Character Name: Mogget / Yrael Canon: The Old Kingdom Canon History:Canon Wiki | Mogget/Yrael
Canon Personality: Mogget is a capricious creature, given to being contrary and lying by omission, often for his own amusement or to highlight the failings in others. The level of dignity with which he carries himself can be, on occasion, broken by such things as unexpectedly getting wet, catbalm, or the prospect of food. In these ways and in others, Mogget often shows distinctly cat-like behaviour, something which has been undoubtedly influenced by his time spent in that very form. However, there are many things that Mogget does which make it all too clear that he is no ordinary creature, even with the ability to speak set aside.
His motives are not often clear, particularly in earlier canon, and while his loyalty and honesty towards the Abhorsen cannot usually be called into too much question, those traits do rely quite heavily on the personality and will of the Abhorsen themselves. If an Abhorsen is neglectful of their duties - and therefore of him - he is given far more free rein to do as he wishes. He is bluntly spoken and has little patience for foolishness, though if it is insisted upon he will sometimes choose to sit back and allow the inevitable consequences to unfold as a teaching moment. Mogget will not hesitate in 'stirring the pot', delivering well-aimed verbal barbs that at first seem only designed to irritate, but usually have an end purpose in mind.
Though he can come across as a somewhat lazy, demanding and even selfish creature, openly dismissive of others and possessing an occasionally abrasive temperament, Mogget is very capable of empathy and personal connections. Whether he chooses to make use of this is another matter, but he is not the detached creature that his aloofness would have most believe before they have an opportunity to get to know him better. He shows this particular aspect of his personality later in canon in his odd but very genuine attachment to Sameth, the son of the Abhorsen Sabriel.
Despite his shape and small size, Mogget is a highly adaptable, capable individual. He takes a sensible, practical approach to problems and is able to view most things in an almost coldly objective light, offering solutions to be accepted or ignored. He does not appreciate being ignored, and is not above getting snitty about it.
Unbound, in his (true) form as Yrael, Mogget's personality takes on a far more sinister air. He delights in the idea of finally exacting revenge upon the bloodline which has kept him bound in servitude, though his failing here is that he takes far too long in acting on it. Yrael appears to not wish to give any of the Abhorsen bloodline a quick death, more than implying a preference towards slow, lingering torture for the years of being bound that he has been made to endure. Later in canon, Yrael's personality considerably softens, but at this stage he is a creature of immense power, rage, and a pure desire for vengeance.
It is perhaps worth noting that when he is unbound by Sabriel and almost kills her, he does appear apologetic after he is bound again (though he does not verbally apologise). In the very least, he understands how his actions shook her and does not act as if nothing of note happened.
AU Name: Formerly Eoin Raggett, now goes by Yrael. AU Birthday: August 1st Faction: Black Order
AU History: 🐱 Born into a large, close family with mixed Irish and French roots, who were always into each others business. It wasn’t something that he minded at first, being the youngest and always the most timid of his eight siblings. Most of them pursued creative careers. He was closest to his eldest brother, Niall, who looked out for him and shielded him from the worst of his sibling’s teasing and bickering. 🐱 When Eoin was around sixteen years old, Niall began to fall in with a bad crowd and created discord within the family. Despite the efforts of their parents to reel him back in, the man pulled further and further away from them, culminating in a vicious argument in front of most of the family that resulted in him disowning all of them and leaving. 🐱 Unlike the rest of his siblings, Eoin would not write Niall off for his actions and continued to write to him, trying to coax him back. The amount of pressure that his brothers and sisters put on him to forget about ‘that traitor’ would cloud the next few years until, at the age of nineteen, news reached him that Niall had been found dead. 🐱 After so long trying to bring his beloved brother back to the family, this news utterly broke Eoin. He withdrew from academia and almost all social interaction, shutting himself up in his room and refusing any contact from anyone. It was at this time that he started to get flashes of memories that were not his and began waking up from vivid dreams in a panic, unsure of who he actually was - or what he actually was. 🐱 His family noticed the changes in his personality and his peculiar actions and put him in therapy. It didn’t help, because he wouldn’t talk about any of it for fear of being labelled as crazy. 🐱 A few months after the dreams and flashbacks started he was approached by someone who claimed to be from an organisation called the Black Order. Though he was sceptical about their motives he agreed to join up as an opportunity to get away from his family, whose increasing coldness and distance towards him over the last few years had become completely unbearable. 🐱 He left without any word to his family and did not tell any of them where he had gone, though he doesn’t care if they find out. 🐱 Memories continued to return to him over the next year or so following joining up, slotting in between and sometimes overwriting his own, altering his personality in many ways. Eventually he abandoned his given name completely and started going by the one that he sometimes heard voices speaking to him in his ‘other’ memories - Yrael. He no longer gives anyone his real name and only those who worked with him when he still used it, or have access to his personal files would know it. 🐱 Yrael spent the next fifteen years working for the Black Order on various assignments and gained both trust and notoriety in the way that he would never (at least overtly) refuse an order given, regardless of what it might be. 🐱 He almost broke this streak when he was told to go and assist the investigations in Kaisou. Part of the myriad of regained memories involved spending a lot of time stuck in the form of a cat and being aware of the effects that Kaisou could have on people he had no wish for that particular issue to intrude upon his actual life. Eventually he was persuaded, and moved a month or so later to lend his eyes and ears to the investigation.
AU Personality Differences: 🐱 He has an additional layer of ‘humanity’ that his canon self lacks, and tends to be more understanding of other people and is not as overtly demanding, though still rather abrasive. 🐱 Definitely not homicidal/murderous towards anyone. 🐱 He doesn’t hate his job - in fact he views the Black Order as having given him a second chance at actually having a life. He’s very grateful to them in a weird, co-dependent kind of way. 🐱 Not necessarily lazy, though also not above manipulating the pieces of a situation into place or simply watching something play out, so that he doesn’t have to do as much work. 🐱 Sensitive about matters of family, his own past, etc. He holds most people at arms length because he doesn’t want to be hurt again, not because he thinks everyone is beneath him… though it can definitely come across that way. 🐱 Not demonstrating cat-like behaviour... yet.
Element: N/A Purchased Powers: (not 100% on the costs of these so pls correct if necessary!) 🐱 Fully transformed into the shape of a small white cat (currently permanent as of Kaisou arrival) - 4 points 🐱 Solo teleportation - 3 points 🐱 Minor shapeshifting (can make his paws ‘lengthen’ into finger-like appendages, not creepy at all) - 2(?) points 🐱 Red collar (not currently worn, or magical) - 1 point
