THIS IS AN OLD POST. IF YOU WISH TO SEE THE CURRENT APP PAGE, PLEASE GO HERE.

Okay so application is a very strong word and not entirely accurate, but it's a term we all know so bear with me. This is the page where you officially submit your character information for the game! Apps will not really be judged on its contents but more making sure everything fits into the setting of the game. If you want more information on the setting, please check out the FAQ!

To see the previous app page, you can find it here.

How do I join the game?
This app page is currently open! Apps can be submitted by players at anytime. Apps are reviewed by the mod on the first and third weekend of the month, ending at 6pm EST on Sundays (so if you submit an app at 9pm on Sunday it won't get read until the following relevant weekend). Please check the calendar to see when apps will be processed next.

To join the game, you'll require an invite from another player. Players can invite up to 2 people per month. To invite someone, have the person apping list the name of the person inviting them, and then the inviter should comment to their app confirming the invite. Apps that do not have a invitation confirmation will not be looked at by the mods. If a confirmation does not come within two app processing weekends of the app's submission, it'll be automatically rejected.

A new player must be in the game one full month from their app acceptance date before they can invite another player (meaning if their app was approved on September 18th, they can invite people starting October 18th). This is so the new player has a chance to get acclimated to the game and community enough to assist any friends they later invite to the game.

Players who were in the game but who dropped/were swept will not need an invite to rejoin the game for up to one month after their drop date. After that month, they will require an invite to rejoin.

Once you submit your app, you'll get a welcome comment confirming that everything is a-okay. Sometimes revisions will be requested if there is a need to fix with power purchases or possessions.

Is there a player/cast cap?
There are a couple caps! The first cap ia an overall player cap. Kaisou allows a total of 75 players. Should we ever reach cap, apps will close until openings become available.

The second cap is on the number of players with an OU (original universe) character. To make sure OU characters do not dominate the game, there is a current limit of 35 OU players. At the start of each month, we will make sure there are at least 2 OU player slots open so new players get a chance to app an OU. Finally, to keep one cast from dominating the limited OU slots, there is an OU cast cap of 6 OU characters per cast. There's no cap on AUs from the canon at this time, just OUs!

PLAYER SLOTS: 33/75 filled.
OU PLAYER SLOTS: 14/35 filled.

Casts near or at Cap:
Final Fantasy XIV - 4/6, NEAR CAP

What kind of characters do you allow?
Most things! Canon characters, Original characters, CRAU, AU characters - the list goes on. Double characters are also allowed so long as the doubles are notably different from one another (examples: MCU Peter Parker and Into the Spider-verse Peter Parker would be fine as they are two clearly different interpretations of the character. Alternatively, a canon version of a character and an AU version of the same character would be fine as long as the AU causes a notable difference in the character). Customizable protagonists and characters from canons with different story routes are allowed, and any characters with differing story routes would be considered AUs from one another.

The only requirement for a character is that they do require a consistent canon history. This is because many of the plot events and mechanics deal with memories and connections to their previous life (or current life if an OU). If you wish to app a mascot character that doesn't have a specific canon background (a vocalid, clippy, the trix rabbit, etc) - you are welcome to write an OC that's inspired by the character with a clear established background to work from. Characters who have multiple canon iterations (like Link from Legend of Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog) will need to pick a single iteration to pull their canon background from. Characters must also have been properly introduced (not just a quick cameo) in their canon for at least one month at the time of apping.

How many characters can I play at a time?
You can play up to four active characters at a time! Only two of these characters are allowed to be Original Universe and there is an overall OU player cap as mentioned above. As of September 2023, you may only play 2 characters from the same canon.

How frequently can I submit an app?
There is no time restraint on the first two characters you app. If you join the game with the intent of playing two characters, you can app them both immediately or wait it out! However after you app your second character, you will require to wait one month between each new character app (so if you app your second character on March 2nd, you will need to wait until April 2nd to app a third character). This wait time applies even if you drop a character.

What type of characters can I play in this setting?
At this time, brand new players have the option of choosing between Normal AU, Paranormal AU, and Original Universe. Players who have been in the game at least 3 months also get the option of apping characters from the Black Order or POKEGO factions. Details for each category are below:

Normal Modern AUs
Normals AU are exactly what it says on the tin: they're normal people. These characters have lived entirely normal lives on modern day Earth. Up until the day they joined the Libra app (aka when they join the game), they've been completely oblivious to anything strange about the world. Even if something paranormal-related did happen to them, their memories remember it as a more mundane event (for example if they got attacked by a monster, they'll remember it as a dog attack) - and it's only once they join the app may they remember how those events occurred. For the most part, their AU backstory should consist of things that could reasonably happen in a modern day Earth setting.

Upon acceptance, Normal AUs will be allowed to pick two free regains (canon regain or an elemental power) that can be worth up to 3 points each. These regains will ICly come into effect after they join the game.

Paranormal Modern AUs
Paranormal AU characters are characters who also grew up in modern day Earth, but have experienced supernatural occurrences throughout their lives. Their experiences with the supernatural can vary wildly as long as it fits into the setting of Kaisou. Maybe they've been raised by a family aware of the supernatural, or they started as normal people and ended up crossing paths with the paranormal at some point in their lives. They may even be involved with a player-run faction (aka any faction that's not Zodiac, Black Order or POKEGO), or a new faction that you made up yourself!

These characters will get 6 extra points to be spent on elemental powers (aka Kaisou original powers) they obtained during their AU backstory. These points cannot be used for canon regains (though you are welcomed to purchase elemental powers that are similar to their canon powers, or pick something entirely new!). These points can be used for monster traits, but you need to include some explanation for why they are a monster (were they cursed? An experiment? Are their parent a monsterfucker?) and they will need to be at least half-human.

Paranormal characters can also be possessed. You can read more information about on the possesion info page.

Original Universe
Original Universe characters hail from their original world and find themselves arriving into this world through the Spirit Realm. They will not lose any memories of their canon lives, and are allowed to have any items that they could reasonably carry on their persons upon arrival without any enchantments (in other words, no cheating with a mary poppins bag). If they were carrying a magical bag, the bag will split open in the Spirit Realm and all the contents will come spilling out on the ground, forcing your character to grab only what they can carry.

Power wise, OUs can do one of the following options for their retained options. Feel free to consult the regain page for clarity on the point values.
  • 3 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 1-point regain (very low level power)
  • 2 abilities that have the power equivalent of a 2-point regain (medium level power)
  • 1 ability that has the power equivalent of a 3-point regain (advanced level power)

Retained abilities can apply to any magical items they have with them EXCEPT for anything that'd increase their inventory or would be considered otherwise gamebreaking. Any other abilities or items that don't have their powers retained will be completely depowered and will require regain points to gain back.

Black Order/POKEGO AU
PLEASE NOTE: Due to this character type requiring a thorough understanding of the game setting, this option is only available for players who have been in Kaisou for at least 3 months

As of April 2023, players are limited to only have ONE character from each faction at a time (meaning you can have one Black Order member and one POKEGO character, but not more than one in each faction)
.

