Gwayne and Takame make pretty good amateur detectives. Maybe it's because of all the time they've spent solving problems that other people have started. Though they don't help with the recurring fires, they are able to find some clues in the burned out areas of the shop that lead them to believe something more serious lies beneath the surface.The duo uncover not only an illegal fire salamander breeding facility, but documents indicating that this has been going on for some time as a thriving black market business spanning both the surface and Undertown. After dodging some of the more insidious magical traps, including a ballista full of the hottest hot sauce in Kaisou aimed directly at their faces and some fire-aspected imps for security detail, they settle down to work. They're able to capture the salamanders and turn them over to the magical authorities who are able to rehome them in various ways (including a supernatural rehab facility, wow!) and restore order to the area. With their muscle they're even able to get some of the breeders involved arrested... but the ringleader is nowhere to be found. Still, it's a resounding success, and if the mastermind wants to continue his cruel work they'll have to start over, so they likely won't be seen again for a while.

For their efforts, Gwayne and Takame receive $300 to be split as they see fit and a coupon for 20% off pizza at the establishment for THREE MONTHS. This is a great deal! Also, due to the difficulty of finding homes for salamanders, one or both of them can take home a salamander as a pet since they can't be released into the wild. (The salamander will have its fire glands humanely removed though. It's for safety reasons.)
