does work on magical things like scouting familiars.

Other Characters: Caesar Zeppeli ([personal profile] bolledivita), Pannacotta Fugo ([personal profile] infezione), Shio Takahata ([personal profile] reignitions)

Character Name: Josuke Higashikata
Canon: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon History: Canon history is here! (cw: child death, animal harm and death because gdi Araki and also there are rat Stand users in Part 4 and that's the focus of an arc Josuke's involved in) As with my previous characters from JJBA, Josuke has no reason to interact with Caesar or Fugo. Caesar is dead long before Josuke's even born (and Joseph wouldn't have told Josuke about the man anyway). Josuke and Fugo simply wouldn't know the other from Adam and have no reason to care about each other.

Canon Personality:
πŸ’Ž Emotionally open
πŸ’Ž Passionate
πŸ’Ž Outgoing and friendly!
πŸ’Ž Very empathetic, often gentle, dislikes seeing people in pain
πŸ’Ž Very kind--to the point that he'll go out of his way to heal strangers or even enemies in some circumstances
πŸ’Ž That being said, do not test him
πŸ’Ž Josuke's kindness has a limit and that limit is messing with his loved ones
πŸ’Ž Especially his mom. Holy shit.
πŸ’Ž Josuke is very capable of being brutal in the right circumstances
πŸ’Ž Mischievous and playful
πŸ’Ž Willing to bend or disregard rules and laws
πŸ’Ž Not above particular brands of being Petty--this is a guy who made friends with a shapeshifter and then immediately plotted to use this to cheat a guy he didn't like out of money in a dice game
πŸ’Ž Creative, especially with regard to using his Stand
πŸ’Ž Resourceful, and good at thinking on his feet in Situations
πŸ’Ž Insult his hair at your own risk. :)
πŸ’Ž More seriously on the above point, the berserk button surrounding his hairstyle has a more serious reason than you'd think--it's his way of honoring the guy who saved his life as a kid, and he doesn't take insult to that lightly.
πŸ’Ž Also I'm not kidding about it being a berserk button, there's a canon instance of it getting pushed that has him explicitly literally blind with rage

