Character Name: Flat Escardos Canon: Fate/strange fake Canon History:here
Canon Personality:
Happy-Go-Lucky: Flat is a character that can, undoubtedly, be considered to be "happy-go-lucky". He's someone that always has a genuine smile on his face. Unlike most Magi in the Clock Tower, he seems to lack any and all forms of seriousness. Even while in the middle of the Holy Grail War, his top priority is to make friends with all of the Masters and Servants--aka, his enemies. It's this friendly attitude that seems to attract people towards him, as they realize that he truly does not have a single bad bone in his body. He's someone that tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, putting his feelings and intentions out there with little to nothing underneath it.
Lacking motivation: Unlike most other Magi in the society, something that Flat seems to greatly lack is a drive to do things. Instead, Flat is someone that drifts from interest to interest, absorbing information about all that surrounds him before moving on to the next shiny thing. For the biggest part of the war he didn't even care about obtaining the Grail or even getting a wish from it. He's happy enough with just seeing it, as long as he's able to make some friends along the way.
Amoral: His morals do not line up with human morals at all, and his world view is far removed from both Magi and normal humans alike. As his parents describe it, it's as if the telescope they had been looking through had actually been a cannon this entire time. He shows that he's capable of murder, even, but does not because he considers that a "waste".
Loyal: Flat is extremely loyal to his professor, Waver Velvet, and the classroom that he teaches. This is due to how Waver influenced his life, by saving him when Flat was in his darkest moment. This loyalty influences Flat's normally amoral personality, as he has tried to adapt Waver's moral compass as his own, and won't do things that he thinks would disappoint Waver.
AU Name: Technically N/A. "Flat" is his nickname in canon, so it's his nickname here. AU Birthday: 12/1
AU History:
A boy is born to the Escardos family, a Monegasque family that is currently headed entrepreneurs who founded and run various businesses in Europe, ranging from solar energy to cruise tourism companies.
Living in Monaco, his parents laud him as a genius. All developmental milestones are reached earlier than expected, and his parents pour their efforts and wishes into his growth, trying to mold him into their future heir. Etiquette classes, language classes, private tutors-- you name it, and he went through it. The child was never allowed to have his own interests or wishes, as he is simply a vessel, filled with hopes for the family.
As the child grows, at eight years old, his personality begins to show through the cracks, along with some things that they can't comprehend. The boy talks to the thin air and claims to see things that they can't. Though they take him to a plethora of doctors across the European continent, no one can pinpoint what is wrong with their son, until one of them does: Your child can sense and interact with the supernatural.
The Escardos' do not accept this. They shun the boy that they had, until just recently, rejoiced over, and claim that he's sick and wrong. Simultaneously, things go wrong among their many companies. The sales fall and their stocks crash, their profits turning to dust. The reasoning is clear— if the supernatural is real, then this child of theirs is a bad omen. Feeling their terror, the boy grows scared of his own power, but he has no idea how to make it stop.
Ready to rid themselves of their cursed child, the Escardos couple send him away. They send him to a boarding school countries far away, where the supposed curse would not be able to reach them. In months, the child is kicked out due to behavioral issues— disrespectful and dangerous, they say. They send him to another one, and the same thing occurs. When they send him to the third one, it's almost not surprising for either the parents or the boy when he gets kicked out for the third time.
The boy tries to mend his ways in the fourth school, but finds himself falling into the same patterns each time. To compensate for the differences between how he and the others see the world, he acts out in class, gaining the notoriety of a class clown and a troublemaker. He realizes that there is no way to make his ability stop, and that the most he can do is pretend and copy that which he sees. He takes inspiration from movies, manga, and anime to create the persona that will scare/intimidate others the least; he becomes a slacker and a goof and tells no one about his powers. In doing so, however he makes himself miserable and grows to resent what he sees, because it's the reason that he's in this situation in the first place. His grades dip as he sees himself falling into a depression, but there's no one there to catch him as he continues navigating his school life into secondary school.
At 16, his family goes bankrupt, but they use a good chunk of their remaining money to ensure that their son stays the fuck away from them, by sending him to Kaisou City where he finishes his studies. Though the boy— now a young man— appears to be energetic and the life of the party, he is in fact mostly apathetic and simply coasting without purpose. Once he graduates high school, his scores are too low to go to college, nor does he have anything that he really wishes to do as a career. It's only on the Internet that he finds some solace, and he ends up finding interest in talking about pop culture with other people. On the Internet, he names himself "Flat", and slowly gains popularity with others. Popularity among forums and chat servers gives him the confidence to be bold and try out...game streaming! And it's successful!
"Flat" Escardos becomes a rather popular video game streamer. He streams every day to a rather wide audience of teenagers and young adults, charmed by his eccentric, comical personality and variety in content that he brings to his streams. He streams mostly games, but will also talk about Internet culture, rare movies, television shows— you name it, he'll talk about it. At 19, Flat has almost fully adopted his Internet persona as his own and become a successful streamer, making a good chunk of his revenue from it. The other seems to be from whatever random commissions he can get and is interested in. He codes, he draws, he mixes music— whatever you want and he finds interesting, he'll do it.
Through his internet deep dives, he finds more about the moonlit world. And though he has hardly any contact with his parents , but Flat still feels estranged among normal people due to his differences and unable to connect with the magical world because of his isolation from it for years.
AU Personality Differences:
Apathetic: Flat is far more apathetic than his original canon self, due to years of having to pretend to be someone and something that he isn't. His true emotions have been muted under years and years of having to suffuse them in order to act like a more normal person. It's been a long time since he has given someone a genuine, heartfelt smile or laughed a real laugh.
Distant: Having been unable to connect with either side of the world, both normal and paranormal, he's far more distant and impersonal with other people. He has his streamer persona when he wants to talk to people he doesn't know, and he has many people that he's acquainted to, but it's rare for him to actually form an emotional connection with anyone.
