Over the ages, numerous groups across the world have formed and grown as a response to the spirit realm and the paranormal. These days, there are a countless numbers of them, ranging from massive behemoths with international renown among those who know of the supernatural, to tiny groups made up of family members or a couple people who are just out to protect their neighborhood. While most of the groups agree that it's best to keep a low profile to the unknowing public, they tend to have extremely differing opinions and agendas when it comes the paranormal and what should be done with it. It's not uncommon for factions to develop special techniques or technologies that only they can use, or to even have hostile relationships with another faction.
The currently known factions in Kaisou are as followed:

Location: International
Size: Very Large
Mission: "To utilize the Spirit Realm for the betterment of humanity"
Also known as: The Capitalists.
Members: Unknown, employs freelancers
Player Contact: Mod-Run
Zodiac is an organization founded and funded by the cooperative work of major companies around the globe. Named after the original 12 corporations that worked together to create it, these days there's many more corporations that are taking part. It's difficult to confirm WHICH corporations are currently taking part of Zodiac due to lack of legal regulations with the supernatural, but there's plenty of rumors. Being funded by corporations, Zodiac is a profit-driven organization. While they will help out in rescue and humanitarian efforts in order to help with maintaining good PR, the main lens they approach any situation is through a profit leaning one.
To save on labor costs, the Kaisou branch of Zodiac utilizes freelance agents to accomplish missions for them. Doing jobs for Zodiac will net you a decent profit, but to what long reaching consequences will result from helping them -- well, only the future can tell.

The Perplexing Organism Knowledge Enrichment and Growth Organization, or POKEGO for short, is an organization of scientists and researchers with a strong interest in learning more about the Spirit Realm. No one knows what they plan to do with this research, but they seem to have an overall optimistic viewpoint that with more knowledge and understanding can only serve to benefit everyone. Among paranormal groups, they have a reputation of being enthusiastic nerds who'll talk your ear off about their newest discovery. Interestingly, all the members of this group have a tree-based code name that they pick when they join. It's unclear if these are pseudonyms to protect their identity, or just a strange quirk.
More information can be found on the organization here.

Mission: To preserve the sanctity of the Spirit Realm
Also known as: THE CHURCH
Members: various

The Black Order is one of the more enigmatic factions among paranormal circles. Funded and supported in secret by numerous religious organizations, members of the Black Order believe strongly in protecting the numerous holy grounds found within the Spirit Realm. Agents of the Black Order, known as Guardians, are renown for their combat prowess and abilities that far surpass normal abilities. While they have a long sorted history of attempting to restrict access to the Spirit Realm in any capacity, in the modern era they usually keep their presence concealed unless you attempt to interfere a gate that has been deemed as "sacred". Beyond that, little is known about them or what they do outside the purview of people. Even those who encounter a Black Order Guardian will have trouble recalling any identifying details about them.
As of August of 2024, the "Unyielding", the old leaders of the Black Order, have been killed through the combined efforts of rebelling Black Order members and the Libra App users. It’s currently undergoing a transitional period.

