Character Name: Maxima quo Priscus Canon: Final Fantasy XIV Canon Point: Patch 6.5 Age: 34 Birthday: 5/3 History: Maxima's parents were political activists seeking to make the Garlean Empire they lived in more just, and he joined their cause when he was old enough. When they died under suspicious circumstances, he carried on their work, choosing to forego personal relationships out of awareness that he was likely to meet the same fate. He thought they'd made a breakthrough after the Empire's defeats in Ala Mhigo and Doma, only to discover that his faction was being used as a pawn to reinforce the control of the greater evil that had been puppeteering the imperial family since the Empire's founding.
His only recourse was to flee into exile and throw himself on the mercy of the recently liberated, who were more than willing to welcome the intelligence he could bring on the Empire's current dealings. Knowing that he would be called traitor for it, but also that his homeland would never be truly free until its current rulers were toppled, he threw his lot in with them wholeheartedly. And when civil war caused the whole Empire to fall into chaos, he agreed to help guide a relief expedition collected from all the nations who had once been their enemies, right into the heart of his homeland.
The war is over. The last heirs of the imperial family are dead, and the Garlean Empire's infrastructure is in ruins. What's left is a scattering of refugees, both former soldiers and civilians, huddled in the wreckage and being tended to by the relief contingent, slowly trying to work out how to rebuild their lives and construct a functioning nation; this is where Maxima belongs, and he means to make that rebuilding his life's work.
Personality: Restrained - having spent most of his life as a liberal political activist working in a fascist empire, he's very good at concealing his thoughts and emotions when it's not safe to let them show
Pragmatic and open-minded - he's repeatedly presented with world-shaking facts, and while he doesn't immediately accept them all as truth, he agrees to investigate and never dismisses them out of hand
Adaptable and determined - his plans keep derailing over and over again, and every time he manages to roll with it and figure out a good way to carry onward
Idealistic - he really, truly believes that his people and his nation can be better than they are, and wants to bring about a freer and more secure future for them
Courageous - more than once, he approaches people who he has every reason to believe want him dead, and offers to negotiate; the first time we see him do this, it's immediately after watching one of those people kill a goddess' manifestation
Time of Arrival to Kaisou: Around the time of app submission is fine. I was thinking his labyrinth should look like the ruins of the capital - a modern-ish (maybe 1950s - cars, concrete, and freeways, but not much in the way of consumer electronics) city in a frigid climate, now reduced to icy rubble by what was obviously a violent conflict.
Items: his glasses a dagger a warding scale a linkpearl
Obviously the warding scale and linkpearl are rendered nonfunctional upon arrival. The glasses and dagger were never magic to start with.
Retained Abilities: Improved Senses: Enhanced (2 points) - The Garlean third eye in the middle of the forehead grants them unusually strong proprioception and spatial awareness, making them better than regular humans at flying airships, shooting guns, and other activities that need a good sense of aim and trajectory.
