Character Name: Kanade Yoisaki Canon: Project Sekai Canon Point: post-Mirage of Lights event Birthday: February 10th History:Kanade @ Prosekai wiki
Personality: Kanade is a deeply troubled, traumatized girl who nevertheless is extremely kind and compassionate and does her best to help others.
At first glance, Kanade might come off to some as cold or distant; she doesn't often talk more than she has to, and her face is usually a mask of neutrality. When she does show any kind of expression, it's very muted. This, however, isn't because of any kind of stoic or cold attitude - quite the opposite, in fact. Kanade is surprisingly friendly to anyone she meets; she treats her housekeeper, Honami Mochizuki, more like a friend than someone paid to clean for her, asking her for help or advice on more than one occasion. She'll give away a copy of a rare CD from an artist she admires if it's the last one, purely because the girl next to her seems to want it as much as she does. No, it's not stoicism that holds Kanade back from expressing herself. Really, it's just... pure awkwardness. Kanade has spent the past two years alone in her own home, with most of her social contact being online or with the previously mentioned Honami. She's not used to dealing with people or many social situations, and in the rare times when she's outside not running errands, she'll let her friends take charge on what to do.
Tied into this is a deep sense of compassion as well. Kanade is endlessly supportive of her friends, and is a stalwort rock of support for them. Though she knows more often than not the answer is "i don't know", she often asks Mafuyu how she feels or what she might want when they're working on songs, or if they're out as a group. The answer is almost always the same, but she's still determined to give Mafuyu that choice, something she isn't given in other aspects of her life. She's incredibly encouraging of Ena's art as well; she knows that it's one of her friend's biggest insecurities, and she does her best to point out things she likes about all of Ena's pieces. They're not empty words, either! Kanade truly enjoys Ena's work. She's even encouraging of people she just met, like complimenting Ichika's lyric writing even after only reading one draft of one song. Kanade truly cares, deeply and earnestly, and knowing that others are happy is enough to make her happy.
Kanade's shut-in tendencies are, sadly, rooted in deep trauma. Kanade is a profoundly hurting girl, struggling with depression and most likely some level of PTSD from seeing her father collapse from the stress of his job. As a musician, Kanade's father loved to make music that made people happy. Kanade greatly admired him, and took after him in many ways because of this. She developed a deep love and talent for music, even at a young age, and her father would often say she was "loved by music" in return. But her father struggled greatly with keeping up with the current music trends and the demands of his clients, and after many months of stress and fatigue building up, he collapsed and was hospitalized - and has been for over two years now. Kanade completely blames herself for this; she thinks her father struggled so badly because her own musical talents surpassed his, and thus it was her fault that he had to work so hard. She sank into a terribly deep depression after that, and became obsessed with the idea of "saving others" with her music; her father wanted her to keep composing to make others happy, but this twisted around in Kanade's mind to the point where she views it as a curse. She now believes that composing music to save others is the only way to "atone" for her sin, and for two years now, it's more or less her only reason for living.
This is starting to change, though. Kanade still believes she's to blame for what happened to her father, and she still views herself as cursed, but her priorities are beginning to shift. After meeting Mafuyu Asahina, a girl who believes she's "cursed" just as Kanade is, who's as lost and hurting as Kanade feels, she realizes she wants to save her. And while that is still her major goal, she's slowly realizing that it's not just because of her own complex that she's writing songs for Mafuyu. As much as she wants to help Mafuyu find herself, she's also writing songs because she genuinely wants to see Mafuyu smile, to see her happy. It's a much more tangible goal, one that she doesn't have to destroy her mental and physical health over, and she's slowly but surely started to take steps forward into bettering herself so she can continue to help others.
Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Immediately on acceptance Items: Her cellphone (a totally normal phone, mostly loaded with music) Retained Abilities: n/a; she has the same ability to enter an alternate world as Mafuyu, but as that was completely nerfed upon Mafuyu's arrival, it'll be completely nerfed for Kanade as well.
