Her pets would be normal from the start. If you want them to transform into pokemon later on, she can regain that using regain points once she joins the game. Another alternative is the pokemon could show up on their own, no animal transformation needed.

That said, being a paranormal AU means you can give her a magic animal companion as part of the three points you can spend at app time (how those break down can be read here). However these wouldn't be pokemon, but more an original creature based on Kaisou's element system (though you could make it pokemon-esque).
