Character Name: Roxas (Roxas Graf in the AU) Canon: Kingdom Hearts Canon History:Here
Canon Personality: Roxas displays the fact that he is a rather happy, carefree, cheerful and at ease kid when around friends. He doesn't make friends easily, but he loves to spend time with those he has. Axel was his first friend in the Organization, and they had their own tradition of meeting on top of the Clocktower. This gave Roxas something to look forward to and cherish, even with the addition of Xion into the mix. He continued this tradition with his new friends, Hayner, Pence and Olette when he arrived in Twilight Town. He expressed his happiness with smiles and teasing his friends and planning things to do with them, such as a beach trip with the Twilight Town crew.
He is also a loyal friend. He is more than willing to stand up for and defend them when someone is untoward them. He does this for his friends when Seifer refers to them as losers to goad them into a fight. This loyalty also extends into promises. He promised Axel and Xion that he would always meet them after their missions on the Clocktower to eat ice cream.
Roxas shows he can be kind and caring. When he heard that Axel may have been killed, he becomes devastated with worry, showing how deeply he cared for his friend. This is remedied when Axel does manage to make it back alive, and Roxas becomes overjoyed and lets his friend know he much worried about him. He shows his caring to Xion when he was more than willing to help her do her missions when she became incapable of wielding the Keyblade.
He is far from unintelligent. This intelligence builds over time, as he originally was at about the intellectual level of a newborn when he first entered the Organization. It made him seem naive and slow to others, but he was quick learner. In Twilight Town, he shows how intelligent and perceptive he was by seeing things for what they really were. He isn't easily fooled by his enemies, and thinks things through before making a decision. If he stays calm.
The young man can also be rather determined and competitive. Any challenge he gets is not something he will back down from easily. Being competitive, especially against friends, is fun for him, not matter who wins in the end. He could have been beaten by Hayner in the Struggle match and still cheer his friend on. His determination helps him win the Struggle Tournament against Setzer, and he proudly displays his Championship Belt to the crowd.
A temper that comes along with a devil-may-care attitude is one of his worst traits. When angered enough, his anger becomes out of control and difficult to reign in. A source of anger to him in the Organization was whenever Saïx referred to Xion as an 'it'. His rashness, cocky attitude, and flares of temper at times makes him jump into battle without thinking of the possible consequences, such as his fight with Axel. This temper also makes him more than willing to fight Sora for control of Sora’s heart, Roxas being upset that Sora was the one allowed to be free while he remained inside of him.
Roxas can be prone to bouts of melancholy, stoicism, episodes of solemn attitude, and can become distracted. When he starts finding out about who he was and what he was in his time with the Organization, he would at times withdraw from even his friends. When in Twilight Town, this occurs once more, and he starts feeling lost and confused. When Naminé reveals the truth to him about everything, it was then he truly hit rock bottom with his depression.
In his time being a part of Sora again, Roxas got to see the world through his other half’s eyes, even if the other was not aware of him. Resignation, sadness, and anger had been what he harbored inside of himself until it came to the point where Roxas got into a confrontation with Sora for control of the heart they both shared. Even after the fight, Roxas still wasn’t satisfied. He hated how it was Sora that could have things like friends while he was stuck in there.
Not much is known about how Roxas reacts during the Mark of Mastery exam until Sora walks into the trap laid out for him. Roxas does come out to help Sora again, having fully accepted the fact after all this time that Sora was the only one who could save everyone. Letting go of his resentment and hatred for the other has calmed his demeanor towards Sora considerably. Receiving his own body and heart at the end of KH3 doesn't seem to have changed his personality or demeanor in the slightest.
AU History: - Roxas grew up in good home, but despite that he can be rather aloof about family in general. His parents aren't really talked about when he's asked about family. - There's times when he's gotten to the point of being expelled from school due to his temper, yet he's always managed to squeak by and stay in school. - As soon as he could, Roxas applied to a school away from home. Kaisou was picked since it was the furthest away from where he had been living with his family and felt like the best option for more freedom. - A decent student, he is currently attending college as a sophomore in the graphic arts program and dabbling with more traditional mediums. Yes, he knows that it's not the best degree to get, but there isn't much else he has interest in. - Since he has decided to live alone as soon as he could, Roxas works mostly freelance graphics jobs and has a part time job at a local convenience store. As long as it pays the bills, he'll take other side-jobs when he can. - Roxas is a big fan of Sora's streams and regularly watches them and donates when he can. Despite this, he has been good about not being the "overly friendly" type of watcher and thus has never tried to meet Sora outside of streams. He would not turn down the opportunity if ever offered.
AU Personality Differences: - Roxas is quieter since he prefers to observe and watch. Mostly for inspiration for art projects since interacting directly with what he's watching can change what he's seeing. - Since he's not aware that his heart if still fairly new, there's no confusion about the emotions he's feeling. That'll make Roxas be more open and receptive in general.
