If they had caught you and deemed you too much of a flight risk, you could have ended up sealed away at the bottom of the ocean.

No, I didn't know, actually. Once I did join, I was under the impression they kept that part pretty damn secret.

I had no reason to know, no reason to want to.

They did, but people still disappeared with little explanation, and the Sealing spell's existence wasn't as big of a secret as they tried to pretend it was.
