oh? are we doing some detective work, inspector zelos?
no subject
Yeah, that's the plan. I figured it'd at least give us a clue if people are leaving on purpose or if it's by random chance.
no subject
i don't spend any time in the apartments so i don't know where they lived, but if you give me an idea i can help the others out. more hands make for lighter work, or whatever
no subject
Tachibana lived in [APARTMENT NUMBER].I'm less familiar with the other two, but we can start with hers.
[At no point did she ever give him her apartment number. The joys of angel hearing]
no subject
great! i'll be over there soon.
-> Action
[And he will be! Whenever he hears Amal enter the building? He'll head down to meet him at Tachibana's apartment]
no subject
Hey! So we need in here, huh?
[He reaches into his jacket and pulls out two skinny things that are either lockpicking implements or toothpicks for a tiger, and he brandishes them between his fingers like they're throwing knives.]
Leave it to me~
[And he sets to picking the locks!]
no subject
Hey~! And yup, that one right here.
[He'll lean against a wall while he works]
Damn you got proper picks and everything!
no subject
[He works methodically. Tick... tick... tick... and the door gently opens.]
Unless technology is involved, most locks work the same. I haven't figured out how to get through the locks with the number pads though, so I usually just force the door open.
[AMAL]
no subject
[Honestly he's not even going to judge at Amal breaking into places. Sometimes you gotta do crime. When it clicks and the door open, he'll give a little fist pump to keep himself from patting Amal on the shoulder. RESPECTING BOUNDARIES]
Nice work!
[He pushes the door open more so they can go in and....well, Tachibana's place looks less like a cute girl's apartment and more like an absolutely pigsty you'd expect from a 30 year old disaster bachelor]
- Damn.
no subject
[He tucks his tools away and glances around.]
It looks like a bomb went off in here. I can't tell if someone was kidnapped and made all this mess, or if they just live like this...
[He nudges an empty takeout container with his foot.]
... Yeah, all right, I think they're just a slob.
no subject
[Well whatever. He's not gonna judge or turn in Amal so it doesn't matter. He instead looks around, his nose wrinkling a little at the smell of dirty laundry and food]
Yeah I think she just lived like this... [Gross. He'll try to step carefully so not to step on anything] Pretty surprised, she seemed like such a cute girl.
[Zelos you just say that because she looked like Colette]
no subject
[He can't find any evidence of a real fight. No defensive marks on the walls or paths in the trash, just stuff on the floor. It all feels very neglected.]
It's like she just left for a moment and never came back. This is... eerie.
[He gently pushes open the bedroom door, but finds more of the same.]
No blood or signs of a struggle.
no subject
[He's just saying!!! He'd never let himself live in filth]
But yeah, you're right...it's almost like she's gonna come out at any moment and ask why we're here.
[He looks around the bedroom behind Amal, spotting something on the nightstand]
Look! Her phone's still here.
[Sure enough, a smartphone sits on the nightstand, like it had just been set there]
no subject
[He pokes around a bit more, but everything looks undisturbed. The thick layer of dust on some of these surfaces speaks novels-- they haven't been touched since Tachibana moved in.]
Huh? [He turns to see the nightstand, then the phone.] Oh, that's...
Girls don't just leave their tomestones, last I checked.
no subject
[Not that he actually minds. He likes his place with Ana and Adol]
Yeah, they sure don't. Especially not one familiar with technology like she was.
I know she has a tendency to get kidnapped, but I don't think it was that either. I haven't left the building much, so I would've heard it.
[There's no point in hiding his hearing from Amal. He already knows that he's a weird thing]
no subject
[He kind of figured as much, considering how happy they all seem about the arrangement. Amal is glad that Zelos has company.]
Then... all the evidence points to her vanishing into mid-air.
[He's not too weirded out by Zelos' admission. Miqo'te have good hearing, too.]
... like the portals that brought us to the spirit realm in the first place.
no subject
[He knows he got pretty reclusive for awhile there. Depression does that ]
Seems like....so in other words, we show up and leave at the Spirit Realm's whims.
no subject
[Amal doesn't mind, honestly. He's just happy to be able to help other people when they need a place to crash or a safe space.]
... Damn, [he says after a moment.] I thought it was Zodiac controlling the portals this whole time and that they were using it as a cover story...
[Whoops.]
They might be telling the truth after all.
no subject
[A beat]
Amal, my dude. I really dig you. But if Zodiac was controlling the portals, I think they would've picked better people than all of us.
[WE'RE ALL GARBAGE FIRES. NO ONE WOULD WANT TO DEAL WITH US BY CHOICE]
no subject
Yeah, yeah, but... [He's not sure if he wants to get into what he truly does for a living outside of Kaisou.] I just assumed Zodiac was one more group of people who thought I could be used like a weapon.
[A brief pause, and then he laughs.]
You're right, though. Who the hell would bring us in by choice? We're all pains in the ass, and if they tried to force us to do anything we'd just kill them.
no subject
Used like a weapon?
What's that supposed to mean?
no subject
At home, I'm considered strong. Really strong. And when you're strong, people covet that strength. I've been forced to fight both for and against people because they desired my power in some way... to the point where I'm seen less like a person and more like a... thing.
I didn't ask to be the factor that changes a battle, and I think that's honestly giving me too much credit, but that hasn't stopped various world leaders from asking me to solve their problems.
[He rolls one shoulder in a halfhearted shrug.]
I'm trying to get away from that. I'm a damn sharp blade, to be sure—but I belong to myself alone.
no subject
What are the chances, really]
Tch. People are always looking for someone else to solve their own problems. And if they can do it on someone that they can rationalize as "special" - so much the better to them.
Typical. No wonder you want to get away from that.
no subject
Sounds like you're no stranger to burdens either.
I'm no doormat, and I never intended to be. But I feel like sometimes... people get addicted to power, or at least having powerful people under their thumb. It took me a while to realize my own strength and that I could say no.
