Character Name: Raiden Ei

Canon History: Here

Canon Personality:
If nothing else, Ei is filled with resolve. Once she sets on a path, she rarely, if ever stays her course. Any challenge she takes, she sees to the end. Her self-imposed eternity is one example of this. She stays on the Plane of Euthymia for centuries, in order to find a version of eternity that she finds acceptable to her people. Once she sets a course, she never wavers nor deters. Her actions not only speak of this, but so does her reputation. She's known across Inazuma as an unchanging force in an ever-changing world.

Her resolve was solidified the moment she lost her sister and her friends. Because she suffered the death of those closest to her, she vowed to do what she could to never suffer such loss again. She resolves to finish the battle, and carries out her sister’s will. Her experience in the Euthymia plane solidifies this resolve; the longer she spends in meditations the closer she can come to finding her idea of eternity.

Although her self-imposed isolation was in part a coping tactic, it has been a positive experience for her. Alone with her thoughts, she was able to contemplate a better eternity for her people. Although it’s not clear whether or not this isolation is will give her an answer, it’s important because it makes her feel like she’s growing close to the answer. The one thing Ei fears above all else is erosion, and her self-imposed solitude is an answer to that. It’s important to her resolve because it is one of the steps she’s taking to reach her goal, thus making her resolve worthwhile.

Ei also works for her people. Her decision to create the puppet Raiden Shogun was in part inspired by her desire to provide her people with a perfect ruler. As an imperfect being, she would be subject to erosion over time. The Raiden Shogun, however, a puppet that she endeavored to create in her likeness, would never falter. The Raiden Shogun's will is absolute. Ei created the Shogun so that even she, its creator, could not easily change the programming. There were several reasons for this, but first and foremost, she feared that an attempt to change the Shogun's "programming" (so to speak) would mean that she had faltered in her resolve. The Inazuma that her sister loved and held dear deserved, if nothing else, a perfect ruler.

Her character quests and interactions with Aether/Lumine exemplify this. When the traveler asks Ei to spend a day with them touring the city, she reluctantly agrees. This serves to be an eye-opening experience for her. Though she’s served as her people’s ruler for a long time, she’s never taken the time to spend on the street with them. When she does, she goes so far as to ask that a merchant’s product (dango milk) be delivered door-to-door so that her people can enjoy it. She cares for her people, and the traveler gave her a good experience to help deepen that care and that bond.

Although it's not a word most would use to describe her, Raiden Ei is childish. Her self-imposed isolation is something that she began to seek the best for her people, and it's something that she likely believed to be true. However, it was also a way to hide from her pain. Yae Miko describes her isolation as Ei essentially pouting when she doesn't get her way. Though she pretends to be an emotionless being, she's anything but. Sometimes, her emotions are so overwhelming that the only thing she can do is hide from them in her own world (literally).

Although it was ultimately for her own good, it’s difficult to say that Ei initially viewed Yae coming into her plane as anything but an annoyance. It’s not every day that she had company, she had been left with her thoughts alone for years. Not only that, but Yae came in and berated her for acting like a child. It was probably an overwhelming moment for Ei (although she wouldn’t show it), and so she asked to be left alone again after her and Yae spoke. Because she’s childish, it’s hard for Ei to accept her own faults.

Raiden Ei is also gullible. There are only certain situations where this is true, however. In a battle, for example, she is unlikely to ever miss anything. When it comes to ruling, however, she often misses the forest for the trees. Because Raiden Ei had left the day-to-day matters of Inazuma in the hands of the Raiden Shogun, she was unaware of how the Vision Hunt Decree was received. She was being fed false information by a foreign power, and never once thought to check (or to have the Raiden Shogun check) the reports, leaving it to those below her.

AU Name: Ei Inazuma

AU Birthday: June 26th

Faction: Black Order

AU History: Inazuma Ei was born to a well-off family in Japan in the early 90s. Her father was a CEO of a rather large and powerful company in Japan, and she spent her early years spending her time after school in various activities, her favorite of were was kendo and naginata.

When she was eleven, her house caught on fire and burned down during a heavy thunderstorm. Tragically, her twin sister perished in the fire, and this became the defining moment of Ei's life. Before, her and her twin had existed as a pair. Though they had different interests (Makoto was interested in ikebana, while Ei was interested in kendo), the two could hardly be separated. Even among their friends, Makoto was considered to be the outgoing one, with Ei being her shadow. When Makoto passed, Ei withdrew from her friends.

At this point, Ei had continued to attend school, but strange things kept happening. On the day her sister passed, the lightning did not stop. As Ei cried, the lightning continued to strike near her home, long past what was originally forecasted. When she returned to school two weeks later, things got weird. When she entered a room, the lights would flicker. When she tried to use the computer, it short-circuited. Things came to a head when her father took her to his office building in Tokyo and Ei had a panic attack, that proceeded to knock out power to the greater Tokyo area for a whole 12 hours.

This is what drew the Black Order's attention. Before she knew it, she had been approached. To her, it seemed like a no-brainer. Just as Ei did not want to lose her memories of her twin sister, neither did she want to lose the memories of a twin sister she had in a past life.

Currently, Ei lives as a grad student in Silicon Valley. She has since become a NEET. Her loss of her twin sister lead her to focusing her research on artificial intelligence, so that she, and everyone she knows, can find a way to live on after death. While she is more than happy to go on missions for the Black Order, her primary skills are in computers. She is able to handle herself with a sword, however, as even once she shut herself in she continued to practice kendo and naginata.