AU Name: N/A
AU Birthday: June 4th
Faction: POKEGO

AU History:
πŸ’Ž Much like canon, Josuke Higashikata was born to a single mother and an absentee father in a small town in northeast Japan, and raised by his mother and grandfather.
πŸ’Ž He had a pretty normal and happy childhood growing up!
πŸ’Ž When he was 15, however, Josuke met a foreign stranger who'd only just arrived in town recently, and needed some help getting acquainted with the town. Unbeknownst to Josuke, this foreigner was a vampire hunter who had tracked their quarry to Josuke's hometown.
πŸ’Ž What ensued from there was Josuke learning the hard way that the paranormal was very real and could in fact hurt him.
πŸ’Ž And more importantly, could hurt others.
πŸ’Ž See, Josuke had agreed to help the vampire hunter out, and kept helping out despite the hunter's insistence that he didn't need to, and Josuke'd gotten taken hostage by the vampire for his troubles. The vampire hunter came to rescue him, and hadn't gotten out of the ensuing fight unscathed. Between the situation of tracking a dangerous magical being throughout his hometown and seeing someone get injured in pursuit of that awakened something in Josuke--two things, actually. His past memories of tracking a serial killer in a small town called Morioh, and an ability from that past life--his Stand, Crazy Diamond, and its healing ability.
πŸ’Ž He used this ability to heal the vampire hunter, and the two of them parted on good terms, with the hunter telling Josuke to keep out of trouble.
πŸ’Ž Josuke did not keep out of trouble.
πŸ’Ž Within the next few months and with a brand new awareness of the world around him, life continued on for Josuke. He was more aware of the paranormal phenomena around him, and started looking into things he found that were unusual and/or troubling. Unbeknownst to Josuke, there were other incidents around the same time that drew attention of factions Josuke had no idea even existed--namely, The Black Order and POKEGO.
πŸ’Ž As it turns out, a gate to the Spirit Realm had opened in town. There were several yokai involved in all this, it was a mess, and there were at least three major incidents that largely did not intersect. But it was at least resolved on all ends!
πŸ’Ž When that entire mess concluded, Josuke found himself approached by a Black Order Guardian, who was quite interested in recruiting the teenager to the Order. Luckily for Josuke, however, a member of POKEGO had been in the area, close enough to overhear this, and chose to intervene, stating that he and the POKEGO member had been in talks recently and that Josuke was preparing to enter their POKEPUPS program.
πŸ’Ž Josuke, not having a goddamn clue what this new stranger was talking about but also having the ability to spot sketchy bullshit at twenty paces and the good sense to play along, agreed.
πŸ’Ž Once the Guardian had backed off, Josuke and the POKEGO member got to talking. Both out of gratitude for the intervention and to ensure that he'd be safe from the Black Order's potential continued interest, Josuke agreed to join POKEGO.
πŸ’Ž Josuke eventually graduated, both from high school and the POKEPUPS program without further incident, and took some time to himself (with the occasional field mission for POKEGO) to figure out what exactly he wanted to do with himself in terms of further education. During this time, he'd also worked with the organization as an aide, particularly for POKEPUPS.
πŸ’Ž Of course, right when he decided that eventually medical school was the way to go, the Willow Incident happened.
πŸ’Ž Dealing with that particular fallout ensued, but once Josuke considered it sufficiently wrapped up, he volunteered to go to Kaisou to help try to repair POKEGO's reputation. Plus, he's heard some good things about Kaisou U from one of his buddies who has a cousin in town. He can do his pre-med courses there.

AU Personality Differences:
πŸ’Ž The most significant difference between this Josuke and his canon counterpart is simply the fact that Josuke here is older, wiser, and a little more mature. He's going to take things seriously when the situation calls for it, he's a little more willing to put personal pettiness aside for the sake of being professional, and he's less likely to disregard rules and laws the way he did as a teenager. It's not off the table entirely, but there's stuff he can't get away with now as an adult and he has also has reason to keep his head down and avoid trouble.
πŸ’Ž This isn't as key a difference, but this version of Josuke doesn't have the attachment to the 'do as canon, due to only having the memory of the reason, instead of actually having that reason. He still wears it like that, and he'll get grouchy about insult to it, but it's not an all-consuming berserk button. Worst reaction will be a kneejerk internal reaction before he stops himself with a "wait, this is stupid".

Element: Water
Purchased Powers:
πŸ’Ž The ability to manifest his Stand, Crazy Diamond (4 seems reasonable for the Stand without its powers, I think? if I'm off, just lmk!)
πŸ’Ž Half of Crazy Diamond's signature ability, and the most obvious application of it: using the Stand's ability to restore or revert an organism to a previous state through touch in order to heal injuries. It can be used to reattach limbs or heal what would be mortal injuries if the wounded isn't already dead when Josuke gets to them. That being said, this isn't without limitations-- this power cannot cure illnesses (this does not register to the Stand's power as being "damaged"), cannot revive the dead, and cannot be used on Josuke himself. (4 points)
πŸ’Ž The other half of Crazy Diamond's signature ability--the ability to restore or revert an object to a previous state through touch. This is often used to repair objects, but could also be used to revert a cooked dish to its base ingredients, or an object to its base components (like a wooden table into the wood it was built with). Worth noting, however, is the main limitation on this power-- it cannot be used on anything Josuke might consider part of his own 'self' at the time. (4 points?)
πŸ’Ž Withstand temperatures as cold as 0F (-18*C) without a coat. (2 points)
Starting Pokemon: Quaxly! Her name is Pearl and he adores her.
onahairtrigger: (πŸ’Ž thirteen.)
