it's a pun! a joke about language that's based on how words sound similar to one another

the main character of the book is a mouse who goes through some really rough times and has to do some bad things to survive, so "cheese forgive me" is a play on "please forgive me"

when your text-to-voice reads it out, "cheese" and "please" sound kinda similar, don't they?