Black Order/POKEGO characters are AU characters who started either as Normal or Paranormal AU characters. However, unlike the other AU types who only begin regaining canon memories once they join the game, these characters began remembering their past lives and regaining canon abilities at an earlier point in their life - usually after a traumatic or high stress incident. Sometime shortly after they began remembering their past lives, they were approached by one of two factions:

THE BLACK ORDER: A secretive group devoted to protecting and preserving the Spirit Realm, particularly any realms that are considered sacred, by dispatching agents known as "Guardians" to manage supernatural incidents of note. While it varies from member to member, the Black Order aren't exactly known for being a chill group. Some Guardians join willingly while others were "strongly persuaded" to join. While you don't need to be religious to be part of the Black Order nor does it adhere to a particular religion, it is said to be funded by numerous religious denominations around the world. Thanks to that, Black Order Guardians will enjoy free housing (within reason, no mansions) and a comfortable salary to live on - though some may get a daytime job/go to school to keep up a persona. The Black Order itself is run by a mysterious council of leaders, who give orders to their Guardians to fulfill. Thanks to the constant unusual activity in Kaisou, they have decided to send members to Kaisou and join the app in order to investigate what's going on.

POKEGO: A group devoted to the research and understanding of the Spirit Realm. All in all, they tend to be less hardcore than the Black Order and all members join willingly, though sometimes it's by means as a way to avoid joining the Black Order. POKEGO is less structured than the Black Order, with the group actually being made up of several different cohorts that focus on different areas of study related to the Spirit Realm (such as flora, fauna, gate locations, gods, etc etc). For a long time they held a positive reputation in paranormal circles, but that recently took a serious hit thanks to Professor Willow and his faction's deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of sponsors (including Zodiac) have pulled out and funding has really dried up. This means POKEGO researchers will have to find their own housing and find ways to make ends meet (in other words, you're broke). These days, the remaining members of POKEGO are working towards rebuilding their organization and repairing the bridges that have been burned.

Characters apped will either be in the role of Black Order Guardian or POKEGO Researcher that's been sent to Kaisou to help investigate the situation, and will join the Libra app in the spirit of cooperation with Zodiac (and to keep an eye on everyone). It's up to you if the character had already lived in Kaisou for some time, or is completely new in town. While both of these groups are made up of people who remember their past lives, before the events of Kaisou it was well understood among these group that regaining past memories was an extremely rare occurrence (like 1 in a few million rare), that memories of their past lives were to be kept hush-hush from outsiders - and anyone who refused to comply with the rules would have their past memories erased and powers sealed. So some may not be entirely sure how to feel about these Zodiac app users that have a lot less rules to follow. Typically POKEGO/Black Order characters should be at least 16 years of age. If you wish to app a younger one, they will be considered a trainee and special accommodations will need to be made (aka you need to talk to the mod about it).

Due to their special situations, Black Order/POKEGO characters can start with 16 regain points for their pre-purchased powers (versus the 6 that paranormal AU get). These regain points can be used for both Kaisou elemental powers AND canon regains. Black Order/POKEGO characters may also be possessed, which works the same way as Paranormal AUs.

As of April 2023, POKEGO characters will be allowed 1 free pokemon that's up to horse size (and isn't a legendary) upon apping. This Pokemon will be completely depowered, but for 1 point you can unlock up to 4 of the abilities that are available for the Pokemon at Level 1 in the games. Any abilities beyond that would cost the same rates as if those abilities were on a player character. Additional pokemon would cost the same rate as a magical animal companion (aka based on size and they'd start with their level 1 abilities).

FINALLY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THEIR FACTION'S REPUTATION, BLACK ORDER AND POKEGO CHARACTERS (ESPECIALLY POKEGO) ARE LIKELY TO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF NEGATIVE CR FROM OTHER CHARACTERS EARLY ON. Please be prepared to deal with this should you choose to app from these factions. Even if your character is a nice person, they will likely have to work extra hard to gain the trust of those around them.

Character Name: Shadow Labrys
Canon: Persona 4 Arena & Ultimax
Canon History:
Shadow Labrys' wiki page
Labrys' wiki page
Hinokagutsuchi (aka the Malevolent Entity)'s wiki page

Canon Personality:
♉︎ Violent) To say that Shadow Labrys likes hitting things is an understatement. She relishes in her power and her ability to destroy things. She feels utter glee and excitement at the prospect of being able to break something (or someone) and throws 100% of herself into a fight.

♉︎ Blunt) She lacks almost any sort of filter. If something is pissing her off, she'll say what it is. However, this is almost exclusively related to the raging bull of destruction persona she shows off to others. Which ties into another trait of hers...

♉︎ Terrible with Positive Emotions) Shadow Labrys might have grown as a person and developed a fully-fledged ego, but she's very much the embodiment of "old habits die hard." She was born from Labrys' trauma and anger, manipulated by the Malevolent Entity, and (initially) rejected by her original self. Violence, hatred, anger, and a lust for power and destruction are embedded deep in her soul. It's what she knows and what she's comfortable with. However, she's more than that now and that bugs her. She knows Labrys cares about her friends (and she herself possibly cares about them too, to some extension. Or, at the very least, respects them for kicking her ass) and she cares about Labrys, though she wouldn't admit it. And so when they try to stop her from killing Sho, she puts her weapon down (after destroying the remote that shut Labrys down) and just relinquishes control of their body back over to Labrys.

♉︎ Loves Freedom and Hates Authority) Freedom is a big part of both Labrys and Shadow Labrys. Labrys wanted it and Shadow Labrys objectively has it. She is the master of the realm in Persona 4 Arena that the story takes place in (save for the Malevolent Entity) and she gleefully does whatever the hell she wants right up until Labrys is finally able to accept her. Asterius' design, which is a facet of her, has chains that don't actually seem to be attached to much of anything and upon being released in Ultimax, she relished her newfound freedom and expressed a very aggressive dislike of Sho trying to tell her what to do. She'd much rather just kill him and be done with it than follow her orders even if it'd lead to more destruction.

AU Name: Cassandra Yamada
AU Age: 21
AU Birthday: 4/20
AU History: Cassandra was born to a Japanese father and an Greek-American mother. Her mom was a big shot corporate worker in Brooklyn. Her father was a humble farmer in the country tilling the land that had been in his family for generations. The two met while Cassandra's mom was on a vacation to Japan and their relationship blossomed from there. They had two kids; Cassandra and her sister.

Both were no stranger to hard work, but Cassandra was always the brawn to her sister's brain. She enjoyed doing manual labor around the farm and participating in sports (especially baseball). But she always had a temper that tended to get her into trouble, especially when she often struggled to fit in due to her abrasive nature and mixed heritage. Going to America on trips to see her extended family wasn't much different. No matter where she went, she never seemed to fit in anywhere. The only place she ever felt that she could be herself was on her family's farm.

Eventually, though, things took a sharp turn. Early on in middle school she got into her first fight, though it would be far from her last. Due to her love of sports and her time spent working on the farm, Cassandra had become quite strong. Strong enough to make her realize she could take matters into her own hands. She believed strength gave her freedom and she would use that freedom to finally make a place where she could fit in. It wasn't long before she was labelled a delinquent, but it was a title she fully embraced.

