[He's so very scared. He's already freaked out about being trapped here, but this is a whole different mess on top of it. He doesn't know how to handle it at all.

But theories? Theories are great. He's got a scientific mind, theories are familiar. Theories are safe.]

Of course not. Now, my world, eons ago, was shattered in a massive calamity that killed most of the people in the world. These shattered pieces became the Shards and they surround the Source, and the souls of the Ancients became new souls. I am from the Source--however, when I visited one of the Shards to aid a friend, I discovered a man with whom I shared a soul.

It's not quite the same as what is happening here, obviously, but my theory is that, somehow, this world is a shard of thousands of other worlds and the souls here are simply...copies or reflections of the people we know. And, as with every copy and reflection in a mirror, some things aren't quite as they are with the original. Perhaps it is the memories. Perhaps it is everything save the soul.

[He has a thousand questions that he wants to ask about how those shards functioned, how did people travel between them- were there old souls and new? He's so curious about it, but that curiosity is eclipsed by the worry had for Catalina- by how empty and hurt it's making him feel.]

There is a mirror dimension back home. I never saw it, but I know the mirror copies were... really bad. This probably isn't like that.

Perhaps reflection wasn't the best word, just the one I know. Think of it instead as...as a what if?

Oh. Okay. So like... an alternate life? I guess that makes sense. I doesn't make this less awful, but it does make sense.
