Character Name: Tenn Kujo Canon: IDOLiSH7 Canon History: Tenn Kujo, formely known as Tenn Nanase, was born alongside his twin brother, Riku. The two of them grew up in a relatively happy household and had a strong relationship. Their parents owned a club that would eventually start having financial issues; another big issue in the family was Riku's health condition. Riku had respiratory problems that would often put him in the hospital. While all of this was happening, a man named Takamasa Kujou had set his sights on Tenn in his efforts to search for a new legendary idol.
He offered to help the Nanase family with their financial troubles if Tenn would enter his family instead. At the age of thirteen, Tenn accepted Kujou's offer and was officially adopted by him. His name legally changed to Tenn Kujo and he abandoned the Nanase name, hurting Riku and their parents in the process.
After being adopted by Kujou, Tenn would later debut in a group under Yaotome Productions named TRIGGER alongside his bandmates, Gaku Yaotome and Ryuunosuke Tsunashi.
Canon Personality:
Tenn is extremely dedicated to his craft and will stop at nothing to make sure his fans are all taken care of and happy. In Part 1, Tenn feels very faint and nearly collapses before a concert. He has to be carried back to the concert hall by Tamaki, and despite their worries about his current (at the time) condition, Tenn still performed flawlessly. He didn't show an ounce of being tired or feeling ill during his performance, either. Tenn takes being an idol very seriously and makes it a point to dedicate himself to his career.
Tenn will give a lot of respect to other idols when he can see their hard work come to fruition. At the end of Part 1, TRIGGER is defeated at the Black or White event by IDOLiSH7. Despite this, Tenn doesn't look the slightest bit perturbed and tells Gaku that I7's desire to win reached the audience more than theirs. He accepts defeat gracefully and congratulates Riku and the rest of I7 on their victory without any sort of hidden bitterness or resentment. Furthermore, he shows a lot of respect to Re:vale -- Re:vale is considered TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7's seniors due to being around longer and having more experience in the industry, and Tenn really admires their legacy.
Tenn's dedication to his fans ties into how selfless he can be. He prioritizes his fans over his own wellbeing; in Part Two, when he asks Riku if there's someone he likes, Riku responds that he's interested in someone. When he asks the same question back to Tenn, Tenn said that his relationship is with his fans and talks about making them happy. Furthermore, Tenn's reason for leaving the Nanase family was to protect them -- especially Riku -- and he abandoned his family name in order to keep them financially stable.
Despite the cheerful, kind smiles he wears in the public eye, Tenn can actually be ruthless when it comes to voicing his opinions, especially around TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7. He's not always the "People's Angel" behind the scenes. In Part 2, he tells Riku that he should quit being an idol, and that if Riku really wants to say, he'll clap for him when he sings karaoke. Ouch. He also gets into arguments with Gaku pretty often because of their different interpretations of what it means to be an idol.
Other than showing a different face backstage, Tenn has some issues with communication. When Riku asks Tenn why he left home, Tenn gives him a false reason: He tells Riku that he thought their parents were wrong and weren't handling their club well. He hides this because he knows the truth would absolutely break Riku and make Riku feel like a liability, but that coupled with how he always says Riku isn't his brother anymore mask how he really does feel about Riku. There are a handful of moments in which Riku dishes the same amount of hurt back at Tenn when he gets upset, such as when Riku genuinely believes Tenn never needed him. Tenn is clearly affected by this and backpedals completely, telling Riku that he always thinks of him and that they've always been together since they were twins. It's a very stark contrast to how cold he can be, and it's moments like these that bring his true feelings out.
Tenn's loyalties are all over the place. He cares so much about Riku that he wants to protect him, which is why he agreed to be adopted by Kujou; in the process, though, he's become attached to Kujou too and will cover for him if he's in trouble. While that's happening, Tenn is also very attached to TRIGGER and considers them to be his friends. His relationship with Kujou gets dicey in Part 2 in particular -- Kujou disguises himself as the legendary idol Zero and goes around doing harmful graffiti about TRIGGER, IDOLiSH7, and Re:vale. When the latter two groups catch him escaping, they end up cornering him; Tenn, however, knowing this is Kujou, turns off the lights and gives him a pathway to escape. He can't seem to dedicate himself to a cause because of how attached he gets to the people in his life.
AU History:
Born and raised in Kaisou and developed an interest in entertainment from a young age.
Relatively popular in school, though he had no interest in being a “cool kid”, just someone who had a lot of friends
His interest was in theater, and he had his first supernatural encounter while rehearsing for a school play in intermediate school. A ghastly woman was dancing beside him, mimicking his every move, and when he told his teacher about it, his teacher kinda looked at him funny, as did his classmates. His peers teased him a lot about it! It made him sad.
The ghost would follow him around throughout the rest of his life, though, and he could never really get anyone to believe him — not even his own family. This impeded his ability to perform (he was scared of her and didn’t want her around anymore, so he practiced less) and he ended up not landing many leading roles for a while. His confidence was hit and he started thinking about seeking a different career path.
However, in high school, Tenn's choir teacher saw his potential and could tell Tenn was troubled for whatever reason. Tenn lied and said he was having family issues at home, knowing that his teacher wouldn’t believe him if he spoke of the ghostly woman following him around. The teacher allowed him to talk about his worries, minus the supernatural stuff, and helped Tenn restore his confidence in performing.
He landed a leading role in his senior year of high school, restoring his desire to pursue theater as a profession. The ghost was, as always, still around, but he started learning how to live with her presence instead of trying to ward her off.
He is now at Kaisou University, attempting to pursue his dreams of musical theater once more.
AU Personality Differences: In this AU, Tenn is more isolated and self-reliant. He’s also less sure of himself and his abilities than he is in canon, and since he doesn’t really have a solid fanbase yet, he’s not nearly as concerned with his image and putting on a kind smile around people when he’s not feeling up for it. Tenn also doesn't have a Kujou figure in his life (thank god), so he's more free to do what he wants!!
Element: Water Purchased Powers: Being able to cool himself off (1 point), able to calm down faster than most others (1 point), quench his own (literal) thirst (1 point)
