Based on my assessment, they are a genuine threat for anyone going in for solo cleanup. Normal weapons are useless against them. There are also a high number of them until you get to the heart of the tear, where there's a much stronger enemy waiting with the civilian they took into the tear for their meal. On top of all of that, there are traps and puzzles within the labyrinth. I was able to obtain a map of the one I'd been in with thanks to a partner I contracted with before entering.