By the time she had reached high school, she had gotten quite the reputation for herself. Many people hated her guts but there were also those who looked up to her. An adrenaline junkie, Cassandra was only interested in fighting people who were worth her time (i.e. people who could put up a fight), which meant a lot of bullies. So it's no surprise that plenty of the bullied ended up liking her quite a bit. Suffice to say she was thoroughly confused and weirded out by the positive attention, but over time she grew accustomed to it. Eventually she had her own group of friends who were ride or die, which ended up becoming quite literal once she got her motorcycle license. She ended up starting her own biker gang, which quickly grew in size as it offered a home to many people who felt as though they didn't fit in. And this was also around the same time as Cassandra finding out about her powers.

Something was causing various livestock to go missing around the farm and Cassandra decided to look into it. Turns out that her family farm is pretty close to a spirit vein, which has been drawing unwanted spirit attention. Fast forward to now and not much has changed. She managed to graduate high school despite delinquency and now works odd jobs and around the farm to make money, as well as chasing out opposing biker gangs and fighting monsters. Heard through the grapevine that weird stuff was happening in Kaisou and decided to head over there and check it out for herself.

AU Personality Differences: The main difference between Cassandra and Shadow Labry is that Cassandra isn't working backwards on the whole "being a person" thing. Shadow Labrys was a fragmented being born of her original's self's negative emotions before coming into her own. Meanwhile Cassandra is just like. A person. She has a lot of the abrasiveness that Shadow Labrys possessed but without the inhuman mindset to temper it into a destructive force of blind rage. She has a sense of right and wrong, though her morality is a bit wonky. She generally doesn't mess with innocent people because they aren't worth her time (read: good in a fight) but if it's her or them she won't be too broken up about hurting them. A lot of her worse traits are reigned in by simply not wanting to deal with consequences. She still loves her family (though she has a tough time admitting it) and generally likes her freedom. Though monsters and the like that invade her home get the full brunt of her strength. Nobody can see them, after all.

Player Name: Bookie

Other Characters: G'raha Tia

Character Name: Lady Pansy Pomeranian
Canon: OU
Canon Point: Roughly where the campaign she's NPCing in is right now
Age: 76
Birthday: March 3rd
History:
Pansy is from the world of Pugmire, which is more or less a simplified DnD with dogs and cats. Long ago, cats and dogs and such were as we know them now, but then the Age of Man ended for forgotten reasons- did the all die, did they go to space??? Who knows. In the meantime, many animals evolved to be upright, intelligent, and Large. seriously they are the size of humans now. The different races have different ideas about the days of old, with dogs worshipping Men as gods, more or less, and have 'The Church of Man' and its tenants as a pillar of their civilizations.

Pansy was born into an upper class family of Pugmire, and though she was taught all the refined manners a proper lady should, she was also a fight. She was trained as a Guardian (the tank class), her weapon of choice being a battleaxe, and proved herself indomitable on the battlefield, fighting in the War of Cats and Dogs. During a take of leave from injury, she met her husband Percival, a historian who was taking notes from soliders and their time on the front and who loved digging into the mysteries Man left behind.

When the war was over, Pansy turned to doing all she could with her noble position to strength ties with the Cats and their newfound peace. She started a joint operation between Pugmire and the Monarchies of Mau, where adventuring cats and dogs would work together on ventures. Though she's now older and far past her prime, she's still fit enough to fight in a pinch, though she's taken up knitting to pass the time as well.

Personality: Pansy is softspoken and kind, and tends to come off as very sweet, but that doesn't mean she isn't a powerhouse in either her strength or personality. She knows what she wants and she doesn't take no for an answer, whether that's making you a hat or steering you towards adventuring in the 'right' path. She's well meaning, certainly, but there are definite instances where she thinks she knows best, and infuriatingly, she's often right. She's not terribly excitable and tends to keep a cool head regardless of how perilous her situation is, or how outlandish it might seem.

While she was a good fighter and took pride in defending her kingdom, there is a strong part of her that wishes everyone would Just Get Along Already, Damnit, which is part of what motivates her venture into uniting cats and dogs. There is a type of demon called the Unseen that plagues their lands, and is possibly responsible for the vanishing of Men, and she believes that that should be everyone's priority, and petty squabbling only gets in the way, though she knows said squabbling has to be addressed first.

Though she knows the Church's tenants and follows them, she would not consider herself very religious; she knows little enough about history except through her husband, and tends to believe that Men likely thought of dogs as friends and companions more than servants, and while she tries to do right by their memory, she whole-heartedly believes that doing their best to help their fellow dogs/cats is the way to do it.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Probably like riiiight at the beginning of the November plot. She'll be fine.
Items: Her little backpack, which contains her knitting and her battleaxe.
Retained Abilities: Fighting style: Great Weapon (basically can reroll 1s or 2s when attacking), and Puppy Dog Eyes (bonus to charisma checks)

Character Name: Ardyn Lucis Caelum/'Ardyn Izunia'
Canon: Final Fantasy 15
Canon History: wiki link, there's literally no way to do this that isn't a novel

Canon Personality: The initial and vital distinction to make before describing Ardyn in any detail is that he is a person whose development can be split into three sections: his past as a healer, his ingame presence as a villain, and the midpoint in between displayed in his own DLC episode.

Healer: In his past as a relatively normal human, Ardyn was intensely selfless to the point of self-destruction. Tasked by the gods with the healing of the Starscourge through divine magic, he accepted his responsibility without question and seemed to take a small amount of pride in carrying out the will of the gods. Taking his role incredibly seriously, he rarely smiled or did much else but act stoic and professional in front of the people he worked to help. Implied but only seen in the novel is a falling-out with his own younger brother over a difference of opinion in how to save the world from the plague, demonstrating that Ardyn took the matter seriously enough to leave both home and his only apparent family entirely to continue his work. More to the point on the 'self-destructive' front; his task to heal the Starscourge was actively causing him agonizing pain and deteriorating his body, but he clearly prioritized the people in need of salvation over his own life with no hesitation or question.

...What I'm saying is he's an incredibly thinly veiled messianic archetype and the only way the comparison would be less subtle would be if his birthday were on Christmas. It's Walpurgisnacht, which isn't much better.

Adagium: In being rejected by the gods, executed by his brother, and sealed away for two millennia, to say Ardyn's mental state took a hit would be an understatement. In his confinement he retreated into his own head, living in his own hallucinations of the past as resentment and hate fueled by the Starscourge built within him. Despite this, when released by Verstael his prevailing emotion seems to be apathy. He's largely indifferent to Verstael, the world, and everyone in it--briefly thinking that just being left alone in Angelgard would have been preferable. While the resentment fostered in his imprisonment is still present, it is also directionless; with Somnus dead, Ardyn finds little point in revenge. He spends several months in Niflheim sleeping; ostensibly as recovery, but it's equally likely he simply felt he had nothing better to do. While he is a barely-human passing avatar of malice and hatred, enough of his original human self remains that though he resents his own mistakes in working so hard to accomplish basically nothing, he won't simply destroy everything indiscriminately in vengeance. At this stage he's very tired and very mentally unwell--he's prone to nightmares and, when under significant stress, outright dissociation and waking hallucinations (both auditory and visual) centering around both Somnus and Aera alike. Ultimately, at that point he wasn't even an open threat at all--while he did in fact kill several of the Crownsguard on the island, it was done in self-defense and also one such hallucination implied a genuine sense of guilt; a spectral version of Somnus taunting Ardyn over having killed an innocent man and Ardyn claiming 'my calling is to save lives, not take them'.

