Character Name: Dr. Veritas Ratio
Canon: Honkai: Star Rail
Canon History: Wiki link

The tl;dr version is that he was sponsored into an honors college program very young, earned eight degrees and helped revolutionize the planet's energy production, then went on to teach classes there for a while. At some point he moved on to helping other worlds with infrastructure and defense projects, but despite his education and accomplishments, the Aeon of Knowledge has never deigned to acknowledge him as a "genius", because he works to the benefit of others instead of single-mindedly pursuing some particular interest at the expense of the rest of the galaxy. Disillusioned and embittered by this, he's chosen to embrace that rejection as a part of his identity, and joined the working-class Intelligentsia Guild instead, to focus on spreading knowledge and education across the galaxy and uplifting as many people as he can reach.

Canon Personality:

Arrogant Intellectual - Lack of acknowledgement by Nous aside, Ratio is a genius by most mundane definitions, and he has been all his life, and he's very aware of it. To his view, there's no point in pretending that he's an ordinary person with ordinary limitations, when he's been capable of so much from such a young age, and he doesn't bother with false humility. He is the smartest person most people will ever meet; why shouldn't he acknowledge that?

Meticulous and Fastidious - Ratio is personally affronted by logical contradictions, inconsistencies, ignorance, and general untidiness whether physical or otherwise. He would prefer for all the world to flow as cleanly and elegantly as a mathematical proof, with no corruption or inefficiency, and his dedication to the path of The Hunt is in service to his desire to root these things out and eliminate them. He won't hesitate to brutally critique any fallacies that cross his path.

Strategic and Clear-sighted - His belief in logic and dislike for contradiction would seem to lead to a very straightforward personality, and certainly he prefers to deal openly and honestly whenever possible; but Ratio is very clear on the discrepancies between his ideal world and the one he actually lives in. You can't fight corruption if you can't identify it, and his lifelong battle against the scourge of ignorance is one that must be fought strategically, without expending his energy on useless measures. He is perfectly capable of deceiving others and concealing his goals and motivations from people he can't trust.

Compassionate and Idealistic - Ratio believes very strongly that education should be available to everyone, regardless of their station in life or their starting point. Intelligence and creativity can be found plentifully in the common people and not only in the elite of the galaxy, and if they fail to manifest it is only because they are rarely cultivated properly. Although he is a harsh critic and a demanding teacher, Ratio believes above all else that people need to fail and pick themselves up again, and deserve to have the space and safety to do so: because humility and understanding your own ignorance are what will lead toward the path of learning and wisdom for anyone who chooses to walk that road, "genius" or no.

AU Name: n/a
AU Age: 30 (no age specified in canon but he appears to be in the late-20s-early-30s range there)
AU Birthday: Feb 5

AU History: On the glowing recommendation of a teacher who recognized his genius early, Ratio entered college at sixteen, and graduated with a degree in advanced mathematics two years later. He's been at the university ever since, eventually transitioned from attending classes to teaching them, and has continued gradually growing more eccentric and opinionated with each passing year. Despite his main focus being on math and physics, he has a strong interest in philosophy and ethics, and is known for his willingness to engage in debates with anyone who can stand the sharpness of his tongue.

He's traveled around the world to speak at conferences and occasionally participate in research projects elsewhere, but despite offers from more prestigious institutions, he's never seriously considered leaving his position at Kaisou University. He'd rather teach scholarship students than leave his mark on the children of society's elite, and someone who's truly interested in what he can teach them rather than the status of being taught won't mind the loss of prestige from coming here rather than going to a school with more name recognition.

AU Personality Differences: The biggest difference is just in breadth of experience - fussy geniuses are the same everywhere, but this version is a little bit less worn to cynicism from the excesses of Extreme Space Capitalism.
