Character Name: Master Kohga Canon: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Canon History:wiki link. The Age of Calamity section is most relevant since that’s the instance I’m apping. An important historical event in canon to note since it shaped much of who Kohga is would be that prior to the previous rise of Calamity Ganon (the Big Bad), the Sheikah served the Hyrule royal family and were behind the tech that supported the Zelda and Link of the time (because it’s always a Zelda and Link who deal with this shit) in defeating him. Unfortunately, the king of the time got paranoid that the Sheikah might seek power and made them give up their tech and go into exile, which a particular tapestry not very subtly implies was backed with military force. The Yiga - Kohga’s clan - are the descendants of those Sheikah that took to the betrayal like a murder of crows.
Canon Personality: On the surface that most of the world sees, Kohga is a lazy, self-centered manchild with a big ego, more theatrics than sense, topped off with a cowardly streak. On a less surface read, while all of that is largely true with a dash of gullibility thrown in, at his core he’s driven by loyalty and a measure of compassion for society’s misfits. He’s not good at admitting it verbally, but when it comes down to it, he’s not only willing to knife fight god for his clan, he is willing to bury the hatchet with former enemies and admit he chose the wrong side if he thinks it will help his people survive. He’s surprisingly observant (which makes him good at mimicry or telling who someone is even in a disguise), but is easily blinded to intent. Stress level: high.
AU Name: Yuzuki Mochizuki (western order), but goes by Kohga AU Age: 27 AU Birthday: November 20th
AU History: Publically, Yuzuki is just a guy who used to be a professional clown but started up a shop that sells fruits, herbs, and various interesting knick knacks that may or may not be from the Spirit Realm down in Undertown when he moved to Kaisou a few years back (though usually his employees do the actual running of the shop while he just does little crafting projects for Youtube in the back) after his father’s mysterious disappearance and subsequent closing of the circus. Privately, he’s the last head of a ninja clan with roots in Japan’s Iga province… though only he, his employees, and a handful of others scattered around the city (all formerly members of the circus troupe) remain. Magic has been in his family as long as he can remember, which is in fact not a common ninja trait in spite of the myths, and the fact that all his remaining lackies are able to use a bit is probably a statistical outlier. Does he use these powers for anything but largely mundane things? No, not really. Does he have his clansmen keep an eye on the supernatural goings on of Kaisou? Yes, but mostly in terms of what might help or hurt Undertown.
Since their brief meddling Undertown back early in the year, Yuzuki’s had a bit of a beef with Zodiac beyond his general “eat the rich'' sentiment, since they personally inconvenienced him and also the other shopkeeps in the area that he’s come to be fond of. The likelihood Zodiac has taken much notice is… not high.
AU Personality Differences: A big difference is that he’s marginally more chill about perceived betrayal since he didn’t grow up in an environment with a big betrayal as a cultural trauma. This is not to say that he is chill about it, just… less likely to hold a grudge forever if nobody got stabbed. He’s also marginally more responsible, if only because he’s got a regular job and has to pay taxes, so he’s channeled his laziness into getting the most work done for the least effort possible, because damned if he gets taken out on tax fraud like Al Capone just because he wanted a nap or five. He also does not have the banana fixation (yet), and instead ended up fixated on citrus fruits. Stress level: lower-moderate.