Ardyn Izunia: The tipping point of finally shattering a fractured grasp on sanity lies with Verstael convincing Ardyn to daemonify Ifrit; pushed into seeking power he swears vengeance on the line of Lucis and in sublimating a god Ardyn also sees fragments of memories implying it was he and not Somnus that was chosen. That, specifically, is the point that causes him to utterly snap and decide to take his vengeance on gods, kings, and everything else on the planet. In the years that followed he killed people indiscriminately in order to steal their memories and learn more about the world, as well as contribute to creating Niflheim's magitek and highly unethical cloned daemon army. In his DLC episode preceding the game itself, he proves to be a force even Niflheim can't hope to actually control; he goes rogue on an already violent invasion mission, seeking to kill the then-reigning king and only being stopped by the intervention of both his spectral younger brother as well as Bahamut himself, learning of the prophecy that names Ardyn as nothing but an agent of darkness whose purpose is to suffer as an immortal plague until the true Chosen King can arise and kill him. Depending on player choice, Ardyn either completely gives up and accepts this as an inevitability, or rages against the draconic deity and is summarily harshly punished for the hint of rebellion. (It isn't clearly stated ingame which option is game canon, but the second is explicitly canon to the light novel/alternate timeline.)

Which leads into his role in the game itself: a manipulative chessmaster who orchestrates the fall of both Lucis and Niflheim, kills several named characters either directly or by proxy, and spreads the Starscourge to the point of creating a ten-year-long night over the planet only ended with Noctis defeating Ardyn and sacrificing himself to bring back the light. He is constantly bitter to the point of vicious mockery to everyone around him, ally and enemy alike. His bitterness at having been cast out is projected clearly on those who had nothing to do with it--specifically Noctis more than anyone, being Somnus' identical-looking descendant. Ultimately, it may all just be a decades long lashing out in anger and vengeance, and once the prophesized end does come about Ardyn seems content with the idea. After a fierce final battle in the destroyed streets of the crown city he accepts his defeat quietly, and is eradicated from all existence with little more than a bow to the true Chosen King who saved the world as neither brother could.

AU Name: Same as canon; he's probably gone by a lot of names, but settled on 'Ardyn Izunia' while with the Black Order.
AU Age: 2000+ (physically 33)
AU Birthday: April 30th
Faction: Black Order

AU History:
-Firstborn son of a politician in the Roman empire circa the first century, Ardyn Lucis Caelum was known as a wise and charitable man. Charming, very focused upon matters of justice and fairness, and with a mind to enter into politics himself for the betterment of the people around them, he was never one to put himself or his ambition first. Unlike his younger brother, who sought wealth and power for their own sake. As with quite a lot of politicians of the time, said father was of course assassinated by his second son over a matter of inheritance, with Ardyn swiftly following when he discovered his brother standing over their father holding a knife.
-Utterly shattered by a betrayal he had never suspected or anticipated, on the brink of death the prevailing emotion he felt turned from sorrow to rage; demanding to understand why his own blood hated him so, cursing him in turn for so ruthlessly destroying all in his path, and feeling a small spark of vengeance spring to life at the very end of Ardyn's own life. At which point a devil came to him from the Spirit Realm and offered a chance to live again; to right the wrongs of the world by whatever means necessary. Accepting the contract, Ardyn awoke in exhaustion to a home reduced to bloodied rubble in the wake of his own demon mode rampaging briefly.
-[cw: suicide] Presumed dead along with the rest of his family, Ardyn quickly left the city and indeed the country in short order, hiding among shadows and constantly shapechanging with the powers he found his nameless devil had granted him. Finding himself deeply conflicted between his innate compassion and the contracted devil screaming revenge, not long afterwards the memories began to surface in tiny shreds; memories of a creature slaying humans indiscriminately, sublimating them body and soul. Horrified by the glimpses of a life that was and wasn't his own, Ardyn sought to put an end to himself...only to find he couldn't. In his impulsive and angry decision to accept a chance to live again, he had been made an immortal creature of shadow exactly like the monster now in his memories.
-With no choice but to accept that fate, he took to wandering; rarely staying in any one settlement or even country for too long, the world gradually changed around him...and yet it didn't. No matter where he went, the pervasive nature of humanity followed. Injustices, cruelties, conflicts, and betrayals were all intrinsic to human nature, and the more he witnessed the more he felt the need to make sure justice was done. Oftentimes where he went, particularly cruel or disliked individuals simply 'disappeared' only to turn up as a corpse covered in bloody claw marks or stab wounds. Except when it wasn't the particularly cruel or disliked and instead just the mildly assholish. Or someone who just looked at him wrong when the bloodier memories began to creep back up again.
-Needless to say, as the ages passed and Ardyn adapted time and again to different places and eras the human that he used to be faded, and he largely forgot why he even cared in the first place. There certainly didn't seem to be much reason to, when humankind was seen to have nothing worth caring about in the first place and his memories painted him as some kind of murderous apocalyptic monster anyway. What good was a world that only ever let one down?
-At some point (likely a number of decades ago) he encountered the Black Order somewhere in Europe, and while letting himself be sealed probably would have been sensible to him in the past he instead signed on readily and with very little hesitation. In his twisted logic, maybe guarding the Spirit Realm however necessary felt like something justified, or maybe it was just that he wanted an excuse to continue on as he already had been doing. Maybe even a warped combination of both.
-Whatever the reason, Ardyn Izunia eventually became the Guardian no one actually wanted to see dispatched--the kind that handled problems needing handling. His abilities to shapeshift and travel between shadows made him an ideal assassin, and his complete lack of hesitation in that regard made him terrifyingly efficient. Which isn't to say that every assignment he's sent on ends in bloodshed, but he's definitely the solver of (and sometimes causer of) the Order's more persistent headaches. Hence why he's getting assigned to this complete mess. For the sake of...well, November, I'd like to assume he's been here since late October shapeshifted and under the radar, if that's possible?

AU Personality Differences: The major difference is that canon Ardyn's incredible anger management issues are a perfect storm of eternity in solitary confinement/a rebellious god's memories in his head/knowing he's fated to be a literal dictionary-definition scapegoat. Because of that, he's far more indiscriminate and wide-ranging in the damage he cheerfully causes, knowing absolutely nothing he does matters on a cosmic scale (because that's what prophecy does!) so he can in fact destroy and kill whatever he likes as long as it isn't Noctis. AU!Ardyn, however, is moderately narrower in his approach and wider in his experiences: he believes having traveled the world gives him perspective, and in the words of a different antagonist: 'there are no innocents'. Would he kill indiscriminately, probably not. Does he believe that the people the Order tasks its Guardians with handling probably did something to deserve it in a karmic sense? Absolutely. Not only does he lack any ability to conceptualize most people as innately good, he believes for a fact that he certainly isn't--so far his past life memories are only of himself as a full-on murderous scourge on the planet, which colors the issue considerably.