Mission: For society's 'dead' who don't belong in heaven or hell. Its true aim is to accumulate wealth and information for Hua Cheng.
Also known as: Ghost mafia
Members: Hua Cheng, Sampo Koski, Husk
Player Contacts: Saffy
Ghost City earned its name because its members tend to be the outcasts of the already-fringe supernatural society. Everything from vampires to were-rats to paranormals who faked their death and live underground, as long as they behave, Ghost City will give them a job. Under various aliases and disguises, Ghost City has ties to local gambling halls, brothels, strip clubs, and other ventures or scams that may have turned a profit. Some of these exist above ground, but the majority cater to or are populated by supernaturals.
You can tell you're in Ghost City territory because of the blazing red Chinese lanterns used as decorations all year round.
Location: International (primarily Eurasia)
Size: Unknown, but estimated to be small
Mission: Unknown
Also known as: Child-nappers
Members: Abel Nightroad (former victim), Jun Nightroad (former victim), Ash Cabott (former victim), Zero (former victim), Ragna (professional wrecker of their shit)
Player Contacts: Yuff
A mysterious and elusive organization even by paranormal organization standards, in some countries Krusnik is akin to the boogieman for paranormal-aligned children. While the facts are scarce, what is known about them is that Krusnik will visit impoverished and downtrodden areas, posing as a charitable adoption agency that tells desperate parents they can give their child a better life. When that tactic doesn't work, they've also been known to swoop in and snatch children they think won't be missed. They tend to target children with naturally high spirit senses. Many of these children aren't heard from again, but over the years there's been a smattering of reports from victims who were able to escape. These reports paint a picture that children under Krusnik undergo a lot of experiments, as well as an upbringing education to mold them to be obedient fighters for Krusnik. A few reports hint that the main purpose of Krusnik's experiments revolve around creating a controllable possession with a god. Just what they plan to do with that once they achieve their goal is up to pure speculation at this time.
In 2015, an unknown assailant attacked the organization's main compound, killing a large number of Krusnik's core members and leaders. This greatly crippled the organization, causing the surviving cells to either go underground or find ways to rebuild. In the summer of 2023, the largest of these remaining cells, led by Georg Weissman and Philip Wittebane, attempted to move into Kaisou in hopes of taking advantage of the city's unusual situation. However, their plan was thwarted and the cell was destroyed by the combined efforts of the Black Order and the Libra App users. Isolated cells exist still throughout the world, but without its core leadership, they're in a greatly weakened state. And thanks to rogue vigilantes occasionally attacking cells they manage to locate in recent years, they’re unlikely to surface as a formidable threat again.

Size: Significant and growing as a company

The Kreuzen Corporation's main business is in dealing with precious metals and gemstones. Other branches of the company include jeweler stores and electronics. They seem to be working towards a monopoly in Europe, and they have an interest in expanding their corporation overseas to reach a wider consumer base. Although they market to everyday people, they've begun muscling into the supernatural market as well. Rumor among the mundane people goes that purchasing from Kreuzen's jewelers gives you pretty good luck.
What isn't known by the general public is that lately the company has been exploiting supernatural creatures and people, particularly seers. There seems to be some sort of business connection between Kreuzen's CEO and Krusnik.
Factions Run by Former Players
These factions were created by players no longer in the game and had no heir apparents. They still exist in the world of Kaisou, but they are currently entirely manned by NPCs and aren't likely to be brought up in the main plot.

Both incredibly secret and not at all, Styx is known to the public at large for their technological advancements. While they're not quite as huge of a corporation like Apple, they're well known in tech junky circles for having some of the best money can buy and for constantly making advancements in robotics and AI. As for the supernatural side of things? Not many people outside of the Shroud family know about that at all as they've taken great strides to keep their research to themselves and not make any waves.
Location: International. Many individual libraries and universities around the world communicating with one another, largest branch is in Morocco, Kaisou branch is the Eaglewing Library

A very old and very secretive organization of academics and scholars. Considered a bit stodgy, maybe even a bit elitist, the Fellowship values austerity and cautious neutrality, meaning it doesn't command much sway of its own and prefers to take a more advisory/consolatory role. In recent decades, some branches have grown more progressive and open to outsiders.
Imagine a bunch of crusty old academics in heated debate about obscure facts, "we do not talk about the orangutan" style, and arguing about traditions while some younger upstarts try to get them to modernize. That's kind of where we're at.
As stated before, there are countless factions around the world! So players are welcome to create their own factions that line up with their characters backgrounds! As long as the factions fit into the rules of the world, you can get as creative as you want with them! The big thing is any organization that would rival Zodiac in power and size, we'd probably need to have a longer conversation with it. Not saying no, just the mod would want input on how it'd affect the world.
You can fill out information about your faction below:
Players who wish to have their character join an already established faction should contact the players who created it for permission! If the original creators are no longer in the game and they did not name a successor, the group shall default to being mod-run
If you have any questions about creating or joining a faction, go ahead and ask in the question section below!
