I am a returning player, though; previous characters were Nina Lora (OC), Lita Elnaeus (EO4 OC), and the Witch (DMFD). Character Name: Sara Aripi-Lumina Canon: OC Canon History: I have a write-up here, going up to what would have been the intended canon point if she were being apped as OU. It also includes sections for personality and canon abilities. Additional links in the sticky post on her journal contain setting info if it's somehow needed for any reason. (The 'Character Info' link on that post is the same one provided here.)
If you want something shorter, here's bullet points: • Sara was born in a small village not far from a larger city, and has one older sister. • When she was four, several people from the village went missing, her parents and sister included. • She was taken in by her uncle for awhile, but her being a ball of anger and abandonment issues as a direct result of the incident led to him concluding that he was not able to handle her. • Instead of trying to take her to any other known family members, which probably would have been the smart thing to do, her uncle took her to a friend of his that lived in the city. This kind of exacerbated things because of course it did, so she pretty much hates her uncle now, and she also took it out on her new caretaker for awhile. • Sara finally made her first friend when she was nine. Or it was really more the other way around; Sara met a boy that wasn't much older than her, and despite her best efforts to keep some distance, he insisted on being friends. It took her a little bit to accept this, but after she did, she started to feel just a little better about things in general. • Two years after that, the woman she's been living with decided that it was time to try introducing Sara to her own family, so they left on a trip intending to do that. The duo was ambushed somewhere along the way, and the woman was taken away, leaving Sara out in basically the middle of nowhere. • By some stroke of luck, Sara was found by her friend and the people that he was accompanying on the beginnings of a quest to protect their home from a threat that had been discovered. By sheer coincidence, the group had intended to recruit the woman that Sara had been living with, so both for Sara's own safety and because of having a shared goal of finding the woman, Sara was told to stick with the group and they would find her. This group would be joined over time by more individuals who wished to aid the group's cause, including Sara's own older sister Lorena, who was alive and mostly well. Lorena did not know where their parents were, or if their parents were even still alive; she'd been separated from them herself when they all vanished from the village. • Things eventually turned out to be way more complicated and dangerous than anyone expected, and "things" just so happened to include Sara herself as it turned out she was one of the latest in a family line that had been known for wielding some seriously powerful magic, and this was initially a problem because Sara was still young and she certainly had a bit of a temper. Fortunately, one of the members of the still steadily-growing group had enough knowledge of powers similar to hers to begin trying to give her some training to reduce the threat that she posed to the rest of her companions. • Later parts of the overall plot within the OU still have yet to be determined and it's been very slow-going for a variety of reasons, so it's shortly after this point that would have served as the "canon point" if Sara was being apped as an OU. It's likely that no memories from after the point in question will be regained, so once Sara is aware of the whole memories thing, the fate of her past life is going to be a giant question mark and it's probably going to bug her a lot.
Canon Personality: • Sara has a tendency to be loud, disagreeable, overly sensitive toward how people treat her, and is fairly easy to anger. As angry as she might get when she does get angry, however, she lacks the energy or drive to actually act on it. If she does act on it, well...she's just an eleven-year-old girl, and not particularly strong for one, so she is mostly harmless, except maybe to your eardrums; her usual response when angered is to start yelling. Around people she actually likes, she will actively try to tone it down, but can never really tone it down all the way. • Under serious stress, particularly when real danger is involved, she easily buckles, falling into a helpless, confused, and very loud panic. • Whenever she isn't angry, Sara most often simply keeps to herself, usually refusing to get close to others unless they appear to be somewhere near her own age; she does not trust most adults save for her caretaker, and even her she gives a considerable amount of trouble. Groups of people tend to overwhelm her unless those groups include people she knows and trusts, and she will refuse to take any form of control in any situation, instead letting other people handle it—and usually harassing them a bit while they do. Most people she interacts with, be it in groups or one-on-one meetings, are typically regarded with a fair amount of skepticism and distrust. Especially with people she has never met before, Sara is a very private, very guarded individual even at her young age and is not particularly willing to tell anyone anything about herself unless deemed absolutely necessary; to her, everyone she meets is a threat until proven otherwise. With this overly negative view of people in general, she is far from willing to help anyone she does not trust, and is not above confrontation or attempts at intimidation in order to keep people at the distance she wants them. • With the exceptions of anger or panic, Sara has some difficulty with expressing her emotions, and there are times where it appears that she is unaware of how she really feels about something. She is largely uninterested in most things and prefers to stick with routines that she already knows, shrugging new ideas off as unnecessary so long as the things she knows still work. In that sense, she's actually a little boring. Changes away from things she is already familiar with leaves her feeling uncertain and worried, which are feelings that she responds to by...well, snapping at whoever thought of trying something new. AU Name: Sara Leighton AU Birthday: April 14th, same as canon. Her being 11 years old puts her birth year at 2012.
AU History: • Like in canon, Sara was born as the younger of two girls, with her sister being five years older than her. • Also like in canon, her parents and sister all went missing when she was four, but circumstances behind their disappearance are even less-clear here than they were in canon. • Since she has no nearby family that she could live with (unlike canon, though the arrangement with her uncle there didn't last very long anyway), over the seven years that have passed since, Sara has bounced between foster homes as none of the homes she's been in have worked out for various reasons, mostly things involving things getting too stressful for Sara, or her foster families, or both. She's found that she's rather averse to change, or maybe this is what gave her that aversion, but either way, the resulting lack of stability has not done her any particular favors. • She has been at her current home in Kaisou for roughly half a year, and she has been living with the same couple that had adopted Shio Takahata, making him basically her older brother. Due to Shio's circumstances having granted them at least a partial understanding of Sara's own circumstances, Sara's newest family has been surprisingly good to her, providing what she needs while so far managing to avoid any big emotional landmines, which has allowed her to feel a bit more at-ease here than she had anywhere else. However, she currently still expects to be sent off to another home at some point because that's what always happens. • As far as school goes, she is currently in 6th grade; she should be in 5th considering her age (11) and birthday (April 14), but one of the first families she'd ended up with had somehow managed to get her started a little early. Up until recently her grades were only passable, with her keeping up with things just well enough to stay afloat because she didn't really care all that much. With finally feeling that things might be looking up for her, just a little bit, she's started making more of an effort.
AU Personality Differences: • Since her AU reflects her early canon in some ways (and those ways being what had largely informed her personality to begin with), personality-wise canon and AU Sara are actually pretty similar. If anything, AU Sara has actually had it a bit harder than her canon self due to hopping between multiple households instead of just two, so initially she'll tend toward "canon personality, except probably slightly more", except when it comes to her current foster family, who she's decided she actually likes.