Other Characters: Dante, Eizen, Xiao.

Character Name: Yae Miko.
Canon: Paranormal AU.
Canon History: Bam.

Canon Personality:
ENGIMATIC & SECRETIVE; As the Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, Yae Miko has a particular air about her. A mysteriousness that many struggle to understand let alone pierce. It is by design, of course, being one of the few remaining Kitsune in Inazuma, and being someone who enjoys watching others squirm. There are many things that Yae Miko knows that others do not, many things that she holds to her chest until the right moment or until the day she finally joins all those who have passed on before her. That aside Yae Miko enjoys putting on that air of mysteriousness, as it tends to attract the most interesting people.

BLUNT & CYNICAL; To outsiders and even her close friends, Yae Miko is incredibly blunt. She does not mince words, nor does she go looking for the kinder way to say things, she is simply blunt even if her words come off as cruel. She is like this even with her dear friend and master, Ei; the Electro Archon and leader of all Inazuma. She also has a rather cynical side to her, something that she doesn't bother softening for the sake of others.

MISCHEIVOUS & CUNNING & MANIPULATIVE; As a Kistune, Miko is incredibly mischievous in practically everything she does. Including her duties as Guuji and owner of the Yae Publishing House. She couples her mischievous streak with an incredible ability to manipulate and read other people. She has spent many long years around humans and has come to know exactly what strings to pluck to get what she wants. However, she is not cruel, only ever playing tricks and pranks that end up incredibly elaborate and long-winded affairs towards rather simple ends. Admittedly she does this out of sheer enjoyment and the fact she holds a fondness for making others squirm.

CARING; Despite all this Miko is far more caring than she likes to lead on. She aided the Traveller in breaking the Raiden Shogun from her eternal solitude more out of concern for her dear friend than the benefit of the country as a whole. She holds an immense amount of fondness for the Traveller despite tricking them into little things here and there. There is a loneliness in Miko that slips out a little during the Hyakkiyakou, where she helped the thousands of youkai souls pass on safely. It isn't often that she allows this side of herself to be seen, but it is still there deep under the surface.

AU Name: Hinoki Miko, commonly still known as Yae Miko.
AU Age: 1600+ (born early 5th century)
AU Birthday: June 27th

AU History:
• Once upon a time (specifically 5th Japan) there was a young girl, a shrine maiden, content in her life and her duties around the shrine. However such joyous days are never destined to last forever and war swept over the girl's home, and her family, and left her wounded in the crumbling ruins of the place she once lived. It was this tragedy that awoke the girl to her true nature as a kitsune and Yae Miko opened her eyes once again.

• For many long years Miko wandered the countryside, looking for a new home, all the while doing as kitsune are known to do; aiding those who were kind, and playing nasty tricks on those who were not. She found herself enamored by humans and loved listening to the stories they would tell of monsters, of battles, of loves won and lost. She began to collect them, writing them down and holding them close even as the people who told them withered and died.

• That was her life until thirty years ago when Yae found herself the unfortunate victim of a series of poor decisions (walking a forest at night, one known to be perused by hunters) that left her injured. Tired and bleeding out Yae searched for aid, stumbling into the first yard she found. Uncertain whether or not those inside would even consider aiding her, Yae chose to summon up an illusion of an injured fox to draw attention to herself. It was a lovely man who came to her rescue, believing there to be a fox outside who needed aid. To his surprise, she was not a fox at all but a woman, regardless he dressed her wound and provided her food. As thanks for her aid, Yae decided to stay with this man and his family. After all, they were kind, and interesting, and made the most wonderful foods including her favorite dish Fukuuchi Udon.

• Thus did Hinoki Miko ingrain herself into the family as a sister they never truly asked for but adore all the same. She aided them over the years with the supernatural creatures that would find their way onto the estate, even ensuring that those unwelcomed within their borders were well enough away. All the while Miko collected more stories and began to properly put to paper those she had been carrying for all these years. She wanted to share them with the world, wanted to delight and shock readers as she had been when they were first told to her.

• After years of hard work and some clever tricks, the Yae Publishing House was established in Japan forcing Miko to be away from the estate for long stretches of time as she put the final pieces in place. It is for this very reason that she was far from the estate the terrible night that a vampire wormed its way through the protective barrier. Perhaps if she had been things would have been different, the girls would not have suffered as they did nor would have Ayato, but she had been away and only found out about the attack much later.

• For the last seven years Miko has danced between managing Yae Publishing House (something she quickly hired someone else to do as it grew in popularity, butting in every so often to put in her two cents) and aiding the Hinoki family in rebuilding after the death of the children's father and the sudden disappearance of the oldest son. The reason she will be coming to Kaisou is twofold, the public excuse will be establishing a branch of the Yae Publishing House here in Kaisou, but the truth of the matter will be that she is in search of Ayato after the estate received a letter she discovered originated from the city.

AU Personality Differences: There isn't much difference between Miko's canon personality and this one, although she is a little openly kinder and patient with others.

Other Characters: Shadow Labrys

Character Name: Valvatorez
Canon: Disgaea 4
Canon Point: Post mainline story
Age: 2542
Birthday: October 4th is his canon birthday.
History: Valvatorez's wiki page.
Personality:

- Proud & Noble) A remnant of his tyrant days, Valvatorez takes pride in everything he does despite having been reduced to the lowliest position in the Netherworlds: Prinny Instructor. He talks constantly about the things that interest him (usually sardines) and while he doesn't take down the corrupternment to rule it, he does see it as having lost its way (along with most of the Netherworld) and thus in need of serious re-education. He speaks with a certain air to him and has a strict code of honor that he refuses to break.

- Perfectionist) Valvatorez pours over a hundred and ten percent of himself into everything he does and he expects others to do the same and have a similar sense of pride for their work. Prinnies, for example, must abide by all the rules and regulations during their service and that includes the most basic rule of all: Prinny Rule Number One (You shall always include the word "dood" in every line you say.) Any prinny caught breaking this rule in Valvatorez's presence will be subject to an immediate reduction back to level one and a complete reeducation and retraining from the bottom up. And that isn't even taking into account the time he broke into the Information Bureau because he noticed one of their articles had a typo in it.

- Loyal & Trustworthy) Valvatorez will never, ever, under ANY circumstances break a promise. He is also fiercely loyal to those he considers comrades and will do his best to ensure their goals are met and they can become the best versions of themselves.

- Gullible and Naive) So Val can be...a bit of an idiot, honestly. He tends to be very trusting and generally believes what people tell him unless it's something he already knows is false. And even then, it's hit or miss. Like when Fuka believed everything happening was all a dream, Val actually bought into that for a moment.

