Secret Log: Purgatory

Congrats on your untimely death! After you die, you will awaken in a very drab waiting room. The only other people in the waiting area seems to be the others who also died back at the cabin. On the wall, there is a sign that reads: Welcome to Purgatory! Please take a number and wait while your soul is processed for its next destination. Thank you. Sure enough, under the sign there is one of those old number ticket machines.

From there, there is nothing to do but... wait! There are plenty of old chairs to sit in (some are even comfortable), along with stacks of magazines that are all discontinued. If you get hungry, there is a cabinet and fridge that is full of various discontinued snacks and drinks. Fancy yourself a New Coke or Pepsi Blue?

Finally, there is an old fashioned tv and antennae. You can use this either to watch some cancelled shows or watch a feed of what's going on back at the cabin. You'll have to deal with adjusting the antenna regularly and bad reception though.

That's about it for purgatory though! Enjoy your stay.

[He taps his fingers on the side of his folded arms while he listens.]

Have you considered projectiles?

I use projectiles on occasion. I'm not looking to augment the damn thing to turn into a rifle, though.

When Waver mentions a gun, Blade's expression twists into something like disgust.]

A gun? Don't insult me. Guns are such an inelegant, wasteful, arrogant weapon. If anything, the modifications would fire knives or darts—not bullets.

I am a craftsman. I make weapons worth writing songs about. A gun is barely worth the evening news.

...Fair enough. [look he doesn't like guns either, disregard that he has a gunner dressphere and was going ham with a shotgun not twenty minutes ago.]

But I'm not shooting knives out of my cane; it's designed for short range emergencies. All my magecraft is meant to be used at long range as it is; more of that wouldn't help me that much.

[People do crazy things when they try to survive. Blade knows that better than anyone.]

I suppose you have a point. [Thinking...] I could reinforce the blade. Make it stronger without it growing heavier, and give it an enchantment. As long as I see it every few weeks I could keep it maintained for you. Something more permanent will take a lot of energy and it would be limited to wind magic; I wouldn't be able to guarantee anything until next month.

Well...actually, that does sound helpful. If we actually manage to live through this, I might take you up on that.

[because ultimately yeah it's just a mundane little knife, that could always be better.]

[Blade's lips curve in a way that should have been a smile on anyone else, but on him it looks plain murderous. He's not a mean guy, but there's something. Wrong??? Blame the demon possession and the fact he's not used to smiling.]

I find a little lightning tends to make people rethink their distance.
