Character Name: Zero Canon: Final Fantasy XIV (Paranormal Modern AU) Canon History:(CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE NEWEST PATCH 6.3)Here. Surprisingly detailed for a wiki.
Canon Personality: 🌒 Honest. Zero has no reason to spread lies, which means she's honest. Brutally so, at times. 🌒 Detached. Emotions are a luxury that she does not have as a voidsent. Emotion is a human thing. She regards her world with a cold, logical detachment that has kept her from perishing. 🌒 Curious. Though she has little reason to be, Zero is very curious about the Light in the world and the way that Etheirys' people work. Her natural curiosity is what leads her to join the Scions in their quest to find the dragon lost in the Thirteenth. She asks a lot of innocent questions, and a lot of why—even if it makes her stand out to ask things like "why don't you just leave that person for dead?" 🌒 Tenacious. She is scrappy even when outnumbered, fighting til the very last of her strength. Refusing to be conquered, even when helpless her spirit does not break. She simply waits for her chance to break free. 🌒 Independent. Zero spent considerable time under the oppressive thumb of Zenos, who stole her power and forced her into servitude. She remembers this time well and despises being under the thumb of others. She ran off on her own rather than serving a stronger voidsent in exchange for safety, and her domain eventually became the home of misfit demons who were too cowardly or had lost their masters. 🌒 Rudderless. She has little in the way of her own motivations. Instead, she follows her curiosity and a quietly understated sense of adventure. She takes interest in the Warrior of Light and the Scions and follows them partially because she's curious about what they'll do, but she has no strong attachment or goals until she realizes that a "fire burns in [her] breast." Up until then, she seems to follow her own whims. 🌒 Logical. Zero has a very particular set of rules. She declares she'll only aid the party if given payment. However, the price of this payment can vary depending on her mood, from someone's mana reserves to a simple apple. She obviously isn't above tweaking her own rules or making excuses to do what she wants, though she'd never admit it. 🌒 Tactless. Owing to her slow reacclimation to humanity, Zero can say things that are strange or downright rude without realizing she's broken some rule. She also doesn't... care if someone gets upset, though she seems to be aware of her misstep if she doesn't receive the expected reaction. 🌒 Impulsive. Though she's out of touch with her own emotions and her own heart, that doesn't stop her from rushing into situations that defy "proper" logic-- such as protecting innocents or taking on a veritable army by herself. Sometimes she'll do these things and not understand why she did them. 🌒 Protective...? Zero may have no desire to be a leader, but others gravitated to her strength on the Thirteenth, and she watched over them with a keen, discerning eye that could tell when something was amiss about them. She also won't stand by while people perish unnecessarily, when she knows that she could easily help them. Despite her insistence, others see her as something of a guardian, if not exactly maternal. 🌒 Strong-willed. For a voidsent, it's kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. Even so, she despises the act of consuming others' life force because it dulls the sense of self, and consumes energy only. The fact that she's lived for possibly centuries and kept her form speaks to her sense of self.
AU Name: Cecilia Black AU Birthday: November 1st
AU History:
(cw: child abuse/experimentation)
Hailing from a rural part of Ireland, Trista was an impoverished woman in a bad situation. Unfortunately, this made her the perfect prey for Krusnik. They coerced her into cooperation with the promise of shelter, food, and money. What they did was far from charitable. They immediately recruited the woman into their current twisted project, which involved combining humans with the mana and genetics of supernaturals (monsters).
Though Trista was not strong or gifted, she was resilient enough to carry her unborn child to term... though not without consequences. The experiments that Krusnik forced on the woman had touched the baby in her womb, gifting the child a half-existence. Cecilia was born a normal-looking baby with brown hair and gray eyes, but she radiated a soul-deep darkness that made her ideal for further experimentation.
Surprisingly enough, Cecilia's mother lasted a few years longer. At night she told her daughter fanciful stories of heroes waging war against evil, mostly based on books and radio shows she had heard in her youth. As Krusnik ramped up its experiments, Trista grew weaker and eventually succumbed to her poor health. Cecilia was only about four, and reacted about as well as anyone can expect—by taking out her rage and grief on everything around her with her powers.
This was precisely what Krusnik wanted. They subdued her and subjected her to countless trials, buffeting her with all kinds of magic to test her limits and see what else they could awaken. They even threw her into battle against both beasts and true monsters, and whatever horrors their lab could create, but they never let her die. Whenever she got close to death they'd bring her back from the brink and start it all over again when she'd healed. This was how she grew up: knowing very little save for pain and experiments and the briefest moments of mercy from handlers who usually didn't last long. She retreated into a corner of her mind to keep her sanity and thought only of survival, a void where no one and nothing could touch her.
Krusnik realized at some point that, though Cecilia had survived and most of their other subjects in this division had not, she lacked the chimerical qualifications they had hoped to cultivate. She showed no signs of turning into a shade, nor even possession. Though they'd sunk countless years into the fortification of their shadow child, something had to be done.
The atmosphere in the lab changed enough that even Cecilia noticed. In the middle of the night, a team of scientists and muscle were sent to dispose of their failed experiment. She fought like hell against the injections, so they grabbed guns. When the guns weren't enough, they tried for magic, but it was too late: nothing is more terrifying or unpredictable than a cornered animal. Sensing her chance for freedom, Cecilia tore through her attackers with shadow magic and made her escape.
Her identification bracelet gave her designation as 02943 so she took the alias Zero when asked her name. Through the kindness of strangers she was given clothes and a chance to get on her feet in a small town. It wasn't long before some strange men came asking around about an escaped "hospital" patient. This kicked off a game of cat and mouse; every time Zero started to get established somewhere, she would have to run away again. A few years ago she realized that North America might be safer, so she secured a plane ticket and landed on the east coast. In order to avoid detection, she made her way inward, until she heard a rumor about Kaisou's supernatural happenings.
Curious despite herself, and craving stability more than she cared to admit, she hitchhiked to Kaisou to investigate.
AU Personality Differences:
This Zero is a little more traumatized than the Zero in canon, who may not remember how things were before the war, but would at the very least recall the world before it was swallowed by the void. Zero had very no memories to go on since she was raised in the lab. She had some vague expectations of what the outside world is like due to listening to the people who worked in the center as well as the stories her mother told, but very little of it is helpful-- thankfully she has some real-world experience. Zero also has a lot of painful memories floating around that she's just... dissociated from, which is a totally normal and healthy coping mechanism. It's fine, though. Probably.
Because of her lack of knowledge and abilities, she's forced to rely on others more. She still puts emphasis on not owing anyone anything, though, because she feels like it might be used against her... or cause Krusnik to find and punish anyone who helped her. That too. She is a hard worker, but only on her own terms, as is to be expected.
In canon, the object that would be the source of Zero's angst and revenge is dead, so justice has already been served and she can move on. However, Krusnik is an organization that is very much alive and still doing horrible things. She feels an intense desire to destroy that place, and an even more intense fear of being discovered-- neither of which she has begun to process.
Element: Shadow Purchased Powers: - Can make medium sized claws of shadow or a medium-sized blades made of compressed darkness to attack. (2 pts) - Enhanced strength (2 pts) - Slowed aging (you twice as long to age). (2 pts)