- Emotionally Intelligent for Everyone but Himself) When it comes to his comrades, prinnies, and pretty much everyone else? Valvatorez can whip up a shounen speech that can kick anyone's ass into high gear. However, he tends to keep his feelings about certain things to himself. Anything that's potentially uncomfortable or he's unsure how to process usually gets ignored or swept under the rug. For example, when Fenrich calls him out for being much weaker than his tyrant days due to a promise he made 400 years ago, Valvatorez just says "let's not talk about that" and quickly changes the subject. Even after all these years, Valvatorez clearly struggles to make himself truly vulnerable on an emotional level.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Early November and I'm good with whatever you guys come up with for the labyrinth, tbh.
Items: Basically just whatever he's wearing and a rapier.
Retained Abilities: Skin (2 points; enhanced durability) and Improved Physical Abilities (2 points; strength). Basically demons in Disgaea are incredibly strong and durable so I found these fitting. These changes still leave him with a long ways to go from his full (albeit depowered) strength, however.

Character Name: Wriothesley
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon Point: 4.2 Story End
Age: 33
Birthday: November 23
History: Here.

Personality:

Learn to Survive - No Matter The Conditions.
Wriothesley has spent over half his life in a place known as the Fortress of Meriopede--an underground facility that functioned as a prison, it is a place that raised him to the person he is today. When he was young, it was a harsh and demanding environment, which made him need to learn what it meant to only have oneself to rely on. He quickly caught on how to keep himself safe, to protect what little he had on him in such a harsh environment, and even how to excel in a place that was only ever against him. Everyone started as equals in the fortress, money and status that one held aboveground becomes nothing once your life begins there, and Wriothesley came to understand its rules quickly and effectively.

Commanding Presence - The Duke of Meriopede.
The years have since doubled or more since Wriothesley arrived in the fortress--and his time had not gone to waste. In the days and years he spent in the Fortress, Wriothesley trained himself to be an adept fighter--adopting the style of a boxer to make money in order to make his days in prison easier. He quickly became a terrifyingly good fighter--to a point where he soon accumulated more wealth than anyone else in the fortress. Upon being cheated out of his fairly earned gains, a challenge to the administrator for to overthrow his unfair garnishing of Wriothesley's earnt wage was sent out; resulting in the administrator fleeing the fortress instead of facing him in combat. Since then, the people of Meriopede have held a sort of reverence for his strength, many often becoming nervous in Wriothesley's presence due to the sheer amount of strength he coule back up behind a somewhat aloof demeanor. As the Duke of Meriopede, he now holds a position sort of like a king of the underground, where mention of his name can bring nervousness to those who may be in earshot of it.

Aloof and Playful -- Fear is no Factor
Which brings around the matter of the way the Duke actually carries himself. While many are nervous or afraid of the man, in truth, upon meeting him, he holds himself in a somewhat aloof manner. Quiet but commonly turning to humor to make people feel a sense of ease around him; Wriothesley is the sort of person who would prefer to make a joke to break tension than to make others uncomfortable by being overly serious.
This doesn't mean he doesn't know how to be serious--quite the opposite, when a situation demands a more serious take, he easily turns on a dime; his determination and presence becoming nearly cold and solid as ice in order to Get Things Done.
The one thing he refuses to turn to in order to maintain order in his home turf, however, is fear. He has been seen many times to prefer to turn to compassion and understanding--having changed many rules in the fortress since becoming its administrator to make the lives of others easier, in fact--and loathes anyone who tries to use fear and manipulation in order to bend others to their will. Due to a childhood trauma relating to people using fear as a meams to control others, he won't stand for it even now as an adult, and holds nothing back against those who would use such tactics under his watch.

Lead by Example -- Anyone can be Redeemed
The first step on the path to redeeming oneself is learning to reconcile with oneself. Wriothesley belives that those who understand themselves and their needs are the ones who will learn how to survive. "Needs are like Beasts," and if one cannot learn to face themselves and what path they need to take in life, they'll never truly be free to become their best self. Once an understanding of self can be achieved, one can move forward in life and become someone worthy of respect. Believing in this, Wriothesley leads by example--holding himself responsible for his own actions both from his childhood and in his day-to-day. He believes that everyone--those who live in his fortress and those outside it--should be free to live however they please. Just as people are allowed to give into the darkness of their heart, they should be allowed to redeem themselves from any mistakes they may have made in the past, as well.
While he did commit a heinous crime himself in order to get exiled in the past, he believes that people can change if they're given the freedom and oppertunity to reflect and rise up from it. He fully believes and holds close to his heart that genuine expression of faith in others means more to him than any sort of forced obligation to obey those who hold positions of power over others using fear or manipulation.

Light in Others, Low Opinion on Self
Wriothesley is the sort of person who will quite playfully and easily comment that he isn't really that impressive a person. He believes strongly that he isn't really talented, doesn't have many skills worth talking about, and that in many situations, he feels helpless to actually aid people. He is in fact very good at seeing the stengths and talents in other people; as he has sharp eyes that don't miss much and a mind that weaves things together in a way that he'll never forget it. Despite his claims of having no shine--he is actually extremely adept in understanding subtleties. Reading between the lines, knowing more about any situation than he's letting on--it's said that while the Duke of Meriopede doesn't often leave the fortress, he knows very well all the inner workings of his home. He has his ways of gleaning information without seeming like he's paying attention, and he's very keen of eye and ear; not much can get past him so long as he's paying even a modicum of attention. He will often let people continue what they're doing so long as he doesn't feel any real need to intervene, and he'll even let people do dishonest or sneaky things under his watch if it means they're doing something that will benefit or help him down the line. He doesn't enjoy interfering with others' lives, and loathes the spotlight so much that he didn't even attend his own Coronation when he recieved the title of Duke from the Iudex of Fontaine.
He is also quite talented in terms of fighting, lockpicking, as well as tinkering--despite what he says he has built quite a number of machines and oddities that he uses day to day--like his Boxing Gloves that he uses alongside his vision; as well as his Catalyst, "Cashflow Supervision," a tiny robot tasked with understanding and recording the ins and outs of the economy of the fortress.

Money isn't the only Valuable Thing
The last important factor about Wriothesley's personality is his ability to see the value in others, and the value in things such as hard work. This doesn't necessarily mean actual physical labor, but rather it can also be seen that those willing to work on themselves are people of worth. While he did not create the Credit Cupon system in the fortress, he did change a lot of the rules and how they were handled in day to day life in order to give those in the fortress more of a chance to survive--and beyond that, a chance to do something better with their lives. Money isn't the only thing of value, after all--people and their talents, their drives and determination are often worth more than Mora, and with this belief in his heart, he often chooses to put more effort in helping others with self-improvement rather than caring about "profit". Changing the rules to make it so everyone gets a free meal, whether they work or not is something he does not view as a "kindness", for example, but rather because he believes that if people are given basic needs and means to survive, then they are more likely to be motivated to lead better lives instead of simply giving up.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Evening of Nov . 17th

His Labyrinth can include the Fortress of Meriopede (prison) itself, as well as things relating to his honestly pretty shitty childhood where he killed his foster parents + had to survive on his own for a long time.

Items: Cryo Vision, Canon Outfit, anime-ass metal boxing glove things good god

Retained Abilities:

Forceful Fists of Frost - Punching and close-combat abilities are released with bursts of ice from his Cryo Vison.

Icefang Rush - Adjusting his breathing, rhythm, and pace, Wriothesley sprints forward a short distance, entering the Chilling Penalty state and unleashing more powerful attacks than before. (Using this injures him the longer he remains in this state.)

