Area of Specialty: you'd think gaming or fishing but he's already an expert on those. I'm thinking something marrying modern-day technology and magic—Noctis has an interest, I believe, in focusing on how magic and technology interact and how one can boost the capabilities of the other if used right and used in an ethical manner. he also might want to look into yokai, though this is more of a side thing and he just wants to make sure what happened to his dad doesn't happen again.
Potential Red Flags:

a history of loss due to either death or disappeance: his mother, his old babysitter Sampo, his former college roommate Aventurine, and most recently his father Regis in November. this last one is the one that's affected him the most, as Regis died in the November demon invasion.

an active participant in taking out Dickson, a Black Order Zealot, and Jun Wu, one of the Undying.

has a weird and complicated familial relationship with Ardyn Izunia. he'll admit that he hid the man in his apartment for some time during the Black Order crisis and that they used to be on opposite sides during their past lives.

HUGE emotional avoidance problems. the last thing Noctis wants to do is to talk about his problems and how he feels about them, and he only lets that guard down around his close friends and family.

lots of grief that he is only just beginning to actively process.

is worryingly okay with sacrificing himself to some degree, whether it's his own health, his time, or even his life. he's sincerely doing his best to be better about this. his success is variable.