Canon Point: the end of season 2 of the anime / beginning of the Eight Star Demon Lords Arc
Age: over 2,000 years old
Birthday: give him the January 1st treatment
History: wiki rule

Personality:
+ curious; the driving force and factor. Veldora loves to learn new things and have fun experiences, he's the type to stick his nose all over the place searching for novel things. he's a voracious reader and likes to get himself into new situations (it's just where he comes from and his previous powerlevel usually made that mean that somebody's town was getting leveled. probably a vampire's. what was her name again?)
+ boisterous; life is a cornucopia of stuff to do and Veldora wants nothing more than to run at it pell-mell and see what happens next. he's happy to do some thinking, but he's mostly going to get to the doing as fast as possible because he's a good man, but a rowdy idiot.
+ easy-going; his self-esteem is impeccable (and we don't need to look at what's behind the curtain at all on that) and therefore most of life's problems roll right off of Veldora's back, leaving him surprisingly chill to be around when he's not Bored. he likes people and values being a protector and helping his friend(s) excel in their lives.
+ loyal; speaking of friend(s), Veldora values Rimuru Tempest and his vassals above all else. he's a protector and treasures their companionship, and anyone that earns his favor will find that they have a very exuberant wrecking ball of a man ready to do things that land you both in prison at a moment's notice. he's a ride or die.
+ perceptive; going hand in hand with his curiosity, Veldora started life with the Unique Skill: Investigator. he's always hungry for new knowledge and enjoys working on problems.
+/- loud; some people are born with the dial set to 10, and Veldora cranked his to 12. on one hand, it's a bit of a front; there's a part of Veldora that's actually shy and incredibly socially awkward because it's hard to have friends when you're a bulldozer in a field of tomato plants and the other bulldozers are bigger than you and tend to run you over whenever you challenge them to a bulldozer fight, leaving you with a fear of your fellow bulldozers that'd be a lot to unpack in therapy if only your medieval RPG setting had therapists. he hides this part under a loud veneer of strength, pride, and general enthusiasm for life and all its little curiosities. Veldora is here to be chaotic noise and have the best possible time during it.
- destructive; while Veldora is basically classified as an act of God (a Calamity-level monster) in his world, it's not that he revels in hurting people and destroying their property. he's more akin to a husky puppy left unattended for 10 minutes; if he's not occupied with reading or getting himself Into Interesting Scenarios he's getting antsy, and if he gets to antsy, the best way he knows how to work it off is to go raise cain and shit gets broken when a big-ass dragon goes out for a rager. he's not malicious about it, he's just a Great Dane in a tinyhome trying to find a ball.
- restless; going hand in hand with the above bulletpoint, if Veldora's not doing something, he's trying to find something to occupy his time with, otherwise he starts getting the itch to manifest violent storms and causing problems on purpose.
- childish; he's the youngest of four siblings, and technically the least established out of all of them. there's an immaturity in the way that he does things and relates to the world; he's very much the shonen hero of his heart even if that means the people around him are left diving out of his way in the wake of him doing whatever squirrely thing's crawled up his brainstem for the day. he has no tact and minimal social awareness and can be cowed if somebody's stern enough with him, which, again, no therapists in medieval isekai so we won't unpack all of that.
- himbo; pure of heart, thick of ass, dumb of head. Veldora means well and wants to do right by the people he treasures most, but he's a machine-gun at a paintball rifle fight. he goes based on his gut and has the best of intentions, but for all his love of digging into things and learning about them, he's still a dumb rowdy idiot who's going to ask question as he's already up to his neck in whatever the issue is. he will muck his way into a situation and muck his way back out, especially considering that Rimuru Tempest is 85% of his impulse control, and he's still got the secret elevated cheat code of being small enough that no one realizes he's coming still in effect.
- weeb; look I don't know how to tell you this but while he was living inside of his best friend from modern Japan's stomach, he read all of the manga that Rimuru had read in his 40 year old normal human man life inside of his memories and came away with a love of manga. he calls them 'sacred texts'. he uses Street Fighter moves and the Kamehameha in a fight at least once. what a fucking dork.

Time of Arrival to Kaisou: whenever the app is processed, likely after the Azdaha fight's gone down ICly

Labyrinth ideas: the worst part of Veldora's life was that time where he was sealed alone in a cave with basic RPG monsters, magic rocks, and plants and left to slowly die over the course of hundreds of years so. could also go in the direction of the city Veldora's BFF made being attacked again and destroyed?
Items: clothes, the complete edition of the Street Fighter II manga, a volume of the Dragon Ball Z manga, Komi-san Can't Communicate vol. 1
Retained Abilities: so imma be real with you since slime anime is an 'this is basically an RPG' isekai the abilities can get super busted but i am super happy to nerf them down to things that're good for Kaisou

+ Ultimate Skill: Faust: with only the analytical appraisal function unlocked; essentially acting as Magic Detection (High)

Player Name: Jade

Other Characters: Rose, Ei Inazuma, Kafka

Character Name: Frieren
Canon: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Canon History: Here! She had friends and they all died, so now she takes care of their proteges. That's it, that's the series.

Canon Personality: Frieren comes off as extremely cold at first. This is to be expected, she's an elf, after all--and as a species, their emotions tend to be muted. She experiences time differently than those around her, and it's extremely evident. While the others in her party talk about how long their journey was, to her it was a mere ten years--hardly any time at all. She's not an extremely sentimental person; when offered the chance to join in for a sunrise festival, for example, she doesn't see the point when every other sunrise is the same. Likewise, she often has trouble understanding how others feel about her--she may not realize that people actually want her there, for example.

Despite this, she does care, and has a natural curiosity about the world around her. After the passing of the hero Himmel, she realized she didn't know anything about her companions at all, and she decides she wants to learn more about humans. Although progress is slow going, it's definitely happening. For example, on Fern's birthday, she goes out of her way to get a present for her. She may not be able to fully understand human emotions, but she does make an effort.

That being said, Frieren can be absolutely bloodthirsty when she needs to. When she was much, much younger, Frieren's village was destroyed by demons. She was then picked up by her master, Flammel, and spent the next 1000 years of her long, long life learning how to suppress her mana so that she could better kill demons. Not only that, but she also helped develop a spell--that had the sole purpose of being able to kill demons really well. When the party comes upon a demon in the village, she immediately sets on the attack, before being stopped by a pair of town guards.

Despite all of this, Frieren can be a little clueless at time. She is utterly bereft of all forms of tact, and doesn't always pay attention to the world around her. She has a tendency to get caught in traps, for example, and has a special proclivity for getting eaten by mimics.

She also has a complete fascination for odd kinds of magic. Frieren's favorite hobby (in canon) is collecting grimoires for odd magic spells. Spells that do things like clean the laundry, create fields of flowers, and make grapes more sour. Although she's not a sentimental person, there's no doubt that she does this partially for those around her. For all that she's spent time developing magic for the purposes of killing demons, she prefers magic that makes the people around her happy.

AU Name: Frieren Leroux
AU Age: 23 - She's like over a thousand years old in canon.
AU Birthday: April 1st

AU History: Frieren in Kaisou is originally a normal human who was born to a pair of normal human parents. When she was a child, they took her to a magic show--where the magician was using real magic. This awakened something in her, and ever since then, she's dedicated her life to studying the history of magic throughout the ages.

She transfers to Kaisou as a graduate student, intent on studying the mysteries of the world around her. Although everyone in her life has told her that magic isn't real, she knows the truth is different. Her studies focus on finding the truth between the page and reality.

AU Personality Differences: None, except for she's a little more emotive. She doesn't have a century of ennui behind her here, after all.

Character Name: Furina de Fontaine.
Canon: Genshin Impact.
Canon Point: Post 4.2 & her story quest "The Little Oceanid".
Age: 500.
Birthday: October 13th.
History: Here.

Personality:
• Upon first introduction Furina comes off as flamboyant and imprudent, speaking and acting with an excessive amount of bravo and drama. She appears to live for the thrill of the courtroom and the trials that unfold inside of it. From this vantage point, it would be easy to assume she cares for little else wanting nothing more than the entertainment of the courtroom and eating sweet cakes. She can come off as impatient and with a child-like temper, making judgments that she does not wholly mean and must be reigned back in order to keep complications from happening. Furina appears to love the spotlight and is at her loudest (and seemingly happiest) when it shines on her positively, however should things no longer go to plan she quickly begins to break down and desperately tries to save face.

• All of this is because for the last five hundred years Furina has been tasked with something utterly monumental. After assuming the role of the Hydro Archon, Focalors came up with a plan in order to fool the Heavenly Principles and save Fontaine from certain destruction. In order to do this she split her divinity from her body, placing said divinity into the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale and leaving her body, which she gave the name Furina, outside with the most crucial of tasks; play the role of the Hydro Archon for all the people of Fontaine - a never-ending masquerade and never allow anyone to suspect who she truly is. Furina took on the task gladly, believing that her suffering would end up saving the people of Fontaine. It was a role she mastered and continued to play day in, day out, for the next five hundred years.

• However her new role came with a catch, a curse if you will, not allow Furina to die nor seek out her own happiness as long as her divinity, Focalors, still lived. This, and the task she had been given, eventually began to wear her down leaving Furina paranoid of others learning her secret and thus forcing her to keep others at arm's length. As the years pressed on Furina developed severe self-esteem issues and grew increasingly despondent, considering giving it all up more than once. Despite her exhaustion, her isolation, and her paranoia, she continued to press on.

• Eventually the prophecy came to pass and Furina was freed from her role as the Hydro Archon, leaving her undoubtedly free from her previous role. This saw a shift in her personality, although she is still flamboyant and dramatic at times, she also shows a softer, humbler, and insecure side of herself. At first, she struggled with the fact her role was over and began to believe her newfound freedom meant that no one had use of her anymore. It made it difficult for her to reach out to those she was closest to during her time as the Hydro Archon, believing they only stood at her side because she was the Archon and they would want nothing to do with her now. She also desired to never step onto the stage ever again, despite her love of acting, fearing that taking on different identities after having to sustain such a heavy burden for centuries could ultimately bring further harm to herself. It was only after being comforted by Nuevilette, Navia, and even being visited by Clorinde, Furina realized she did not need to live her life in solitude.

• It was only after she was recruited by the Traveller to aid a trope with a play that almost died before it was properly performed that Furina regained her courage to move forward and realize that she isn't so averse to going back on the stage than she once thought. It was during this that she learned to accept her identity as simply Furina, that she became free from the shackles that once bound her and received a Vision, stepping forward in her new life.

Character Name: Beredvyn of Nal
Canon: OC
Canon History: The youngest daughter of a noble family in a small kingdom, her older siblings tended to convince their parents to be rather... indulgent towards her. Meaning that when as a young girl she took an interest to learning things like swordsmanship, she was allowed to do so, much to everyone's amusement. Then she turned out to have a natural talent for such martial pursuits, and fast forward some years and she's become a respected leader among her father's forces.

Then the king (her uncle, as it happens) was poisoned, leading to internal strife as people took sides backing one prince or the other, and Beredvyn cheerfully ignored all that to hastily gather an army to repel an opportunistic invasion staged by two neighboring kingdoms. For her trouble (and after some truth came out about what the king had been planning prior to his untimely death) she ended up being made queen, much to her annoyance.

Of course, that was only the start of things. The neighboring kings wanted to negotiate for the return of assets Beredvyn had captured while routing their armies, so the three of them (and their entourages, of course) agreed to use another, neutral location just across the mountains for it. Of course, they hadn't been there long when an earthquake severely damaged the lower part of the pass to get home, effectively stranding them for the winter. Then one of her nobles Beredvyn had brought as an advisor is accused of theft. And on top of it she's still trying to sort through and decide how to deal with the many minor (and not so minor) things that come with being queen, from directing road repairs to reviewing marriage offers.

Suffice it to say, it was a very stressful time, patience was tested, tempers flared, and occasional mistakes were made. But in the end Beredvyn was able to pull through to pacify her neighbors without weakening her position, clear her vassal's name, and even sort out some of her personal feelings about her new responsibilities along the way.

As a note, given the kind of OC this is, if it's not clear from the summary Beredvyn does not have any special powers despite being from a fantasy world. Maybe the kind of low level general "anyone can learn" it magecraft like starting a fire or magical first aid, but no more than that!

Canon Personality: Beredvyn is pretty strong-willed, first and foremost. She was already naturally inclined that way, and her upbringing certainly did nothing to curb that tendency. She tends to be confident, decisive, and assertive, all things that helped her successfully lead an army and later become queen. She's also incredibly dutiful: she wants what's best for everyone, and can and will shelve her personal feelings if she has to; the fact that she genuinely didn't want to rule but agreed to be queen anyway is a constant and deep source of inner conflict for her because of this.

On the other hand a strong will can easily become sheer stubbornness, and her assertive confidence often borders--or even outright becomes--aggression. That she's so dutiful herself means she doesn't suffer fools, and she often finds herself needing to put considerable effort to rein in her temper when frustrated or stressed. Beredvyn also has a tendency to think so much in the bigger picture that she neglects to consider other people's individual feelings, even those of people she cares deeply about.

Finally, for as imposing as her presence can be, she's actually quite private when it comes to personal matters. She'll make friends quickly enough, but getting any deeper takes time, and she's not a fan of people getting overly familiar that she doesn't feel have earned it.

AU Name: Meredith Nelson
AU Age: 25
AU Birthday: July 17

AU History: Grew up in a pretty average family somewhere in the midwest US, nothing too special here. Got into sports as a kid, leading to taking up fencing in college and then getting introduced to HEMA as her main hobby. Went to grad school for a business degree and then moved to Kaisou for a job, which she's now a few months into! Basically preeeetty boring, uneventful life that's about to get very, very disrupted.

AU Personality Differences: The fact that she's grown up in a society where it's socially acceptable for girls to be into things like sports, swordfighting, and having a career means that Meredith will be much, MUCH more chill than her past life. She's still plenty confident, just not aggressively so, and is actually fairly even-tempered as she's not constantly needing to prove herself. Other than that pretty much the same!
